both_o moses_n and_o the_o prophet_n direct_v and_o send_v man_n unto_o christ_n but_o that_o they_o rather_o offend_v against_o moses_n which_o disdain_v to_o receive_v christ_n whereas_o moses_n long_v before_o appoint_v that_o such_o as_o they_o be_v shall_v be_v punish_v by_o death_n there_o be_v yet_o one_o other_o stop_n which_o be_v the_o conscience_n of_o that_o sin_n which_o they_o three_o argument_n most_o strong_o confirm_v the_o jew_n faith_n prophet_n first_o he_o admonish_v they_o of_o their_o ancient_a dignity_n and_o of_o their_o elder_n say_v you_o be_v the_o child_n of_o the_o prophet_n that_o be_v to_o say_v you_o come_v of_o that_o people_n or_o nation_n of_o who_o the_o prophet_n come_v or_o rather_o you_o be_v the_o child_n of_o the_o patriarch_n who_o it_o though_o the_o people_n be_v never_o so_o much_o despise_v in_o the_o judgement_n of_o the_o world_n yet_o in_o god_n sight_n they_o be_v very_o dear_a who_o have_v vouchsafe_v to_o redeem_v they_o this_o be_v one_o very_o notable_a that_o fall_v out_o among_o these_o people_n of_o lystra_n for_o paul_n and_o barnabas_n preach_v unto_o they_o the_o gospel_n of_o jesus_n christ_n and_o no_o doubt_n but_o they_o use_v as_o great_a diligence_n in_o preach_v to_o they_o as_o we_o read_v they_o use_v in_o other_o place_n beside_o their_o teach_n they_o show_v a_o miracle_n whereby_o a_o certain_a lame_a man_n be_v through_o the_o name_n and_o power_n of_o christ_n restore_v to_o his_o limb_n again_o and_o so_o be_v it_o declare_v by_o the_o very_a deed_n self_n that_o christ_n be_v such_o a_o one_o as_o the_o apostle_n preach_v he_o be_v that_o be_v to_o say_v a_o most_o mighty_a restorer_n &_o redeemer_n of_o man_n decay_a nature_n but_o what_o prevail_v all_o these_o thing_n with_o the_o man_n of_o lystra_n which_o be_v destitute_a of_o the_o light_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n be_v lead_v with_o the_o blind_a reason_n of_o their_o flesh_n they_o learn_v not_o to_o know_v christ_n hereby_o they_o take_v no_o occasion_n by_o such_o a_o miracle_n to_o glorify_v he_o but_o according_a to_o the_o nature_n and_o property_n of_o man_n take_v hold_v of_o every_o thing_n next_o they_o stick_v only_o in_o the_o apostle_n wonder_v only_o at_o they_o and_o think_v they_o eat_v the_o only_a worker_n of_o the_o miracle_n and_o without_o any_o regard_n have_v unto_o jesus_n christ_n prepare_v godly_a honour_n and_o sacrifice_n for_o they_o and_o it_o have_v be_v a_o tolerable_a thing_n if_o they_o of_o lystra_n only_o who_o custom_n of_o gentile_a superstition_n have_v long_o bewitch_v have_v thus_o offend_v but_o the_o infection_n of_o this_o ensample_n run_v so_o far_o that_o among_o the_o professor_n of_o christ_n name_n the_o chief_a point_n of_o godliness_n and_o religion_n seem_v to_o stand_v in_o like_o worship_v of_o saint_n unto_o who_o by_o reason_n of_o the_o miracle_n wrought_v by_o they_o in_o time_n past_a sick_a person_n prisoner_n man_n in_o danger_n on_o the_o sea_n and_o otherwhere_o use_v to_o make_v their_o prayer_n to_o eâ—eâ—t_a altar_n to_o make_v 〈◊〉_d and_o to_o build_v church_n and_o to_o offer_v all_o kind_n of_o sacrifice_n have_v in_o the_o mean_a season_n little_a or_o no_o regard_n at_o all_o of_o christ_n merit_n in_o who_o only_o the_o apostle_n and_o martyr_n show_v we_o all_o hope_n of_o salvation_n the_o madness_n of_o these_o people_n deserve_v more_o at_o large_a to_o be_v confute_v but_o this_o present_a place_n be_v sufficient_a to_o confute_v they_o where_o it_o be_v declare_v how_o the_o his_o auditor_n great_o and_o by_o his_o example_n teach_v we_o of_o what_o force_n and_o efficacy_n both_o the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o faith_n be_v which_o thing_n shall_v the_o more_o evident_o firm_a and_o stable_a