demand_v of_o they_o a_o scripture-proof_n that_o there_o be_v such_o a_o place_n as_o purgatory_n they_o think_v they_o may_v as_o reasonable_o demand_v of_o we_o a_o scripture-proof_n that_o there_o be_v no_o such_o place_n as_o purgatory_n just_o with_o as_o much_o reason_n as_o if_o one_o shall_v tell_v i_o that_o by_o the_o law_n of_o england_n every_o man_n be_v bind_v to_o marry_v at_o a_o question_n to_o ask_v we_o what_o church_n we_o join_v in_o communion_n with_o when_o we_o forsake_v the_o communion_n of_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n for_o if_o by_o join_v in_o communion_n with_o other_o church_n they_o mean_v unite_n ourselves_o in_o one_o ecclesiastical_a body_n with_o they_o put_v ourselves_o under_o the_o government_n of_o any_o other_o patriarch_n so_o we_o join_v in_o communion_n with_o no_o other_o church_n and_o there_o be_v no_o reason_n we_o shall_v for_o we_o be_v original_o a_o free_a independent_a church_n which_o owe_v no_o subjection_n to_o any_o and_o practice_v as_o they_o teach_v but_o what_o the_o faith_n and_o practice_n of_o the_o apostle_n and_o their_o immediate_a successor_n be_v and_o yet_o they_o very_o well_o know_v that_o most_o of_o those_o doctrine_n and_o practice_n which_o they_o condemn_v in_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n be_v condemn_v by_o other_o church_n also_o though_o it_o may_v be_v those_o other_o church_n may_v have_v some_o less_o error_n and_o corruption_n of_o their_o own_o if_o the_o scripture_n and_o the_o example_n of_o the_o primitive_a church_n be_v a_o sufficient_a authority_n to_o justify_v a_o reformation_n than_o the_o church_n of_o england_n be_v blameless_a though_o no_o other_o church_n in_o the_o world_n follow_v this_o pattern_n but_o ourselves_o for_o this_o be_v the_o rule_n and_o who_o be_v sober_a and_o honest_a inquirer_n may_v understand_v they_o as_o well_o as_o divine_n unless_o he_o will_v say_v that_o divine_n understand_v they_o not_o by_o the_o use_n of_o their_o reason_n and_o wise_a consideration_n but_o by_o inspiration_n and_o prophecy_n and_o than_o it_o be_v not_o the_o scripture_n but_o the_o inspire_a interpretation_n of_o it_o which_o make_v man_n wise_a unto_o salvation_n at_o least_o he_o must_v grant_v that_o the_o scripture_n can_v make_v any_o other_o man_n of_o god_n perfect_a as_o well_o as_o the_o pope_n for_o this_o be_v not_o speak_v of_o s._n peter_n and_o his_o successor_n only_o but_o of_o timothy_n and_o any_o other_o man_n of_o god_n and_o therefore_o there_o be_v no_o need_n that_o all_o other_o bishop_n and_o pastor_n shall_v depend_v on_o the_o pope_n as_o a_o infallible_a oracle_n nay_o if_o the_o scripture_n be_v able_a to_o make_v the_o man_n of_o god_n perfect_a in_o the_o discharge_n of_o his_o ministry_n of_o which_o s._n paul_n here_o speak_v for_o doctrine_n for_o reproof_n for_o correction_n for_o instruction_n in_o righteousness_n than_o the_o people_n also_o who_o be_v to_o be_v teach_v may_v be_v make_v to_o understand_v the_o scripture_n the_o doctrine_n reproof_n and_o instruction_n of_o it_o for_o as_o the_o scripture_n be_v the_o teacher_n rule_n so_o it_o be_v his_o authority_n too_o and_o if_o the_o people_n can_v be_v teach_v to_o understand_v the_o scripture_n in_o thing_n necessary_a to_o salvation_n they_o can_v know_v that_o such_o thing_n be_v in_o scripture_n which_o destroy_v the_o divine_a authority_n of_o the_o preacher_n for_o what_o he_o teach_v without_o scripture_n can_v only_o have_v his_o own_o authority_n or_o the_o authority_n of_o other_o man_n like_o himself_o and_o yet_o no_o man_n can_v tell_v whether_o what_o he_o teach_v be_v in_o the_o scripture_n who_o can_v in_o some_o measure_n understand_v the_o scripture_n himself_o and_o if_o a_o divine_a faith_n must_v be_v found_v upon_o the_o authority_n of_o scripture_n which_o be_v the_o only_a divine_a authority_n we_o now_o have_v and_o no_o man_n can_v believe_v upon_o the_o authority_n of_o scripture_n who_o can_v understand_v it_o than_o it_o be_v as_o necessary_a that_o all_o thing_n necessary_a to_o salvation_n shall_v be_v so_o plain_a in_o scripture_n that_o all_o person_n at_o least_o with_o the_o help_n of_o a_o guide_n shall_v