body_n be_v expose_v to_o great_a want_n and_o suffering_n bad_a man_n be_v injurious_a and_o meekness_n and_o patience_n and_o such_o tame_a and_o gentle_a virtue_n encourage_v their_o injury_n nay_o true_a piety_n and_o religion_n itself_o may_v be_v the_o cause_n and_o reason_n of_o our_o suffering_n and_o when_o the_o body_n suffer_v the_o soul_n suffer_v with_o it_o and_o this_o stifle_v the_o good_a whether_o judgement_n be_v nigh_o at_o hand_n or_o a_o great_a way_n off_o for_o if_o we_o must_v give_v a_o account_n of_o what_o we_o do_v at_o seventeen_o or_o twenty_o year_n old_a and_o of_o what_o we_o do_v at_o fifty_o or_o sixty_o there_o be_v the_o same_o reason_n to_o think_v of_o judgement_n and_o to_o govern_v our_o life_n under_o the_o sense_n of_o it_o when_o we_o be_v but_o why_o they_o shall_v think_v frequent_o and_o serious_o of_o it_o what_o but_o this_o can_v reduce_v that_o giddy_a age_n within_o bound_n and_o make_v they_o live_v by_o rule_n but_o if_o they_o will_v consider_v that_o they_o must_v be_v judge_v by_o rule_n by_o the_o law_n of_o the_o everlasting_a gospel_n this_o will_v do_v it_o this_o will_v convince_v they_o that_o they_o be_v not_o their_o own_o master_n that_o they_o be_v not_o at_o liberty_n to_o live_v as_o they_o list_v and_o to_o pursue_v every_o wild_a and_o rove_a fancy_n they_o may_v indeed_o do_v this_o if_o they_o please_v but_o they_o shall_v be_v judge_v for_o it_o if_o they_o do_v what_o but_o this_o can_v cool_v the_o heat_n of_o youth_n and_o conquer_v all_o the_o charm_n of_o flesh_n and_o sense_n but_o know_v say_v the_o wise_a man_n that_o for_o all_o these_o thing_n god_n will_v call_v thou_o to_o judgement_n and_o a_o man_n who_o be_v afraid_a of_o judgement_n who_o be_v afraid_a of_o lake_n of_o fire_n and_o brimstone_n who_o have_v the_o terrible_a prospect_n of_o eternal_a misery_n before_o he_o will_v have_v no_o great_a appetite_n to_o the_o choice_a sensuality_n he_o will_v freeze_v in_o the_o embrace_n of_o the_o most_o belove_a mistress_n and_o will_v tremble_v in_o the_o midst_n of_o his_o cup_n as_o belâ—shazzar_n do_v when_o he_o see_v the_o handwriting_n upon_o the_o wall_n for_o who_o can_v bear_v the_o thought_n of_o be_v miserable_a for_o ever_o who_o with_o these_o thought_n about_o he_o can_v relish_v such_o fatal_a pleasure_n pleasure_n which_o will_v cost_v he_o his_o soul_n short_a and_o die_a and_o vanish_v pleasure_n which_o will_v end_v in_o eternal_a pain_n who_o will_v not_o be_v content_v to_o endure_v the_o pain_n of_o deny_v a_o appetite_n of_o but_o this_o be_v necessary_a for_o all_o man_n as_o well_o as_o those_o who_o be_v young_a whoever_o take_v care_n of_o his_o soul_n aught_o to_o keep_v his_o eye_n upon_o a_o future_a judgement_n i_o grant_v it_o be_v so_o but_o there_o be_v some_o peculiar_a advantage_n which_o young_a man_n will_v reap_v by_o this_o if_o they_o begin_v this_o practice_n betimes_o 1_o sy_n for_o this_o will_v preserve_v their_o innocence_n and_o virtue_n and_o prevent_v the_o terror_n and_o agony_n of_o a_o late_a repentance_n all_o the_o kindness_n the_o thought_n of_o judgement_n can_v do_v to_o old_a sinner_n be_v to_o put_v a_o stop_n to_o they_o and_o to_o bring_v they_o to_o repentance_n and_o this_o be_v a_o very_a great_a kindness_n if_o it_o make_v they_o true_a penitent_n because_o it_o will_v save_v their_o soul_n and_o this_o be_v that_o which_o most_o sinner_n desire_v to_o enjoy_v the_o pleasure_n of_o sin_n as_o long_o as_o they_o can_v and_o to_o repent_v before_o they_o die_v and_o thus_o they_o think_v they_o adjust_a all_o interest_n gratify_v the_o flesh_n