and_o that_o promise_a spirit_n which_o shall_v convince_v the_o world_n of_o sin_n of_o righteousness_n and_o of_o judgement_n and_o whosoever_o mind_n and_o believe_v it_o shall_v by_o this_o grace_n and_o spirit_n come_v out_o of_o darkness_n to_o eternal_a life_n but_o to_o discover_v so_o great_a a_o mistake_n we_o must_v know_v that_o it_o be_v true_a that_o all_o man_n in_o the_o world_n have_v some_o light_n by_o nature_n more_o or_o less_o that_o convince_v of_o sin_n for_o it_o be_v say_v that_o the_o gentile_n do_v by_o nature_n the_o thing_n contain_v in_o the_o law_n and_o be_v a_o law_n unto_o themselves_o their_o thought_n accuse_v or_o excuse_v one_o another_o rom._n 2.14_o mark_v the_o apostle_n do_v not_o say_v that_o the_o gentile_n by_o the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n and_o free_a grace_n enlighten_v they_o do_v the_o thing_n contain_v in_o the_o law_n but_o they_o do_v those_o thing_n of_o the_o law_n by_o nature_n and_o they_o be_v a_o law_n to_o themselves_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n be_v not_o a_o law_n to_o themselves_o because_o that_o be_v distinct_a from_o man_n and_z gives_z law_n to_o man_n as_o he_o do_v the_o write_a law_n to_o his_o people_n but_o this_o be_v another_o distinct_a thing_n they_o be_v a_o law_n to_o themselves_o man_n since_o the_o fall_n have_v not_o lose_v his_o reason_n but_o that_o divine_a rectitude_n and_o perfection_n thereof_o that_o make_v he_o conformable_a to_o the_o will_n of_o god_n unto_o life_n there_o be_v a_o spark_n of_o reason_n and_o immortality_n in_o the_o soul_n of_o man_n still_o which_o rational_a soul_n though_o it_o be_v deprave_v of_o what_o it_o be_v and_o now_o be_v subject_n to_o error_n and_o vanity_n that_o not_o any_o can_v be_v save_v by_o follow_v that_o light_n only_o yet_o it_o be_v such_o a_o light_n as_o it_o be_v call_v the_o candle_n of_o the_o lord_n prov._n 20.27_o and_o direct_v man_n to_o do_v the_o thing_n contain_v in_o the_o law_n and_o this_o be_v witness_v by_o most_o people_n and_o nation_n upon_o the_o earth_n that_o reason_n which_o they_o have_v by_o nature_n direct_v they_o to_o make_v law_n to_o preserve_v humane_a society_n and_o the_o common-weal_n of_o the_o whole_a and_o hence_o punish_v theft_n murder_n whoredom_n drunkenness_n perjury_n etc._n etc._n and_o encourage_v to_o moral_a virtue_n which_o thing_n be_v contain_v in_o the_o law_n of_o god_n and_o yet_o they_o know_v nothing_o of_o jesus_n christ_n nor_o of_o any_o other_o thing_n which_o accompany_v salvation_n beside_o as_o man_n be_v under_o great_a advantage_n of_o light_n in_o respect_n of_o the_o outward_a mean_n as_o the_o scripture_n ministry_n education_n example_n so_o also_o in_o respect_n of_o the_o more_o common_a working_n of_o the_o spirit_n enlighten_v and_o convince_a some_o man_n by_o nature_n know_v more_o and_o do_v more_o the_o thing_n contain_v in_o the_o law_n and_o gospel_n too_o the_o very_a principle_n of_o reason_n and_o conscience_n urge_v every_o one_o to_o do_v the_o good_a and_o to_o shun_v the_o evil_n what_o man_n of_o ingenuity_n can_v withstand_v the_o strength_n of_o reason_n but_o yield_v his_o assent_n though_o not_o able_a to_o bring_v up_o himself_o to_o the_o practice_n of_o what_o himself_o allow_v with_o sincerity_n till_o renew_v by_o the_o spirit_n of_o grace_n the_o spirit_n of_o man_n know_v the_o thing_n in_o man_n and_o have_v that_o inspection_n and_o reflection_n in_o man_n from_o the_o understand_a faculty_n that_o it_o know_v its_o own_o motion_n intention_n and_o action_n whether_o good_a or_o evil_n according_a to_o its_o light_n and_o according_o conscience_n god_n deputy_n great_a than_o a_o thousand_o witness_n either_o condemn_v or_o excuse_v and_o i_o judge_v that_o all_o man_n have_v this_o in_o some_o measure_n until_o through_o custom_n in_o sin_n and_o withstand_v this_o light_n and_o god_n just_a judgement_n concur_v they_o be_v give_v up_o to_o a_o sear_a conscience_n past_a feeling_n as_o be_v say_v of_o some_o but_o now_o for_o these_o people_n to_o run_v up_o and_o down_o to_o teach_v man_n that_o this_o which_o be_v but_o the_o light_n of_o reason_n improve_v by_o the_o help_n of_o ordinary_a mean_n and_o working_n be_v the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n