as_o to_o humble_v we_o while_o we_o live_v under_o the_o daily_a sense_n of_o the_o imperfection_n of_o our_o service_n so_o to_o warn_v we_o to_o shroud_v they_o and_o ourselves_o under_o christ_n election_n but_o probable_o we_o may_v and_o very_o strong_o of_o some_o as_o we_o may_v be_v sure_a in_o every_o true_a visible_a church_n there_o be_v some_o elect_n also_o we_o may_v know_v particular_a person_n 3._o as_o john_n the_o elect_a lady_n and_o paul_n clement_n with_o other_o but_o for_o certainty_n we_o can_v as_o we_o know_v our_o own_o by_o the_o witness_n of_o god_n spirit_n to_o we_o and_o by_o the_o assurance_n of_o faith_n therefore_o they_o be_v proud_o conceit_v that_o think_v they_o have_v so_o much_o discern_v as_o if_o they_o be_v in_o a_o man_n company_n a_o few_o hour_n they_o can_v judge_v whether_o he_o be_v the_o child_n of_o god_n or_o not_o fie_o upon_o this_o arrogancy_n the_o disciple_n can_v not_o do_v so_o by_o live_v with_o judas_n a_o liable_a to_o do_v he_o hurt_v as_o cain_n say_v murmure_o 14._o thou_o have_v cast_v i_o from_o thy_o face_n and_o every_o one_o that_o find_v i_o shall_v slay_v i_o note_v indeed_o true_o that_o he_o lie_v open_a to_o a_o thousand_o peril_n that_o be_v not_o keep_v by_o god_n so_o be_v it_o for_o spiritual_a danger_n he_o that_o be_v not_o keep_v by_o god_n may_v fall_v into_o any_o sin_n irrecoverable_o and_o perish_v eternal_o this_o then_o confound_v that_o hellish_a doctrine_n of_o rome_n 2._o that_o the_o elect_a and_o sanctify_a may_v final_o fall_v from_o grace_n which_o be_v contrary_a to_o the_o whole_a scripture_n through_o faith_n god_n keep_v we_o faith_n but_o by_o no_o miracle_n or_o extraordinary_a way_n but_o by_o faith_n not_o without_o we_o but_o by_o work_v and_o increase_v the_o grace_n of_o faith_n and_o true_a beleif_n in_o we_o some_o will_v understand_v it_o through_o hope_n because_o hereby_o we_o wait_v for_o salvation_n and_o indeed_o there_o be_v great_a affinity_n between_o faith_n and_o hope_n so_o that_o in_o scripture_n they_o be_v sometime_o put_v one_o for_o another_o by_o faith_n we_o believe_v the_o goodness_n of_o god_n towards_o we_o by_o hope_n we_o wait_v till_o we_o find_v and_o feel_v he_o so_o to_o we_o by_o faith_n we_o believe_v eternal_a life_n by_o hope_n we_o patient_o wait_v for_o it_o and_o as_o there_o can_v be_v no_o hope_n if_o there_o be_v not_o faith_n before_o so_o hope_n do_v great_o help_v faith_n it_o keep_v it_o that_o it_o make_v not_o too_o much_o haste_n nor_o break_v off_o in_o the_o mid_a way_n for_o god_n oftentimes_o after_o his_o promise_n defer_v to_o perform_v they_o so_o that_o the_o wicked_a also_o come_v to_o say_v 4._o where_o be_v the_o promise_n of_o his_o come_n yea_o ever_o he_o come_v he_o hide_v his_o face_n and_o seem_v as_o if_o he_o will_v not_o fulfil_v the_o same_o now_o therefore_o here_o do_v hope_v her_o office_n and_o step_n in_o and_o sustain_v faith_n very_o well_o so_o that_o a_o christian_n must_v necessary_o have_v both_o to_o go_v along_o with_o he_o but_o i_o see_v no_o reason_n to_o alter_v the_o apostle_n word_n but_o to_o take_v faith_n proper_o for_o the_o grace_n of_o true_a faith_n and_o believe_v though_o this_o be_v true_a that_o hope_n help_v well_o on_o but_o he_o speak_v of_o faith_n which_o include_v hope_n as_o a_o necessary_a companion_n but_o how_o do_v faith_n bring_v we_o to_o salvation_n salvation_n it_o be_v say_v by_o the_o apostle_n paul_n by_o grace_n you_o be_v save_v through_o faith_n now_o as_o it_o