of_o it_o now_o and_o the_o more_o because_o it_o be_v much_o to_o be_v fear_v that_o the_o doctrine_n of_o anabaptism_n especial_o in_o this_o controversy_n concern_v infant_n will_v gangrene_n far_o and_o leaven_n much_o and_o that_o for_o these_o reason_n first_o because_o there_o be_v not_o that_o express_a word_n nor_o such_o manifest_a clearness_n in_o such_o full_a and_o express_a sentence_n of_o the_o scripture_n as_o in_o many_o other_o practical_a point_n for_o the_o practice_n of_o this_o there_o be_v sufficient_a scripture_n to_o satisfy_v a_o sober_a humble_a mind_n that_o love_v the_o truth_n in_o sincerity_n in_o this_o point_n yet_o they_o that_o be_v contentious_a and_o love_v scruple_n and_o question_n a_o disease_n paul_n will_v have_v cure_v 1_o tim._n 1.5_o 6._o will_v be_v always_o touch_v upon_o that_o string_n viz._n where_o be_v your_o commandment_n i_o see_v not_o any_o express_a scripture_n yes_o that_o you_o may_v by_o just_a and_o full_a deduction_n from_o the_o scripture_n and_o that_o be_v a_o good_a proof_n from_o scripture_n or_o else_o our_o saviour_n proof_n of_o the_o resurrection_n be_v bad_a from_z i_o be_o the_o god_n of_o abraham_n isaac_n and_o jacob_n which_o be_v not_o express_o contain_v in_o these_o word_n but_o deduct_v from_o they_o second_o if_o conscience_n and_o experience_n may_v speak_v there_o be_v but_o few_o christian_n that_o have_v taste_v the_o sweet_a and_o comfort_n of_o their_o baptism_n and_o therefore_o be_v very_o apt_a to_o question_v this_o ordinance_n if_o they_o meet_v with_o a_o fit_a tempter_n to_o deceive_v they_o for_o this_o be_v a_o certain_a and_o everlasting_a truth_n viz._n that_o that_o truth_n which_o a_o man_n have_v receive_v without_o love_n to_o it_o by_o some_o sense_n of_o the_o sweetness_n of_o it_o in_o time_n of_o temptation_n he_o will_v quick_o cast_v off_o a_o man_n will_v not_o care_v for_o that_o bread_n that_o do_v not_o feed_v he_o nor_o will_v keep_v on_o those_o clothes_n in_o winter_n time_n that_o do_v not_o warm_v he_o nor_o love_v that_o truth_n which_o do_v not_o refresh_v he_o and_o consequent_o will_v be_v ready_a to_o cut_v down_o that_o barren_a baptism_n under_o who_o covert_n he_o have_v so_o long_o live_v but_o never_o taste_v of_o the_o fruit_n
that_o christ_n shall_v be_v bear_v of_o their_o seed_n after_o the_o flesh_n and_o in_o these_o respect_v they_o stand_v in_o the_o same_o grace_n with_o abraham_n reply_n first_o abraham_n have_v not_o those_o ordinance_n which_o they_o have_v their_o stand_v therefore_o in_o these_o thing_n differ_v second_o these_o be_v not_o all_o the_o respect_n for_o the_o passage_n in_o luke_n 1._o vers_fw-la 54._o speak_v of_o other_o thing_n namely_o remission_n of_o sin_n justification_n and_o sanctification_n in_o a_o word_n do_v not_o christ_n come_v of_o terah_n as_o well_o as_o of_o abraham_n yea_o of_o noah_n sem_fw-mi &_o c_o read_v luke_n 3_o and_o do_v they_o not_o believe_v in_o he_o to_o come_v heb._n 11.7_o and_o how_o can_v any_o exclude_v they_o before_o abraham_n of_o this_o privilege_n yea_o and_o the_o gentile_n also_o with_o they_o before_o the_o time_n of_o distinction_n of_o the_o people_n more_o than_o they_o after_o in_o the_o due_a and_o proper_a consideration_n of_o the_o thing_n itself_o but_o to_o say_v no_o more_o i_o come_v to_o the_o other_o sense_n of_o the_o word_n grace_n and_o do_v and_o do_v intend_v my_o reason_n in_o that_o acceptation_n but_o here_o he_o deny_v that_o ever_o the_o jew_n be_v require_v to_o make_v any_o such_o manifestation_n to_o make_v they_o member_n of_o that_o church_n before_o christ_n as_o all_o jew_n and_o gentile_n since_o must_v do_v to_o make_v they_o member_n of_o a_o church_n now_o reply_n first_o