ecclesiastical_a usurpation_n &_o power_n those_o ecclesiastical_a officer_n which_o i_o account_n to_o want_n unto_o our_o church_n be_v lay_v elder_n or_o governor_n in_o every_o parish_n church_n who_o with_o though_o under_o the_o clergy_n in_o that_o church_n shall_v govern_v the_o church_n in_o that_o parish_n but_o because_o these_o be_v not_o only_o not_o as_o yet_o admit_v in_o this_o cor._n 12_o 28_o say_v thus_o and_o god_n have_v ordain_v some_o in_o the_o church_n as_o first_o apostle_n second_o prophet_n three_o teacher_n then_o they_o that_o do_v miracle_n after_o that_o teacher_n for_o this_o manner_n interrogation_n of_o the_o apostle_n prove_v that_o as_o all_o teacher_n be_v not_o apostle_n so_o those_o name_v after_o teacher_n be_v not_o teacher_n and_o indeed_o teachinge_a but_o from_o rulinge_v to_o labouringe_v in_o the_o word_n this_o argue_v undeniable_o that_o some_o for_o rulinge_v well_o only_o be_v worthy_a of_o double_a honour_n for_o when_o the_o mean_v that_o all_o these_o elder_n be_v teacher_n and_o that_o he_o special_o commend_v some_o of_o they_o for_o labouringe_v or_o take_v more_o pain_n in_o the_o word_n than_o other_o take_v than_o it_o will_v follow_v first_o that_o not_o for_o rule_v well_o only_o some_o be_v to_o have_v double_a honour_n which_o thing_n be_v direct_o against_o this_o scripture_n second_o that_o some_o teacher_n be_v worthy_a of_o double_a honour_n for_o rulinge_v well_o only_o though_o they_o teach_v not_o at_o all_o but_o this_o be_v a_o error_n not_o to_o be_v conceive_v in_o the_o apostle_n see_v not_o to_o teach_v but_o only_a rule_n be_v in_o a_o teacher_n or_o preacher_n of_o the_o gospel_n such_o a_o neglect_n of_o a_o very_a special_a duty_n as_o that_o such_o teacher_n be_v worthy_a rather_o of_o reproof_n and_o punishment_n then_o of_o double_a honour_n moreover_o if_o the_o apostle_n will_v have_v we_o understande_v that_o some_o teacher_n be_v worthy_a of_o double_a honour_n for_o rulinge_v well_o but_o special_o such_o as_o labour_v more_o painful_o in_o teachinge_a than_o it_o have_v benefit_n he_o shall_v have_v say_v those_o elder_n that_o teach_v and_o rule_v well_o be_v worthy_a of_o double_a honour_n special_o they_o that_o labour_v in_o the_o word_n more_o than_o other_o for_o very_o it_o be_v a_o unfit_a skippinge_n from_o rulinge_v to_o a_o people_n to_o have_v be_v divide_v into_o many_o arch-bishopdomes_a and_o this_o without_o subiugatinge_v every_o of_o they_o to_o the_o archbishopp_n of_o some_o one_o city_n who_o by_o this_o mean_n as_o he_o be_v to_o take_v a_o new_a title_n so_o also_o he_o enter_v into_o a_o new_a ministration_n never_o ordain_v by_o the_o lord_n if_o any_o say_v have_v not_o every_o snccessor_n right_a to_o retain_v the_o bownd_n of_o his_o predecessor_n jurisdiction_n i_o answer_v yes_o where_o there_o be_v no_o prejudice_n thereby_o to_o the_o church_n and_o to_o the_o ordinance_n of_o god_n but_o when_o retayninge_v the_o same_o he_o must_v necessary_o rule_v over_o they_o who_o god_n by_o his_o ordinance_n set_v next_o unto_o apostle_n he_o than_o subvert_v the_o ordinance_n of_o god_n so_o be_v patriarch_n as_o also_o cardinal_n as_o now_o cardinal_n be_v &_o pope_n legate_n and_o a_o rabble_n of_o other_o who_o all_o serve_v rather_o as_o minister_n of_o this_o corruption_n of_o ecclesiastical_a polity_n warrant_v by_o god_n then_o of_o the_o church_n &_o of_o the_o gospel_n for_o how_o many_o be_v the_o officer_n which_o the_o pope_n of_o rome_n need_v for_o to_o serve_v he_o only_o in_o the_o execution_n of_o so_o large_a a_o jurisdiction_n as_o now_o he_o exercise_v even_o so_o proportionable_o be_v it_o with_o every_o patriarch_n