which_o be_v think_v substance_n must_v be_v impressible_a only_o by_o thought_n and_o hence_o we_o find_v by_o experience_n that_o there_o be_v no_o object_n we_o converse_v with_o can_v any_o otherwise_o affect_v our_o mind_n than_o by_o suggest_v such_o thought_n and_o cogitation_n to_o it_o and_o that_o all_o the_o pleasure_n and_o torment_v of_o our_o mind_n consist_v in_o joyful_a and_o torment_a thought_n which_o be_v plain_a argument_n that_o our_o mind_n be_v a_o sort_n of_o be_v which_o nothing_o but_o thought_n can_v strike_v or_o touch_v and_o which_o have_v no_o sense_n or_o feel_n of_o any_o thing_n but_o only_o of_o dreadful_a or_o hopeful_a pleasant_a or_o painful_a cogitation_n and_o if_o this_o be_v so_o than_o the_o way_n of_o the_o holy_a spirit_n work_v upon_o our_o mind_n suppose_v that_o he_o work_v suitable_o to_o their_o nature_n must_v be_v by_o inspire_v or_o impress_v they_o with_o thought_n for_o as_o he_o be_v a_o infinite_a spirit_n he_o be_v always_o and_o every_o where_o present_a with_o our_o spirit_n and_o have_v a_o immediate_a access_n to_o they_o by_o virtue_n of_o which_o he_o can_v speak_v to_o our_o mind_n whenever_o and_o whatever_o he_o please_v and_o also_o urge_v what_o he_o speak_v with_o that_o life_n and_o power_n as_o to_o excite_v our_o most_o serious_a consideration_n and_o attention_n and_o by_o this_o it_o be_v that_o he_o ordinary_o work_v upon_o we_o in_o order_n to_o the_o reduce_v we_o to_o god_n viz._n by_o inspire_v such_o good_a thought_n into_o our_o mind_n as_o be_v most_o apt_a to_o move_v and_o persuade_v we_o to_o believe_v and_o obey_v the_o gospel_n and_o by_o a_o continue_a repetition_n of_o they_o urge_v and_o press_v they_o upon_o we_o in_o order_n to_o the_o reduce_v our_o vain_a and_o rove_a mind_n to_o a_o fix_a and_o serious_a attention_n to_o they_o for_o it_o be_v very_o apparent_a that_o our_o faith_n and_o all_o our_o good_a resolution_n be_v the_o immediate_a effect_n of_o deep_a and_o serious_a consideration_n i_o consider_v my_o way_n say_v david_n and_o turn_v my_o foot_n unto_o thy_o testimony_n so_o that_o in_o reduce_v we_o to_o god_n the_o great_a work_n of_o the_o spirit_n be_v to_o reduce_v we_o to_o a_o fix_a and_o steady_a consideration_n which_o be_v once_o effect_v there_o natural_o follow_v a_o good_a resolution_n unless_o the_o will_v be_v invincible_o obstinate_a and_o to_o this_o as_o natural_o succeed_v the_o actual_a return_n of_o the_o soul_n to_o god._n now_o to_o reduce_v we_o to_o this_o fix_a consideration_n the_o holy_a ghost_n in_o the_o first_o place_n suggest_v good_a thought_n to_o our_o mind_n and_o then_o to_o keep_v our_o mind_n fix_v and_o intent_n on_o they_o that_o so_o our_o worldly_a care_n or_o pleasure_n may_v not_o divert_v we_o from_o they_o he_o most_o importunate_o urge_v and_o repeat_v the_o same_o thought_n or_o second_v they_o with_o a_o train_n and_o succession_n of_o new_a one_o to_o the_o same_o purpose_n so_o that_o unless_o we_o be_v incorrigible_o obstinate_a against_o all_o good_a motion_n we_o can_v avoid_v admit_v they_o into_o our_o most_o serious_a consideration_n and_o when_o they_o be_v there_o they_o can_v fail_v of_o raise_v in_o we_o good_a desire_n and_o affection_n which_o if_o we_o careful_o cherish_v will_n soon_o determine_v in_o holy_a purpose_n and_o resolution_n in_o all_o which_o thing_n you_o see_v it_o be_v only_o by_o impression_n of_o thought_n that_o the_o holy_a spirit_n operate_v on_o our_o mind_n but_o this_o will_v more_o plain_o appear_v by_o consider_v those_o particular_a operation_n on_o our_o mind_n which_o the_o scripture_n attribute_n to_o the_o holy_a ghost_n all_o which_o may_v be_v rank_v under_o these_o five_o our_o faith_n can_v be_v sufficient_a to_o discharge_v we_o from_o its_o penalty_n unless_o it_o be_v such_o as_o include_v in_o it_o repentance_n and_o sincere_a obedience_n in_o short_a the_o law_n of_o grace_n condemn_v we_o as_o well_o for_o impiety_n injustice_n and_o uncharitableness_n as_o for_o infidelity_n and_o therefore_o we_o can_v be_v acquit_v by_o it_o upon_o forsake_v our_o infidelity_n unless_o we_o also_o forsake_v our_o impiety_n etc._n etc._n and_o while_o we_o continue_v in_o any_o one_o wilful_a sin_n for_o which_o it_o condemn_v it_o be_v impossible_a that_o at_o the_o same_o time_n we_o shall_v be_v acquit_v and_o pardon_v by_o it_o so_o that_o unless_o our_o faith_n be_v such_o as_o do_v include_v in_o it_o a_o renuntiation_n of_o all_o wilful_a sin_n or_o consequent_o it_o be_v he_o to_o who_o our_o obligation_n to_o punishment_n be_v due_a and_o by_o who_o alone_o it_o can_v be_v release_v and_o remit_v and_o as_o the_o grant_n of_o remission_n be_v whole_o in_o his_o will_n and_o pleasure_n so_o be_v it_o also_o to_o accept_v the_o consideration_n and_o appoint_v the_o condition_n of_o it_o so_o that_o now_o as_o none_o can_v be_v pardon_v but_o upon_o his_o grant_n so_o neither_o can_v his_o grant_n be_v available_a to_o any_o but_o upon_o that_o consideration_n which_o he_o have_v accept_v viz._n the_o precious_a sacrifice_n of_o his_o own_o son_n and_o upon_o such_o condition_n as_o he_o have_v appoint_v viz._n faith_n work_v in_o we_o sincere_a repentance_n and_o obedience_n and_o according_o our_o saviour_n in_o all_o that_o he_o and_o condition_n of_o this_o grant_n that_o he_o forgive_v we_o nor_o can_v he_o forgive_v any_o by_o any_o other_o right_o than_o that_o which_o it_o give_v he_o or_o upon_o any_o other_o consideration_n than_o that_o which_o it_o have_v admit_v or_o upon_o any_o other_o condition_n than_o that_o which_o it_o have_v specify_v and_o determine_v and_o this_o bring_v i_o to_o the_o
