in_o scripture_n that_o be_v allowable_a one_o be_v religious_a and_o be_v a_o special_a duty_n due_a to_o god_n and_o command_v in_o the_o first_o table_n of_o the_o law_n the_o other_o be_v civil_a which_o be_v due_a to_o creature_n and_o command_v in_o the_o second_o table_n again_o this_o second_o sort_n be_v twofold_a the_o first_o be_v that_o which_o proceed_v from_o a_o reverence_v of_o man_n for_o their_o station_n or_o relation_n whatever_o their_o qualification_n be_v as_o magistrate_n minister_n parent_n great_a man_n etc._n etc._n the_o second_o be_v a_o reverential_a worship_v of_o man_n for_o their_o qualification_n of_o wisdom_n and_o holiness_n so_o we_o respect_v good_a man_n though_o they_o be_v not_o great_a as_o act._n 2.47_o such_o live_a saint_n get_v and_o in_o a_o great_a measure_n angel_n may_v have_v when_o they_o appear_v such_o be_v that_o which_o abraham_n and_o lot_n give_v to_o the_o angel_n gen._n 18._o and_o 19_o suppose_v they_o to_o be_v man_n paul_n and_o barnabas_n act._n 14._o and_o be_v also_o of_o diverse_a sort_n this_o here_o be_v not_o of_o the_o first_o two_o sort_n for_o it_o be_v not_o condemnable_a to_o worship_n god_n nor_o to_o give_v holy_a man_n and_o angel_n due_a reverence_n but_o it_o be_v this_o three_o sort_n a_o unlawful_a worship_n as_o appear_v by_o the_o angel_n reject_v it_o with_o so_o much_o zeal_n and_o earnestness_n these_o two_o way_n express_v 1._o by_o a_o vehement_a prohibition_n see_v thou_o do_v it_o not_o there_o be_v no_o more_o in_o the_o original_a but_o see_v no_o a_o abrupt_a cut_a expression_n such_o as_o be_v use_v when_o man_n hasten_v to_o prevent_v something_o they_o abhor_v and_o will_v fain_o prevent_v 2._o it_o be_v express_v by_o the_o press_a argument_n he_o use_v which_o be_v two_o 1._o this_o be_v not_o my_o due_n to_o be_v so_o worship_v i_o be_o say_v the_o angel_n thy_o fellow-servant_n not_o thy_o lord_n and_o the_o fellow-servant_n of_o thy_o brethren_n that_o have_v the_o testimony_n of_o jesus_n and_o be_v employ_v in_o his_o ministry_n we_o have_v but_o one_o ministry_n 1._o the_o angel_n to_o the_o prophet_n than_o the_o prophet_n to_o the_o may_v be_v call_v the_o testimony_n of_o jesus_n as_o belong_v peculiar_o to_o he_o therefore_o worship_n be_v not_o due_a to_o i_o who_o be_o but_o a_o servant_n with_o thou_o or_o to_o the_o same_o purpose_n read_v the_o word_n as_o they_o lie_v i_o be_o thy_o fellow-servant_n for_o the_o testimony_n of_o jesus_n or_o the_o ministry_n of_o the_o gospel_n call_v so_o for_o its_o bear_a witness_n to_o christ_n in_o which_o respect_n minister_n be_v often_o call_v witness_n see_v chap._n 22.8_o be_v the_o spirit_n of_o pprophecy_n that_o be_v be_v also_o his_o gift_n and_o way_n of_o reveal_v secret_n and_o edify_v of_o other_o as_o this_o more_o immediate_a message_n which_o i_o bear_v be_v they_o be_v of_o the_o same_o nature_n and_o kind_n of_o service_n and_o therefore_o from_o these_o who_o be_v employ_v in_o one_o of_o they_o religious_a worship_n be_v not_o due_a to_o the_o other_o they_o be_v fellow-servant_n for_o more_o clear_a open_v the_o doctrine_n contain_v in_o the_o word_n it_o may_v be_v ask_v 1._o if_o john_n sin_v 2._o what_o sort_n of_o sin_n 3._o how_o he_o be_v such_o a_o eminent_a servant_n of_o christ_n and_o in_o the_o midst_n of_o such_o revelation_n fall_v into_o it_o first_o that_o he_o sin_v we_o suppose_v be_v clear_a 1._o in_o that_o he_o never_o fall_v to_o worship_v a_o angel_n before_o