and_o save_v their_o soul_n at_o last_o but_o if_o these_o man_n ever_o prove_v true_a penitent_n they_o become_v very_o sensible_a of_o their_o mistake_n they_o wish_v then_o when_o it_o be_v too_o late_o that_o they_o have_v remember_v their_o creator_n in_o the_o day_n of_o their_o youth_n that_o they_o have_v preserve_v themselves_o from_o the_o pollution_n of_o flesh_n and_o sense_n they_o feel_v by_o sad_a experience_n what_o a_o evil_a and_o a_o bitter_a thing_n it_o be_v to_o sin_n against_o god_n how_o amaze_a the_o shame_n how_o sharp_a the_o sorrow_n of_o repentance_n be_v it_o be_v a_o very_a melancholy_n and_o disconsolate_a work_n when_o man_n draw_v near_o their_o end_n to_o look_v back_o upon_o a_o vicious_a and_o profligate_v life_n
and_o impudent_a and_o be_v not_o so_o much_o concern_v to_o be_v private_a what_o at_o first_o they_o be_v ashamed_a the_o world_n shall_v know_v in_o time_n they_o think_v no_o shame_n a_o custom_n of_o sin_v though_o in_o private_a wear_v off_o the_o modesty_n of_o humane_a nature_n and_o when_o man_n forget_v to_o blush_v they_o despise_v reproach_n and_o censure_n and_o then_o publish_v their_o own_o wickedness_n and_o seek_v for_o retirement_n and_o privacy_n no_o long_o the_o most_o impudent_a sinner_n in_o the_o world_n be_v at_o first_o modest_a but_o if_o they_o can_v find_v any_o excuse_n to_o make_v a_o beginning_n how_o modest_a soever_o their_o beginning_n be_v they_o quick_o improve_v and_o lose_v the_o sense_n of_o sin_n and_o aversion_n to_o it_o by_o their_o reverence_n for_o god_n and_o for_o their_o own_o conscience_n which_o a_o custom_n of_o sin_v will_v do_v be_v it_o never_o so_o secret_a they_o will_v have_v little_a regard_n to_o what_o the_o world_n say_v of_o they_o they_o may_v fear_v humane_a punishment_n but_o they_o be_v sink_v below_o the_o sense_n of_o shame_n if_o ever_o god_n reclaim_v such_o man_n it_o must_v be_v either_o by_o some_o great_a and_o severe_a affliction_n which_o carry_v the_o mark_n of_o a_o divine_a vengeance_n on_o they_o or_o by_o discover_v their_o wickedness_n and_o expose_v they_o to_o public_a shame_n before_o they_o have_v lose_v all_o sense_n of_o it_o but_o if_o man_n sin_v secret_o and_o be_v very_o fortunate_a in_o conceal_v their_o sin_n they_o will_v never_o think_v it_o time_n to_o repent_v till_o they_o can_v sin_v no_o long_o and_o therefore_o since_o god_n see_v our_o most_o secret_a sin_n and_o will_v judge_v we_o for_o they_o let_v we_o maintain_v a_o constant_a awe_n for_o god_n in_o our_o great_a retirement_n let_v we_o remember_v that_o god_n be_v always_o present_a with_o we_o that_o he_o see_v we_o when_o no_o other_o eye_n see_v that_o he_o abhor_v our_o most_o secret_a sin_n that_o it_o be_v a_o great_a contempt_n of_o god_n to_o retain_v a_o reverence_n for_o man_n and_o to_o cast_v off_o the_o reverence_n of_o god_n to_o be_v ashamed_a that_o man_n shall_v know_v of_o secular_a end_n but_o god_n be_v the_o whole_a world_n to_o we_o that_o he_o see_v it_o be_v more_o than_o all_o humane_a applause_n though_o the_o whole_a world_n be_v the_o theatre_n we_o expect_v our_o reward_n from_o he_o and_o from_o he_o only_o for_o we_o let_v no_o body_n else_o know_v it_o which_o be_v such_o a_o perfection_n of_o obedience_n of_o faith_n of_o hope_n and_o trust_v in_o god_n as_o deserve_v the_o great_a reward_n those_o who_o industrious_o conceal_v the_o good_a they_o do_v from_o man_n can_v expect_v nothing_o from_o man_n for_o it_o neither_o praise_n nor_o reward_n and_o therefore_o can_v have_v no_o other_o motive_n to_o do_v good_a but_o the_o love_n and_o reverence_n of_o god_n