and_o sanctity_n of_o the_o mind_n and_o spirit_n by_o these_o rule_n we_o may_v examine_v the_o truth_n of_o all_o doctrine_n propound_v to_o we_o in_o
ourselves_o if_o we_o will_v but_o when_o we_o come_v into_o the_o other_o world_n we_o shall_v find_v the_o great_a enquiry_n there_o to_o be_v whether_o we_o have_v act_v according_a to_o the_o prescription_n of_o virtue_n or_o not_o hence_o it_o be_v that_o the_o holy_a apostle_n so_o fervent_o exhort_v we_o to_o the_o observance_n of_o all_o virtue_n and_o particular_o of_o that_o which_o be_v just_o god_n have_v make_v man_n a_o reasonable_a creature_n and_o by_o this_o distinguish_v he_o from_o brute_n now_o right_a reason_n be_v nothing_o but_o that_o eternal_a law_n which_o god_n have_v engrave_v upon_o every_o man_n soul_n and_o from_o this_o general_a law_n of_o reason_n be_v derive_v all_o particular_a virtue_n among_o which_o this_o of_o justice_n which_o always_o suppose_v some_o law_n to_o which_o as_o to_o some_o stand_a measure_n all_o its_o act_n must_v be_v reduce_v and_o make_v conformable_a for_o just_o in_o a_o large_a sense_n be_v no_o more_o than_o crongruous_a and_o agreeable_a and_o there_o must_v be_v something_o which_o of_o necessity_n must_v be_v the_o rule_n and_o measure_n of_o this_o congruity_n and_o agreeableness_n which_o can_v be_v nothing_o else_o but_o that_o nature_n of_o eternal_a reason_n that_o god_n have_v form_v in_o our_o soul_n hence_o it_o follow_v that_o to_o do_v that_o which_o be_v just_o be_v to_o do_v that_o which_o be_v agreeable_a to_o eternal_a and_o immutable_a reason_n but_o the_o word_n of_o the_o apostle_n here_o seem_v a_o little_a more_o restrain_v and_o confine_v and_o when_o he_o say_v whatever_o thing_n be_v just_a it_o be_v all_o one_o as_o whatsoever_o thing_n be_v righteous_a now_o righteousness_n that_o respect_v other_o and_o then_o to_o be_v just_o be_v to_o give_v every_o man_n his_o due_n and_o that_o we_o may_v know_v these_o thing_n the_o better_a christ_n give_v we_o a_o excellent_a rule_n which_o be_v indeed_o the_o foundation_n of_o all_o justice_n and_o for_o which_o the_o very_a heathen_n reverence_v christianity_n mat._n 7.12_o whatever_o you_o will_v that_o man_n shall_v do_v to_o you_o do_v you_o so_o to_o they_o into_o this_o great_a principle_n all_o natural_a justice_n and_o equity_n may_v be_v resolve_v which_o that_o we_o may_v not_o abuse_v by_o a_o wrong_a understanding_n of_o our_o saviour_n meaning_n as_o some_o be_v too_o apt_a to_o do_v thereby_o to_o palliate_v excuse_n or_o shift_v off_o their_o sin_n there_o be_v two_o thing_n to_o be_v consider_v 1._o that_o it_o be_v not_o christ_n mind_n to_o confound_v the_o different_a state_n and_o condition_n of_o man_n as_o if_o by_o this_o law_n prince_n be_v bind_v to_o perform_v all_o those_o duty_n back_o again_o to_o their_o subject_n that_o their_o subject_n do_v to_o they_o or_o that_o master_n be_v bind_v to_o obey_v their_o servant_n because_o they_o will_v have_v their_o servant_n obey_v they_o or_o that_o parent_n shall_v reverence_n their_o child_n because_o their_o child_n be_v oblige_v to_o reverence_n and_o honour_n they_o for_o this_o will_v destroy_v all_o the_o difference_n of_o thing_n and_o set_v prince_n and_o people_n master_n and_o servant_n parent_n and_o child_n upon_o equal_a term_n which_o it_o be_v never_o christ_n intent_n to_o do_v but_o only_o to_o consider_v how_o we_o will_v be_v deal_v withal_o if_o we_o be_v in_o the_o place_n of_o those_o we_o deal_v with_o and_o to_o act_n according_o 2._o nor_o do_v our_o saviour_n intend_v that_o this_o precept_n of_o do_v as_o we_o will_v be_v do_v by_o shall_v be_v enlarge_v to_o thing_n unjust_a and_o against_o the_o common_a and_o public_a good_a of_o mankind_n as_o for_o example_n because_o man_n that_o violate_v the_o sanction_n of_o right_n and_o just_a and_o break_v those_o law_n that_o be_v make_v for_o the_o common_a profit_n of_o the_o world_n will_v willing_o be_v free_v from_o punishment_n that_o therefore_o we_o be_v bind_v by_o this_o precept_n of_o christ_n to_o deal_v so_o with_o they_o for_o this_o will_v be_v to_o encourage_v all_o wickedness_n and_o impiety_n and_o to_o open_v a_o door_n to_o all_o the_o villainy_n and_o enormous_a action_n the_o vile_a wretch_n can_v think_v to_o commit_v this_o be_v to_o give_v a_o liberty_n to_o wicked_a man_n to_o invade_v that_o which_o be_v another_o and_o to_o