understand_v they_o as_o it_o be_v that_o all_o even_o the_o mean_a man_n shall_v know_v all_o thing_n necessary_a to_o their_o salvation_n for_o it_o be_v a_o scandal_n to_o the_o protestant_a profession_n to_o say_v that_o we_o reject_v the_o authority_n of_o church_n guide_n which_o we_o own_v as_o well_o as_o the_o understand_v the_o scripture_n in_o all_o thing_n necessary_a to_o salvation_n than_o the_o scripture_n be_v plain_a and_o intelligible_a though_o a_o unlearned_a man_n can_v understand_v it_o without_o a_o guide_n as_o mathematical_a demonstration_n be_v certain_o plain_a if_o any_o thing_n be_v plain_a though_o unskilful_a man_n can_v understand_v they_o without_o a_o master_n but_o that_o be_v clear_a and_o plain_a in_o itself_o which_o can_v be_v explain_v to_o every_o ordinary_a apprehension_n and_o such_o we_o assert_v the_o scripture_n to_o be_v in_o all_o necessary_n learned_a man_n can_v by_o their_o own_o study_n and_o inquiry_n understand_v the_o true_a sense_n of_o they_o and_o the_o unlearned_a can_v be_v teach_v to_o
understand_v they_o and_o this_o be_v the_o use_n we_o make_v of_o our_o guide_n not_o to_o submit_v our_o judgement_n to_o they_o without_o any_o understanding_n but_o to_o inform_v our_o judgement_n sense_n of_o scripture_n be_v and_o require_v they_o to_o believe_v it_o but_o show_v they_o out_o of_o the_o scripture_n that_o this_o be_v and_o must_v be_v the_o true_a sense_n of_o it_o and_o we_o need_v not_o fear_n that_o protestancy_n shall_v suffer_v any_o thing_n from_o such_o guide_n as_o these_o though_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n indeed_o have_v feel_v the_o ill_a effect_n of_o they_o for_o argument_n iii_o justification_n by_o faith_n alone_o viz._n a_o persuasion_n that_o we_o be_v justify_v be_v a_o wholesome_a doctrine_n in_o answer_n to_o this_o i_o deny_v that_o our_o church_n teach_v that_o justify_v faith_n be_v a_o persuasion_n that_o we_o be_v justify_v he_o grant_v that_o some_o of_o the_o church_n of_o england_n have_v condemn_v it_o p._n 4._o but_o yet_o he_o may_v as_o just_o charge_v we_o with_o it_o as_o we_o charge_v the_o church_n of_o rome_n with_o doctrine_n contrary_a to_o their_o general_n council_n and_o constant_a profession_n and_o we_o themselves_o with_o our_o article_n but_o the_o strict_a adherer_n to_o the_o primitive_a reformer_n in_o doctrine_n the_o puritan_n assert_v this_o solifidian_n parenthesis_n as_o the_o genuine_a and_o literal_a sense_n of_o justification_n by_o faith_n alone_o and_o of_o the_o eleven_o article_n why_o the_o puritan_n the_o strict_a adherer_n to_o the_o primitive_a reformer_n in_o doctrine_n but_o we_o need_v not_o ask_v a_o reason_n of_o his_o say_n who_o understand_v nothing_o about_o what_o he_o speak_v for_o the_o puritan_n do_v not_o and_o do_v not_o believe_v that_o justify_v live_a faith_n which_o alone_o justify_v and_o then_o i_o suppose_v as_o many_o text_n as_o there_o be_v which_o attribute_n our_o justification_n to_o faith_n so_o many_o proof_n there_o be_v that_o justification_n by_o faith_n alone_o as_o oppose_v to_o all_o meritorious_a work_n be_v a_o wholesome_a doctrine_n and_o very_o full_a of_o comfort_n iv._o the_o substance_n of_o bread_n and_o wine_n remain_v after_o what_o it_o be_v before_o sacerdotal_a consecration_n here_o he_o take_v no_o notice_n of_o any_o one_o word_n which_o i_o return_v in_o answer_n the_o sum_n of_o which_o be_v that_o the_o material_a substance_n before_o and_o after_o consecration_n be_v the_o same_o that_o be_v that_o they_o be_v bread_n and_o wine_n still_o but_o by_o virtue_n of_o christ_n institution_n after_o consecration_n they_o be_v not_o mere_a bread_n and_o wine_n but_o a_o sacrament_n of_o our_o redemption_n by_o christ_n death_n and_o to_o such_o as_o right_o and_o worthy_o and_o by_o faith_n receive_v the_o same_o the_o bread_n which_o we_o break_v be_v a_o partake_n of_o the_o body_n of_o christ_n and_o likewise_o the_o cup_n of_o blessing_n be_v a_o partake_n of_o the_o blood_n of_o christ_n as_o our_o church_n teach_v and_o this_o i_o prove_v must_v be_v the_o sense_n of_o the_o word_n of_o institution_n this_o be_v my_o body_n and_o urge_v such_o argument_n for_o it_o in_o