yea_o with_o every_o arch-bisshop_a when_o he_o have_v a_o jurisdiction_n so_o far_o extend_v four_o as_o that_o neither_o he_o can_v personal_o visit_v convenient_o the_o part_n of_o his_o charge_n nor_o they_o of_o his_o charge_n cann_v convenient_o make_v accusation_n unto_o he_o if_o the_o parishional_a or_o episcopal_a goverment_n fail_v in_o execution_n of_o justice_n but_o now_o seinge_v god_n have_v give_v so_o bless_a testimony_n to_o the_o reforminge_v of_o thing_n by_o his_o word_n in_o scripture_n why_o shall_v not_o such_o office_n be_v cut_v off_o as_o superfluous_a and_o just_o offensive_a which_o exercise_n any_o authority_n over_o the_o arch-bishop_n of_o the_o christian_a church_n shall_v we_o not_o think_v that_o the_o lord_n expect_v a_o reformation_n even_o herein_o aswell_o as_o in_o doctrine_n shall_v not_o his_o word_n direction_n be_v of_o power_n with_o we_o aswell_o in_o reforminge_v error_n of_o jurisdiction_n or_o power_n &_o office_n as_o in_o reforminge_v of_o doctrynes_n therefore_o if_o the_o scripture_n show_v that_o the_o office_n of_o timothy_n &_o titus_n be_v the_o high_a ordinary_a office_n in_o the_o church_n after_o apostle_n cease_v as_o be_v in_o the_o life_n time_n of_o the_o apostle_n next_o to_o the_o apostle_n and_o if_o there_o be_v good_a evidence_n that_o those_o have_v under_o they_o at_o the_o most_o but_o bishopp_n of_o city_n then_o why_o seeminge-charge_a of_o the_o church_n in_o great_a extent_n we_o find_v in_o ancient_a time_n not_o
music_n and_o with_o the_o sight_n of_o the_o stately_a ordetinge_v and_o performance_n of_o thing_n but_o this_o without_o caringe_v at_o any_o time_n to_o worship_n god_n in_o the_o spirit_n and_o with_o the_o understand_a so_o that_o they_o only_o stand_v gazinge_v thinkinge_v it_o a_o sufficient_a worship_n if_o they_o have_v but_o be_v there_o &_o see_v divine_a service_n but_o as_o this_o evell_n in_o god_n people_n can_v but_o be_v displeasinge_a to_o god_n so_o sure_o if_o some_o good_a order_n be_v not_o take_v for_o redress_v hereof_o it_o can_v but_o endanger_v the_o lord_n acceptance_n of_o the_o very_a service_n its_o self_n for_o it_o be_v not_o so_o much_o the_o service_n wherein_o a_o few_o worship_n as_o the_o worship_n of_o many_o in_o spirit_n that_o he_o regard_v thus_o have_v write_v of_o my_o first_o petition_n i_o humble_o pray_v that_o i_o may_v proceed_v to_o the_o second_o if_o only_o be_v be_v heed_v in_o they_o admit_v minister_n in_o the_o divine_a service_n as_o if_o so_o they_o be_v skilful_a then_o it_o matter_n not_o what_o their_o life_n and_o conversation_n be_v then_o when_o any_o profane_a or_o irreligious_o dispose_v person_n be_v admit_v we_o from_o experience_n cann_v hardly_o expect_v other_o then_o that_o their_o unsanctified_a soul_n will_v bring_v four_o as_o profaneness_n in_o their_o life_n and_o conversation_n abroad_o so_o irreverence_n and_o a_o measure_n of_o profaneness_n in_o the_o very_a execution_n of_o their_o part_n in_o the_o divine_a worship_n but_o when_o people_n see_v irreverence_n or_o any_o measure_n profaneness_n in_o the_o minister_n it_o abate_v their_o devotion_n and_o be_v no_o small_a scandal_n to_o the_o service_n its_o self_n therefore_o i_o humble_o petition_n that_o our_o bishop_n have_v not_o care_n that_o they_o reverent_o perform_v their_o part_n in_o the_o service_n only_o but_o also_o that_o they_o or_o the_o dean_n do_v inquire_v of_o their_o life_n and_o conversation_n abroad_o also_o out_o of_o the_o church_n for_o if_o abroad_o in_o their_o house_n or_o common_a company_n they_o be_v wanton_a lascivious_a or_o profane_a no_o awe_n will_v serve_v to_o restrain_v that_o in_o the_o