that_o it_o can_v never_o be_v stop_v with_o any_o enterprise_n of_o the_o tyrant_n of_o this_o world_n whereof_o we_o have_v both_o testimony_n and_o example_n every_o where_o judgement_n of_o the_o whole_a nation_n nor_o think_v it_o not_o meet_v to_o have_v more_o consideration_n of_o himself_o than_o of_o public_a justice_n but_o appoint_v to_o hear_v paul_n himself_o and_o first_o offer_v he_o occasion_n and_o leave_v to_o speak_v let_v all_o man_n that_o bear_v office_n follow_v this_o example_n and_o the_o more_o they_o see_v to_o conspire_v against_o any_o man_n the_o more_o diligent_o let_v they_o weigh_v and_o examine_v the_o matter_n least_o by_o their_o bear_n and_o slothfulness_n they_o set_v forward_o other_o man_n maliciousness_n this_o be_v a_o thing_n now_o a_o day_n too_o common_a the_o more_o be_v the_o pity_n that_o king_n and_o prince_n ear_n be_v not_o open_a to_o the_o faithful_a of_o christ_n because_o they_o think_v it_o meet_a to_o hearken_v unto_o bishop_n and_o to_o their_o adherentes_fw-la and_o so_o be_v corrupt_a with_o prejudice_n they_o think_v they_o can_v not_o be_v altogether_o faultless_a who_o the_o spiritualty_n so_o zealous_o and_o earnest_o withstand_v fear_n but_o return_v we_o unto_o paul_n who_o although_o he_o be_v compel_v upon_o the_o sudden_a to_o pleat_n his_o cause_n in_o band_n before_o so_o honourable_a a_o audience_n yet_o he_o put_v out_o his_o hand_n for_o silence_n and_o so_o begin_v his_o sermon_n which_o as_o it_o contain_v in_o it_o all_o thing_n belong_v to_o the_o matter_n so_o it_o show_v no_o manner_n token_n of_o any_o dismay_v or_o trouble_v mind_n where_o we_o may_v see_v both_o the_o truth_n and_o also_o the_o effect_n of_o christ_n promise_n for_o paul_n have_v both_o the_o promise_n general_a and_o also_o a_o peculiar_a whereof_o we_o make_v mention_v in_o the_o beginning_n namely_o that_o he_o shall_v preach_v the_o name_n of_o christ_n before_o king_n and_o prince_n wherefore_o have_v a_o eye_n thereunto_o he_o set_v all_o danger_n at_o naught_o because_o he_o know_v that_o christ_n power_n be_v great_a than_o that_o it_o can_v be_v overcome_v or_o he_o never_o give_v any_o suspicion_n of_o lightness_n or_o impiety_n again_o how_o after_o he_o be_v call_v to_o the_o faith_n of_o christ_n and_o to_o be_v a_o apostle_n he_o neither_o teach_v nor_o do_v any_o thing_n contrary_a to_o the_o scripture_n whereby_o he_o prove_v that_o the_o jew_n hate_v he_o so_o deadly_a without_o his_o desert_n before_o his_o narration_n he_o use_v a_o short_a and_o pretty_a kind_n of_o beginning_n whereby_o he_o go_v about_o to_o get_v the_o king_n favour_n and_o good_a will_n say_v he_o be_v happy_a in_o that_o he_o must_v pleaâ—_n his_o cause_n before_o the_o word_n who_o otherwise_o they_o yet_o hate_v worse_o than_o the_o devil_n oracle_n furthermore_o lest_o paul_n may_v seem_v some_o vain_a trifler_n or_o busy_a body_n he_o allege_v a_o oracle_n they_o sow_v new_a opinion_n and_o reform_v their_o church_n nowbeit_n we_o have_v long_o sithence_o render_v a_o reason_n hereof_o whereof_o they_o be_v not_o ignorant_a therefore_o it_o be_v a_o far_a other_o thing_n than_o the_o desire_n of_o truth_n that_o these_o man_n be_v lead_v with_o nay_o their_o whole_a drift_n and_o fetch_n be_v to_o catch_v some_o occasion_n or_o hold_v of_o some_o word_n which_o may_v unaware_o escape_v we_o to_o accuse_v we_o of_o therefore_o we_o ought_v to_o suspect_v all_o such_o counsel_n and_o device_n and_o as_o christ_n teach_v we_o to_o use_v the_o and_o hinder_v a_o many_o of_o man_n how_o many_o which_o through_o false_a doctrine_n superstition_n blasphemy_n and_o infinite_a other_o wickedness_n have_v provoke_v the_o wrath_n of_o god_n yet_o none_o of_o they_o be_v call_v coram_fw-la neither_o can_v these_o notable_a