be_v equal_o excusable_a and_o sufferable_a now_o when_o it_o be_v so_o plain_o discover_v yea_o can_v it_o be_v say_v that_o they_o have_v be_v excusable_a if_o after_o paul_n teach_v of_o they_o the_o true_a nature_n of_o baptism_n and_o of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n they_o have_v continue_v not_o to_o believe_v the_o same_o as_o they_o be_v before_o he_o do_v it_o or_o that_o we_o can_v be_v so_o now_o have_v his_o lesson_n to_o they_o for_o our_o instruction_n yet_o second_o it_o seem_v that_o the_o person_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n be_v not_o intend_v there_o but_o the_o gift_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n which_o often_o get_v that_o name_n in_o the_o new_a testament_n for_o the_o holy_a ghost_n which_o be_v to_o be_v understand_v in_o that_o place_n be_v such_o as_o be_v communicate_v to_o believer_n and_o such_o as_o these_o afterward_o do_v receive_v as_o from_o ver_fw-la 2._o and_o 6._o be_v clear_a now_o there_o be_v great_a odds_o betwixt_o the_o necessity_n of_o distinctnesse_n in_o the_o knowledge_n of_o these_o gift_n and_o of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n himself_o who_o be_v not_o nor_o can_v be_v communicate_v by_o the_o lay_n on_o of_o hand_n except_o in_o do_v become_v our_o scope_n as_o first_o we_o see_v in_o this_o prayer_n john_n do_v distinct_o name_v all_o the_o three_o bless_a person_n for_o their_o instruction_n and_o consolation_n to_o who_o he_o send_v this_o message_n second_o when_o he_o name_v the_o son_n he_o do_v name_v he_o by_o such_o title_n as_o agree_v to_o he_o only_o as_o mediator_n yea_o and_o in_o this_o song_n ver_fw-la 6._o do_v respect_n that_o particular_o which_o be_v only_o applicable_a to_o he_o as_o man_n and_o as_o mediator_n to_o make_v they_o welcome_v it_o the_o more_o hearty_o and_o thereby_o also_o the_o the_o father_n or_o spirit_n which_o be_v indeed_o divine_a worship_n be_v the_o same_o which_o be_v here_o give_v to_o the_o father_n and_o spirit_n all_o which_o give_v occasion_n to_o inquire_v in_o these_o four_o 1._o concern_v the_o object_n of_o divine_a worship_n in_o general_n 2._o in_o what_o respect_n it_o be_v to_o be_v give_v to_o the_o mediator_n 3._o in_o what_o form_n petition_n may_v be_v direct_v to_o he_o or_o if_o in_o any_o peculiar_a form_n 4._o why_o the_o mediator_n christ_n be_v so_o much_o and_o so_o warm_o under_o these_o consideration_n of_o his_o incarnation_n and_o suffering_n insist_v upon_o in_o the_o new_a testament_n and_o what_o may_v encourage_v and_o help_v in_o the_o improve_n of_o those_o ground_n these_o thing_n be_v deipth_n be_v rather_o to_o be_v admire_v and_o believe_v in_o in_o the_o general_a so_o far_o as_o we_o see_v clear_a in_o this_o precedent_n than_o curious_o to_o be_v pry_v into_o yet_o that_o they_o go_v not_o altogether_o without_o answer_n we_o shall_v lay_v down_o some_o general_n in_o reference_n to_o all_o these_o which_o will_v yield_v some_o practical_a and_o comfortable_a conclusion_n to_o the_o first_o we_o say_v 1._o god_n be_v the_o alone_a object_n of_o divine_a worship_n and_o there_o be_v no_o object_n thereof_o but_o god_n because_o there_o be_v none_o who_o have_v these_o infinite_a attribute_n and_o excellency_n which_o be_v requisite_a in_o the_o object_n of_o divine_a worship_n but_o god_n such_o as_o omnisciencie_n omnipotency_n infinitness_n supreme_a majesty_n glory_n etc._n etc._n from_o which_o to_o speak_v so_o result_v adorability_n a_o essential_a attribute_n of_o the_o majesty_n of_o god_n as_o immutability_n and_o eternity_n be_v he_o be_v adorable_a because_o infinite_a immense_a omniscient_a etc._n etc._n and_o therefore_o it_o can_v be_v communicate_v to_o any_o other_o more_o than_o these_o incommunicable_a property_n can_v be_v and_o yet_o none_o can_v be_v worship_v who_o be_v not_o so_o to_o speak_v adorable_a 2._o there_o be_v but_o one_o kind_n of_o divine_a worship_n to_o wit_n that_o which_o be_v supreme_a and_o become_v this_o infinite_a majesty_n of_o god_n and_o in_o a_o word_n that_o which_o be_v require_v in_o the_o first_o table_n of_o the_o law_n as_o that_o