first_o apprehend_v christ_n and_o salvation_n 8._o so_o it_o hold_v this_o hold_n and_o continue_v our_o comfort_n and_o still_o carry_v we_o on_o in_o the_o service_n of_o god_n and_o a_o holy_a life_n this_o assurance_n of_o eternal_a life_n make_v we_o contemn_v profit_n offer_v to_o pull_v we_o from_o a_o good_a conscience_n 24._o as_o moses_n do_v pharaoh_n court_n and_o pleasure_n of_o egypt_n so_o to_o despise_v the_o cross_n and_o overcome_v trouble_n that_o will_v draw_v we_o therefrom_o as_o the_o holy_a martyr_n do_v from_o time_n to_o time_n also_o faith_n apprehend_v the_o promise_n of_o god_n for_o our_o uphold_v to_o the_o end_n rest_v upon_o the_o goodness_n of_o god_n which_o be_v constant_a and_o his_o power_n which_o be_v infinite_a therefore_o when_o any_o shall_v persuade_v we_o we_o shall_v never_o hold_v out_o we_o shall_v be_v forsake_v faith_n then_o put_v up_o head_n and_o say_v nay_o to_o it_o because_o god_n have_v promise_v to_o keep_v we_o unto_o salvation_n the_o wicked_a come_v and_o say_v where_o be_v now_o thy_o god_n by_o reason_n of_o trouble_n which_o befall_v the_o godly_a so_o the_o devil_n and_o their_o own_o unbelief_n assault_v they_o 11._o now_o faith_n help_v and_o say_v why_o be_v thou_o cast_v down_o why_o be_v thou_o disquiet_v trust_v yet_o in_o god_n he_o be_v my_o present_a help_n and_o my_o god_n and_o 4._o though_o i_o walk_v in_o the_o valley_n of_o the_o shadow_n of_o death_n i_o will_v fear_v no_o ill_a and_o the_o name_n of_o the_o lord_n be_v a_o strong_a tower_n 10._o the_o righteous_a run_v to_o it_o and_o be_v safe_a 4._o this_o be_v the_o victory_n that_o overcome_v the_o world_n call_v therefore_o the_o shield_n 16._o by_o which_o we_o quench_v the_o fiery_a dart_n of_o the_o devil_n for_o this_o purpose_n our_o saviour_n when_o he_o pray_v that_o peter_n may_v hold_v out_o pray_v that_o his_o faith_n may_v not_o fail_v 32._o if_o that_o fail_v we_o be_v go_v if_o it_o hold_v we_o shall_v be_v too_o hard_a for_o all_o the_o world_n so_o long_o as_o our_o faith_n hold_v all_o the_o world_n with_o all_o the_o engine_n it_o have_v to_o destroy_v we_o can_v never_o overturn_v we_o contrary_o without_o faith_n we_o can_v neither_o begin_v nor_o stand_v against_o any_o temptation_n or_o danger_n this_o teach_v man_n to_o labour_n for_o this_o true_a faith_n 1_o without_o it_o they_o may_v fall_v to_o any_o thing_n as_o the_o second_o and_o three_o sort_n of_o ground_n mention_v by_o our_o saviour_n in_o the_o parable_n most_o people_n content_v themselves_o in_o be_v professor_n but_o labour_v not_o for_o this_o grace_n of_o faith_n and_o therefore_o do_v they_o fall_v away_o and_o never_o come_v to_o salvation_n it_o teach_v also_o the_o godly_a 2._o still_o to_o say_v with_o the_o apostle_n lord_n increase_v our_o faith_n 5._o use_v all_o other_o mean_n to_o that_o purpose_n a_o little_a faith_n will_v go_v but_o a_o little_a way_n the_o least_o if_o true_a shall_v get_v to_o heaven_n but_o with_o much_o ado_n as_o a_o poor_a totter_a vessel_n may_v get_v to_o shore_n especial_o if_o there_o come_v no_o storm_n simile_n but_o if_o there_o do_v it_o be_v in_o great_a danger_n and_o very_o hardly_o attain_v unto_o it_o but_o as_o a_o strong_a vessel_n come_v safe_o though_o it_o have_v strong_a tempest_n so_o a_o strong_a faith_n though_o it_o be_v strong_o assault_v and_o put_v to_o it_o as_o oft_o it_o be_v both_o in_o life_n and_o in_o the_o end_n of_o life_n yet_o it_o conquer_v we_o have_v have_v none_o but_o calm_a time_n