abraham_n and_o his_o male_n make_v such_o a_o protestation_n and_o all_o proselyte_n that_o ever_o after_o join_v without_o which_o they_o have_v not_o be_v member_n as_o have_v no_o other_o relation_n and_o beside_o the_o seal_n shall_v have_v be_v set_v upon_o they_o as_o the_o seal_n of_o the_o righteousness_n of_o faith_n which_o they_o have_v not_o second_o the_o jew_n after_o moses_n time_n be_v require_v first_o and_o last_o to_o make_v such_o manifestation_n of_o we_o now_o shall_v differ_v in_o this_o respect_n that_o there_o be_v not_o such_o a_o manifestation_n of_o faith_n require_v as_o be_v now_o yet_o the_o covenant_n may_v be_v &_o be_v the_o same_o now_o and_o then_o the_o manifestation_n be_v not_o the_o covenant_n but_o a_o circumstance_n about_o the_o covenant_n to_o conclude_v if_o the_o matter_n propound_v in_o all_o these_o three_o period_n not_o exclude_v the_o first_o in_o the_o time_n before_o abraham_n be_v the_o same_o viz._n god_n righteousness_n the_o word_n of_o god_n grace_n and_o the_o gospel_n if_o the_o condition_n require_v of_o all_o be_v the_o same_o viz._n faith_n in_o god_n righteousness_n and_o if_o the_o effect_n be_v the_o same_o in_o all_o that_o do_v believe_v viz._n that_o they_o that_o believe_v be_v by_o christ_n then_o ever_o circumcision_n and_o the_o ordinance_n of_o the_o old_a testament_n do_v declare_v to_o they_o the_o fleshly_a seed_n have_v but_o the_o declaration_n of_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n by_o the_o covenant_n now_o the_o seed_n of_o the_o gentile_n believer_n and_o unbeliever_n be_v make_v partaker_n of_o the_o preach_n of_o the_o gospel_n though_o they_o be_v not_o in_o the_o covenant_n reply_n first_o he_o seem_v to_o oppose_v the_o preach_n of_o the_o gospel_n now_o to_o the_o former_a time_n as_o if_o the_o gospel_n be_v not_o preach_v unto_o they_o all_o that_o time_n for_o in_o this_o passage_n gospel_n now_o preach_v and_o covenant_n then_o be_v a_o direct_a opposition_n and_o so_o in_o the_o next_o branch_n he_o oppose_v circumcision_n and_o the_o ordinance_n of_o the_o old_a testament_n to_o the_o gospel_n preach_v now_o as_o if_o the_o gospel_n preach_v be_v peculiar_a to_o the_o new_a testament_n contrary_a to_o the_o scripture_n second_o i_o affirm_v and_o none_o can_v deny_v that_o there_o be_v not_o any_o point_n of_o doctrine_n hold_v forth_o by_o the_o gospel_n in_o the_o new_a testament_n nor_o any_o grace_n of_o god_n or_o effect_v thereof_o but_o it_o be_v hold_v forth_o then_o in_o the_o old_a though_o more_o dark_o then_o &_o spare_o yet_o the_o same_o in_o both_o and_o therefore_o it_o be_v not_o right_a that_o he_o say_v the_o ordinance_n of_o the_o old_a testament_n do_v not_o make_v so_o full_a a_o declaration_n of_o god_n grace_n as_o the_o gospel_n preach_v now_o do_v unless_o he_o mean_v it_o of_o the_o though_o the_o believe_a seed_n of_o abraham_n have_v the_o grace_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n
thereof_o not_o by_o baptism_n but_o by_o the_o covenant_n be_v eternal_a to_o all_o the_o elect_a and_o so_o he_o that_o believe_v in_o christ_n shall_v never_o die_v but_o these_o be_v not_o eternal_a to_o any_o else_o at_o all_o for_o reprobate_a member_n die_v remain_v not_o member_n etc._n etc._n so_o that_o here_o be_v nothing_o in_o this_o answer_n that_o prove_v the_o jew_n be_v not_o a_o church-estate_n by_o a_o act_v covenant_n second_o he_o answer_v the_o covenant_n be_v a_o ground_n of_o a_o church_n be_v a_o visible_a church_n that_o the_o visible_a participation_n in_o the_o covenant_n be_v by_o some_o visible_a thing_n which_o be_v circumcision_n then_o be_v baptism_n now_o other_o visible_a participation_n there_o be_v not_o nor_o be_v any_o therefore_o