illuminate_v not_o only_o by_o learn_v the_o literal_a knowledge_n of_o the_o gospel_n as_o man_n learn_v philosophy_n but_o also_o may_v attain_v to_o some_o supernatural_a light_n by_o the_o common_a illumination_n of_o the_o spirit_n and_o may_v understand_v many_o profound_a mystery_n of_o the_o gospel_n yet_o remember_v knowledge_n puff_v up_o they_o may_v have_v know_v head_n but_o graceless_a heart_n note_v from_o hence_o doct._n 2._o that_o it_o be_v a_o high_a privilege_n and_o a_o attainment_n for_o man_n to_o be_v enlighten_v with_o the_o knowledge_n of_o the_o gospel_n yet_o nevertheless_o man_n may_v attain_v to_o much_o light_n therein_o and_o yet_o not_o be_v save_o enlighten_v but_o may_v final_o fall_v away_o and_o perish_v notwithstanding_o at_o last_o first_o i_o shall_v show_v you_o what_o the_o common_a illumination_n of_o the_o spirit_n be_v that_o man_n may_v fall_v from_o second_o shall_v show_v you_o what_o the_o save_a and_o special_a illumination_n of_o the_o spirit_n be_v and_o how_o they_o differ_v 1_o sy_n common_a enlightning_n of_o the_o word_n and_o spirit_n may_v tend_v spirit_n to_o convince_v the_o conscience_n of_o a_o sinner_n of_o sin_n 1._o as_o to_o the_o horrid_a gild_n thereof_o as_o it_o expose_v the_o soul_n to_o god_n wrath_n thus_o be_v judas_n enlighten_v his_o conscience_n be_v convince_v that_o he_o have_v betray_v the_o innocent_a blood_n thus_o also_o felix_n be_v enlighten_v under_o paul_n preach_v 2._o from_o these_o conviction_n they_o may_v also_o with_o much_o horror_n confess_v their_o sin_n cain_n judas_n and_o many_o other_o do_v this_o 3._o from_o these_o illumination_n and_o conviction_n they_o may_v reform_v their_o life_n and_o do_v many_o thing_n like_v as_o herod_n do_v upon_o his_o hear_n john_n the_o baptist_n 4._o nay_o common_a illumination_n may_v discover_v to_o the_o sinner_n much_o of_o that_o evil_a that_o there_o be_v in_o sin_n that_o god_n abhor_v it_o and_o that_o it_o be_v contrary_a to_o his_o nature_n as_o well_o as_o a_o violation_n of_o his_o holy_a law_n and_o this_o light_n they_o may_v receive_v from_o what_o god_n declare_v concern_v sin_n and_o of_o his_o abhorrence_n of_o it_o in_o his_o word_n as_o also_o by_o those_o fearful_a judgement_n which_o he_o inflict_v upon_o and_o pronounce_v against_o such_o that_o sin_n live_v in_o sin_n and_o make_v a_o trade_n of_o it_o likewise_o by_o the_o knowledge_n they_o may_v attain_v concern_v christ_n suffering_n for_o sin_n and_o by_o the_o punishment_n of_o the_o damn_a in_o hell_n and_o no_o doubt_n but_o the_o devil_n know_v the_o great_a evil_n of_o sin_n in_o all_o these_o respect_n but_o pray_v observe_v that_o although_o these_o person_n may_v know_v that_o sin_n be_v against_o god_n contrary_a to_o his_o holy_a nature_n and_o that_o he_o do_v abhor_v it_o yet_o this_o light_n and_o knowledge_n they_o have_v never_o bring_v they_o to_o loath_a and_o abhor_v it_o in_o themselves_o because_o of_o the_o evil_a nature_n of_o it_o and_o as_o it_o be_v against_o god_n 2_o dly_z they_o also_o by_o these_o common_a illumination_n may_v come_v to_o know_v that_o god_n be_v man_n chief_a good_a the_o heathen_a find_v this_o out_o by_o the_o light_n of_o nature_n consider_v in_o themselves_o that_o nothing_o in_o this_o world_n can_v satisfy_v the_o soul_n etc._n etc._n but_o these_o person_n attain_v unto_o a_o far_a sight_n and_o knowledge_n of_o it_o by_o the_o word_n in_o a_o supernatural_a manner_n but_o yet_o remember_v that_o the_o light_n they_o have_v never_o lead_v they_o to_o make_v choice_n of_o god_n as_o their_o chief_a good_a and_o only_a happiness_n 3_o dly_z they_o may_v attain_v unto_o the_o knowledge_n of_o all_o the_o great_a and_o essential_a principle_n of_o the_o christian_a religion_n and_o be_v able_a to_o dispute_v and_o contend_v for_o they_o also_o against_o opposer_n nay_o may_v be_v able_a preacher_n of_o that_o holy_a doctrine_n have_v we_o not_o prophesy_v in_o thy_o 22._o name_n etc._n etc._n no_o doubt_n but_o judas_n be_v a_o great_a preacher_n as_o well_o as_o peter_n yet_o observe_v and_o note_v it_o well_o they_o may_v be_v utter_a stranger_n to_o that_o grace_n faith_n love_n and_o regeneration_n which_o they_o may_v open_v explain_v and_o press_v upon_o other_o
