be_v worthy_a to_o be_v love_v for_o what_o be_v it_o that_o make_v any_o thing_n worthy_a of_o love_n it_o be_v the_o excellency_n that_o we_o find_v there_o now_o in_o the_o lord_n there_o be_v all_o kind_n of_o excellency_n whatsoever_o there_o be_v that_o be_v amiable_a under_o the_o sun_n all_o that_o you_o shall_v find_v in_o he_o more_o abundant_o if_o ever_o you_o see_v any_o thing_n in_o any_o creature_n any_o thing_n amiable_a in_o man_n if_o ever_o you_o see_v any_o beauty_n any_o virtue_n any_o excellency_n all_o these_o must_v be_v more_o abundant_a in_o he_o that_o make_v if_o you_o love_v any_o creature_n let_v it_o be_v with_o a_o little_a love_n let_v your_o affection_n be_v proportionable_a to_o the_o object_n as_o it_o exceed_v in_o the_o lord_n so_o let_v your_o love_n exceed_v towards_o he_o to_o love_v he_o with_o all_o your_o soul_n and_o all_o your_o strength_n and_o know_v this_o that_o he_o have_v not_o only_o that_o in_o a_o omnipotent_a manner_n be_v nothing_o to_o put_v you_o off_o but_o as_o the_o church_n say_v cant._n 5._o he_o be_v whole_o delectable_a that_o be_v there_o be_v nothing_o in_o he_o but_o that_o which_o be_v amiable_a that_o will_v be_v a_o very_a profitable_a thing_n for_o we_o in_o this_o case_n often_o to_o think_v on_o the_o lord_n jesus_n to_o present_v he_o to_o ourselves_o in_o our_o thought_n as_o the_o spouse_n do_v cant._n 5._o she_o consider_v her_o wellbeloved_a be_v the_o fair_a of_o ten_o thousand_o so_o we_o shall_v behold_v the_o person_n of_o our_o husband_n you_o know_v it_o be_v but_o a_o harlottry_n love_n to_o consider_v what_o we_o have_v by_o our_o husband_n to_o consider_v what_o riches_n he_o bring_v what_o honour_n and_o not_o often_o to_o contemplate_v upon_o his_o person_n and_o upon_o his_o virtue_n and_o excellency_n we_o shall_v learn_v to_o do_v this_o with_o the_o lord_n that_o we_o may_v love_v he_o therefore_o that_o we_o may_v help_v you_o a_o little_a in_o those_o that_o be_v contrary_a we_o hate_v and_o dislike_n but_o when_o you_o love_v the_o lord_n and_o be_v after_o his_o heart_n and_o have_v another_o nature_n in_o you_o it_o raise_v you_o above_o this_o nature_n of_o your_o own_o and_o then_o you_o will_v love_v those_o that_o be_v like_o the_o lord_n whosoever_o they_o be_v though_o perhaps_o they_o be_v not_o so_o sociable_a not_o of_o so_o fair_a a_o natural_a disposition_n but_o if_o you_o have_v a_o new_a nature_n and_o be_v become_v new_a creature_n now_o you_o have_v common_a friend_n and_o common_a enemy_n object_n do_v not_o object_v now_o that_o you_o be_v willing_a to_o do_v so_o if_o they_o be_v sincere_a and_o upright_a but_o they_o be_v hypocrite_n i_o say_v answ._n do_v not_o deceive_v yourselves_o in_o this_o for_o as_o they_o reject_v christ_n under_o the_o person_n of_o a_o counterfeit_n and_o of_o a_o wine-bibber_n so_o thou_o may_v persecute_v christ_n under_o the_o person_n of_o a_o hypocrite_n paul_n you_o know_v he_o think_v he_o do_v god_n good_a service_n in_o persecute_v those_o who_o he_o persecute_v yet_o though_o he_o do_v it_o ignorant_o he_o confess_v of_o himself_o that_o he_o be_v a_o blasphemer_n and_o a_o persecuter_n so_o i_o say_v though_o you_o do_v it_o ignorant_o under_o the_o person_n of_o a_o hypocrite_n yet_o that_o be_v the_o judgement_n and_o the_o censure_n that_o will_v be_v upon_o you_o that_o in_o so_o do_v you_o be_v persecuter_n and_o if_o you_o shall_v say_v 2_o that_o if_o the_o lord_n himself_o live_v among_o we_o if_o jesus_n christ_n be_v here_o i_o hope_v i_o shall_v show_v that_o i_o do_v not_o hate_v he_o you_o shall_v see_v what_o the_o lord_n himself_o say_v answ._n