by_o circumcision_n then_o and_o baptism_n now_o they_o be_v a_o visible_a church_n and_o as_o the_o take_v away_o of_o the_o covenant_n cause_v the_o church_n to_o cease_v so_o it_o cause_v their_o circumcision_n and_o baptism_n to_o cease_v also_o whereby_o they_o have_v visible_a participation_n in_o the_o covenant_n and_o church_n reply_n first_o he_o say_v a_o covenant_n be_v the_o ground_n but_o a_o visible_a sign_n and_o seal_v of_o his_o visible_a participation_n and_o this_o appear_v further_a from_o the_o description_n of_o a_o sacrament_n a_o outward_a and_o visible_a sign_n of_o away_o before_o the_o church_n cease_v to_o be_v a_o church_n and_o not_o circumcision_n nor_o baptism_n which_o can_v cease_v until_o the_o church_n cease_v all_o which_o himself_o grant_v so_o as_o long_o as_o any_o continue_v visible_a profession_n of_o faith_n so_o long_o the_o covenant_n continue_v and_o visible_a profession_n must_v cease_v before_o the_o covenant_n cease_v in_o respect_n of_o man_n ergo_fw-la by_o visible_a profession_n of_o faith_n in_o the_o covenant_n be_v obtain_v and_o declare_v visible_a participation_n in_o the_o covenant_n and_o so_o be_v the_o church-estate_n constitute_v thereby_o further_o he_o say_v the_o covenant_n before_o christ_n do_v ceremonial_o lead_v to_o christ_n and_o in_o that_o respect_n be_v dissolve_v and_o circumcision_n by_o which_o affirm_v in_o my_o three_o proposition_n and_o four_o poriod_n and_o so_o baptism_n by_o which_o they_o have_v true_a visible_a be_v in_o the_o covenant_n can_v be_v remove_v nor_o the_o visible_a church-state_n reply_n here_o be_v nothing_o say_v that_o have_v not_o be_v say_v before_o again_o and_o again_o and_o so_o answer_v yet_o in_o a_o word_n first_o he_o confound_v covenant_n and_o testament_n there_o be_v but_o one_o covenant_n but_o yet_o two_o testament_n and_o the_o covenant_n be_v dispense_v to_o abraham_n before_o there_o be_v any_o testament_n institute_v and_o the_o scripture_n that_o speak_v of_o abolish_n the_o old_a and_o establish_v the_o new_a be_v not_o to_o be_v understand_v of_o two_o covenant_n there_o be_v but_o one_o but_o of_o two_o testament_n as_o lead_v to_o christ_n and_o be_v abolish_v at_o christ_n come_n that_o the_o new_a confirm_v by_o his_o blood_n may_v be_v establish_v three_o the_o covenant_n and_o visible_a church-state_n thereby_o do_v not_o cease_v at_o christ_n come_v in_o itself_o but_o be_v take_v away_o from_o the_o jew_n and_o give_v to_o the_o gentile_n and_o that_o not_o because_o the_o covenant_n and_o church-estate_n show_v before_o that_o circumcision_n do_v not_o give_v they_o a_o visible_a be_v in_o that_o covenant_n and_o church-estate_n nor_o baptism_n we_o but_o outward_a profession_n of_o subjection_n to_o the_o covenant_n give_v they_o and_o give_v we_o a_o be_v in_o the_o covenant_n and_o visible_a church-state_n circumcision_n then_o and_o baptism_n now_o be_v but_o sign_n and_o seal_n of_o it_o further_o against_o his_o conclusion_n that_o the_o true_a visible_a church_n in_o respect_n of_o the_o ground_n of_o it_o can_v be_v remove_v or_o dissolve_v he_o put_v two_o exception_n and_o seek_v to_o clear_v it_o from_o they_o the_o first_o be_v this_o the_o true_a church_n may_v possible_o die_v and_o none_o survive_v they_o in_o that_o estate_n ergo_fw-la the_o true_a church_n may_v cease_v participation_n with_o the_o body_n of_o christ_n therefore_o the_o exception_n hinder_v not_o but_o that_o the_o true_a visible_a church_n remain_v undissolved_a reply_n whether_o this_o be_v i_o baptise_v of_o infant_n prevent_v the_o baptise_v of_o man_n of_o year_n where_o any_o such_o be_v convert_v from_o paganism_n to_o christianity_n no_o more_o than_o circumcise_n infant_n of_o old_a
