heart_n so_o cold_a in_o their_o prayer_n and_o appetite_n so_o little_a to_o the_o word_n and_o so_o unprofitable_a under_o it_o how_o shall_v a_o man_n hear_v so_o much_o and_o profit_v so_o little_a if_o a_o man_n aid_n digest_v the_o word_n and_o be_v it_o not_o a_o common_a complaint_n of_o christian_n how_o much_o they_o hear_v and_o how_o little_a they_o profit_n yea_o and_o will_v life_n into_o their_o spirit_n answ_n it_o be_v true_a many_o time_n god_n servant_n be_v very_o cold_a and_o benumb_v and_o a_o cold_a spirit_n grow_v upon_o they_o exceed_o so_o as_o that_o they_o scarce_o feel_v any_o life_n breathe_v in_o their_o knowledge_n or_o prayer_n or_o appetite_n to_o the_o word_n or_o love_n to_o their_o brethren_n little_a warmth_n in_o any_o of_o these_o partly_o through_o want_n of_o supply_v the_o life_n of_o god_n grace_n with_o fit_a nourishment_n whereby_o the_o heart_n shall_v grow_v warm_a as_o natural_a fire_n if_o it_o be_v not_o supply_v with_o new_a fuel_n it_o will_v go_v out_o and_o partly_o sometime_o by_o pour_v cold_a water_n upon_o it_o which_o be_v as_o much_o as_o in_o we_o lie_v to_o damp_n the_o fire_n and_o we_o do_v power_n cold_a water_n upon_o this_o life_n of_o grace_n when_o we_o admit_v of_o any_o sinful_a lust_n in_o our_o soul_n those_o do_v marvellous_o eat_v out_o all_o that_o life_n and_o heat_n of_o spirit_n that_o sometime_o we_o have_v in_o our_o heart_n and_o sometime_o by_o a_o excessive_a use_n of_o worldly_a thing_n which_o without_o a_o very_a spiritual_a mind_n do_v clog_v the_o soul_n as_o much_o as_o if_o you_o shall_v throw_v cold_a water_n upon_o a_o fire_n it_o will_v damp_n it_o very_o much_o so_o be_v this_o case_n man_n sometime_o walk_v in_o worldly_a business_n with_o worldly_a affection_n and_o sometime_o give_v leave_n to_o distemper_a lust_n and_o sometime_o neglect_v to_o put_v any_o fuel_n to_o the_o fire_n of_o grace_n but_o as_o soon_o as_o ever_o they_o find_v the_o heart_n well_o warm_v with_o some_o good_a sermon_n or_o a_o good_a prayer_n or_o conference_n or_o the_o like_a they_o think_v this_o fire_n will_v never_o go_v out_o and_o so_o they_o begin_v to_o neglect_v it_o and_o so_o either_o the_o fire_n go_v quit_v out_o or_o else_o be_v so_o damp_a as_o that_o you_o can_v discern_v no_o life_n no_o savour_n or_o power_n of_o religion_n there_o and_o therefore_o such_o a_o thing_n may_v befall_v god_n servant_n they_o may_v grow_v dull_a heart_a one_o way_n or_o other_o as_o you_o have_v hear_v but_o yet_o thus_o much_o let_v i_o say_v though_o this_o from_o they_o upon_o that_o occasion_n and_o so_o though_o it_o leave_v the_o outward_a man_n sad_a yet_o there_o be_v something_o in_o the_o heart_n though_o full_a of_o doubt_v through_o unbelief_n what_o this_o christ_n be_v and_o what_o this_o will_v come_v to_o we_o hope_v this_o be_v he_o that_o shall_v redeem_v israel_n etc._n etc._n then_o christ_n begin_v to_o put_v a_o little_a warmth_n into_o they_o by_o say_v ought_v not_o christ_n to_o suffer_v these_o thing_n v._o 24_o 25._o and_o so_o he_o open_v to_o they_o the_o scripture_n speak_v of_o himself_o