author_n of_o this_o epistle_n give_v we_o a_o very_a clear_a account_n of_o the_o main_a head_n of_o the_o apostolic_a catechism_n in_o these_o five_o head_n faith_n in_o christ_n repentance_n from_o dead_a work_n doctrine_n of_o baptism_n lay_v on_o of_o hand_n and_o the_o resurrection_n of_o the_o dead_a heb._n 6.2_o which_o be_v clear_a scriptural_a and_o fundamental_a notion_n and_o timothy_n be_v catechize_v be_v say_v to_o have_v learn_v the_o scripture_n from_o his_o youth_n 2_o tim._n 3.15_o reas_n 3_o the_o three_o reason_n this_o be_v the_o matter_n of_o catechise_v in_o the_o primitive_a and_o pure_a time_n of_o the_o church_n after_o the_o apostle_n for_o they_o instruct_v in_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o trinity_n and_o faith_n in_o christ_n the_o mediator_n and_o the_o like_a as_o may_v appear_v by_o ancient_a writing_n and_o the_o caterhism_n of_o the_o father_n as_o augustine_n and_o other_o we_o read_v of_o many_o convert_v to_o the_o faith_n of_o christ_n in_o the_o catechise_v school_n of_o alexandria_n and_o so_o well_o ground_v in_o the_o faith_n of_o christ_n that_o they_o be_v fit_v for_o martyrdom_n and_o cheerful_o submit_v to_o the_o same_o six_o of_o origen_n disciple_n whereof_o some_o be_v but_o learn_v their_o catechism_n be_v record_v at_o one_o time_n to_o be_v lead_v to_o martyrdom_n certain_o then_o the_o matter_n of_o this_o exercise_n can_v be_v no_o other_o than_o the_o chief_a principle_n of_o the_o christian_a religion_n the_o four_o reason_n it_o be_v only_o catechise_v in_o scripture_n doctrine_n and_o principle_n of_o religion_n that_o train_n up_o in_o the_o fear_n of_o god_n in_o truth_n and_o godliness_n which_o all_o child_n ought_v to_o be_v educate_v in_o this_o matter_n be_v proper_a to_o that_o excellent_a end_n of_o this_o exercise_n viz._n the_o glory_n of_o god_n and_o salvation_n of_o the_o soul_n before_o speak_v of_o and_o therefore_o this_o only_a must_v be_v the_o matter_n of_o catechise_v for_o in_o all_o effect_n to_o be_v produce_v there_o must_v be_v a_o suitableness_n between_o the_o causa_fw-la and_o the_o causatum_fw-la these_o precedent_a reason_n be_v serious_o consider_v i_o hope_v may_v clear_v it_o to_o every_o rational_a man_n judgement_n that_o the_o matter_n of_o catechise_v must_v always_o be_v the_o head_n and_o yet_o only_a the_o head_n of_o christian_a religion_n that_o be_v matter_n of_o faith_n and_o stand_a principle_n and_o now_o before_o i_o proceed_v to_o make_v know_v to_o you_o the_o manner_n of_o this_o exercise_n i_o must_v make_v a_o little_a stay_n to_o remove_v a_o objection_n frame_v from_o this_o matter_n against_o this_o exercise_n thus_o object_n sir_n see_v that_o the_o sum_n of_o christian_a religion_n extract_v out_o of_o scripture_n as_o repentance_n faith_n sacrament_n resurrection_n and_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o trinity_n and_o the_o like_a must_v be_v as_o you_o say_v the_o proper_a matter_n of_o catechise_v wherein_o do_v it_o differ_v from_o preach_v which_o we_o all_o know_v to_o be_v a_o ordinance_n of_o jesus_n christ_n treat_v of_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o scripture_n and_o that_o very_a matter_n that_o you_o have_v mention_v to_o be_v the_o matter_n of_o this_o exercise_n and_o if_o it_o do_v not_o differ_v may_v it_o not_o be_v sufficient_a that_o we_o submit_v to_o preach_v but_o we_o must_v needs_o have_v catechise_v which_o do_v but_o the_o same_o thing_n impose_v on_o we_o as_o so_o necessary_a a_o duty_n and_o distinct_a from_o preach_v answ_n 1_o it_o will_v not_o follow_v first_o because_o preach_v and_o catechise_v be_v conversant_a about_o the_o same_o matter_n nay_o and_o also_o carry_v on_o to_o the_o same_o end_n that_o they_o be_v not_o different_a and_o distinct_a duty_n each_o from_o other_o for_o they_o may_v treat_v of_o the_o same_o matter_n in_o different_a manner_n for_o though_o faith_n and_o hope_n be_v conversant_a about_o the_o same_o matter_n the_o promise_n and_o centre_n in_o the_o same_o end_n of_o accomplishment_n and_o enjoyment_n yet_o i_o hope_v no_o man_n will_v deny_v they_o to_o be_v different_a and_o distinct_a grace_n in_o the_o soul_n and_o again_o though_o the_o preach_n of_o the_o word_n and_o administration_n of_o the_o sacrament_n commend_v to_o we_o the_o same_o matter_n of_o christ_n crucify_v in_o so_o much_o as_o that_o they_o be_v call_v the_o one_o verbum_fw-la audibile_fw-la the_o audible_a word_n to_o be_v hear_v and_o the_o other_o verbum_fw-la visibile_fw-la the_o word_n to_o be_v see_v and_o so_o both_o the_o word_n yet_o it_o will_v not_o follow_v but_o that_o they_o be_v different_a and_o distinct_a ordinance_n and_o not_o the_o same_o even_o as_o the_o learning_n of_o abc_n be_v different_a and_o distinct_a from_o ready_a read_n which_o be_v but_o a_o recital_n of_o the_o same_o material_a letter_n and_o the_o learning_n of_o the_o first_o rule_n of_o any_o art_n or_o science_n be_v different_a from_o more_o perfect_a proceed_n in_o the_o same_o art_n or_o science_n whether_o logic_n philosophy_n or_o the_o like_a answ_n 2_o second_o we_o shall_v now_o show_v unto_o you_o that_o though_o catechise_v and_o preach_v do_v treat_v of_o the_o same_o matter_n the_o doctrine_n of_o scripture_n yet_o they_o be_v different_a and_o distinct_a ordinance_n in_o the_o church_n of_o god_n and_o not_o to_o stand_v on_o the_o consideration_n of_o they_o as_o distinct_o command_v in_o the_o scripture_n and_o have_v always_o be_v distinct_o subject_v to_o in_o the_o church_n of_o god_n
