the_o ordinary_a minister_n and_o no_o more_o than_o this_o seem_v to_o be_v mean_v by_o the_o same_o saint_n paul_n though_o much_o more_o be_v speak_v 1_o cor._n 14._o 6._o except_o i_o shall_v speak_v to_o you_o either_o by_o revelation_n or_o by_o knowledge_n or_o by_o prophesy_v or_o by_o doctrine_n all_o these_o four_o kind_n of_o speak_v be_v reducible_a to_o the_o former_a two_o word_n for_o speak_v by_o revelation_n and_o by_o prophesy_v belong_v to_o the_o word_n of_o wisdom_n speak_v by_o knowledge_n and_o by_o doctrine_n belong_v to_o the_o word_n of_o knowledge_n however_o this_o be_v certain_o a_o unquestionable_a truth_n that_o the_o church_n be_v still_o bind_v to_o preach_v both_o by_o the_o word_n of_o wisdom_n &_o by_o the_o word_n of_o knowledge_n and_o be_v according_o bind_v to_o translate_v and_o read_v the_o scripture_n that_o she_o may_v preach_v by_o the_o word_n of_o wisdom_n and_o to_o expound_v the_o scripture_n that_o she_o may_v preach_v by_o the_o word_n of_o knowledge_n this_o be_v the_o twofold_a manner_n of_o preach_v use_v in_o the_o primitive_a church_n first_o by_o read_v the_o write_a word_n of_o god_n then_o by_o expound_v it_o so_o justine_n martyr_n assure_v we_o in_o his_o second_o apology_n 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d first_o be_v read_v the_o commentary_n of_o the_o apostle_n or_o the_o write_n of_o the_o prophet_n for_o some_o convenient_a time_n after_o that_o the_o president_n when_o the_o reader_n have_v do_v do_v make_v a_o sermon_n admonish_v and_o exhort_v they_o to_o practise_v what_o they_o have_v hear_v or_o to_o be_v doer_n of_o the_o word_n and_o not_o hearer_n only_o deceive_v their_o own_o soul_n james_n 1._o 22._o and_o indeed_o preach_v by_o read_v and_o consequent_o by_o translate_n the_o scripture_n be_v sufficient_o commend_v in_o that_o say_n they_o have_v moses_n and_o the_o prophet_n let_v they_o hear_v they_o but_o we_o can_v now_o hear_v they_o in_o the_o tongue_n wherein_o they_o speak_v we_o must_v therefore_o hear_v they_o in_o our_o own_o tongue_n and_o it_o be_v sufficient_o commend_v in_o that_o say_n if_o they_o hear_v not_o moses_n and_o the_o prophet_n neither_o will_v they_o be_v persuade_v though_o one_o rise_v from_o the_o dead_a luke_o 16._o 29_o 31._o whereby_o it_o be_v evident_a that_o the_o holy_a scripture_n preach_v much_o more_o powerful_o and_o efficacious_o for_o the_o conversion_n of_o sinner_n than_o any_o preacher_n that_o can_v come_v from_o the_o dead_a and_o therefore_o sure_o no_o preacher_n among_o the_o live_a can_v come_v near_o they_o in_o the_o power_n and_o efficacity_n of_o preach_v this_o be_v the_o reason_n that_o the_o apostle_n so_o solemn_o charge_v or_o rather_o adjure_v the_o church_n of_o the_o thessalonian_n to_o read_v his_o epistle_n to_o all_o the_o holy_a brethren_n 1_o thes_n 5._o 27._o not_o doubt_v but_o that_o his_o one_o epistle_n alone_o will_v work_v more_o good_a upon_o the_o people_n soul_n than_o all_o their_o sermon_n and_o since_o the_o same_o adjuration_n concern_v all_o other_o church_n it_o be_v clear_a they_o be_v thereby_o oblige_v to_o translate_v that_o epistle_n into_o their_o vulgar_a tongue_n for_o else_o it_o will_v be_v in_o vain_a for_o they_o to_o read_v it_o to_o the_o people_n which_o truth_n be_v not_o only_o evidence_v and_o evince_v but_o also_o establish_v and_o enforce_v at_o large_a by_o the_o same_o apostle_n concern_v the_o whole_a body_n of_o the_o scripture_n in_o the_o 14._o of_o the_o first_o to_o the_o corinth_n in_o