continue_v with_o they_o and_o teach_v the_o of_o god_n among_o they_o yet_o as_o he_o sometime_o vouchsafe_v a_o preacher_n to_o impudent_a and_o stifnecked_n child_n 2.4.5_o who_o will_v not_o hear_v to_o to_o that_o end_n that_o in_o the_o day_n of_o vengeance_n they_o may_v know_v there_o have_v be_v a_o prophet_n among_o they_o so_o also_o it_o please_v he_o by_o secret_a and_o hide_a yea_o and_o very_o unlikely_a course_n to_o afford_v unto_o some_o heart_n the_o blessing_n of_o inward_a conversion_n upon_o who_o he_o have_v not_o bestow_v the_o benefit_n of_o outward_a instruction_n by_o a_o preacher_n but_o what_o then_o yet_o this_o remain_v cercertaine_a that_o as_o when_o the_o good_a mean_n be_v want_v and_o can_v by_o any_o mean_n be_v procure_v the_o power_n case_n of_o the_o sacrament_n it_o be_v not_o simple_o the_o want_n of_o they_o when_o a_o man_n can_v though_o fain_o he_o will_v become_v partaker_n of_o they_o but_o the_o contempt_n which_o be_v both_o desire_n &_o require_v that_o one_o thing_n of_o the_o lord_n even_o to_o behold_v the_o beauty_n of_o the_o lord_n 4.4_o namely_o the_o light_n of_o the_o glorious_a gospel_n of_o christ_n which_o be_v the_o image_n of_o god_n three_o that_o he_o be_v careful_a to_o use_v all_o such_o help_n of_o read_v the_o scripture_n and_o of_o other_o godly_a treatise_n and_o of_o conference_n with_o man_n of_o knowledge_n as_o may_v possible_o be_v procure_v but_o if_o so_o be_v a_o man_n may_v by_o any_o mean_n enjoy_v the_o benefit_n and_o comfort_n of_o preach_v though_o it_o be_v with_o some_o both_o charge_n and_o travel_v if_o then_o he_o careless_o neglect_v it_o and_o trust_v to_o other_o mean_n no_o doubt_n the_o lord_n will_v curse_v those_o mean_n unto_o he_o which_o for_o all_o that_o in_o their_o own_o nature_n be_v good_a and_o may_v profit_v if_o they_o be_v not_o use_v with_o contempt_n of_o the_o principal_n this_o be_v my_o judgement_n touch_v this_o supposal_n that_o by_o press_v the_o worth_n of_o preach_v we_o do_v confine_v as_o it_o be_v god_n grace_n and_o â—e_v it_o to_o our_o tongue_n &_o do_v cut_v they_o short_a of_o all_o hope_n of_o salvation_n which_o by_o any_o occasion_n have_v live_v or_o do_v live_v without_o it_o nymp._n well_o sir_n this_o kind_n of_o man_n for_o all_o this_o be_v not_o satisfy_v but_o be_v beat_v by_o argument_n and_o scripture_n from_o one_o fond_a conceit_n they_o forthwith_o â—un_v to_o another_o and_o seek_v not_o so_o much_o how_o to_o make_v a_o direct_a reply_n as_o to_o heap_v up_o diversity_n of_o objection_n and_o therefore_o when_o they_o have_v say_v all_o they_o can_v for_o the_o press_n of_o those_o particular_n the_o vanity_n whereof_o you_o have_v lay_v open_a to_o the_o which_o every_o servant_n of_o god_n ought_v to_o entertain_v tell_v i_o now_o understand_v you_o this_o direction_n nymph_n yea_o true_o i_o do_v in_o some_o measure_n understand_v it_o yet_o if_o you_o shall_v please_v by_o one_o or_o two_o example_n to_o show_v the_o use_n of_o it_o i_o shall_v the_o better_o perceive_v it_o and_o know_v the_o rather_o how_o and_o after_o what_o sort_n to_o we_o only_o by_o faith_n 7._o other_o as_o the_o papist_n say_v that_o to_o the_o justify_n of_o a_o sinner_n before_o god_n two_o thing_n be_v require_v remission_n of_o sin_n and_o the_o habit_n of_o inward_a righteousness_n that_o be_v to_o say_v charity_n with_o the_o fruit_n thereof_o so_o that_o we_o exclude_v they_o establish_v the_o merit_n of_o man_n work_n well_o then_o in_o this_o difference_n of_o opinion_n there_o be_v learned_a man_n on_o both_o side_n and_o scripture_n allege_v on_o both_o side_n you_o desire_v to_o know_v which_o be_v the_o truth_n bring_v they_o both_o to_o the_o touchstone_n &_o see_v which_o of_o the_o two_o make_v most_o for_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n &_o the_o matter_n will_v soon_o be_v answer_v the_o doubt_n will_v quick_o be_v clear_v consider_v therefore_o how_o even_o the_o apostle_n paul_n by_o this_o rule_n decide_v this_o controversy_n â—_o by_o what_o law_n say_v he_o that_o be_v by_o what_o mean_v of_o salvation_n be_v boast_v exclude_v not_o by_o the_o law_n of_o work_n but_o by_o the_o law_n of_o faith_n