which_o be_v competent_a to_o this_o glorious_a excellent_a god_n and_o this_o follow_v on_o the_o former_a for_o if_o there_o be_v but_o one_o object_n there_o can_v be_v but_o one_o manner_n of_o worship_n therefore_o in_o scripture_n to_o worship_n god_n be_v always_o oppose_v to_o the_o worship_v of_o any_o other_o and_o to_o the_o admit_v of_o any_o worship_n which_o be_v not_o competent_a to_o god_n as_o revel_v 19.9_o 10_o and_o 22.9_o 3._o although_o there_o be_v three_o person_n of_o the_o glorious_a godhead_n and_o all_o be_v to_o be_v worship_v yet_o there_o be_v not_o three_o object_n of_o worship_n but_o one_o nor_o three_o kind_n of_o worship_n not_o three_o object_n because_o these_o three_o person_n be_v the_o same_o one_o infinite_a god_n who_o be_v the_o object_n of_o worship_n for_o first_o though_o the_o three_o person_n be_v real_o distinct_a each_o from_o other_o yet_o none_o of_o they_o be_v real_o distinct_a from_o the_o essence_n of_o the_o godhead_n therefore_o the_o father_n be_v that_o same_o object_n of_o worship_n with_o the_o son_n because_o that_o same_o god_n and_o second_o though_o the_o father_n be_v infinite_a and_o the_o son_n infinite_a etc._n etc._n yet_o there_o be_v not_o two_o infinitness_n but_o the_o same_o infinitness_n and_o immenseness_n that_o which_o be_v the_o father_n be_v the_o son_n also_o because_o these_o be_v essential_a property_n and_o so_o common_a to_o all_o the_o person_n and_o therefore_o though_o their_o personal_a property_n be_v distinct_a yet_o their_o essential_a attribute_n be_v common_a they_o be_v not_o distinct_a object_n but_o the_o same_o one_o object_n see_v still_o in_o worship_n respect_n must_v be_v have_v to_o their_o essential_a attribute_n and_o so_o to_o the_o godhead_n which_o be_v common_a to_o all_o and_o therefore_o consequent_o to_o they_o as_o they_o be_v one_o object_n it_o be_v the_o deity_n which_o be_v one_o that_o be_v the_o formal_a object_n of_o worship_n and_o though_o sometime_o these_o three_o person_n be_v name_v together_o as_o here_o yet_o that_o be_v not_o to_o propose_v they_o as_o distinct_a object_n but_o to_o show_v who_o this_o one_o object_n god_n be_v to_o wit_n the_o father_n son_n and_o spirit_n three_o person_n of_o the_o same_o one_o indivisible_a godhead_n hence_o the_o unity_n of_o the_o godhead_n be_v inculcate_v for_o this_o end_n the_o lord_n thy_o god_n o_o israel_n be_v one_o lord._n from_o which_o it_o follow_v 1._o that_o the_o mind_n of_o the_o worshipper_n be_v not_o to_o be_v distract_v in_o seek_v to_o comprehend_v or_o order_n in_o his_o thought_n three_o distinct_a person_n as_o distinct_a object_n of_o worship_n but_o to_o conceive_v reverent_o of_o one_o infinite_a god_n who_o be_v three_o person_n 2._o that_o whatever_o person_n be_v name_v he_o be_v not_o to_o think_v that_o the_o other_o be_v less_o worship_v but_o that_o in_o one_o act_n he_o worship_n that_o one_o god_n and_o so_o the_o father_n son_n and_o spirit_n 3._o that_o by_o name_v one_o person_n after_o he_o have_v name_v a_o other_o suppose_v he_o name_v the_o father_n at_o first_o and_o afterward_o the_o son_n he_o do_v not_o vary_v the_o object_n of_o worship_n as_o if_o he_o be_v pray_v to_o a_o other_o than_o former_o but_o that_o still_o it_o be_v the_o same_o one_o god_n 4._o because_o our_o imagination_n

