he_o be_v desirous_a to_o know_v what_o the_o promise_n of_o god_n be_v which_o he_o be_v to_o believe_v and_o what_o the_o way_n be_v in_o which_o he_o must_v walk_v to_o perform_v the_o duty_n of_o a_o christian_a life_n for_o the_o true_a faith_n work_v by_o charity_n as_o paul_n say_v and_o can_v be_v without_o good_a work_n he_o search_v the_o scripture_n as_o christ_n will_v joh._n 5._o he_o do_v with_o all_o diligence_n bend_v his_o ear_n to_o hear_v the_o holy_a gospel_n of_o jesus_n christ_n preach_v feel_v therein_o the_o power_n of_o god_n to_o work_v faith_n he_o do_v cry_v and_o call_v unto_o god_n day_n &_o night_n for_o to_o teach_v he_o to_o lighten_v he_o to_o give_v he_o understanding_n &_o to_o increase_v his_o faith_n he_o find_v the_o blessing_n of_o god_n in_o these_o mean_n &_o therefore_o apply_v they_o but_o now_o on_o the_o contrary_a part_n he_o that_o rest_v in_o this_o god_n give_v faith_n and_o if_o it_o be_v his_o will_n i_o shall_v have_v it_o and_o so_o despise_v all_o mean_n not_o consider_v how_o god_n give_v faith_n be_v utterlie_o awry_o and_o out_o of_o the_o right_a way_n from_o hence_o it_o be_v that_o there_o be_v so_o many_o commendation_n of_o the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o of_o the_o livelie_a power_n that_o it_o have_v to_o save_v our_o soul_n from_o hence_o it_o be_v that_o we_o be_v often_o call_v upon_o to_o give_v ear_n to_o the_o voice_n of_o god_n to_o hearken_v to_o his_o counsel_n thus_o shall_v we_o obtain_v the_o holy_a faith_n and_o he_o that_o have_v faith_n and_o feel_v the_o power_n of_o god_n in_o he_o if_o he_o will_v have_v it_o increase_v be_v to_o consider_v the_o abundant_a kindness_n of_o god_n who_o have_v bestow_v so_o great_a a_o gift_n upon_o he_o he_o be_v from_o the_o bottom_n of_o of_o foul_a sin_n commit_v then_o will_v he_o cry_v out_o that_o all_o his_o former_a profession_n of_o the_o faith_n be_v but_o in_o show_n or_o in_o hypocrisy_n this_o apostle_n in_o the_o first_o chapter_n of_o his_o second_o epistle_n teach_v that_o if_o we_o join_v virtue_n with_o our_o faith_n and_o with_o virtue_n knowledge_n and_o with_o knowledge_n temperance_n &_o with_o temperance_n patience_n and_o with_o patience_n godliness_n and_o with_o godliness_n brotherlie_a kindness_n and_o with_o brotherlie_a kindness_n love_n we_o shall_v make_v our_o call_n and_o election_n sure_a the_o scripture_n for_o matter_n of_o faith_n and_o be_v able_a to_o confirm_v every_o point_n and_o to_o overthrow_v the_o contrary_a error_n though_o many_o will_v say_v he_o be_v a_o sound_a man_n and_o he_o take_v himself_o to_o be_v as_o great_a a_o gospeller_n as_o any_o other_o yet_o if_o he_o have_v no_o work_n if_o his_o faith_n be_v not_o a_o lively_a regenerate_v say_v he_o may_v esteem_v of_o himself_o what_o he_o will_v but_o the_o lord_n tell_v we_o that_o he_o be_v no_o more_o forward_o than_o the_o devil_n they_o be_v as_o find_v in_o the_o knowledge_n of_o truth_n as_o he_o and_o if_o this_o common_a and_o general_a faith_n will_v serve_v they_o shall_v be_v save_v as_o well_o as_o he_o but_o it_o may_v be_v here_o object_v that_o there_o be_v great_a difference_n between_o the_o faith_n of_o devil_n and_o the_o faith_n of_o those_o man_n which_o believe_v and_o yet_o have_v no_o fruit_n of_o godliness_n in_o they_o the_o devil_n indeed_o do_v believe_v all_o matter_n of_o faith_n to_o be_v true_a but_o they_o do_v not_o nor_o can_v not_o believe_v that_o they_o pertain_v any_o thing_n at_o all_o to_o they_o they_o have_v no_o hope_n of_o mercy_n but_o man_n although_o they_o be_v very_o sinful_a yet_o they_o be_v in_o hope_n that_o they_o shall_v be_v save_v here_o be_v a_o great_a difference_n therefore_o &_o the_o faith_n of_o such_o man_n go_v far_o beyond_o the_o faith_n of_o devil_n the_o lord_n give_v we_o eye_n to_o see_v and_o heart_n to_o understand_v for_o i_o will_v show_v that_o the_o difference_n be_v that_o the_o faith_n of_o the_o devil_n be_v more_o perfect_a for_o what_o be_v the_o

to_o his_o promise_n and_o because_o the_o plain_a testimony_n of_o the_o scripture_n compel_v they_o they_o affirm_v it_o constant_o and_o condemn_v the_o contrary_a as_o a_o soul_n error_n that_o god_n have_v choose_v man_n and_o man_n come_v to_o feel_v and_o to_o know_v this_o and_o therefore_o because_o it_o be_v a_o true_a doctrine_n they_o say_v also_o that_o they_o themselves_o be_v be_v spot_v with_o filthy_a crime_n we_o may_v bold_o say_v they_o be_v liar_n for_o although_o they_o brag_v with_o their_o tongue_n of_o that_o that_o they_o shall_v be_v yet_o there_o be_v a_o bird_n in_o their_o breast_n which_o do_v sing_v in_o a_o contrary_a note_n &_o tell_v they_o plain_o what_o they_o be_v another_o kind_n of_o man_n there_o be_v which_o in_o no_o case_n can_v be_v persuade_v that_o any_o man_n can_v be_v sure_a of_o salvation_n and_o therefore_o with_o scoff_n they_o ask_v of_o they_o which_o profess_v the_o word_n when_o god_n tell_v they_o so_o if_o it_o be_v a_o thing_n which_o be_v not_o to_o be_v or_o can_v not_o be_v know_v than_o the_o apostle_n have_v great_o overshoot_v himself_o in_o tell_v we_o how_o we_o shall_v come_v to_o be_v sure_a but_o
