they_o be_v able_a to_o apply_v the_o threaten_n of_o god_n judgement_n to_o the_o 2_o humble_v of_o themselves_o and_o the_o promise_n of_o god_n to_o comfort_v themselves_o again_o their_o knowledge_n be_v sufficient_a to_o direct_v they_o both_o general_o and_o in_o every_o particular_a duty_n and_o last_o of_o all_o it_o never_o fail_v they_o but_o direct_v they_o unto_o the_o end_n but_o the_o knowledge_n of_o the_o 3_o wicked_a be_v not_o so_o for_o it_o be_v confuse_v general_a &_o uncertain_a and_o therefore_o though_o they_o have_v a_o general_a knowledge_n of_o the_o and_o the_o sufficiency_n of_o it_o be_v compare_v to_o the_o sun_n so_o the_o knowledge_n of_o the_o wicked_a be_v compare_v to_o the_o lightning_n which_o do_v not_o give_v any_o certain_a light_n it_o do_v not_o continue_v any_o time_n and_o when_o it_o be_v go_v man_n be_v worse_o than_o they_o be_v before_o so_o do_v it_o fall_v out_o with_o the_o wicked_a for_o beside_o that_o their_o knowledge_n do_v soon_o vanish_v there_o be_v also_o in_o they_o afterward_o great_a and_o more_o dangerous_a darkness_n than_o there_o be_v before_o herein_o than_o we_o do_v see_v one_o plain_a and_o manifest_a note_n of_o difference_n second_o we_o come_v to_o our_o affection_n certain_a it_o be_v that_o the_o wicked_a do_v desire_v affection_n the_o help_n and_o the_o favour_n of_o god_n but_o look_v to_o the_o cause_n and_o that_o will_v show_v a_o difference_n between_o they_o and_o the_o godly_a the_o wicked_a do_v only_o seek_v help_n because_o of_o some_o extremity_n which_o they_o suffer_v they_o only_o desire_v to_o be_v in_o the_o favour_n of_o god_n because_o they_o 1_o will_v be_v free_v from_o grief_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v common_a with_o they_o to_o say_v oh_o that_o i_o be_v out_o of_o this_o pain_n oh_o that_o this_o my_o sorrow_n be_v take_v from_o i_o by_o which_o speech_n they_o show_v that_o so_o they_o may_v be_v at_o rest_n or_o live_v at_o their_o ease_n they_o will_v little_o weigh_v of_o the_o help_n or_o favour_n of_o god_n but_o the_o godly_a find_v such_o sweetness_n in_o the_o favour_n of_o god_n that_o for_o the_o desire_n psalm_n and_o love_v it_o to_o frequent_v the_o use_n of_o it_o the_o psalm_n seem_v to_o be_v general_a and_o may_v be_v use_v at_o all_o season_n and_o of_o all_o estate_n as_o not_o be_v bind_v to_o any_o peculiar_a condition_n of_o man_n or_o tie_v to_o any_o several_a circumstance_n as_o be_v many_o other_o psalm_n contain_v particular_a matter_n and_o therefore_o be_v it_o to_o be_v use_v as_o a_o notable_a meditation_n which_o may_v be_v show_v by_o this_o word_n mitchtam_n the_o first_o verse_n be_v the_o proposition_n of_o the_o whole_a and_o the_o residue_n of_o the_o psalm_n prosecute_v the_o same_o matter_n now_o to_o the_o word_n of_o the_o text_n preserve_v i_o o_o god_n here_o david_n desire_v not_o deliverance_n from_o any_o special_a trouble_n but_o general_o pray_v to_o be_v fence_v and_o defend_v continual_o by_o the_o providence_n of_o god_n wish_v that_o the_o lord_n will_v continue_v his_o mercy_n towards_o he_o unto_o the_o end_n and_o in_o the_o end_n lord_n deal_v merciful_o with_o i_o this_o deceive_v many_o we_o read_v not_o the_o affection_n word_n of_o god_n for_o imitation_n or_o as_o think_v that_o those_o affection_n which_o we_o read_v we_o deal_v not_o with_o man_n but_o with_o god_n we_o must_v not_o so_o much_o labour_n for_o a_o set_a order_n of_o word_n as_o for_o a_o well_o order_v heart_n and_o we_o must_v not_o use_v these_o for_o whatsoever_o be_v we_o by_o gift_n it_o be_v the_o interest_n of_o other_o by_o necessity_n whatsoever_o be_v proper_a to_o we_o by_o possession_n be_v common_a to_o the_o church_n by_o use_n and_o participation_n and_o whatsoever_o we_o have_v we_o have_v it_o for_o dispensation_n as_o the_o steward_n of_o god_n his_o gift_n and_o disposer_n of_o his_o grace_n and_o therefore_o as_o at_o the_o wicked_a god_n can_v abide_v to_o be_v worship_v in_o part_n or_o by_o mixture_n of_o religion_n as_o though_o the_o ark_n and_o dagon_n god_n and_o mammon_n christ_n and_o belial_n shall_v be_v join_v in_o worship_n together_o many_o be_v not_o so_o full_o content_v with_o the_o saint_n as_o that_o they_o be_v thorough_o discontent_v with_o the_o wicked_a who_o so_o long_o as_o they_o see_v matter_n of_o civil_a authority_n and_o good_a order_n have_v success_n can_v love_v the_o word_n to_o serve_v time_n and_o season_n who_o like_v of_o it_o be_v so_o small_a that_o when_o other_o religion_n come_v they_o find_v not_o themselves_o much_o discontent_v but_o we_o must_v learn_v so_o to_o believe_v in_o the_o true_a religion_n as_o our_o faith_n may_v draw_v out_o of_o we_o a_o unchangeable_a love_n and_o this_o true_a love_n must_v be_v free_a from_o all_o appearance_n of_o idolatry_n and_o contrary_a religion_n whatsoever_o if_o ever_o this_o doctrine_n be_v necessary_a it_o be_v now_o most_o needful_a since_o true_a religion_n so_o decay_v false_a religion_n so_o abound_v heathenish_a profaneness_n so_o grow_v all_o which_o no_o doubt_n arise_v oâ—_n so_o little_o accuse_v ourselves_o of_o want_n of_o love_n to_o the_o saint_n or_o when_o we_o will_v accuse_v ourselves_o of_o waâ—t_n of_o hatred_n to_o idolater_n see_v the_o spirit_n of_o the_o man_n of_o god_n so_o earnest_a and_o ourselves_o so_o cold_a herein_o in_o that_o he_o say_v he_o will_v not_o make_v mention_n of_o their_o name_n with_o his_o lip_n he_o declare_v he_o through_o hatred_n unto_o they_o which_o the_o more_o evident_o appear_v in_o that_o he_o will_v not_o only_o not_o communicate_v with_o they_o in_o his_o good_n but_o also_o that_o he_o will_v not_o meddle_v with_o their_o prosperity_n it_o bring_v aswelling_a joy_n yet_o in_o adversity_n it_o make_v man_n cry_v to_o the_o rock_n to_o cover_v they_o &_o to_o the_o mountain_n to_o fall_v upon_o they_o this_o must_v cause_v we_o more_o narrow_o to_o search_v our_o heart_n whether_o we_o have_v this_o love_n of_o true_a religion_n or_o no_o against_o the_o which_o neither_o the_o gate_n of_o hell_n nor_o terror_n