and_o faith_n in_o he_o or_o the_o pleasure_n they_o take_v in_o will_v be_v sure_a to_o choose_v very_o well_o for_o themselves_o and_o thus_o entertain_v their_o delude_a fanice_n with_o vain_a and_o empty_a scene_n of_o greatness_n and_o glory_n the_o pharisee_n think_v all_o this_o very_a innocent_a that_o to_o lust_n after_o a_o beautiful_a woman_n and_o please_v themselves_o with_o amorous_a and_o wanton_a imagination_n be_v no_o crime_n if_o they_o do_v their_o last_o offence_n their_o old_a inclination_n revive_v and_o a_o new_a temptation_n conquer_v again_o now_o such_o man_n conscience_n neither_o absolute_o condemn_v nor_o absolute_o acquit_v they_o for_o the_o event_n be_v doubtful_a they_o be_v not_o conqueror_n yet_o and_o it_o be_v uncertain_a whether_o ever_o they_o will_v conquer_v and_o therefore_o their_o conscience_n can_v yet_o speak_v peace_n to_o they_o and_o yet_o they_o be_v not_o perfect_a slave_n and_o captive_n to_o sin_n but_o contend_v for_o their_o liberty_n and_o therefore_o their_o conscience_n do_v not_o absolute_o condemn_v they_o but_o as_o they_o prevail_v or_o yield_v so_o their_o hope_n or_o fear_n increase_v and_o this_o also_o be_v the_o case_n of_o those_o man_n who_o if_o they_o commit_v no_o be_v to_o be_v say_v to_o it_o such_o man_n can_v know_v by_o the_o judgement_n of_o their_o own_o conscience_n what_o judgement_n god_n will_v pass_v on_o they_o because_o their_o conscience_n pass_v no_o certain_a judgement_n on_o they_o but_o when_o conscience_n do_v give_v judgement_n of_o we_o when_o it_o absolute_o acquit_v or_o absolute_o condemn_v we_o we_o may_v depend_v on_o it_o that_o god_n will_v judge_v we_o as_o our_o conscience_n do_v there_o be_v some_o objection_n against_o this_o which_o be_v easy_o answer_v from_o that_o plain_a state_n of_o the_o case_n which_o i_o have_v and_o fill_v they_o with_o terror_n and_o amazement_n there_o be_v other_o bad_a man_n who_o do_v very_o wicked_a thing_n and_o yet_o their_o conscience_n be_v so_o far_o from_o condemn_v they_o that_o they_o commend_v and_o applaud_v they_o nay_o we_o know_v there_o have_v be_v those_o who_o conscience_n have_v indulge_v they_o in_o all_o manner_n of_o wickedness_n and_o flatter_v they_o into_o a_o opinion_n of_o their_o be_v great_a saint_n and_o dear_a to_o god_n all_o the_o while_n and_o will_v not_o god_n condemn_v these_o man_n because_o their_o conscience_n do_v not_o condemn_v they_o but_o promise_v they_o not_o only_a impunity_n but_o great_a reward_n thus_o on_o the_o other_o hand_n many_o very_a good_a man_n who_o to_o all_o appearance_n have_v live_v very_o innocent_a and_o virtuous_a life_n fall_v under_o great_a disorder_n of_o mind_n and_o not_o only_o condemn_v but_o pass_v a_o final_a irreversible_a sentence_n upon_o themselves_o that_o they_o be_v not_o only_o at_o present_a in_o a_o state_n of_o damnation_n but_o that_o it_o be_v impossible_a for_o they_o ever_o to_o get_v out_o of_o it_o and_o that_o they_o must_v be_v certain_o damn_v now_o will_v god_n condemn_v these_o good_a man_n because_o their_o conscience_n condemn_v they_o i_o have_v put_v these_o two_o case_n together_o because_o the_o same_o answer_n will_v serve_v both_o this_o be_v not_o the_o judgement_n of_o conscience_n which_o st._n john_n speak_v of_o but_o the_o judgement_n of_o opinion_n and_o mistake_v notion_n in_o religion_n or_o of_o melancholy_a and_o a_o distemper_a fancy_n the_o judgement_n of_o conscience_n be_v that_o judgement_n which_o we_o pass_v on_o ourselves_o from_o compare_v our_o life_n with_o the_o rule_n whereby_o we_o shall_v be_v judge_v and_o this_o judgement_n