service_n also_o their_o disposition_n break_v not_o four_o upon_o every_o little_a advantage_n or_o opportunity_n to_o show_v the_o same_o if_o therefore_o our_o bishopp_n and_o dean_n inquire_v after_o the_o common_a life_n and_o conversation_n of_o such_o what_o it_o be_v abroad_o out_o of_o the_o church_n if_o also_o they_o inquire_v whither_o in_o their_o family_n they_o use_v or_o neglect_v religious_a duty_n such_o as_o be_v eveninge_a prayer_n at_o leastwise_o grace_v before_o &_o after_o meat_n read_n the_o divine_a scripture_n repeatinge_v of_o sermon_n some_o time_n and_o some_o time_n chatechisinge_v then_o this_o will_v awe_n they_o to_o exercise_v themselves_o to_o a_o holiness_n of_o life_n and_o conversation_n especial_o if_o as_o they_o shall_v be_v find_v conformable_a or_o disorderly_a so_o they_o shall_v be_v admit_v or_o put_v by_o the_o service_n yea_o it_o be_v good_a that_o a_o exhortation_n be_v give_v to_o all_o that_o if_o any_o of_o they_o know_v any_o among_o they_o to_o be_v loose_a and_o lascivious_a of_o speech_n profane_a in_o conversation_n or_o negligent_a of_o religious_a duty_n in_o their_o family_n they_o shall_v inform_v the_o bishop_n or_o deane_n of_o the_o same_o that_o so_o the_o party_n may_v be_v observe_v &_o as_o occasion_n be_v give_v be_v proceed_v against_o very_o it_o great_o endanger_v the_o service_n both_o towards_o god_n and_o towards_o man_n when_o the_o minister_n of_o the_o same_o be_v know_v to_o be_v wicked_a man_n in_o their_o life_n and_o conversation_n for_o it_o can_v be_v but_o that_o the_o lord_n shall_v turn_v his_o face_n even_o from_o a_o good_a service_n execute_v by_o such_o if_o authority_n allow_v such_o to_o be_v minister_n therein_o as_o heretosote_v srequent_v by_o your_o people_n i_o may_v here_o add_v the_o like_a petition_n against_o our_o clerk_n of_o parish_n who_o common_o be_v of_o the_o lewd_a of_o the_o partish_a for_o life_n and_o conversation_n do_v also_o so_o irreverent_o unskilful_o and_o unseemly_a perform_v their_o office_n that_o the_o people_n of_o god_n can_v but_o take_v offence_n there_o at_o and_o this_o to_o the_o scandal_n of_o the_o service_n its_o self_n of_o out_o church_n to_o conclude_v my_o collection_n together_o with_o my_o observation_n upon_o these_o collect_v scripture_n i_o now_o humble_o petition_n that_o as_o here_o it_o be_v say_v that_o the_o king_n and_o the_o prince_n command_v &c_n &c_n so_o as_o in_o your_o presence_n yourself_o see_v to_o these_o thing_n so_o likewise_o in_o place_n remote_a from_o your_o sacred_a presence_n your_o prince_n and_o magistrate_n by_o commission_n from_o you_o may_v have_v power_n and_o authority_n to_o see_v that_o divine_a service_n be_v celebrate_v orderly_o and_o reverent_o throughout_o the_o kingdom_n so_o will_v our_o bishop_n and_o other_o ecclesiastical_a officer_n be_v the_o more_o careful_a that_o just_a cause_n of_o reproof_n be_v not_o give_v not_o just_a cause_n of_o your_o prince_n and_o magistrate_n proceed_v against_o any_o for_o disorder_n and_o unseemly_a performance_n of_o duty_n these_o collection_n little_a show_n of_o godliness_n fear_v of_o god_n or_o faith_n as_o in_o the_o most_o ignorant_a and_o profane_a family_n of_o your_o kingdom_n no_o morning_n or_o eveninge_a prayer_n scarce_o grace_v before_o and_o after_o meat_n little_a or_o no_o read_n of_o the_o scripture_n no_o repetition_n of_o sermon_n nor_o any_o catechise_n throughout_o the_o year_n as_o for_o your_o people_n in_o such_o parish_n you_o shall_v common_o find_v they_o ignorant_a in_o divine_a mystery_n necessary_a to_o salvation_n careless_a to_o know_v they_o at_o all_o swearer_n drinker_n jester_n filthy_a