hitherto_o but_o what_o we_o may_v have_v we_o know_v not_o whether_o common_a trial_n or_o particular_a one_o accompany_v with_o pain_n grief_n vexation_n etc._n etc._n labour_n therefore_o for_o good_a store_n of_o faith_n unto_o salvation_n keep_v not_o for_o a_o while_n 6._o but_o to_o the_o come_n of_o christ_n to_o the_o enjoy_n of_o salvation_n and_o not_o as_o moses_n who_o have_v only_o a_o sight_n of_o canaan_n he_o keep_v we_o by_o his_o power_n prosperity_n whereto_o not_o that_o our_o finger_n shall_v not_o ache_v in_o this_o world_n but_o have_v all_o peace_n and_o prosperity_n and_o every_o body_n good_a will_n no_o but_o to_o salvation_n in_o the_o end_n of_o our_o life_n for_o here_o we_o must_v suffer_v with_o he_o 17._o if_o hereafter_o
shall_v stand_v tremble_v and_o be_v cast_v into_o the_o lake_n which_o burn_v with_o fire_n and_o brinstone_n 8._o yea_o though_o our_o faith_n be_v try_v by_o affliction_n and_o persecution_n yet_o we_o shall_v rejoice_v for_o they_o will_v turn_v to_o our_o glory_n our_o shame_n reproach_n infamy_n imprisonment_n and_o trouble_n will_v turn_v to_o our_o praise_n and_o honour_n and_o glory_n at_o that_o day_n when_o we_o be_v revile_v by_o private_a person_n when_o persecute_v by_o public_a magistrate_n and_o false_a witness_n come_v against_o we_o yet_o we_o shall_v not_o be_v trouble_v 12._o but_o rejoice_v for_o great_a shall_v our_o reward_n be_v in_o heaven_n our_o poverty_n shall_v be_v recompense_v with_o great_a riches_n our_o shame_n with_o honour_n 28._o and_o if_o we_o be_v reject_v of_o man_n we_o shall_v be_v take_v in_o of_o god_n yet_o do_v not_o our_o affliction_n or_o persecution_n deserve_v any_o of_o this_o honour_n as_o the_o papist_n will_v gather_v from_o hence_o and_o from_o 2_o thess._n 1._o 5_o etc._n etc._n 18._o alas_o no_o for_o the_o affliction_n of_o this_o present_a time_n be_v not_o worthy_a to_o be_v compare_v with_o the_o glory_n that_o be_v become_v our_o debtor_n not_o by_o take_v any_o thing_n of_o we_o but_o by_o promise_v we_o all_o thing_n we_o shall_v therefore_o be_v comfort_v in_o all_o our_o suffering_n and_o oppose_v unto_o the_o ignominy_n thereof_o the_o glory_n and_o honour_n we_o shall_v then_o have_v which_o be_v infinite_o great_a o_o who_o will_v not_o endure_v cast_v out_o by_o man_n be_v a_o token_n manifest_a to_o all_o we_o must_v be_v content_a to_o wait_v for_o our_o full_a redemption_n till_o then_o world_n on_o that_o most_o solemn_a day_n shall_v we_o be_v honour_v by_o the_o lord_n impossible_a for_o he_o fill_v all_o place_n and_o whether_o can_v he_o go_v that_o have_v this_o revenge_a judge_n over_o his_o head_n hell_n under_o his_o foot_n to_o swallow_v he_o on_o each_o side_n angel_n and_o devil_n to_o torment_v he_o within_o a_o torment_a conscience_n and_o without_o all_o the_o world_n on_o fire_n and_o to_o abide_v his_o wrath_n its_o intolerable_a 7._o for_o if_o when_o it_o be_v but_o a_o little_a kindle_v no_o man_n can_v stand_v then_o how_o when_o its_o all_o on_o fire_n to_o consume_v his_o enemy_n utter_o 6._o kiss_v therefore_o the_o sun_n seek_v to_o be_v reconcile_v get_v he_o thy_o saviour_n and_o thy_o king_n get_v pardon_n of_o that_o which_o be_v past_a not_o add_v more_o to_o the_o score_n against_o thyself_o one_o thing_n more_o the_o phrase_n here_o use_v seem_v to_o imply_v that_o the_o reward_n of_o god_n servant_n shall_v not_o be_v privy_a reward_v but_o see_v and_o know_v yea_o and_o that_o of_o those_o that_o have_v most_o hate_v disgrace_v and_o