that_o have_v any_o acquaintance_n with_o their_o own_o heart_n to_o be_v humble_a to_o suffer_v any_o outward_a meanness_n to_o be_v willing_a to_o suffer_v any_o thing_n that_o may_v make_v they_o low_o outward_o why_o because_o of_o the_o great_a mercy_n of_o god_n to_o conceal_v from_o man_n what_o evil_a be_v in_o they_o thou_o be_v loath_a to_o suffer_v some_o outward_a affliction_n but_o if_o god_n shall_v discover_v to_o all_o the_o world_n all_o that_o evil_a that_o be_v in_o thou_o and_o that_o thou_o be_v conscious_a to_o thyself_o of_o yea_o take_v the_o best_a man_n and_o that_o and_o rejoice_v in_o that_o while_o in_o the_o mean_a time_n his_o conscience_n tell_v he_o that_o he_o have_v a_o base_a heart_n a_o proud_a spirit_n a_o empty_a heart_n and_o a_o dead_a come_v near_o to_o he_o and_o â—he_v lord_n reveal_v his_o displeasure_n against_o you_o and_o expect_v your_o heart_n shall_v melt_v before_o he_o and_o you_o harden_v your_o heart_n you_o gather_v those_o thought_n together_o that_o may_v harden_v your_o heart_n oh_o this_o be_v the_o pride_n of_o thy_o heart_n the_o lord_n look_v upon_o thou_o as_o a_o desperate_a proud_a heart_n that_o example_n of_o hezekiah_n but_o hezekiah_n render_v not_o according_a to_o the_o benefit_n do_v unto_o he_o for_o his_o heart_n be_v lift_v up_o verse_n 26._o notwithstanding_o hezekiah_n humble_v hold_v forth_o the_o glory_n and_o excellency_n of_o his_o grace_n humility_n may_v say_v but_o little_a of_o its_o own_o praise_n god_n take_v care_n for_o the_o glory_n of_o it_o it_o will_v discover_v itself_o by_o the_o fragrancy_n of_o itself_o as_o violet_n discover_v themselves_o by_o the_o sweetness_n of_o they_o though_o they_o be_v cover_v with_o leave_n so_o the_o excellency_n of_o humility_n will_v discover_v itself_o by_o its_o sweetness_n and_o no_o man_n or_o woman_n needs_o to_o take_v care_n for_o the_o discovery_n of_o its_o excellency_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v abundant_a folly_n for_o a_o man_n or_o woman_n to_o be_v proud_a of_o their_o humility_n or_o to_o show_v themselves_o humble_a that_o other_o may_v take_v notice_n of_o it_o and_o so_o commend_v quiet_a in_o thy_o spirit_n and_o thou_o find_v that_o the_o more_o that_o ease_n and_o quiet_a increase_v the_o more_o fruitful_a thou_o be_v in_o all_o good_a work_n it_o make_v thou_o the_o more_o the_o power_n of_o god_n grace_n that_o do_v overcome_v his_o corruption_n i_o find_v a_o stir_n in_o my_o heart_n but_o i_o thank_v god_n i_o can_v get_v the_o victory_n the_o ease_n of_o a_o godly_a heart_n come_v from_o the_o victory_n that_o it_o get_v but_o it_o be_v not_o so_o with_o a_o carnal_a heart_n your_o civil_a man_n do_v not_o find_v ease_n from_o their_o victory_n because_o what_o whatsoever_o christ_n be_v most_o eminent_a in_o that_o he_o do_v most_o eminent_o please_v the_o father_n now_o of_o any_o virtue_n that_o the_o scripture_n note_n christ_n be_v most_o eminent_a in_o that_o we_o shall_v be_v willing_a to_o bear_v affliction_n and_o trouble_n and_o deny_v ourselves_o in_o our_o comfort_n and_o the_o like_a but_o to_o be_v make_v sin_n god_n never_o put_v his_o creature_n to_o this_o to_o be_v in_o such_o a_o low_a condition_n for_o he_o that_o the_o creature_n shall_v be_v willing_a to_o be_v make_v sin_n no_o not_o for_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n he_o never_o put_v that_o to_o we_o that_o he_o do_v put_v christ_n to_o god_n never_o put_v we_o to_o this_o that_o we_o shall_v be_v willing_a to_o take_v the_o guilt_n of_o any_o man_n sin_n upon_o we_o to_o stand_v before_o the_o lord_n to_o answer_v for_o the_o sin_n of_o another_o man_n but_o this_o be_v put_v upon_o christ_n he_o must_v take_v the_o guilt_n of_o all_o the_o sin_n in_o the_o world_n upon_o he_o of_o the_o elect_n the_o world_n of_o elect_a upon_o he_o and_o must_v stand_v charge_v withal_o and_o that_o before_o his_o father_n here_o be_v a_o low_a condition_n again_o god_n do_v not_o require_v that_o of_o we_o that_o he_o do_v of_o he_o that_o be_v that_o we_o shall_v be_v willing_a to_o bear_v the_o wrath_n of_o god_n that_o we_o shall_v be_v willing_a that_o this_o low_a condition_n but_o the_o lord_n never_o require_v this_o at_o our_o hand_n to_o be_v put_v into_o such_o a_o low_a condition_n as_o this_o be_v yea_o further_n christ_n have_v god_n the_o father_n