countenance_n rapine_n and_o fraud_n by_o christ_n law_n therefore_o it_o be_v certain_a that_o our_o saviour_n who_o come_v to_o discountenance_v all_o vice_n and_o to_o give_v man_n rule_n of_o holy_a live_n and_o teach_v they_o justice_n and_o equity_n never_o intend_v his_o word_n shall_v be_v understand_v in_o this_o sense_n but_o his_o word_n be_v to_o be_v restrain_v to_o whatever_o be_v lawful_a and_o right_a that_o which_o be_v agreeable_a to_o the_o nature_n of_o god_n who_o be_v the_o high_a and_o most_o impartial_a justice_n a_o copy_n of_o which_o he_o have_v transcribe_v and_o write_v in_o every_o man_n soul_n and_o so_o the_o command_n signify_v thus_o much_o that_o we_o never_o do_v that_o to_o another_o which_o if_o we_o be_v in_o that_o other_o man_n place_n we_o will_v clear_o and_o true_o suppose_v to_o be_v injustice_n and_o against_o the_o law_n of_o evident_a and_o right_a reason_n to_o give_v a_o plain_a instance_n of_o this_o law_n if_o a_o man_n be_v bring_v into_o great_a difficulty_n strait_n and_o distress_n he_o will_v willing_o be_v relieve_v by_o those_o that_o be_v able_a to_o help_v he_o therefore_o now_o he_o must_v do_v the_o same_o to_o other_o and_o be_v ready_a to_o relieve_v they_o if_o a_o man_n will_v not_o be_v defraud_v or_o oppress_v by_o another_o he_o be_v bind_v by_o our_o saviour_n command_n to_o bear_v such_o a_o honest_a and_o just_a temper_n of_o mind_n as_o not_o to_o defraud_v and_o undermine_n and_o circumvent_v and_o oppress_v any_o other_o you_o see_v now_o by_o this_o what_o the_o apostle_n mean_v by_o thing_n that_o be_v just_a viz._n that_o it_o be_v to_o follow_v that_o excellent_a precept_n of_o our_o saviour_n in_o which_o all_o the_o part_n of_o justice_n be_v in_o a_o few_o word_n comprise_v i._n e._n to_o do_v as_o we_o will_v be_v do_v by_o now_o you_o will_v better_o understand_v and_o peradventure_o remember_v this_o if_o i_o show_v you_o in_o a_o few_o particular_n what_o every_o good_a man_n desire_v and_o will_v have_v do_v to_o he_o for_o than_o you_o will_v evident_o discern_v that_o what_o you_o desire_v to_o yourselves_o you_o ought_v to_o do_v to_o other_o 1._o every_o good_a man_n desire_v above_o all_o thing_n his_o own_o happiness_n both_o in_o this_o life_n and_o in_o the_o next_o and_o since_o he_o be_v so_o willing_a to_o have_v this_o for_o himself_o it_o be_v a_o piece_n of_o christian_a justice_n and_o charity_n that_o he_o shall_v stand_v so_o affect_v to_o all_o other_o he_o will_v not_o have_v any_o man_n disturb_v the_o ease_n and_o comfort_n and_o quiet_v of_o his_o life_n here_o he_o desire_v not_o to_o be_v pain_a or_o grieve_v or_o to_o have_v his_o spirit_n waste_v and_o consume_v with_o care_n and_o misery_n now_o if_o we_o will_v but_o be_v as_o just_a to_o other_o as_o we_o be_v to_o ourselves_o we_o shall_v not_o only_o desire_v but_o endeavour_n to_o help_v forward_o as_o far_o as_o we_o be_v able_a the_o happiness_n of_o all_o mankind_n we_o shall_v comfort_v those_o that_o be_v cast_v down_o and_o pour_v in_o the_o oil_n of_o joy_n and_o gladness_n into_o the_o bone_n that_o god_n have_v break_v we_o shall_v never_o behold_v any_o watery_a eye_n but_o be_v ready_a to_o dry_v they_o up_o nor_o find_v any_o ache_a head_n but_o endeavour_n to_o bound_v and_o ease_v they_o we_o shall_v never_o send_v away_o any_o without_o the_o real_a sign_n of_o our_o charity_n and_o compassion_n if_o there_o be_v any_o that_o desire_v our_o counsel_n and_o advice_n in_o weighty_a and_o doubtful_a affair_n any_o that_o be_v waver_v and_o unsettled_a in_o religion_n that_o stand_v in_o need_n of_o and_o want_v some_o faithful_a guide_n to_o resolve_v and_o settle_v their_o fluctuate_a mind_n all_o these_o be_v object_n to_o which_o this_o great_a law_n of_o justice_n oblige_v we_o to_o afford_v our_o best_a skill_n and_o assistance_n because_o we_o will_v desire_v the_o same_o at_o their_o hand_n if_o they_o be_v in_o our_o circumstance_n and_o we_o in_o they_o let_v those_o than_o reflect_v serious_o upon_o themselves_o and_o behold_v how_o far_o they_o be_v remove_v from_o this_o great_a law_n of_o justice_n and_o charity_n who_o take_v delight_n in_o the_o misery_n of_o other_o that_o be_v please_v in_o another_o ruin_n and_o affliction_n that_o have_v a_o inward_a joy_n and_o contentment_n as_o it_o be_v when_o they_o have_v defraud_v and_o overreached_n another_o and_o yet_o their_o own_o heart_n