persecute_v they_o account_v they_o mad_a and_o esteem_v base_o of_o they_o even_o before_o they_o i_o say_v they_o shall_v be_v honour_v of_o god_n as_o it_o will_v be_v a_o torment_n to_o the_o wicked_a to_o see_v christ_n who_o they_o have_v pierce_v to_o be_v in_o such_o high_a dignity_n and_o power_n so_o will_v it_o increase_v their_o torment_n to_o see_v they_o who_o they_o so_o base_o esteem_v of_o as_o not_o worthy_a to_o live_v to_o be_v receive_v into_o honour_n and_o stand_v on_o christ_n right_a hand_n and_o themselves_o of_o who_o they_o be_v so_o well_o conceit_v cast_v out_o but_o its_o just_a with_o god_n that_o they_o which_o willing_o and_o of_o purpose_n have_v vex_v and_o disgrace_v his_o servant_n here_o on_o earth_n shall_v against_o their_o will_n see_v the_o glory_n that_o he_o have_v prepare_v for_o they_o verse_n 8._o who_o have_v not_o see_v you_o love_v in_o who_o though_o now_o you_o see_v he_o not_o yet_o believe_v you_o rejoice_v with_o joy_n unspeakable_a and_o full_a of_o glory_n here_o he_o proceed_v to_o commend_v these_o believe_a jew_n yet_o withal_o admonish_v and_o exhort_v they_o and_o that_o for_o the_o great_a measure_n of_o their_o faith_n and_o the_o fruit_n thereof_o love_n and_o joy_n which_o be_v describe_v by_o that_o which_o may_v have_v hinder_v their_o faith_n namely_o that_o they_o never_o see_v christ_n and_o yet_o believe_v in_o he_o and_o rest_v on_o he_o for_o salvation_n and_o so_o love_v he_o as_o they_o be_v well_o content_a to_o suffer_v for_o his_o name_n yea_o and_o rejoice_v with_o such_o a_o joy_n as_o for_o the_o excellency_n and_o greatness_n thereof_o can_v not_o be_v express_v in_o that_o he_o commend_v they_o it_o be_v to_o this_o end_n that_o he_o may_v encourage_v and_o provoke_v they_o to_o go_v on_o forward_o and_o increase_v more_o and_o more_o to_o this_o end_n do_v the_o lord_n commend_v the_o good_a church_n in_o the_o second_o and_o three_o of_o the_o revelation_n and_o s._n paul_n in_o all_o his_o epistle_n 10._o even_o that_o he_o may_v provoke_v they_o to_o go_v on_o in_o well_o do_v people_n and_o this_o must_v be_v the_o end_n of_o all_o good_a minister_n in_o the_o commendation_n of_o their_o people_n not_o of_o flattery_n that_o be_v abominable_a and_o be_v men-pleasers_a they_o can_v not_o be_v christ_n servant_n nor_o out_o of_o a_o conceit_n that_o they_o have_v go_v far_o enough_o and_o now_o may_v stand_v at_o a_o stay_n that_o be_v senseless_a 10._o for_o that_o we_o have_v be_v nothing_o to_o that_o we_o may_v have_v have_v or_o shall_v have_v and_o want_v but_o to_o be_v a_o spur_n to_o provoke_v they_o to_o go_v on_o forward_o it_o be_v a_o shame_n for_o they_o not_o to_o satisfy_v the_o expectation_n of_o such_o as_o have_v a_o good_a opinion_n of_o they_o and_o so_o must_v the_o people_n take_v such_o at_o any_o time_n not_o be_v lift_v up_o therewith_o but_o rather_o humble_v thereby_o conceive_v that_o the_o minister_n rather_o show_v what_o he_o will_v be_v in_o they_o or_o shall_v be_v in_o they_o than_o what_o be_v indeed_o in_o they_o and_o that_o he_o will_v not_o have_v they_o stand_v at_o a_o stay_n but_o proceed_v and_o go_v on_o more_o and_o more_o speak_v we_o particular_o first_o of_o their_o faith_n though_o last_o set_v down_o as_o without_o which_o there_o can_v be_v no_o true_a love_n they_o never_o see_v christ_n yet_o they_o believe_v in_o he_o they_o see_v the_o scripture_n speak_v of_o he_o to_o come_v they_o hear_v of_o he_o also_o by_o faithful_a witness_n the_o apostle_n have_v preach_v of_o his_o person_n birth_n life_n death_n resurrection_n and_o ascension_n and_o that_o he_o come_v to_o save_v they_o that_o be_v lose_v this_o they_o believe_v and_o so_o believe_v in_o he_o for_o salvation_n though_o they_o see_v he_o not_o this_o show_v the_o nature_n of_o true_a faith_n reason_n namely_o to_o believe_v thing_n not_o only_o that_o we_o see_v