hereupon_o he_o conclude_v therefore_o a_o man_n be_v justify_v by_o faith_n without_o the_o work_n of_o the_o law_n and_o indeed_o the_o reason_n be_v excellent_a for_o if_o man_n can_v by_o any_o of_o his_o own_o do_n further_o his_o own_o salvation_n or_o procure_v the_o increase_n of_o glory_n in_o heaven_n he_o have_v then_o some_o matter_n of_o glory_v and_o may_v as_o it_o be_v account_v himself_o the_o less_o beholden_a unto_o god_n but_o justification_n by_o faith_n only_o take_v all_o utter_o from_o man_n and_o ascribe_v his_o whole_a salvation_n the_o beginning_n middle_a and_o end_v unto_o the_o lord_n have_v you_o both_o a_o example_n of_o this_o rule_n and_o warrant_v for_o it_o be_v use_v by_o the_o apostle_n to_o decide_v so_o great_a a_o controversy_n and_o i_o be_o sure_a that_o you_o shall_v find_v it_o of_o very_o great_a use_n in_o many_o main_a point_n of_o our_o religion_n second_o for_o the_o second_o branch_n of_o the_o rule_n which_o be_v about_o the_o comfort_n and_o relief_n of_o a_o distress_a and_o distract_a conscience_n mark_v this_o particular_a for_o the_o manifestation_n of_o the_o force_n of_o the_o rule_n it_o be_v teach_v and_o maintain_v in_o our_o church_n that_o a_o christian_a man_n may_v be_v unfallible_o certain_a of_o his_o salvation_n in_o his_o own_o conscience_n in_o this_o life_n and_o that_o by_o a_o ordinary_a and_o special_a faith_n other_o there_o be_v both_o papist_n and_o some_o also_o among_o ourselves_o which_o hold_v that_o the_o certainty_n of_o salvation_n which_o in_o this_o life_n can_v be_v attain_v to_o be_v only_o conjectural_a and_o probable_a ground_v only_o upon_o likelihood_n and_o this_o certainty_n they_o confess_v to_o be_v uncertain_a and_o such_o as_o many_o time_n do_v deceive_v behold_v here_o be_v a_o great_a controversy_n and_o much_o be_v say_v on_o either_o side_n now_o you_o that_o be_v a_o private_a man_n will_v glad_o know_v to_o which_o part_n you_o may_v safe_o incline_v and_o what_o to_o rest_v upon_o as_o the_o alone_a truth_n in_o this_o case_n my_o advice_n be_v therefore_o that_o for_o your_o full_a satisfaction_n herein_o you_o scan_v the_o matter_n by_o this_o rule_n suppose_v a_o spirit_n deep_o wound_v a_o conscience_n set_v as_o it_o be_v upon_o the_o rack_n see_v nothing_o in_o god_n but_o justice_n and_o majesty_n and_o a_o consume_a fire_n find_v nothing_o in_o itself_o but_o sin_n and_o corruption_n and_o infinite_a matter_n of_o despair_n so_o that_o by_o this_o mean_v it_o be_v bring_v to_o such_o a_o exigent_n that_o it_o know_v not_o which_o way_n to_o turn_v but_o be_v even_o ready_a to_o cry_v out_o with_o paul_n 7.24_o who_o shall_v deliver_v i_o inquire_v now_o which_o of_o those_o two_o doctrine_n do_v afford_v the_o best_a comfort_n in_o this_o woeful_a case_n that_o will_v quick_o appear_v for_o the_o one_o hold_v the_o conscience_n in_o a_o continual_a suspense_n the_o other_o labour_v to_o settle_v it_o in_o the_o firm_a assurance_n of_o god_n unchangeable_a love_n in_o christ_n jesus_n the_o one_o bring_v a_o plaster_n but_o much_o too_o little_a for_o the_o sore_a tell_v of_o the_o riches_n of_o god_n mercy_n of_o the_o depth_n of_o his_o love_n of_o the_o unsearchable_a sufficiency_n of_o christ_n merit_n but_o yet_o deny_v the_o soul_n to_o be_v assure_v of_o a_o particular_a interest_n into_o it_o and_o by_o that_o mean_v rather_o increase_v than_o relieve_v the_o anguish_n the_o other_o apply_v the_o medicine_n to_o every_o part_n of_o the_o wound_n show_v christ_n discover_v the_o riches_n of_o christ_n and_o put_v the_o amaze_a heart_n into_o a_o full_a assure_v and_o comfortable_a possession_n of_o christ_n so_o that_o whatsoever_o shall_v be_v argue_v to_o the_o contrary_a you_o may_v be_v bold_a to_o build_v upon_o that_o which_o bring_v the_o most_o joyful_a and_o welcome_a tiding_n to_o a_o affright_a conscience_n that_o be_v best_o agree_v to_o the_o scope_n of_o the_o scripture_n that_o come_v near_a to_o the_o nature_n of_o the_o gospel_n come_v now_o to_o the_o three_o branch_n which_o be_v concern_v the_o liberty_n of_o the_o flesh_n and_o let_v i_o give_v a_o instance_n of_o that_o also_o there_o be_v at_o this_o day_n a_o doctrine_n almost_o
