it_o now_o to_o the_o other_o chap._n xxix_o of_o consent_n of_o antiquity_n our_o second_o rule_n of_o trial_n be_v consent_v of_o antiquity_n we_o say_v the_o romanist_n can_v prove_v their_o their_o judgement_n of_o the_o father_n and_o their_o authority_n therefore_o the_o romanist_n make_v advantage_n of_o it_o with_o their_o own_o proselyte_n as_o if_o the_o protestant_n decline_v all_o trial_n that_o way_n now_o shall_v we_o speak_v with_o that_o liberty_n of_o the_o father_n writing_n as_o they_o do_v of_o the_o scripture_n load_v it_o with_o imputation_n of_o obscurity_n imperfection_n corruption_n etc._n etc._n it_o may_v i_o hope_v be_v so_o much_o more_o justifiable_a in_o we_o as_o the_o divine_a authority_n of_o scripture_n surpass_v all_o humane_a writing_n but_o this_o we_o profess_v however_o they_o be_v oblige_v to_o disparage_v the_o write_a word_n of_o god_n and_o a_o miserable_a cause_n it_o must_v be_v which_o oblige_v man_n to_o such_o a_o plea_n yet_o be_v not_o we_o oblige_v to_o detract_v any_o thing_n from_o the_o due_a worth_n of_o the_o ancient_a father_n for_o take_v their_o write_n as_o they_o be_v we_o aver_v that_o the_o popish_a faith_n can_v prove_v itself_o to_o be_v catholic_n by_o they_o yet_o if_o we_o say_v the_o father_n be_v man_n and_o subject_a to_o error_n which_o the_o scripture_n be_v not_o we_o do_v but_o say_v what_o they_o oft_o acknowledge_v themselves_o if_o we_o say_v they_o have_v err_v in_o several_a age_n and_o that_o many_o of_o they_o together_o with_o a_o general_a consent_n as_o in_o the_o millenary_a belief_n the_o infant_n communion_n and_o the_o place_n of_o faithful_a soul_n out_o of_o heaven_n till_o the_o day_n of_o judgement_n we_o do_v but_o say_v what_o the_o romanist_n can_v deny_v who_o do_v acknowledge_v the_o father_n err_v in_o these_o if_o therefore_o we_o say_v they_o be_v no_o rule_n of_o faith_n to_o we_o we_o do_v but_o say_v what_o they_o of_o the_o age_n patch_v false_a and_o supposititious_a writing_n to_o they_o the_o romanist_n can_v but_o acknowledge_v we_o have_v great_a cause_n to_o think_v there_o be_v more_o providence_n of_o god_n in_o the_o preserve_n of_o scripture_n entire_a than_o the_o write_n of_o the_o father_n only_o here_o be_v the_o mischief_n again_o they_o be_v oblige_v to_o speak_v any_o casualty_n that_o happen_v to_o scripture_n and_o to_o make_v a_o noise_n of_o corruption_n obscurity_n etc._n etc._n because_o they_o find_v it_o too_o plain_a against_o they_o and_o be_v afraid_a the_o people_n shall_v see_v it_o too_o but_o of_o the_o father_n writing_n more_o rare_o do_v they_o acknowledge_v any_o such_o thing_n not_o because_o they_o have_v cause_n to_o joy_n of_o they_o as_o plain_a and_o full_a for_o the_o romish_a faith_n but_o because_o their_o advantage_n be_v by_o their_o forge_a writing_n and_o the_o corruption_n of_o the_o true_a one_o also_o because_o those_o writing_n come_v through_o the_o cunning_a of_o monk_n that_o have_v those_o write_n in_o manuscript_n what_o by_o their_o several_a edition_n of_o the_o father_n what_o by_o their_o expurgatory_n index_n in_o all_o which_o it_o be_v easy_a to_o see_v what_o labour_v there_o have_v be_v to_o make_v the_o ancient_n speak_v the_o language_n of_o their_o present_a church_n hence_o have_v they_o advantage_n not_o true_o by_o the_o write_n of_o the_o ancient_n but_o such_o as_o serve_v to_o their_o purpose_n especial_o when_o to_o deal_v with_o those_o that_o be_v less_o learned_a who_o they_o can_v turn_v to_o this_o or_o that_o place_n in_o such_o or_o such_o a_o father_n know_v they_o be_v not_o able_a to_o judge_v whether_o the_o writing_n be_v supposititious_a or_o the_o place_n corrupt_v or_o whether_o the_o same_o father_n elsewhere_o express_v himself_o otherwise_o or_o be_v contradict_v by_o other_o father_n and_o there_o speak_v only_o his_o private_a opinion_n this_o caution_n vincentius_n give_v
