industry_n they_o both_o promise_v a_o plentiful_a harvest_n and_o return_v yet_o it_o be_v subject_a to_o many_o casualty_n before_o it_o can_v be_v reap_v and_o in_v as_o to_o blast_v mildew_n penitential_a air_n inundatiou_n fire_n locust_n caterpillar_n and_o several_a sort_n of_o worm_n and_o devour_a creature_n which_o threaten_v death_n to_o man_n and_o beast_n if_o the_o fruit_n of_o the_o earth_n be_v lay_v up_o in_o his_o barn_n and_o storehouse_n yet_o they_o be_v in_o danger_n if_o his_o house_n be_v furnish_v and_o his_o treasury_n store_v with_o rich_a and_o precious_a good_n yet_o he_o be_v in_o peril_n of_o thief_n oppressor_n plunderer_n by_o land_n and_o his_o merchandise_n by_o sea_n of_o pirate_n and_o merciless_a enemy_n neither_o can_v the_o liberty_n of_o his_o person_n be_v secure_a because_o of_o imprisonment_n banishment_n captivity_n his_o credit_n and_o reputation_n can_v not_o be_v safe_a but_o he_o may_v suffer_v in_o this_o particular_a and_o be_v stain_v by_o reproach_n slander_n his_o own_o imprudent_a or_o base_a carriage_n his_o public_a peace_n and_o safety_n may_v be_v disturb_v by_o sedition_n rebellion_n civil_a war_n and_o foreign_a invasion_n and_o his_o house_n land_n good_n possess_v by_o stranger_n or_o make_v desolate_a and_o he_o may_v suffer_v from_o enemy_n desertion_n of_o friend_n treachery_n ill_a neighbour_n bad_a servant_n his_o parent_n brother_n sister_n near_o kindred_n nay_o from_o his_o own_o child_n issue_v out_o of_o his_o own_o bowel_n he_o may_v be_v curse_v in_o his_o cattle_n in_o his_o child_n in_o his_o land_n in_o all_o his_o design_n by_o his_o sinâ—â—e_n provoke_v god_n arm_a heaven_n earth_n ayr_n sea_n and_o all_o creature_n against_o he_o his_o spiritual_a condition_n be_v much_o prejudice_v by_o evil_a education_n bad_a example_n pernicious_a counsel_n ungodly_a company_n and_o many_o other_o way_n these_o penalty_n and_o many_o more_o be_v record_v in_o the_o scripture_n and_o in_o the_o great_a volume_n of_o divine_a providence_n and_o store_v up_o in_o the_o treasure_n of_o god_n almighty_a and_o severe_a justice_n to_o make_v a_o more_o full_a enumeration_n of_o the_o misery_n whereunto_o man_n by_o his_o first_o sin_n and_o god_n just_a judgement_n be_v expose_v and_o reduce_v they_o into_o a_o method_n will_v take_v up_o a_o great_a volume_n of_o the_o penalty_n to_o be_v endure_v after_o this_o life_n i_o will_v not_o now_o say_v any_o thing_n these_o penalty_n 1._o be_v spiritual_a §_o v_o bodily_a temporal_a private_a public_a degree_n of_o these_o punishment_n and_o the_o continuance_n of_o they_o may_v be_v for_o ever_o so_o far_o as_o man_n be_v capable_a for_o ever_o to_o suffer_v they_o 3._o though_o every_o son_n of_o adam_n be_v subject_a to_o these_o yet_o god_n do_v not_o inflict_v they_o all_o upon_o any_o son_n of_o adam_n 4._o these_o punishment_n may_v be_v deserve_v by_o other_o sin_n against_o the_o law_n of_o nature_n which_o the_o gentile_n violate_v against_o the_o law_n of_o moses_n which_o the_o jew_n transgress_v against_o the_o gospel_n which_o christian_n violate_v and_o many_o of_o god_n own_o child_n may_v just_o suffer_v for_o all_o actual_a sin_n be_v not_o mere_o from_o original_a corruption_n though_o it_o be_v a_o curse_a root_n of_o all_o kind_n of_o iniquity_n 5._o these_o penalty_n yet_o this_o privation_n may_v be_v understand_v active_o or_o passive_o active_o and_o so_o it_o be_v a_o take_v away_o from_o one_o that_o have_v it_o or_o deny_v it_o to_o one_o who_o never_o actual_o receive_v it_o in_o the_o first_o sense_n god_n take_v it_o from_o adam_n in_o the_o latter_a sense_n he_o deny_v it_o to_o all_o his_o posterity_n in_o what_o manner_n god_n be_v in_o this_o act_n to_o be_v consider_v