sense_n the_o same_o which_o we_o affirm_v it_o to_o be_v in_o our_o apology_n whence_o it_o appear_v that_o my_o reverend_a brother_n have_v here_o yield_v the_o cause_n and_o be_v come_v over_o to_o our_o camp_n and_o if_o he_o will_v be_v consistent_a with_o himself_o here_o may_v be_v a_o end_n of_o the_o controversy_n about_o the_o gospel_n be_v a_o law_n with_o respect_n to_o justification_n for_o assure_o we_o mean_v no_o more_o than_o that_o it_o prescribe_v seek_v by_o faith_n and_o repentance_n and_o chief_o by_o faith_n as_o aforesaid_a and_o this_o be_v the_o common_o receive_v the_o gospel_n require_v of_o we_o some_o work_n yet_o it_o be_v no_o law_n of_o work_n for_o it_o do_v not_o require_v any_o work_n that_o we_o may_v be_v justify_v either_o in_o whole_a or_o in_o part_n by_o and_o for_o those_o work_n as_o such_o nor_o be_v we_o for_o they_o in_o the_o least_o justityed_a at_o the_o bar_n of_o god_n they_o be_v not_o any_o of_o they_o the_o least_o part_n of_o that_o rigateousness_n by_o and_o for_o which_o we_o be_v justify_v this_o we_o have_v declare_v and_o explain_v to_o full_o and_o clear_o in_o our_o apology_n that_o we_o can_v but_o wonder_v that_o any_o christian_n that_o be_v endue_v with_o common_a honesty_n and_o have_v read_v and_o understand_v our_o say_a apology_n shall_v persist_v in_o accuse_v we_o of_o hold_v justification_n by_o work_n or_o in_o assert_v confident_o that_o it_o follow_v by_o good_a consequence_n from_o our_o principle_n that_o consequence_n my_o reverend_a brother_n can_v never_o prove_v for_o though_o repentance_n be_v a_o work_n yet_o be_v it_o not_o according_a to_o our_o principle_n require_v by_o the_o evangelical_n law_n as_o a_o work_n to_o justify_v we_o or_o as_o a_o work_n for_o which_o we_o be_v to_o be_v justify_v in_o the_o least_o degree_n but_o only_o as_o a_o mean_n or_o condition_n in_o the_o subject_a man_n to_o dispose_v and_o prepare_v he_o for_o justification_n by_o faith_n only_o in_o christ_n blood_n and_o righteousness_n and_o again_o though_o faith_n be_v a_o work_n in_o itself_o yet_o do_v not_o the_o evangelical_n law_n require_v it_o as_o a_o work_n to_o be_v a_o part_n of_o that_o righteousness_n by_o and_o for_o which_o we_o be_v justify_v but_o it_o require_v faith_n only_o as_o the_o instrumental_a mean_n or_o condition_n by_o which_o we_o receive_v and_o apply_v to_o ourselves_o and_o also_o trust_v to_o christ_n and_o his_o satisfactory_a meritorius_fw-la righteousness_n as_o that_o by_o and_o for_o which_o alone_o we_o be_v justify_v before_o god_n tribunal_n let_v mr._n g._n try_v when_o he_o will_v he_o shall_v find_v it_o impossible_a to_o prove_v from_o my_o principle_n as_o i_o have_v here_o true_o and_o sincere_o set_v they_o down_o that_o the_o gospel_n will_v be_v another_o law_n of_o work_n and_o that_o we_o will_v be_v justify_v by_o work_n if_o the_o gospel_n require_v faith_n and_o repentance_n as_o aforesaid_a i_o may_v with_o more_o appearance_n of_o reason_n prove_v from_o my_o r._n b._n principle_n that_o if_o faith_n be_v require_v only_o by_o the_o natural_a moral_a law_n and_o if_o we_o be_v justify_v by_o faith_n as_o we_o certain_o be_v and_o if_o faith_n be_v a_o work_n as_o in_o its_o own_o nature_n it_o certain_o be_v then_o we_o be_v justify_v by_o a_o work_n of_o the_o natural_a moral_a law_n and_o so_o be_v in_o tantum_fw-la justify_v by_o the_o law_n of_o work_n and_o look_v how_o he_o can_v answer_v this_o argument_n draw_v from_o his_o principle_n with_o as_o much_o facility_n if_o not_o more_o shall_v i_o answer_v his_o sophism_n draw_v from_o my_o principle_n that_o the_o gospel_n be_v a_o law_n of_o grace_n i_o need_v say_v no_o more_o to_o answer_v all_o he_o bring_v in_o his_o second_o chapter_n but_o to_o declare_v that_o as_o he_o say_v pag._n 12._o that_o all_o but_o papist_n socinian_o and_o arminian_o harmonious_o agree_v in_o explain_v such_o place_n as_o call_v the_o gospel_n a_o law_n after_o such_o a_o manner_n as_o may_v not_o give_v the_o least_o colour_n to_o the_o opinion_n of_o the_o gospel_n be_v a_o law_n in_o the_o sense_n of_o the_o three_o mention_a party_n so_o i_o do_v entire_o agree_v with_o they_o in_o that_o manner_n of_o explain_v they_o and_o do_v with_o they_o utter_o reject_v the_o popish_a socinian_n and_o arminian_n sense_n of_o the_o gospel_n be_v a_o new_a law_n but_o than_o it_o follow_v not_o that_o the_o gospel_n be_v no_o new_a law_n in_o any_o sense_n because_o it_o be_v not_o one_o in_o the_o popish_a socinian_n and_o arminian_n sense_n our_o author_n in_o pag._n 10._o say_v the_o gospel_n be_v call_v a_o law_n but_o no_o otherwise_o than_o as_o it_o be_v a_o comfortable_a instruction_n to_o poor_a convince_a sinner_n what_o riches_n of_o mercy_n there_o be_v in_o store_n and_o as_o it_o teach_v they_o how_o they_o may_v trust_v and_o hope_n in_o the_o god_n of_o all_o grace_n but_o this_o be_v not_o true_a in_o his_o exclusive_a sense_n for_o beside_o that_o it_o be_v a_o law_n as_o it_o teach_v how_o such_o sinner_n shall_v ex_fw-la officio_fw-la in_o point_n of_o duty_n trustand_v hope_n in_o the_o god_n of_o all_o grace_n through_o jesus_n christ_n in_o fine_a though_o in_o pag._n 14._o he_o mince_o say_v that_o the_o word_n judge_n in_o micah_n 4.3_o may_v very_o well_o import_v no_o more_o than_o that_o christ_n will_v judge_v what_o course_n of_o salvation_n be_v best_a for_o we_o to_o take_v that_o he_o will_v determine_v the_o case_n and_o it_o be_v judgement_n and_o determination_n and_o to_o take_v that_o course_n for_o salvation_n which_o he_o have_v judge_v best_a for_o we_o to_o take_v so_o that_o let_v mr._n g._n shuffle_n never_o so_o much_o he_o will_v never_o be_v able_a to_o avoid_v his_o be_v oblige_v by_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o gospel_n immediate_o to_o believe_v in_o christ_n matth._n 17.5_o and_o to_o take_v that_o
