and_o welfare_n of_o our_o native_a country_n the_o prosperity_n of_o the_o church_n the_o propagation_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o the_o success_n of_o its_o minister_n in_o the_o work_n of_o the_o lord_n our_o reader_n must_v also_o remember_v how_o much_o our_o author_n have_v reflect_v upon_o conceive_a prayer_n for_o have_v in_o they_o the_o same_o thing_n over_o and_o over_o again_o part._n 2._o p_o 17_o 18._o as_o contrary_a to_o the_o order_n of_o our_o saviour_n who_o express_o forbid_v we_o vain_a repetition_n matt._n 6._o 7_o 8._o now_o unless_o this_o be_v only_o faulty_a in_o conceive_a prayer_n not_o in_o form_n also_o and_o we_o ought_v in_o public_a only_o to_o pray_v for_o thing_n which_o a_o whole_a congregation_n in_o common_a want_v and_o to_o confess_v sin_n which_o a_o whole_a congregation_n not_o some_o person_n only_o in_o it_o be_v guilty_a of_o one_o single_a collect_n be_v enough_o here_o be_v but_o eleven_o or_o twelve_o line_n make_v comprehensive_a of_o all_o this_o nor_o must_v any_o particular_a confession_n of_o sin_n be_v make_v but_o only_o in_o the_o general_n that_o we_o have_v all_o sin_v and_o come_v short_a of_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n for_o there_o be_v few_o sin_n that_o every_o individual_a person_n in_o a_o congregation_n be_v guilty_a of_o 6._o suppose_v that_o none_o but_o the_o same_o sin_n and_o those_o the_o sin_n of_o the_o whole_a congregation_n ought_v to_o be_v in_o public_a prayer_n confess_v and_o none_o but_o the_o same_o good_a thing_n and_o those_o such_o as_o be_v the_o want_v of_o the_o whole_a congregation_n aught_o to_o be_v petition_v for_o yet_o neither_o be_v such_o sin_n nor_o such_o want_v always_o the_o same_o much_o less_o such_o mercy_n as_o refer_v to_o a_o whole_a congregation_n god_n mercy_n to_o congregation_n as_o well_o as_o person_n be_v new_a every_o morning_n so_o as_o the_o same_o form_n will_v not_o serve_v 7._o i_o therefore_o conclude_v that_o although_o this_o be_v the_o best_a argument_n i_o know_v can_v be_v bring_v for_o the_o constant_a use_n of_o a_o state_v form_n of_o word_n in_o prayer_n if_o it_o can_v be_v maintain_v yet_o the_o hypothesis_n be_v in_o no_o degree_n true_a and_o the_o argument_n build_v upon_o it_o must_v needs_o be_v very_o weak_a suppose_v what_o be_v far_o from_o truth_n prayer_n be_v the_o communion_n of_o the_o church_n wherein_o the_o member_n of_o it_o be_v not_o only_o to_o confess_v their_o joint_a sin_n but_o the_o particular_a sin_n though_o not_o all_o the_o particular_a sin_n of_o which_o some_o may_v not_o be_v sit_v for_o public_a notice_n of_o each_o member_n or_o any_o number_n of_o member_n and_o to_o beg_v not_o only_o a_o supply_n of_o such_o thing_n as_o they_o all_o want_n but_o as_o any_o member_n of_o their_o body_n or_o number_n of_o their_o member_n be_v guilty_a of_o and_o know_v to_o be_v so_o or_o stand_v in_o need_n of_o this_o be_v enough_o to_o have_v speak_v to_o the_o first_o thing_n say_v by_o our_o author_n as_o to_o this_o first_o case_n 2._o he_o tell_v we_o second_o that_o such_o alteration_n of_o the_o common_a case_n of_o christian_a church_n as_o can_v not_o be_v foresee_v and_o provide_v for_o at_o the_o first_o form_v of_o their_o liturgy_n may_v for_o the_o most_o part_n be_v provide_v for_o in_o new_a form_n to_o which_o i_o say_v 1._o that_o this_o proceed_v upon_o the_o former_a supposition_n that_o no_o sin_n be_v to_o be_v confess_v in_o public_a prayer_n but_o such_o as_o be_v the_o common_a sin_n of_o the_o congregation_n no_o good_a thing_n to_o be_v beg_v but_o such_o as_o all_o person_n in_o the_o congregation_n want_n no_o thanksgigiving_n to_o be_v make_v but_o for_o mercy_n affect_v the_o whole_a congregation_n which_o be_v not_o true_a and_o contrary_a to_o all_o reason_n and_o practice_n as_o i_o have_v already_o show_v and_o therefore_o i_o need_v not_o here_o enlarge_v again_o on_o that_o discourse_n but_o suppose_v what_o i_o have_v before_o prove_v that_o the_o more_o notorious_a and_o publickly-noticed_n sin_v of_o any_o member_n or_o number_n of_o member_n in_o congregation_n such_o as_o swear_v curse_v drunkenness_n note_a uncleanness_n etc._n etc._n be_v matter_n of_o public_a confession_n and_o the_o want_v of_o any_o member_n or_o number_n of_o member_n in_o a_o congregation_n know_v to_o the_o minister_n and_o better_a part_n of_o the_o people_n be_v matter_n of_o public_a petition_n and_o any_o note_a deliverance_n or_o mercy_n bestow_v on_o any_o member_n or_o any_o number_n of_o member_n of_o a_o congregation_n be_v also_o matter_n of_o public_a thanksgiving_n these_o be_v so_o frequent_o renew_v so_o often_o vary_v that_o our_o casuist_n can_v hardly_o have_v say_v new_a form_n be_v likely_a to_o be_v make_v sufficient_a for_o they_o and_o proper_a to_o they_o especial_o consider_v public_a form_n be_v not_o ordinary_o make_v by_o the_o respective_a minister_n of_o congregation_n who_o alone_o by_o watch_v over_o his_o flock_n be_v like_a to_o know_v its_o state_n 2._o second_o there_o may_v be_v and_o ordinary_o be_v so_o great_a a_o variety_n in_o the_o state_n of_o particular_a congregation_n as_o to_o sin_n want_v and_o mercy_n that_o it_o
