when_o the_o vindicator_n or_o any_o other_o man_n see_v cause_n to_o disbelieve_v somewhat_o in_o tully_n or_o plato_n he_o consider_v that_o though_o they_o be_v indeed_o great_a man_n yet_o be_v but_o man_n they_o be_v fallible_a it_o may_v ready_o happen_v that_o they_o oversee_v in_o some_o particular_a matter_n oversee_v what_o less_o able_a person_n may_v happen_v to_o discern_v but_o when_o reason_n can_v approve_v doctrine_n say_v by_o some_o to_o be_v contain_v in_o scripture_n as_o suppose_v three_o infinite_a spirit_n each_o of_o they_o a_o god_n and_o yet_o all_o of_o they_o but_o one_o god_n a_o honest_a man_n will_v easy_o find_v a_o great_a many_o expedient_n much_o better_a than_o the_o vindicator_n downright_a i_o will_v believe_v the_o scripture_n he_o will_v say_v for_o example_n let_v we_o examine_v very_o careful_o whether_o this_o contradictory_n impossible_a and_o heretical_a doctrine_n three_o infinite_a spirit_n each_o of_o they_o a_o perfect_a god_n all_o of_o they_o but_o one_o be_v indeed_o affirm_v any_o where_o in_o scripture_n it_o be_v not_o find_v there_o besure_n in_o express_a word_n it_o only_o seem_v to_o some_o few_o upstart_n to_o be_v imply_v in_o some_o passage_n of_o scripture_n therefore_o say_v the_o honest_a christian_a if_o those_o passage_n bid_v any_o thing_n fair_a towards_o such_o a_o doctrine_n it_o be_v better_a however_o to_o suppose_v it_o be_v more_o congruous_a to_o think_v that_o a_o inspire_a writer_n use_v a_o figurative_a or_o it_o may_v be_v a_o catachrestical_a expression_n or_o phrase_n than_o that_o he_o deliver_v flat_a contradiction_n or_o downright_a impossibility_n in_o short_a i_o say_v there_o be_v a_o honest_a medium_fw-la between_o dr._n sherlock_n impious_a i_o will_v believe_v the_o scripture_n and_o between_o believe_v what_o reason_n and_o philosophy_n do_v absolute_o reject_v it_o be_v this_o that_o we_o know_v the_o inspire_a writer_n do_v often_o speak_v figurative_o nay_o often_o catachrestical_o or_o improper_o all_o interpreter_n confess_v so_o much_o there_o be_v hardly_o a_o chapter_n in_o the_o bible_n where_o they_o do_v not_o observe_v it_o more_o than_o once_o and_o therefore_o mollify_v the_o word_n or_o phrase_n by_o a_o dexterous_a interpretation_n so_o that_o neither_o the_o vindicator_n after_o all_o his_o pretence_n to_o inspiration_n be_v to_o be_v hear_v when_o he_o cry_v i_o will_v believe_v the_o scripture_n nor_o yet_o the_o preacher_n when_o he_o cant_v to_o my_o lord_n mayor_n and_o the_o court_n of_o alderman_n that_o no_o objection_n of_o reason_n can_v be_v admit_v against_o the_o mere_a phrase_n and_o word_n of_o scripture_n a_o rule_n of_o interpret_n that_o will_v let_v in_o the_o transubstantiation_n and_o a_o hundred_o more_o absurd_a and_o heretical_a doctrine_n on_o the_o four_o he_o tell_v we_o next_o difficulty_n of_o conceive_v a_o thing_n nay_o the_o absolute_a unconceivableness_n of_o it_o must_v not_o hinder_v our_o assent_n to_o what_o be_v contain_v in_o revelation_n because_o we_o do_v not_o disbelieve_v what_o be_v make_v know_v to_o we_o by_o sense_n or_o by_o reason_n notwithstanding_o any_o difficulty_n or_o inconceivableness_n adhere_v to_o such_o thing_n and_o as_o to_o contradiction_n so_o often_o object_v in_o these_o case_n it_o be_v a_o easy_a matter_n to_o find_v contradiction_n in_o what_o we_o do_v not_o understand_v when_o we_o will_v be_v reason_v on_o what_o we_o do_v not_o understand_v there_o will_v be_v contradiction_n and_o impossibility_n innumerable_a in_o our_o guess_n about_o '_o they_o i_o sincere_o believe_v that_o god_n may_v reveal_v to_o we_o many_o thing_n impenetrable_a or_o unconceivable_a not_o only_o by_o the_o humane_a understanding_n but_o by_o the_o angelical_a but_o it_o be_v not_o true_a what_o our_o preacher_n here_o add_v by_o way_n of_o confirmation_n or_o proof_n namely_o that_o we_o believe_v what_o be_v make_v know_v to_o we_o by_o sense_n or_o by_o reason_n notwithstanding_o any_o difficulty_n or_o inconceivableness_n adhere_v to_o some_o such_o thing_n for_o sense_n tell_v i_o that_o the_o oar_n in_o the_o water_n be_v crooked_a that_o all_o distant_a body_n for_o colour_n be_v dark_a and_o for_o figure_n round_o it_o tell_v i_o also_o a_o great_a number_n of_o thing_n in_o my_o sleep_n it_o present_v i_o in_o dream_n with_o abundance_n of_o scene_n all_o which_o i_o disbelieve_v for_o certain_a difficulty_n or_o a_o inconceivableness_n in_o the_o thing_n in_o like_a manner_n i_o know_v but_o few_o man_n who_o believe_v reason_n when_o it_o be_v not_o clear_a but_o perplex_v with_o difficulty_n or_o darken_n doubt_n but_o especial_o when_o there_o be_v a_o remarkable_a and_o manifest_a inconceivableness_n in_o that_o case_n we_o do_v not_o use_v to_o call_v it_o reason_n but_o at_o best_a probability_n and_o opinion_n great_a difficulty_n and_o a_o too_o dark_a vnconceivableness_n be_v such_o a_o balance_n to_o whatsoever_o reason_n that_o they_o lose_v the_o name_n of_o reason_n and_o be_v detrude_v into_o the_o rank_n of_o likelihood_n and_o a_o very_a honourable_a rank_n it_o be_v for_o such_o kind_n of_o reason_n but_o he_o plain_o show_v what_o he_o will_v have_v and_o what_o his_o
