vex_v with_o the_o thought_n of_o his_o bypass_a cross_n or_o solicitous_a how_o to_o wrestle_v through_o his_o future_a and_o that_o because_o while_o he_o follow_v his_o present_a duty_n cheerful_o take_v the_o lord_n allowance_n of_o outward_a comfort_n for_o that_o end_n the_o lord_n will_v answer_v his_o prayer_n and_o pain_n by_o give_v he_o spiritual_a joy_n and_o make_v his_o heart_n glad_a in_o himself_o and_o his_o allowance_n to_o he_o hence_o learn_v 1._o not_o only_o do_v the_o lord_n people_n stand_v in_o need_n of_o direction_n how_o to_o go_v about_o religious_a performance_n but_o likewise_o how_o to_o use_v aright_o their_o common_a comfort_n even_o their_o meat_n drink_v and_o other_o refreshment_n of_o that_o nature_n consider_v that_o they_o be_v in_o hazard_n to_o be_v take_v with_o many_o snare_n in_o these_o and_o that_o there_o be_v communion_n to_o be_v have_v with_o god_n in_o the_o right_a use_n of_o they_o as_o well_o as_o in_o act_n of_o immediate_a worship_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v a_o necessary_a part_n of_o a_o minister_n work_v to_o direct_v people_n carriage_n herein_o and_o people_n as_o they_o love_v their_o own_o peace_n shall_v study_v the_o right_a use_n of_o these_o thing_n for_o after_o solomon_n have_v teach_v the_o right_a manner_n of_o worship_n in_o the_o first_o part_n of_o the_o chapter_n he_o come_v here_o in_o the_o last_o to_o set_v people_n upon_o the_o right_a way_n of_o use_v their_o common_a mercy_n behold_v etc._n etc._n it_o be_v good_a for_o one_o to_o eat_v and_o to_o drink_v etc._n etc._n 2._o christ_n minister_n shall_v be_v no_o less_o careful_a to_o point_v out_o the_o lawful_a liberty_n of_o the_o lord_n people_n and_o show_v they_o how_o large_a his_o allowance_n to_o they_o be_v even_o in_o the_o use_n of_o outward_a comfort_n than_o to_o show_v they_o the_o hazard_n of_o inordinat_a love_n to_o and_o excess_n in_o the_o use_n of_o these_o thing_n and_o consequent_o the_o lord_n people_n shall_v be_v as_o careful_a to_o know_v and_o take_v their_o allowance_n in_o the_o holy_a and_o cheerful_a use_n of_o creature_n comfort_n as_o they_o shall_v be_v attentive_a lest_o they_o exceed_v in_o their_o love_n of_o and_o delight_n in_o they_o consider_v that_o satan_n study_v to_o drive_v they_o from_o one_o extreme_a to_o another_o and_o as_o he_o take_v occasion_n from_o their_o lawful_a liberty_n to_o drive_v they_o to_o excess_n so_o from_o the_o doctrine_n of_o mortification_n especial_o when_o it_o be_v strain_v too_o high_a or_o not_o qualify_v with_o the_o doctrine_n of_o christian_a liberty_n in_o the_o use_n of_o lawful_a comfort_n either_o to_o make_v they_o look_v upon_o religion_n as_o a_o severe_a and_o rigid_a task_n prejudicial_a to_o their_o natural_a life_n and_o the_o comfort_n of_o it_o or_o to_o make_v they_o without_o ground_n scrupulous_a and_o with_o fear_n and_o doubt_v to_o use_v these_o thing_n which_o if_o they_o know_v the_o lord_n allowance_n and_o the_o right_a way_n of_o use_v they_o they_o may_v use_v with_o a_o quiet_a and_o good_a conscience_n therefore_o the_o spirit_n of_o the_o lord_n after_o he_o have_v direct_v solomon_n by_o many_o argument_n to_o dissuade_v from_o the_o inordinat_fw-la love_n of_o riches_n in_o the_o second_o part_n of_o this_o chapter_n he_o bring_v he_o in_o the_o close_a to_o commend_v the_o holy_a and_o comfortable_a use_n of_o the_o creature_n behold_v that_o which_o i_o have_v see_v it_o be_v good_a and_o comely_a for_o one_o to_o eat_v and_o drink_v and_o