and_o these_o word_n put_v new_a life_n into_o they_o and_o do_v blow_v up_o the_o spirit_n and_o heat_n of_o that_o decay_a life_n which_o be_v overwhelm_v with_o grief_n and_o care_n their_o heart_n be_v heat_v yet_o so_o that_o take_v you_o a_o christian_a man_n when_o he_o be_v even_o in_o the_o most_o disorder_v framelook_v how_o much_o he_o have_v lose_v of_o his_o spiritual_a heat_n so_o much_o of_o his_o true_a life_n if_o he_o have_v leave_v to_o be_v warm_a so_o much_o life_n have_v he_o lose_v and_o if_o his_o warmth_n be_v smother_v his_o life_n be_v smother_v for_o the_o present_a and_o even_o as_o life_n will_v show_v itself_o in_o the_o very_a sad_a face_n of_o the_o heart_n and_o dejection_n of_o spirit_n that_o they_o fall_v into_o and_o sometime_o in_o the_o deep_a sigh_n and_o groan_n of_o the_o heart_n which_o in_o such_o a_o case_n it_o sometime_o will_v break_v forth_o into_o so_o a_o christian_a soul_n when_o his_o heat_n be_v most_o damp_a there_o be_v a_o sad_a face_n in_o his_o spirit_n that_o he_o discern_v all_o be_v not_o well_o with_o he_o his_o spirit_n be_v benumb_v &_o his_o heart_n in_o his_o own_o thought_n be_v freeze_v within_o he_o it_o be_v a_o burden_n to_o he_o and_o a_o matter_n of_o sadness_n to_o his_o spirit_n and_o therefore_o he_o do_v express_v himself_o sometime_o with_o many_o sad_a and_o deep_a sigh_n and_o groan_n about_o his_o forlorn_a and_o lose_v estate_n and_o yet_o sometime_o you_o shall_v have_v his_o heart_n even_o then_o when_o his_o heart_n be_v most_o cold_a which_o be_v worse_o than_o the_o former_a for_o you_o shall_v the_o gospel_n of_o god_n preach_v the_o righteousness_n of_o god_n be_v reveal_v from_o faith_n to_o faith_n to_o lead_v on_o believer_n to_o believe_v and_o not_o to_o rest_v grow_v in_o believe_v it_o for_o so_o far_o as_o a_o man_n believe_v and_o yet_o be_v doubtful_a of_o it_o he_o have_v little_a comfort_n and_o joy_n in_o his_o faith_n and_o therefore_o the_o apostle_n will_v have_v they_o further_v in_o their_o joy_n that_o their_o faith_n may_v be_v a_o joyful_a faith_n such_o as_o where_o in_o they_o may_v have_v comfort_n and_o may_v be_v joyful_a for_o that_o they_o have_v receive_v faith_n and_o fourthly_a faith_n have_v need_n be_v increase_v in_o respect_n of_o the_o act_n the_o proper_a act_n of_o faith_n which_o be_v chief_o persuasion_n and_o trust_n upon_o the_o in_o respect_n of_o our_o everlasting_a estate_n so_o we_o shall_v find_v this_o further_a benefit_n that_o if_o we_o see_v any_o brother_n which_o have_v sin_v a_o sin_n that_o be_v not_o unto_o death_n not_o a_o deadly_a sin_n that_o be_v not_o the_o sin_n against_o the_o holy_a ghost_n so_o mighty_a and_o prevalent_a shall_v our_o prayer_n be_v with_o god_n that_o in_o case_n we_o believe_v on_o the_o name_n of_o christ_n and_o ask_v pardon_n of_o sin_n for_o our_o brother_n offence_n god_n will_v give_v he_o life_n so_o that_o if_o we_o believe_v on_o his_o name_n our_o prayer_n shall_v be_v hear_v and_o they_o have_v a_o prevail_a power_n with_o god_n to_o obtain_v at_o his_o hand_n the_o pardon_n of_o all_o our_o brother_n sin_n