object_n of_o worship_n yet_o do_v they_o give_v some_o external_a denomination_n or_o specification_n of_o that_o object_n god_n to_o they_o the_o consideration_n whereof_o in_o their_o worship_v do_v much_o qualify_v the_o object_n to_o they_o so_o that_o with_o the_o more_o thankfulness_n and_o confidence_n they_o may_v approach_v to_o he_o and_o thus_o we_o distinguish_v between_o the_o object_n worship_v and_o the_o consideration_n which_o may_v be_v have_v of_o he_o in_o our_o worship_n and_o this_o do_v not_o make_v he_o adorable_a simple_o and_o in_o himself_o because_o he_o be_v so_o natural_o but_o it_o be_v the_o ground_n upon_o which_o he_o be_v accessible_a to_o we_o who_o be_v sinner_n and_o enemy_n from_o which_o we_o may_v lay_v down_o a_o threefold_a distinction_n 1._o betwixt_o the_o material_a and_o formal_a object_n of_o worship_n 2._o betwixt_o the_o object_n of_o the_o act_n of_o worship_n and_o of_o our_o consideration_n in_o worship_v 3._o betwixt_o that_o which_o be_v the_o ground_n of_o worship_n suppose_v prayer_n faith_n simple_o consider_v in_o itself_o and_o that_o which_o be_v the_o ground_n of_o our_o access_n consider_v in_o ourselves_o to_o pray_v unto_o or_o believe_v in_o that_o object_n to_o answer_v then_o the_o question_n we_o say_v 1._o that_o the_o mediator_n be_v the_o object_n of_o divine_a worship_n be_v fix_o to_o be_v acknowledge_v even_o the_o man_n christ_n be_v to_o be_v honour_v with_o divine_a worship_n pray_v unto_o etc._n etc._n as_o in_o scripture_n be_v clear_a thus_o the_o mediator_n be_v the_o material_a of_o our_o worship_n or_o to_o have_v prayer_n grant_v which_o we_o put_v up_o to_o god_n under_o what_o ever_o designation_n or_o title_n for_o so_o he_o be_v the_o door_n and_o the_o way_n joh._n 10.9_o and_o 14.6_o and_o in_o this_o respect_n though_o he_o be_v not_o as_o such_o the_o formal_a object_n of_o divine_a worship_n yet_o he_o be_v the_o foundation_n whereupon_o it_o be_v now_o build_v the_o way_n by_o which_o it_o must_v be_v address_v to_o god_n and_o he_o be_v the_o high_a priest_n heb._n 7.25_o this_o be_v typify_v by_o the_o temple_n ark_n and_o high_a priest_n under_o the_o law_n for_o sinner_n have_v not_o access_n to_o god_n but_o by_o he_o and_o this_o strengthen_v faith_n to_o approach_v that_o god_n be_v manifest_v in_o our_o nature_n and_o that_o so_o we_o have_v by_o his_o suffering_n entry_n through_o the_o veil_n to_o the_o throne_n of_o grace_n which_o former_o without_o respect_n to_o this_o be_v shut_v 3._o our_o lord_n jesus_n who_o be_v god_n in_o our_o worship_v of_o he_o may_v be_v consider_v as_o mediator_n and_o upon_o that_o ground_n the_o heart_n may_v be_v embolden_v to_o approach_v unto_o god_n because_o he_o that_o be_v god_n be_v also_o man_n and_o mediator_n thus_o we_o praise_v and_o pray_v to_o he_o that_o die_v and_o consider_v he_o as_o once_o dead_a in_o our_o uptake_n of_o he_o yet_o so_o as_o it_o be_v because_o he_o be_v god_n for_o have_v it_o be_v possible_a that_o the_o mediator_n can_v not_o have_v be_v god_n there_o have_v not_o be_v ground_n for_o give_v of_o this_o worship_n unto_o he_o yet_o this_o consideration_n warm_v the_o heart_n with_o love_n to_o he_o and_o give_v confidence_n and_o chearfulnesse_n in_o pray_v to_o he_o or_o praise_v of_o he_o as_o in_o this_o same_o place_n and_o afterward_o cap._n 5._o because_o see_v we_o have_v a_o man_n to_o do_v with_o who_o have_v so_o experimental_o feel_v sinless_a infirmity_n of_o purpose_n to_o be_v the_o ground_n of_o a_o sympathy_n with_o his_o member_n and_o see_v he_o have_v still_o humane_a affection_n by_o have_v a_o glorify_a body_n still_o unite_v in_o one_o person_n with_o his_o divine_a nature_n which_o want_v not_o humane_a feel_n though_o in_o a_o inconceivable_a manner_n and_o see_v also_o that_o that_o be_v give_v in_o the_o word_n as_o a_o encouragement_n for_o we_o to_o step_v forward_o to_o expect_v grace_n and_o help_v in_o the_o time_n of_o need_n heb._n 2.18_o and_o 4.15_o 16._o and_o that_o even_o from_o he_o there_o be_v no_o question_n but_o by_o the_o actual_a consider_v of_o this_o a_o soul_n may_v and_o aught_o to_o strengthen_v itself_o in_o its_o approach_n unto_o god_n 4._o yet_o this_o divine_a worship_n be_v give_v to_o he_o as_o he_o be_v god_n and_o because_o he_o be_v god_n
