their eyes CHAP. VIII 1 At the opening of the seventh seal 2 seven angels had seven trumpets given them 6 Four of them sound their trumpets and great plagues follow 3 Another angel putteth incense to the prayers of the saints on the golden altar ANd when he had opened the seventh seal there was silence in heaven about the space of half an hour 2 And I saw the seven angels which stood before God and to them were given seven trumpets 3 And another angel came and stood at the alter having a golden censer and there was given unto him much incense that he should ‖ Or add it to the prayâ—â—â— offer it with the prayers of all saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne 4 And the smoke of the incense which came with the prayers of the saints ascended up before God out of the angels hand 5 And the angel took the censer and filled it with fire of the altar and cast it into the earth and there were voices and thundrings and lightnings and an earthquake 6 And the seven angels which had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound 7 The first angel sounded and there followed hail and fire mingled with bloud and they were cast upon the earth and the third part of trees was burnt up and all green grass was burnt up 8 And the second angel sounded and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea and the third part of the sea became bloud 9 And the third part of the creatures which were in the sea and had life died and the third part of the ships were destroyed 10 And the third angel sounded and there fell a great star from heaven burning as it were a lamp and it fell upon the third part of the rivers and upon the fountains of waters 11 And the name of the star is called Woormwood and the third part of the waters became woormwood and many men died of the waters because they were made bitter 12 And the fourth angel sounded and the third part of the sun was smitten and the third part of the moon and the third part of the stars so as the third part of them was darkned and the day shone not for a third part of it and the night likewise 13 And I behold and heard an angel flying through the midst of heaven saying with a loud voice Wo wo wo to the inhabiters of the earth by reason of the other voices of the trumpet of the three angels which are yet to sound CHAP. IX 1 At the sounding of the fifth angel a star falleth from heaven to whom is given the key of the bottomless pit 2 He openeth the pit and there come forth locusts like scorpions 12 The first wo past 13 The sixth trumpet soundeth 14 Four angels are let loose that were bound ANd the fifth angel sounded and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit 2 And he opened the bottomless pit and there arose a smoke out of the pit as the smoke of a great furnace and the sun and the air were darkned by reason of the smoke of the pit 3 And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth and unto them was given power as the sâ—orpions of the earth have power 4 And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth neither any green thing neither any tree but onely those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads 5 And to them it was given that they should not kill them but that they should be tormented five moneths and their torment was as the torment of a scorpion when he striketh a man 6 And in those days * Isa 2 1â— Chap. 6.16 shall men seek death and shall not finde it and shall desire to die and death shall flee from them 7 And the shapes of the locusts were like unto horses prepared unto battel and on their heads were as it were crowns like Gold and their faces were as the faces of men 8 And they had hair as the hair of women and their teeth were as the teeth of lions 9 And they had breastplates as it were breastplates of iron and the sound of their wings was as the sound of chariots of many horses running to battel 10 And they had tails like unto scorpions and there were stings in their tails and their power was to hurt men five moneths 11 And they had a king over them which is the angel of the bottomless pit whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon but in the Greek tongue hath his name ‖ That is to say a destroyer Apollyon 12 One wo is past and behold there come two woes more hereafter 13 And the sixth angel sounded and I heard a voice from the four horns of the golden altar which is before God 14 Saying to the sixth angel which had the trumpet Loose the four angels which are bound in the great river Euphrates 15 And the four angels were loosed which were prepared ‖ Or at for an hour and a day and a moneth and a year for to slay the third part of men 16 And the number of the army of the hors-men were two hundred thousand thousand and I heard the number of them 17 And thus I saw the horses in the vision and them that sat on them having breast-plates of fire and of jacinct and brimstone and the heads of the horses were as the heads of lions and out of their mouths issued fire and smoke and brimstone 18 By these three was the third part of men killed by the fire and by the smoke and by the brimstone which issued out of their mouths 19 For their power is in their mouth and in their tails for their tails were like unto serpents and had heads and with them they do hurt 20 And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands that they should not worship devils * Psal 115.4 and 135. â—5 and idols of gold and silver and brass and stone and of wood which neither can see nor hear nor walk 21 Neither repented they of their murders nor of their sorceries nor of their fornication nor of their thefts CHAP. X. A mighty strong angel appeareth with a book open in his hand 6 He sweareth by him that liveth for ever that there shall be no more time 9 John is commanded to take and eat the book ANd I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven clothed with a cloud and a rainbowe was upon his head and his face was as it were the sun and his feet as pillars of fire 2 And he had in his hand a little book open and he set his right foot upon the sea and his left foot on the earth 3 And cried with a loud voice as when a lion