that_o have_v not_o sin_v unto_o death_n the_o shall_v find_v acceptance_n according_a to_o our_o will_n notable_a be_v that_o speech_n of_o encouragement_n and_o acceptance_n of_o our_o saviour_n to_o the_o woman_n of_o syrophenitia_n matth._n 15.28_o o_o woman_n great_a be_v thy_o faith_n be_v it_o unto_o thou_o even_o as_o thou_o will_v she_o have_v pray_v as_o christ_n will_v according_a to_o god_n will_v and_o she_o receive_v answer_v we_o see_v what_o it_o be_v to_o pray_v according_a to_o god_n will_v and_o then_o second_o what_o be_v the_o ground_n of_o the_o point_n for_o the_o first_o to_o pray_v according_a to_o god_n will_v thing_n to_o pray_v according_a to_o god_n will_v in_o two_o thing_n be_v contain_v in_o that_o phrase_n and_o yet_o divers_a thing_n beside_o those_o be_v comprehend_v in_o it_o first_o when_o he_o say_v according_a to_o his_o will_n it_o imply_v first_o that_o we_o pray_v for_o such_o thing_n as_o god_n will_v such_o thing_n as_o be_v not_o according_a to_o his_o secret_a will_n for_o so_o we_o can_v guide_v our_o action_n for_o secret_a thing_n belong_v to_o the_o lord_n our_o god_n but_o of_o thing_n reveal_v it_o be_v according_a to_o his_o reveal_v will_n and_o it_o imply_v that_o we_o shall_v ask_v he_o nothing_o but_o what_o he_o give_v we_o commandment_n to_o ask_v all_o that_o he_o command_v we_o to_o do_v as_o to_o ask_v that_o we_o may_v ask_v and_o for_o that_o we_o be_v to_o pray_v for_o express_o as_o for_o the_o glory_n of_o his_o name_n the_o come_n of_o his_o kingdom_n and_o the_o build_n up_o of_o his_o grace_n in_o any_o the_o do_v of_o god_n will_v for_o our_o daily_a bread_n etc._n etc._n these_o be_v the_o thing_n he_o have_v give_v we_o warrant_n to_o pray_v for_o second_o according_a to_o god_n will_v this_o be_v evident_a that_o whatsoever_o we_o ask_v we_o shall_v ask_v it_o with_o submission_n to_o the_o will_n of_o god_n so_o our_o saviour_n
as_o whereby_o a_o man_n be_v 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d a_o heart_n and_o a_o heart_n he_o have_v a_o mind_n to_o draw_v near_o to_o christ_n and_o to_o become_v a_o servant_n of_o christ_n and_o be_v save_v from_o that_o which_o he_o fear_v that_o though_o he_o do_v drink_v of_o the_o cup_n yet_o he_o shall_v be_v save_v from_o be_v overwhelm_v by_o those_o fear_n which_o his_o soul_n tremble_v at_o and_o groan_v under_o and_o press_v he_o heavy_o even_o unto_o the_o very_a death_n though_o not_o from_o taste_v of_o they_o yet_o from_o be_v overwhelm_v of_o they_o and_o he_o be_v displeasure_n he_o shall_v not_o go_v over_o and_o yet_o in_o mercy_n he_o answer_v his_o request_n for_o his_o desire_n be_v to_o see_v that_o good_a land_n now_o god_n can_v make_v he_o see_v that_o good_a land_n &_o never_o carry_v he_o over_o jordan_n and_o he_o show_v he_o all_o the_o land_n of_o canaan_n all_o the_o coast_n of_o israel_n from_o the_o one_o end_n thereof_o to_o another_o god_n so_o strengthen_v his_o sight_n this_o way_n as_o one_o will_v not_o have_v think_v it_o credible_a but_o that_o god_n be_v able_a to_o grant_v he_o his_o desire_n and_o strengthen_v he_o beyond_o