that_o he_o forbid_v a_o unknown_a tongue_n to_o be_v use_v in_o the_o church_n for_o these_o 5._o several_a reason_n 1._o because_o it_o be_v a_o enemy_n to_o edification_n and_o speak_v into_o the_o air_n v_o 9_o 2._o because_o it_o induce_v barbarism_n in_o the_o very_a public_a exercise_n of_o christianity_n make_v the_o priest_n little_a other_o than_o a_o barbarian_a to_o the_o people_n v_o 11._o 3._o because_o it_o hinder_v christian_a communion_n for_o none_o of_o the_o unlearned_a can_v so_o much_o as_o say_v amen_o to_o any_o of_o the_o priest_n prayer_n or_o thanksgiving_n v_o 16._o 4._o because_o it_o reproach_v they_o among_o themselves_o as_o if_o they_o be_v not_o yet_o in_o the_o true_a faith_n for_o tongue_n be_v for_o a_o sign_n not_o to_o they_o that_o believe_v but_o to_o they_o that_o believe_v not_o v_o 22._o 5._o because_o it_o reproach_v they_o among_o stranger_n as_o if_o they_o be_v not_o in_o their_o right_a wit_n will_v they_o not_o say_v that_o you_o be_v mad_a v_o 23._o all_o these_o reason_n either_o now_o forbid_v the_o read_n of_o the_o scripture_n in_o our_o church_n which_o yet_o the_o holy_a ghost_n himself_o give_v we_o for_o a_o liturgy_n because_o they_o be_v in_o tongue_n unknown_a to_o we_o or_o they_o require_v and_o enjoin_v the_o translate_n of_o they_o into_o such_o tongue_n as_o may_v be_v understand_v by_o the_o people_n therefore_o it_o be_v undeniable_a that_o the_o church_n be_v bind_v to_o preach_v by_o translate_n the_o holy_a scripture_n and_o may_v not_o refuse_v so_o to_o do_v unless_o she_o will_v be_v like_o that_o unprofitable_a servant_n who_o after_o he_o have_v receive_v his_o talon_n go_v and_o dig_v in_o the_o earth_n and_o hide_v his_o lord_n money_n mat._n 25._o 18._o and_o it_o be_v to_o be_v wish_v that_o those_o church_n who_o do_v so_o will_v serious_o consider_v the_o unprofitable_a servant_n doom_n which_o be_v twofold_a first_o that_o his_o talon_n be_v take_v from_o he_o second_o that_o he_o be_v cast_v into_o outer_a darkness_n for_o this_o his_o doom_n may_v not_o unfit_o be_v think_v their_o danger_n since_o they_o do_v high_o provoke_v god_n to_o take_v that_o precious_a soul_n of_o the_o common_a people_n second_o preach_v by_o expound_v the_o scripture_n be_v sufficient_o command_v in_o that_o it_o be_v the_o affirmative_a precept_n of_o the_o three_o commandment_n which_o will_v have_v we_o glorify_v the_o name_n of_o god_n in_o our_o word_n even_o as_o the_o second_o will_v have_v we_o glorify_v he_o in_o our_o body_n and_o the_o four_o will_v have_v we_o glorify_v he_o in_o our_o work_n so_o that_o of_o all_o man_n in_o the_o world_n those_o preacher_n who_o do_v least_o aim_n at_o glorify_v god_n in_o their_o sermon_n do_v most_o take_v the_o name_n of_o god_n in_o vain_a unless_o it_o be_v such_o as_o not_o only_o preach_v but_o also_o pray_v amiss_o for_o they_o indeed_o be_v guilty_a of_o a_o double_a blasphemy_n since_o pray_v as_o to_o the_o outward_a word_n be_v little_a other_o than_o a_o most_o holy_a a_o most_o sanctify_v preach_v the_o same_o preach_v by_o expound_v the_o scripture_n be_v likewise_o sufficient_o commend_v first_o in_o that_o christ_n himself_o the_o eternal_a word_n be_v please_v to_o turn_v preacher_n and_o yet_o to_o stay_v till_o he_o be_v full_o 30._o year_n old_a before_o he_o will_v take_v upon_o he_o the_o burden_n of_o preach_v which_o be_v the_o reason_n the_o father_n give_v in_o the_o council_n of_o noecaesarea_n can._n 11._o why_o none_o shall_v be_v admit_v to_o the_o order_n of_o