withdraw_v himself_o from_o he_o and_o forsake_v of_o he_o when_o he_o be_v low_a and_o when_o god_n put_v we_o into_o a_o low_a condition_n we_o have_v usual_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n more_o comfortable_o and_o more_o glorious_a with_o we_o then_o ever_o and_o we_o may_v expect_v it_o at_o that_o time_n when_o we_o be_v put_v into_o the_o low_a condition_n for_o god_n that_o we_o shall_v have_v the_o most_o glorious_a presence_n of_o god_n with_o we_o and_o god_n will_v encourage_v we_o to_o be_v lowly_a upon_o that_o ground_n because_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n and_o glory_n shall_v then_o rest_v most_o upon_o we_o but_o now_o christ_n he_o know_v that_o when_o he_o shall_v be_v put_v into_o the_o low_a condition_n that_o then_o god_n the_o father_n will_v withdraw_v himself_o from_o he_o that_o then_o he_o shall_v have_v least_o of_o his_o presence_n that_o then_o god_n will_v leave_v he_o in_o that_o low_a condition_n we_o be_v not_o put_v upon_o this_o yea_o the_o least_o thing_n that_o christ_n suffer_v be_v a_o thousand_o thousand_o time_n more_o than_o the_o great_a thing_n that_o we_o can_v suffer_v yet_o christ_n be_v call_v to_o be_v in_o a_o low_a condition_n and_o be_v willing_a to_o be_v so_o then_o ever_o god_n call_v we_o to_o be_v now_o be_v there_o not_o a_o great_a strength_n in_o this_o argument_n if_o it_o be_v only_o thus_o if_o christ_n shall_v say_v there_o be_v reason_n you_o shall_v be_v as_o i_o be_v low_o as_o i_o be_v low_a as_o we_o read_v of_o rebecca_n when_o she_o be_v come_v unto_o isaac_n and_o she_o see_v he_o low_a as_o i_o be_v in_o some_o little_a thing_n but_o for_o the_o great_a thing_n wherein_o i_o be_v make_v low_a i_o will_v never_o put_v you_o to_o this_o now_o there_o be_v a_o great_a strength_n of_o argument_n in_o this_o when_o as_o christ_n propound_v to_o we_o his_o example_n that_o in_o that_o example_n he_o do_v not_o require_v we_o shall_v be_v so_o low_a as_o he_o be_v chap._n cxxii_o the_o ground_n of_o humility_n a_o knowledge_n and_o sense_n of_o our_o own_o vileness_n well_o then_o have_v show_v the_o lowliness_n of_o christ_n and_o the_o force_n of_o his_o example_n let_v we_o now_o come_v to_o show_v how_o we_o shall_v be_v lowly_a in_o heart_n and_o that_o according_a to_o the_o description_n that_o we_o give_v of_o lowliness_n of_o heart_n that_o concern_v we_o for_o there_o be_v something_o indeed_o wherein_o we_o be_v to_o be_v lowly_a otherwise_o then_o christ_n be_v capable_a of_o according_a to_o the_o description_n it_o be_v that_o virtue_n whereby_o the_o heart_n behave_v itself_o towards_o god_n and_o itself_o and_o other_o according_a to_o the_o right_n low_a esteem_n it_o have_v of_o itself_o and_o the_o sense_n of_o its_o own_o vileness_n that_o be_v the_o description_n of_o humility_n as_o it_o concern_v we_o now_o than_o here_o observe_v first_o what_o rule_v a_o humble_a heart_n go_v by_o and_o then_o second_o the_o behaviour_n of_o a_o humble_a spirit_n according_a to_o those_o three_o object_n god_n himself_o and_o other_o the_o rule_n that_o a_o humble_a heart_n go_v by_o it_o be_v the_o right_a esteem_n of_o its_o own_o meanness_n and_o sense_n of_o its_o own_o vileness_n that_o be_v the_o first_o thing_n that_o be_v in_o humility_n a_o right_a know_v ourselves_o not_o know_v our_o own_o excellency_n as_o man_n be_v too_o too_o ready_a to_o know_v their_o own_o excellency_n we_o use_v to_o say_v of_o a_o man_n â—uch_v a_o one_o have_v excellent_a part_n and_o he_o know_n it_o himself_o but_o the_o knowledge_n of_o ourselves_o that_o way_n may_v puff_n up_o but_o this_o knowledge_n of_o ourselves_o to_o know_v our_o own_o meanness_n and_o vileness_n and_o wretchedness_n this_o be_v that_o that_o humble_v we_o and_o so_o a_o humble_a heart_n make_v that_o to_o be_v the_o rule_n of_o his_o behaviour_n according_a to_o what_o he_o shall_v have_v make_v know_v to_o he_o of_o his_o own_o meanness_n and_o vileness_n this_o knowledge_n of_o ourselves_o be_v that_o that_o the_o heathen_a do_v commend_v to_o know_v thyself_o it_o be_v a_o great_a maxim_n of_o they_o a_o great_a point_n of_o wisdom_n for_o they_o to_o know_v themselves_o but_o certain_o they_o mean_v especial_o their_o own_o excellency_n but_o a_o christian_a that_o know_n himself_o it_o be_v especial_o to_o know_v thy_o own_o