or_o what_o be_v the_o reason_n why_o he_o do_v thus_o i_o do_v not_o here_o inquire_v passive_o consider_v it_o respect_v the_o subject_a from_o who_o it_o be_v take_v or_o of_o they_o all_o and_o do_v necessary_o presuppose_v the_o be_v quality_n act_n as_o the_o subject_a all_o this_o do_v imply_v that_o this_o righteousness_n be_v a_o excellent_a quality_n do_v much_o ennoble_v and_o perfect_a man_n and_o do_v depend_v both_o in_o fieri_fw-la &_o in_fw-la facto_fw-la as_o they_o speak_v upon_o a_o superior_a and_o intelligent-supernatural-tree_n agent_n who_o can_v give_v it_o &_o continue_v it_o as_o also_o upon_o cause_n take_v it_o away_o and_o if_o once_o the_o soul_n lose_v it_o upon_o demerit_n or_o any_o other_o way_n it_o be_v make_v imperfect_a defective_a and_o base_a and_o the_o inclination_n and_o motion_n be_v unworthy_a so_o noble_a a_o creature_n and_o so_o much_o the_o more_o because_o a_o superior_a spirit_n have_v power_n to_o delude_v and_o deceive_v the_o mind_n and_o incline_v the_o heart_n to_o evil_n this_o be_v the_o reason_n why_o so_o many_o be_v say_v to_o walk_v after_o the_o prince_n of_o the_o power_n of_o darkness_n that_o now_o work_v in_o the_o
child_n of_o disobedience_n but_o §_o two_o second_o whether_o be_v this_o corruption_n which_o in_o scripture_n be_v call_v the_o flesh_n concupiscence_n sin_n the_o body_n of_o sin_n etc._n etc._n before_o the_o formal_a reason_n and_o nature_n of_o sin_n be_v take_v away_o and_o by_o the_o same_o reason_n it_o will_v follow_v that_o so_o far_o as_o it_o be_v not_o take_v away_o it_o be_v proper_o sin_n it_o be_v place_v by_o many_o of_o they_o especial_o in_o the_o sensitive_a appetite_n but_o certain_o it_o be_v find_v in_o the_o rational_a appetite_n and_o the_o will_n and_o must_v needs_o be_v moral_o evil_a and_o they_o confess_v that_o it_o must_v be_v resist_v and_o subdue_v some_o remonstrant_n and_o corvinus_n among_o the_o rest_n deny_v it_o to_o be_v proper_o sin_n upon_o another_o account_n because_o though_o it_o be_v material_o contrary_a unto_o the_o law_n yet_o formal_o it_o be_v not_o so_o and_o why_o because_o the_o law_n forbid_v future_a ill_a act_n not_o habit_n but_o yet_o this_o be_v not_o precise_o true_a because_o the_o law_n forbid_v to_o all_o such_o as_o be_v under_o a_o law_n not_o only_o the_o future_a evil_a act_n but_o also_o disposition_n and_o habit_n especial_o such_o as_o depend_v any_o way_n on_o acts._n but_o to_o give_v a_o more_o perfect_a resolve_v of_o this_o question_n §_o iii_o we_o must_v 1._o distinguish_v of_o sin_n habitual_a and_o actual_a and_o actual_a sin_n it_o be_v not_o 2._o we_o may_v consider_v it_o as_o it_o be_v in_o we_o by_o conception_n and_o birth_n and_o a_o natural_a habit_n if_o i_o may_v so_o speak_v or_o as_o improve_v and_o increase_v by_o many_o actual_a sin_n and_o so_o become_v a_o acquire_v vicious_a habit_n and_o thus_o in_o this_o latter_a sense_n paul_n seem_v to_o take_v it_o rom._n 7._o and_o elsewhere_o in_o this_o latter_a sense_n few_o will_v deny_v it_o to_o be_v sin_n and_o by_o the_o same_o reason_n it_o may_v be_v sin_n in_o the_o former_a sense_n 3._o we_o may_v conceive_v of_o this_o original_a corruption_n and_o the_o want_n of_o original_a righteousness_n as_o take_v away_o or_o deny_v upon_o a_o former_a demerit_n and_o so_o it_o be_v certain_o a_o punishment_n or_o absolute_o in_o itself_o as_o a_o quality_n disposition_n or_o habit_n inherent_a in_o we_o and_o so_o it_o be_v not_o proper_o a_o punishment_n but_o a_o sin_n yet_o it_o be_v not_o so_o a_o sin_n in_o we_o as_o it_o be_v in_o adam_n for_o adam_n once_o have_v original_a righteousness_n entire_a we_o have_v not_o adam_n lose_v it_o by_o the_o demerit_n of_o a_o actual_a