in_o that_o you_o have_v do_v it_o to_o these_o you_o have_v do_v it_o to_o say_v how_o shall_v we_o know_v this_o answ._n you_o shall_v know_v it_o by_o these_o three_o thing_n world_n first_o by_o your_o delight_n in_o the_o thing_n of_o the_o world_n and_o your_o grief_n and_o sorrow_n for_o the_o loss_n of_o they_o after_o you_o have_v enjoy_v they_o for_o if_o you_o find_v that_o you_o be_v much_o affect_v about_o they_o it_o be_v certain_a that_o you_o love_v the_o world_n and_o the_o thing_n of_o the_o world_n intemperate_a and_o excessive_a grief_n and_o complaint_n for_o worldly_a loss_n and_o cross_n be_v a_o sure_a argument_n and_o evidence_n that_o you_o love_v the_o world_n whereas_o when_o you_o love_v the_o lord_n you_o will_v be_v indifferent_a in_o those_o thing_n if_o a_o worldly_a loss_n befall_v you_o you_o will_v grieve_v as_o if_o you_o grieve_v not_o if_o any_o worldly_a advantage_n happen_v you_o will_v enjoy_v it_o as_o if_o you_o enjoy_v it_o not_o a_o man_n will_v be_v thus_o affect_v if_o i_o have_v god_n sure_a i_o reckon_v he_o only_o my_o portion_n all_o other_o thing_n be_v by_o accident_n he_o only_o be_v essential_a to_o my_o happiness_n we_o do_v not_o deny_v that_o a_o man_n may_v grieve_v upon_o such_o occasion_n but_o it_o be_v a_o light_a kind_n of_o grief_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v express_v well_o by_o the_o former_a phrase_n as_o if_o he_o grieve_v not_o he_o know_v all_o this_o while_n the_o main_n thing_n of_o the_o world_n it_o be_v true_a you_o may_v do_v the_o thing_n of_o the_o world_n and_o enjoy_v they_o and_o follow_v after_o they_o but_o in_o a_o remiss_a manner_n but_o when_o your_o affection_n be_v so_o much_o stir_v about_o they_o when_o you_o come_v to_o excessive_a love_n in_o the_o have_v they_o and_o excessive_a grief_n in_o the_o lose_n of_o they_o it_o be_v a_o sign_n that_o you_o love_v the_o world_n and_o the_o thing_n of_o the_o world_n second_o you_o shall_v know_v it_o by_o this_o when_o worldly_a thing_n shall_v come_v into_o competition_n with_o those_o that_o belong_v to_o a_o good_a conscience_n and_o the_o service_n of_o god_n you_o shall_v find_v this_o one_o way_n
the_o condition_n that_o god_n require_v in_o our_o love_n to_o he_o we_o go_v through_o two_o of_o they_o the_o last_o time_n we_o come_v now_o to_o that_o which_o remain_v all_o three_o you_o shall_v find_v this_o to_o be_v another_o condition_n in_o our_o love_n to_o the_o lord_n to_o love_v he_o above_o all_o that_o be_v incomparable_o above_o all_o for_o my_o brethren_n we_o may_v love_v many_o thing_n in_o the_o world_n we_o may_v love_v ourselves_o we_o be_v command_v to_o love_v our_o brethren_n as_o ourselves_o but_o this_o be_v peculiar_o require_v to_o the_o love_n of_o god_n if_o it_o be_v right_a in_o we_o and_o such_o as_o the_o lord_n expect_v at_o our_o hand_n that_o we_o love_v he_o above_o all_o for_o otherwise_o we_o do_v not_o love_v he_o as_o god_n we_o love_v he_o as_o a_o creature_n god_n for_o to_o say_v we_o love_v he_o as_o god_n and_o yet_o not_o to_o love_v he_o above_o all_o be_v a_o contradiction_n beside_o if_o we_o shall_v not_o reckon_v he_o as_o the_o chief_a good_a constant_o and_o so_o prize_v he_o above_o all_o some_o thing_n will_v offer_v itself_o one_o time_n or_o another_o to_o we_o and_o draw_v our_o affection_n to_o it_o and_o then_o we_o shall_v leave_v the_o lord_n and_o take_v that_o therefore_o i_o say_v it_o be_v require_v that_o we_o love_v the_o lord_n above_o all_o for_o every_o kind_n of_o love_n be_v not_o sufficient_a as_o we_o see_v it_o in_o other_o thing_n that_o love_n that_o will_v serve_v a_o servant_n