and_o the_o free_a grace_n of_o god_n that_o bring_v salvation_n be_v such_o a_o pernicious_a diabolical_a dream_n that_o never_o come_v into_o the_o head_n of_o any_o till_o now_o i_o think_v that_o man_n soul_n be_v a_o create_a substance_n give_v of_o god_n from_o who_o be_v all_o thing_n be_v true_a but_o that_o this_o spirit_n of_o man_n which_o be_v call_v the_o candle_n of_o the_o lord_n be_v god_n spirit_n that_o be_v promise_v to_o convince_v the_o world_n of_o unbelief_n and_o of_o the_o necessity_n of_o righteousness_n by_o christ_n victory_n over_o sin_n satan_n and_o hell_n as_o that_o of_o john_n intend_v and_o lead_v out_o of_o darkness_n into_o eternal_a life_n be_v a_o most_o blasphemous_a error_n what_o though_o they_o will_v not_o say_v that_o the_o soul_n of_o man_n be_v the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n promise_v to_o convince_v of_o sin_n under_o that_o notion_n and_o expression_n yet_o upon_o the_o matter_n they_o say_v the_o same_o when_o out_o of_o desperate_a mistake_n they_o make_v that_o to_o be_v the_o immediate_a light_n and_o power_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n which_o in_o deed_n and_o truth_n be_v but_o the_o rational_a soul_n of_o man_n in_o all_o by_o nature_n or_o acquire_v in_o the_o use_n of_o ordinary_a mean_n and_o working_n and_o thus_o you_o see_v while_o they_o be_v debase_v man_n below_o what_o he_o be_v by_o nature_n they_o be_v advance_v he_o above_o what_o he_o be_v at_o the_o same_o time_n by_o nature_n they_o endow_v he_o with_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n and_o the_o gift_n of_o free_a grace_n to_o lead_v all_o man_n out_o of_o darkness_n to_o eternal_a life_n hence_o they_o deify_v that_o which_o be_v the_o gift_n of_o nature_n and_o make_v all_o man_n their_o own_o saviour_n hence_o they_o make_v the_o difference_v act_n between_o good_a and_o bad_a the_o save_v and_o damn_a to_o be_v man_n self_n under_o dark_a impotent_a nature_n corrupt_v hence_o they_o slight_v the_o death_n of_o christ_n and_o say_v as_o one_o to_o i_o that_o sinner_n have_v no_o benefit_n by_o that_o blood_n of_o christ_n that_o be_v shed_v at_o jerusalem_n for_o that_o be_v the_o blood_n of_o man_n and_o it_o be_v the_o blood_n of_o god_n that_o man_n have_v benefit_n by_o not_o that_o god_n be_v capable_a of_o shed_v blood_n but_o this_o be_v a_o figurative_a speech_n set_v forth_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n that_o convince_v the_o world_n of_o sin_n it_o be_v ask_v to_o what_o end_n do_v jesus_n christ_n come_v into_o the_o world_n and_o so_o to_o suffer_v his_o answer_n be_v to_o put_v a_o end_n to_o the_o cereremony_n and_o that_o be_v all_o that_o he_o will_v yield_v although_o he_o be_v a_o man_n of_o considerable_a ability_n so_o strong_a be_v the_o delusion_n hence_o they_o comprehend_v all_o man_n under_o the_o grace_n of_o the_o new_a testament_n and_o make_v no_o difference_n between_o the_o visible_a profess_v church_n and_o the_o pagan_a world_n all_o may_v be_v save_v alike_o if_o they_o will_n hence_o they_o cast_v off_o all_o outward_a mean_n ordinance_n form_n of_o religious_a worship_n and_o bid_v hearken_v to_o the_o spirit_n within_o etc._n etc._n as_o if_o all_o thing_n god_n in_o his_o word_n have_v appoint_v be_v always_o superfluous_a and_o in_o vain_a they_o throw_v away_o god_n election_n special_a redemption_n the_o saint_n perseverance_n they_o will_v have_v man_n to_o have_v the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n and_o the_o free_a grace_n of_o the_o covenant_n and_o yet_o be_v none_o of_o he_o just_o contrary_a to_o plain_a scripture_n rom_n 8._o but_o i_o must_v not_o enlarge_v let_v they_o tell_v we_o how_o they_o will_v escape_v these_o rock_n let_v they_o tell_v we_o what_o difference_n they_o make_v between_o the_o conviction_n of_o the_o spirit_n in_o the_o unregenerate_a pagan_a or_o christian_n and_o those_o that_o be_v regenerate_v and_o how_o the_o spirit_n be_v in_o the_o infidel_n and_o how_o in_o the_o true_a believer_n and_o where_o any_o that_o be_v account_v for_o light_n in_o the_o lord_n be_v under_o darkness_n too_o and_o where_o be_v any_o in_o a_o infidel_n state_n call_v light_n in_o the_o lord_n prove_v all_o thing_n and_o the_o lord_n direct_v to_o that_o right_a
