never_o matter_n how_o strange_a and_o impossible_a scripture-mystery_n may_v seem_v to_o flesh_n and_o blood_n to_o the_o corrupt_a and_o captious_a understanding_n of_o natural_a man_n when_o the_o word_n of_o god_n have_v undertake_v for_o the_o truth_n it_o be_v as_o much_o impiety_n to_o doubt_v of_o they_o as_o it_o be_v folly_n to_o question_v the_o reality_n of_o what_o we_o see_v with_o our_o very_a eye_n nay_o the_o information_n of_o our_o sense_n what_o we_o see_v what_o we_o hear_v what_o we_o feel_v be_v not_o so_o certain_a as_o the_o truth_n of_o those_o thing_n which_o god_n reveal_v and_o testify_v in_o the_o scripture_n and_o therefore_o the_o apostle_n 2_o pet._n 1.18_o 19_o speak_v of_o that_o miraculous_a voice_n that_o sound_v from_o heaven_n matth._n 17.5_o this_o be_v my_o belove_a son_n in_o who_o i_o be_o well_o please_v we_o say_v the_o apostle_n hear_v this_o voice_n when_o we_o be_v with_o he_o in_o the_o holy_a mount_n but_o we_o have_v also_o a_o more_o sure_a word_n of_o prophecy_n or_o as_o the_o greek_a may_v well_o be_v render_v we_o account_v more_o sure_a the_o word_n of_o prophecy_n unto_o which_o you_o do_v well_o that_o you_o take_v heed_n what_o a_o more_o sure_a word_n than_o a_o voice_n from_o heaven_n when_o god_n himself_o shall_v vocal_o bear_v witness_n to_o the_o truth_n yes_o we_o have_v a_o more_o sure_a word_n and_o that_o be_v the_o word_n of_o prophecy_n record_v in_o the_o old_a testament_n and_o hence_o it_o will_v follow_v that_o because_o the_o prophecy_n concern_v christ_n may_v seem_v somewhat_o obscure_a in_o comparison_n with_o this_o audible_a voice_n from_o heaven_n therefore_o the_o testimony_n of_o obscure_a scripture_n be_v to_o be_v prefer_v before_o the_o testimony_n of_o clear_a sense_n now_o therefore_o if_o you_o will_v know_v thing_n beyond_o all_o danger_n either_o of_o falsehood_n or_o hesitation_n be_v conversant_a in_o the_o scripture_n where_o we_o may_v take_v all_o for_o grace_n which_o be_v thing_n that_o can_v never_o have_v be_v know_v but_o by_o divine_a revelation_n indeed_o we_o may_v from_o the_o work_n of_o god_n alone_o gather_v knowledge_n enough_o of_o he_o to_o make_v we_o inexcusable_a if_o we_o worship_v he_o not_o as_o god_n for_o so_o do_v the_o heathen_n as_o the_o apostle_n speak_v in_o the_o forecited_a place_n rom._n 1.20_o but_o it_o be_v only_o from_o the_o word_n that_o we_o know_v so_o much_o of_o god_n as_o to_o make_v we_o eternal_o bless_a and_o happy_a here_o he_o have_v display_v his_o name_n the_o lord_n god_n gracious_a and_o merciful_a pardon_v iniquity_n transgression_n and_o sin_n here_o alone_o have_v he_o make_v know_v himself_o to_o be_v our_o father_n in_o jesus_n christ_n and_o appoint_v the_o spiritual_a worship_n of_o himself_o that_o may_v prepare_v we_o for_o the_o eternal_a enjoyment_n of_o he_o in_o glory_n so_o that_o now_o we_o see_v what_o be_v mean_v by_o the_o name_n of_o god_n his_o title_n as_o we_o either_o by_o the_o work_v of_o god_n or_o by_o his_o word_n let_v we_o in_o the_o next_o place_n inquire_v what_o it_o be_v to_o hallow_v this_o name_n of_o god_n to_o hallow_n be_v nothing_o else_o but_o to_o sanctify_v or_o make_v holy_a so_o that_o hallow_a be_v thy_o name_n be_v no_o other_o than_o let_v thy_o name_n be_v make_v holy_a but_o here_o may_v be_v a_o question_n how_o can_v creature_n be_v say_v to_o make_v god_n holy_a whereas_o it_o be_v god_n that_o make_v they_o holy_a i_o answer_v there_o be_v a_o threefold_a way_n of_o hallow_v or_o sanctify_v a_o thing_n or_o shut_v up_o himself_o therefore_o in_o the_o body_n of_o a_o serpent_n question_v with_o eve_n about_o god_n command_n persuade_v she_o of_o the_o desirableness_n of_o the_o forbid_a fruit_n tell_v soul_n of_o wicked_a man_n be_v so_o call_v matth._n 12.29_o he_o be_v by_o lust_n let_v into_o the_o very_a inmost_a recess_n and_o retirement_n of_o the_o heart_n and_o can_v now_o propound_v startle_v we_o but_o can_v not_o burn_v we_o and_o thus_o though_o our_o saviour_n christ_n be_v grievous_o tempt_v yet_o it_o be_v say_v joh._n 14.30_o the_o prince_n of_o this_o world_n come_v and_o have_v nothing_o in_o i_o that_o be_v the_o devil_n can_v find_v no_o sin_n or_o corruption_n in_o he_o and_o therefore_o can_v fasten_v none_o of_o his_o temptation_n upon_o he_o thus_o we_o see_v
