you_o shall_v effectuate_v nothing_o let_v the_o intention_n of_o your_o heart_n be_v well_o ground_v in_o such_o sort_n that_o the_o exterior_a operation_n do_v proceed_v from_o the_o interior_a govern_v by_o that_o which_o be_v interior_a man_n life_n upon_o earth_n be_v a_o continual_a warfare_n as_o holy_a job_n witness_v in_o this_o war_n you_o must_v watch_v and_o your_o watch_n must_v consist_v in_o settle_v purify_n and_o quiet_v of_o your_o spirit_n in_o all_o your_o motion_n when_o any_o sudden_a storm_n of_o passion_n and_o sensual_a unquietness_n arise_v in_o your_o own_o soul_n be_v always_o ready_a with_o speed_n to_o settle_v and_o pacify_v the_o same_o in_o not_o grant_v it_o too_o much_o liberty_n to_o start_v or_o wander_v out_o of_o the_o right_a way_n observe_v this_o so_o often_o as_o unquietness_n shall_v assault_v you_o either_o in_o prayer_n or_o out_o of_o prayer_n then_o shall_v you_o be_v able_a to_o pray_v well_o when_o in_o this_o manner_n you_o know_v how_o to_o work_v well_o and_o note_v that_o when_o you_o practice_v the_o aforesaid_a observation_n you_o do_v it_o without_o force_n or_o violence_n but_o rather_o with_o pleasure_n for_o your_o principal_a exercise_n must_v be_v to_o quiet_a your_o soul_n and_o heart_n and_o suffer_v they_o not_o to_o be_v disorder_v or_o to_o stray_v but_o that_o always_o they_o be_v at_o rest_n chap._n ii_o of_o the_o care_n which_o the_o soul_n ought_v to_o have_v to_o settle_v herself_o in_o quietness_n wherefore_o before_o all_o thing_n you_o be_v to_o place_v this_o peaceable_a watchman_n and_o guard_n over_o your_o sense_n and_o thereby_o without_o toil_n and_o travel_v you_o shall_v be_v lead_v to_o great_a matter_n with_o great_a quietness_n and_o security_n by_o which_o quietness_n send_v by_o god_n almighty_a you_o shall_v watch_n pray_v obey_v and_o suffer_v injury_n without_o opposition_n yet_o till_o you_o be_v satisfy_v in_o yourself_o you_o be_v to_o sustain_v some_o labour_n for_o want_v of_o practice_n herein_o but_o your_o soul_n shall_v rest_v quiet_v and_o comfort_v in_o whatsoever_o contradiction_n befall_v you_o and_o every_o day_n more_o and_o corporal_a work_n force_v not_o yourself_o to_o make_v a_o end_n of_o it_o to_o soon_o nor_o limit_v yourself_o with_o any_o time_n in_o which_o it_o must_v be_v finish_v but_o rather_o work_v the_o same_o with_o ease_n and_o tranquillity_n for_o your_o principal_a intention_n must_v be_v to_o have_v god_n before_o your_o eye_n with_o great_a quietness_n without_o all_o kind_n of_o respect_n of_o content_v any_o other_o beside_o he_o for_o if_o you_o make_v any_o mixture_n of_o other_o affection_n you_o shall_v soon_o perceive_v the_o vexation_n and_o unquietness_n which_o in_o your_o soul_n shall_v arise_v so_o by_o fall_v down_o and_o rise_v up_o again_o you_o shall_v observe_v and_o clear_o see_v that_o all_o your_o hurt_n proceed_v from_o self-love_n whilst_o we_o endeavour_v that_o do_v labour_n in_o vain_a and_o observe_v that_o the_o principal_a foundation_n of_o this_o be_v humility_n chap._n iu._n how_o the_o soul_n must_v deprive_v herself_o of_o all_o comfort_n for_o to_o attain_v to_o this_o quietness_n and_o peace_n for_o to_o enter_v in_o by_o this_o door_n of_o humility_n thou_o must_v be_v earnest_a to_o embrace_v tribulation_n and_o esteem_v they_o as_o thy_o sister_n and_o wish_v to_o be_v despise_v of_o all_o man_n and_o that_o none_o do_v comfort_v thou_o but_o god_n and_o let_v this_o be_v thy_o settle_a persuasion_n that_o only_a god_n be_v thy_o total_a joy_n and_o that_o all_o other_o thing_n be_v thorn_n to_o thou_o so_o that_o thou_o be_v to_o accustom_v thy_o soul_n to_o be_v alone_o with_o god_n represent_v unto_o thyself_o that_o if_o saviour_n say_v beware_v of_o the_o false_a prophet_n that_o come_v in_o sheepskin_n and_o be_v raven_a wolf_n by_o their_o fruit_n you_o shall_v know_v they_o their_o fruit_n therefore_o be_v to_o leave_v behind_o they_o in_o the_o soul_n vexation_n and_o unquietness_n any_o thing_n that_o separate_v we_o from_o humility_n and_o this_o inward_a peace_n and_o quietness_n under_o what_o colour_n soever_o it_o be_v it_o be_v a_o false_a prophet_n and_o a_o raven_a wolf_n for_o under_o the_o shape_n of_o a_o
puff_n he_o up_o into_o pride_n as_o he_o himself_o witness_v by_o which_o we_o see_v that_o our_o lord_n take_v pity_n on_o our_o misery_n and_o perverse_a inclination_n do_v suffer_v both_o horrible_a foul_a and_o sundry_a temptation_n to_o assault_v we_o to_o the_o end_n that_o by_o they_o we_o may_v be_v make_v humble_a and_o careful_a of_o ourselves_o though_o in_o our_o own_o opinion_n we_o profit_v nothing_o by_o they_o wherein_o his_o great_a wisdom_n and_o goodness_n do_v appear_v by_o procure_v our_o great_a good_a by_o that_o which_o we_o think_v to_o be_v our_o be_v forlorn_a whereof_o it_o follow_v that_o he_o who_o a_o little_a before_o rather_o esteem_v himself_o somewhat_o now_o by_o this_o physic_n send_v he_o from_o heaven_n hold_v himself_o the_o