But she said Hold thy peace and deceive me not my son is dead and she want out every day into the way which they went and did eat no meat on the day-time and ceased not whole nights to bewail her son Tobias until the fourteen days of the wedding were expired which Raguel had sworn that he should spend there Then Tobias said to Raguel Let me go for my father and my mother look no more to see me 8 But his father in law said unto him Tarry with me and I will send to thy father and they shall declare unto him how things go with thee 9 But Tobias said No but let me go to my father 10 Then Raguel arose and gave him Sara his wife and half his goods servants and cattel and money 11 And he blessed them and sent them away saying The God of heaven give you a prosperous journey my children 12 And he said to his daughter Honour thy father and thy mother in law which are now thy parents that I may hear good report of thee and he kissed her Edna also said to Tobias The Lord of heaven restore thee my dear brother and grant that I may see thy children of my daughter Sara before I die that I may rejoyce before the Lord behold I commit my daughter unto thee ‖ Or to be safely â—â—pt of special trust wherefore do not entreat her evil CHAP. XI 6 Tobias mother spieth her son coming 10 His father meeteth him at the door and recovereth his sight 14 He praiseth God 17 and welcometh his daughter in law AFter these things Tobias went his way praising God that he had given him a prosperous journey and blessed Raguel and Edna his wife and went on his way till they drew near unto Nineve 2 Then Raphael said to Tobias Thou knowest brother how thou didst leave thy father 3 Let us haste before thy wife and prepare the house 4 And take in thine hand the gall of the fish So they went their way and the dog went after them 5 Now Anna sat looking about towards the way for her son 6 And when she espied him coming she said to his father Behold thy son cometh and the man that went with him 7 Then said Raphael I know Tobias that thy father will open his eyes 8 Therefore anoint thou his eyes with the gall and being pricked therewith he shall rub and the whiteness shall fall away and he shall see thee 9 Then Anna ran forth and fell upon the neck of her son and said unto him Seeing I have seen thee my son from henceforth I am content to die and they wept both 10 Tobit also went forth toward the door and stumbled but his son ran unto him 11 And took hold of his father and he strake of the gall on his fathers eyes saying Be of good hope my father 12 And when his eyes began to smart he rubbed them 13 And the whiteness pilled away from the corners of his eyes and when he saw his son he fell upon his neck 14 And he wept and said Blessed art thou O God and blessed is thy name for ever and blessed are all thine holy angels 15 For thou hast scourged and hast taken pity on me for behold I see my son Tobias And his son went in rejoycing and told his father the great things that had hapned to him in Media 16 Then Tobit went out to meet his daughter in law at the gate of Nineve rejoycing and praising God and they which saw him go marvelled because he had received his sight 17 But Tobit gave thanks before them because God had mercy on him And when he came near to Sara his daughter in law he blessed her saying Thou art welcome daughter God be blessed which hath brought thee unto us and blessed be thy father and thy mother And there was joy amongst all his brethren which were at Nineve 18 And Achiacharus ‖ Junius who is also called Nasbas and Nasbas his brothers son came 19 And Tobias wedding was kept seven days with great joy CHAP. XII 5 Tobit offereth half to the angel for his pains 6 But he calleth them both aside and exhorteth them 15 and telleth them that he was an angel 21 and was seen no more THen Tobit called his son Tobias and said unto him My son see that the man have his wages which went with thee and thou must give him more 2 And Tobias said unto him O Father it is no harm to me to give him half of those things which I have brought 3 For he hath brought me again to thee in safety and made whole my wife and brought me the money and likewise healed thee 4 Then the old man said It is due unto him 5 So he called the angel and he said unto him Take half of all that ye have brought and go away in safety 6 Then he took them both apart and said unto them Bless God praise him and magnify him and praise him for the things which he hath done unto you in the sight of all that live It is good to praise God and exalt his name and ‖ Or with honour honourably to shew forth the works of God therefore be not slack to praise him 7 It is good to keep close the secrets of a king but it is honourable to reveal the works of God do that which is good and no evil shall touch you 8 Prayer is good with fasting