convenient_a and_o good_a the_o scripture_n to_o be_v read_v of_o all_o sort_n and_o kind_n of_o people_n and_o in_o the_o vulgar_a tongue_n without_o further_a allegation_n or_o probation_n for_o the_o same_o which_o shall_v not_o need_v since_o that_o this_o one_o place_n of_o john_n chrysostome_n be_v enough_o and_o sufficient_a to_o persuade_v all_o they_o that_o be_v not_o froward_o and_o i_o must_v needs_o judge_v not_o only_o foolish_a froward_a and_o obstinate_a but_o also_o peevish_a perverse_a and_o indurate_a and_o yet_o if_o the_o matter_n shall_v be_v try_v by_o custom_n we_o may_v also_o allege_v custom_n for_o the_o read_n of_o the_o scripture_n in_o the_o vulgar_a tongue_n and_o prescribe_v the_o more_o ancient_a custom_n for_o it_o be_v not_o much_o above_o one_o hundred_o year_n ago_o since_o scripture_n have_v not_o be_v accustom_v to_o be_v read_v in_o the_o vulgar_a tongue_n within_o this_o realm_n &_o many_o hundred_o year_n before_o that_o it_o be_v translate_v &_o read_v in_o the_o saxon_n tongue_n which_o at_o that_o time_n be_v our_o mother_n tongue_n whereof_o there_o remain_v yet_o diverse_a copy_n find_v late_o in_o old_a abbey_n of_o such_o antique_a manner_n of_o writing_n &_o speak_v that_o few_o man_n now_o be_v able_a to_o read_v and_o understande_v they_o and_o when_o this_o language_n wax_v old_a and_o out_o of_o common_a to_o be_v have_v and_o read_v of_o the_o lay_n and_o vulgar_a people_n and_o to_o this_o question_n i_o intend_v here_o to_o say_v nothing_o but_o that_o be_v speak_v and_o write_v by_o the_o noble_a doctor_n and_o most_o moral_a divine_a saint_n john_n chrysostome_n in_o his_o third_o sermon_n de_fw-fr lazaro_n albeit_o i_o will_v be_v something_o short_a and_o gather_v the_o matter_n into_o few_o word_n and_o less_o room_n than_o he_o do_v there_o because_o i_o will_v not_o be_v tedious_a he_o exhort_v there_o his_o audience_n that_o every_o man_n shall_v read_v by_o himself_o at_o i_o be_o a_o man_n of_o the_o world_n it_o be_v not_o for_o i_o to_o read_v the_o scripture_n that_o belong_v to_o they_o that_o have_v bid_v the_o world_n farewell_n which_o live_v in_o solitariness_n and_o contemplation_n and_o have_v be_v bring_v up_o and_o continual_o nousel_v in_o learning_n and_o religion_n to_o this_o answer_v what_o say_v thou_o man_n say_v he_o be_v it_o not_o for_o thou_o to_o study_v and_o to_o read_v the_o scripture_n because_o thou_o be_v encumber_a and_o distract_v with_o care_n and_o business_n so_o much_o the_o more_o it_o be_v behooveful_a for_o thou_o to_o have_v defence_n of_o scripture_n how_o much_o thou_o be_v the_o more_o distress_a in_o worldly_a danger_n they_o that_o be_v free_a and_o far_o from_o trouble_n and_o intermeddle_v of_o worldly_a thing_n live_v in_o safeguard_n and_o tranquillity_n and_o in_o the_o calm_a or_o within_o a_o sure_a haven_n thou_o be_v in_o the_o midst_n of_o the_o sea_n of_o worldly_a wickedness_n and_o therefore_o thou_o need_v the_o more_o of_o ghostly_a succour_n and_o comfort_n they_o sit_v far_o from_o the_o stroke_n of_o battle_n and_o far_o out_o of_o gun_n shot_n and_o therefore_o they_o be_v but_o seldom_o wound_v thou_o that_o stand_v in_o the_o forefront_n