or_o a_o common_a friend_n will_v not_o serve_v for_o a_o wife_n it_o be_v another_o kind_n of_o love_n that_o love_n that_o will_v serve_v for_o one_o will_v not_o serve_v for_o another_o a_o parent_n a_o king_n and_o a_o master_n as_o they_o have_v different_a relation_n so_o they_o must_v be_v love_n with_o different_a kind_n of_o love_n now_o then_o consider_v what_o love_n it_o be_v that_o belong_v to_o the_o lord_n he_o must_v have_v all_o he_o must_v have_v a_o love_n that_o answer_v he_o otherwise_o if_o thou_o come_v with_o a_o little_a pittance_n of_o love_n and_o say_v lord_n i_o be_o willing_a to_o bestow_v this_o upon_o thou_o the_o lord_n will_v refuse_v it_o he_o will_v answer_v i_o will_v take_v none_o of_o these_o thing_n at_o your_o hand_n even_o as_o landlord_n do_v with_o their_o tenant_n simile_n when_o they_o bring_v not_o all_o their_o rent_n they_o refuse_v it_o and_o reject_v it_o because_o it_o be_v not_o that_o which_o they_o require_v and_o which_o be_v due_a even_o so_o the_o lord_n deal_v with_o we_o as_o he_o do_v with_o the_o young_a man_n in_o the_o gospel_n say_v he_o go_v and_o sell_v all_o that_o thou_o have_v my_o brethren_n it_o be_v not_o the_o act_n of_o sell_v but_o it_o be_v the_o affection_n that_o be_v require_v therefore_o christ_n do_v but_o try_v his_o affection_n by_o it_o and_o it_o be_v perform_v by_o the_o wise_a merchant_n that_o sell_v all_o this_o the_o lord_n require_v that_o we_o love_v he_o above_o all_o all_o and_o there_o be_v good_a reason_n for_o it_o for_o he_o be_v most_o excellent_a and_o most_o amiable_a of_o all_o beside_o i_o be_o sure_a he_o have_v do_v for_o we_o more_o than_o all_o as_o paul_n speak_v be_v paul_n crucify_v for_o you_o have_v not_o christ_n buy_v you_o have_v not_o he_o redeem_v you_o have_v not_o he_o deserve_v more_o than_o all_o and_o shall_v he_o not_o therefore_o be_v love_v above_o all_o again_o be_v he_o not_o the_o uttermost_a end_n be_v not_o all_o nature_n else_o subordinate_a god_n as_o he_o be_v above_o all_o so_o shall_v we_o have_v a_o love_n answerable_a unto_o he_o object_n but_o you_o will_v object_v what_o to_o love_n god_n above_o myself_o how_o can_v i_o do_v that_o answ._n yes_o my_o brethren_n and_o there_o be_v good_a you_o love_v any_o creature_n above_o yourselves_o it_o may_v be_v the_o destruction_n of_o yourselves_o but_o the_o lord_n can_v provide_v for_o you_o and_o repair_v you_o again_o when_o the_o creature_n be_v destroy_v for_o the_o lord_n sake_n when_o a_o man_n be_v a_o loser_n for_o any_o thing_n that_o he_o do_v for_o the_o lord_n he_o be_v a_o great_a gainer_n by_o it_o for_o it_o be_v the_o rule_n that_o god_n have_v appoint_v the_o creature_n and_o the_o perfection_n of_o every_o creature_n be_v in_o come_v near_o to_o the_o rule_n now_o when_o the_o lord_n have_v appoint_v this_o in_o competition_n if_o you_o do_v this_o ordinary_o you_o be_v lover_n of_o pleasure_n more_o than_o lover_n of_o god_n so_o again_o god_n have_v command_v thou_o that_o thou_o shall_v not_o commit_v love_v all_o thing_n that_o you_o may_v and_o aught_o to_o love_n and_o which_o be_v good_a for_o you_o to_o love_v therefore_o the_o lord_n may_v require_v it_o upon_o this_o penalty_n for_o he_o shall_v concur_v together_o to_o do_v he_o hurt_v this_o be_v when_o the_o lord_n curse_v any_o man_n and_o this_o be_v the_o case_n of_o every_o man_n that_o love_v not_o the_o lord_n jesus_n our_o you_o may_v know_v what_o this_o curse_n be_v know_v that_o it_o consist_v in_o these_o four_o thing_n first_o it_o consist_v in_o this_o grace_n he_o shall_v be_v separate_v from_o grace_n and_o goodness_n from_o holiness_n