and alms and righteousness a little with righteousness is better then much with unrighteousness it is better to give alms then to lay up gold 9 For alms doth deliver from death and shall purge away all sin Those that exercise alms and righteousness shall be filled with life 10 But they that sin are enemies to their own life 11 Surely I will keep close nothing from you For I said it was good to keep close the secrets of a king but that it was honourable to reveal the works of God 12 Now therefore when thou didst pray and Sara thy daughter in law I did bring the remembrance of your prayers before the holy One and when thou didst bury the dead I was with thee likewise 13 And when thou didst not delay to rise up and leave thy dinner †Gr. to go and bury to go and cover the dead thy good deed was not hid from me but I was with thee 14 And now God hath sent me to heal thee and Sara thy daughter in law 15 I am Raphael one of the seven holy angels which present the prayers of the saints and which go in and out before the glory of the holy One 16 Then they were both troubled and fell upon their faces for they feared 17 But he said unto them Fear not for it shall go well with you praise God therefore 18 For not of any favour of mine but by the will of our God I came wherefore praise him for ever 19 * Gen. 18.8 19.3 Judges 13.16 All

XV. 1 The seven angels with the seven last plagues 3 The song of them that overcome the beast 7 The seven vials full of the wrath of God ANd I saw another signe in heaven great and marvellous seven angels having the seven last plagues for in them is filled up the wrath of God 2 And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire and them that had gotten the victory over the beast and over his image and over his mark and over the number of his name stand on the sea of glass having the harps of God 3 And they sing * Exod. 15.1 the song of Moses the servant of God and the song of the Lamb saying Great and marvellous are thy works Lord God Almighty * Psal 145.17 just and true are thy ways thou king of saints 4 * Jer. 10.7 Who shall not fear thee O Lord and glorifie thy name for thou onely art holy for all nations shall come and worship before thee for thy judgements are made manifest 5 And after that I looked and behold the temple of the tabernacle of the testimony in heaven was opened 6 And the seven angels came out of the temple having the seven plagues clothed in pure and white linen and having their breasts girded with golden girdles 7 And one of the four beasts gave unto the seven angels seven golden vials full of the wrath of God who liveth for ever and ever 8 And the temple was filled with smoke from the glory of God and from his power and no man was able to enter into the temple till the seven plagues of the seven angels were fulfilled CHAP. XVI 2 The angels pour out thrir vials full of wrath 6 The plagues that follow thereupon 15 Christ cometh as a thief Blessed are they that watch ANd I heard a great voice out of the temple saying to the seven angels Go your ways and pour out the vials of the wrath of God upon the earth 2 And the first went and poured out his vial upon the earth and there fell a noisom and grievous sore upon the men which had the mark of the beast and upon them which worshipped his image 3 And the second angel poured out his vial upon the sea and it became as the bloud of a dead man and every living soul died in the sea 4 And the third angel poured out his vial upon the rivers and fountains of waters and they became bloud 5 And I heard the angel of the waters say Thou art righteous O Lord which art and wast and shalt be because thou hast judged thus 6 For they have shed the bloud of saints and prophets and thou hast given them bloud to drink for they are worthy 7 And I heard another out of the altar say Even so Lord God Almighty true and righteous are thy judgements 8 And the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the sun and power was given unto him to scorch men with fire 9 And men were ‖ Or burned scorched with great heat and blasphemed the name of God which hath power over these plagues and they repented not to give him glory 10 And the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the seat of the beast and his kingdom was full of darkness and they gnawed their tongues for pain 11 And blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores and repented not of their deeds 12 And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates and the water thereof was dried up that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared 13 And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon and out of the mouth of the beast and out of the mouth of the false prophet 14 For they are the spirits of devils working miracles which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world to gather them to the battel of that great day of God Almighty 15 * Matth. 24.43 Chap. 3 3◠Behold I come as a thief Blessed is he that watcheth and keepeth his garments lest he walk naked and they see his shame 16 And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon 17 And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven from the throne saying it is done 18 And there were voices and thunders and lightnings and there was a great earthquake such as was not since men were upon the earth so mighty an earthquake and so great 19 And the great city was divided into three parts and the cities of the nations fell and great