of_o this_o we_o shall_v have_v occasion_n to_o speak_v in_o the_o end_n of_o the_o verse_n we_o allow_v a_o man_n to_o kill_v a_o worm_n or_o fly_v at_o his_o pleasure_n why_o may_v not_o the_o lord_n do_v so_o by_o man_n who_o be_v much_o less_o to_o he_o than_o a_o worm_n to_o a_o man_n god_n ordain_v to_o pass_v by_o some_o man_n but_o condemn_v none_o but_o for_o his_o willing_a sin_n 6._o again_o that_o we_o be_v the_o child_n of_o wrath_n whole_o sell_v under_o sin_n slave_n of_o satan_n have_v no_o good_a thing_n but_o altogether_o fill_v with_o all_o evil_a have_v no_o right_n to_o a_o bit_n of_o bread_n that_o the_o child_n in_o the_o cradle_n be_v the_o enemy_n of_o god_n and_o have_v deserve_v hell_n this_o man_n proud_a nature_n can_v brook_v but_o it_o be_v too_o true_a the_o who_o scripture_n tell_v it_o and_o we_o shall_v find_v it_o and_o we_o be_v worthy_a to_o be_v in_o this_o case_n that_o be_v so_o happy_a in_o our_o creation_n and_o can_v not_o hold_v it_o and_o now_o we_o may_v willing_o acknowledge_v we_o be_v thus_o vile_a which_o will_v be_v the_o better_a for_o we_o see_v all_o that_o be_v want_v in_o we_o be_v to_o be_v have_v in_o christ_n we_o must_v swallow_v this_o pill_n that_o we_o may_v have_v such_o a_o piece_n of_o sugar_n follow_v it_o 7._o again_o that_o we_o must_v renounce_v all_o our_o sin_n and_o be_v crucify_v to_o the_o world_n and_o take_v so_o strait_a a_o course_n this_o carnal_a people_n count_v bondage_n which_o be_v indeed_o true_a liberty_n and_o that_o which_o they_o be_v in_o as_o sweet_a as_o it_o be_v be_v most_o slavish_a bondage_n to_o satan_n they_o think_v they_o may_v not_o so_o much_o as_o laugh_v and_o that_o this_o course_n tie_v they_o so_o short_a that_o they_o may_v do_v nothing_o but_o it_o tie_v we_o from_o nothing_o but_o evil_a and_o give_v we_o liberty_n enough_o in_o that_o use_n of_o god_n benefit_n so_o it_o be_v without_o sin_n 8._o again_o that_o they_o that_o will_v be_v religious_a and_o christ_n disciple_n must_v suffer_v persecution_n this_o they_o can_v away_o with_o even_o because_o they_o be_v whole_o carnal_a and_o savour_v of_o the_o flesh_n and_o be_v so_o give_v to_o their_o ease_n profit_n pleasure_n and_o honour_n of_o the_o world_n if_o they_o know_v what_o the_o end_n of_o suffer_v for_o well_o do_v be_v they_o will_v not_o be_v so_o addict_v to_o the_o world_n 11._o for_o our_o saviour_n himself_o affirm_v that_o such_o shall_v have_v a_o great_a reward_n in_o heaven_n 26._o hereat_o moses_n aim_v when_o he_o enter_v into_o this_o course_n this_o must_v we_o undergo_v by_o trouble_n we_o must_v go_v to_o heaven_n for_o they_o humble_v we_o make_v we_o pray_v more_o exercise_v our_o faith_n and_o patience_n weary_a we_o hence_o and_o make_v we_o shine_v bright_a drive_v we_o to_o god_n and_o that_o end_n will_v be_v happy_a 9_o some_o again_o take_v occasion_n from_o the_o scripture_n to_o be_v licentious_a as_o from_o the_o fall_v of_o god_n servant_n and_o that_o promise_v in_o ezekiel_n 27._o when_o the_o wicked_a man_n turn_v away_o from_o his_o wickedness_n etc._n etc._n and_o the_o example_n of_o the_o thief_n