enjoy_v good_a etc._n etc._n 3._o though_o the_o pretence_n of_o the_o best_a man_n experience_n of_o the_o good_a of_o any_o course_n be_v a_o very_a slender_a commendation_n of_o it_o if_o there_o be_v no_o far_o see_v man_n be_v so_o easy_o deceive_v yet_o minister_n shall_v put_v truth_n they_o hold_v forth_o to_o the_o trial_n of_o their_o own_o experience_n and_o shall_v be_v very_o careful_a observer_n what_o true_a advantage_n may_v be_v find_v in_o any_o course_n or_o practice_n they_o commend_v that_o they_o themselves_o may_v taste_v of_o it_o and_o see_v it_o and_o so_o may_v with_o great_a zeal_n and_o confidence_n call_v other_o to_o try_v the_o same_o and_o their_o commendation_n of_o it_o come_v through_o a_o heart_n season_v with_o the_o sweetness_n thereof_o it_o may_v be_v the_o sweet_a to_o they_o that_o have_v their_o sense_n exercise_v for_o so_o do_v solomon_n here_o commend_v this_o way_n from_o his_o own_o experience_n behold_v that_o which_o i_o have_v see_v it_o be_v good_a and_o comely_a etc._n etc._n 4._o though_o nothing_o low_a than_o the_o enjoyment_n of_o the_o everblessed_n god_n be_v a_o man_n chief_a good_a yet_o there_o be_v a_o subordinat_a inferior_a good_a in_o the_o right_a use_n of_o the_o most_o common_a comfort_n of_o this_o life_n such_o as_o meat_n drink_v and_o the_o like_a in_o so_o far_o as_o the_o same_o be_v use_v to_o keep_v the_o body_n in_o health_n and_o strength_n and_o to_o cheer_v the_o natural_a spirit_n in_o do_v the_o lord_n service_n for_o solomon_n say_v he_o see_v this_o that_o it_o be_v good_a for_o a_o man_n to_o eat_v and_o drink_v etc._n etc._n to_o wit_n in_o this_o sense_n and_o for_o this_o end_n 5._o as_o the_o hearty_a cheerful_a and_o holy_a use_n of_o allow_a creature_n comfort_n be_v a_o thing_n that_o beautify_v religion_n and_o make_v christian_n lovely_a to_o onlooker_n so_o be_v they_o bind_v to_o study_v the_o same_o for_o that_o very_a end_n and_o not_o to_o look_v only_o to_o what_o be_v good_a for_o themselves_o but_o also_o to_o what_o be_v comely_a to_o other_o or_o may_v allure_v and_o gain_v they_o to_o fall_v in_o love_n with_o the_o way_n of_o religion_n for_o solomon_n here_o commend_v the_o holy_a and_o cheerful_a use_n of_o allow_a comfort_n from_o this_o that_o as_o it_o be_v good_a to_o the_o person_n so_o use_v they_o so_o it_o be_v comely_a to_o other_o behold_v say_v he_o that_o which_o i_o have_v see_v that_o it_o be_v good_a to_o wit_n for_o a_o man_n self_n main_o and_o comely_a or_o as_o the_o word_n signify_v beautiful_a namely_o in_o the_o sight_n of_o other_o that_o a_o man_n shall_v eat_v and_o drink_v and_o enjoy_v the_o good_a of_o his_o labour_n 6._o though_o some_o be_v exeme_v from_o handle-labour_n or_o servile_a labour_n so_o man_n painful_a labour_n as_o the_o word_n signify_v be_v only_o during_o this_o life_n under_o the_o sun_n his_o rest_n from_o his_o labour_n be_v above_o the_o sun_n whether_o his_o work_n shall_v follow_v he_o for_o say_v solomon_n it_o be_v good_a for_o a_o man_n to_o eat_v and_o drink_v and_o enjoy_v the_o good_a of_o his_o labour_n which_o he_o take_v under_o the_o sun_n as_o man_n destitute_a of_o the_o special_a operation_n of_o the_o lordâ—_n spirit_n may_v manifest_v much_o skill_n prudence_n experience_n ingenuity_n and_o uprightness_n in_o their_o act_n and_o yet_o be_v seek_v but_o a_o earthly_a happiness_n and_o never_o mind_v the_o great_a end_n of_o all_o their_o undertake_n the_o glory_n of_o god_n their_o own_o and_o other_o spiritual_a good_a so_o the_o more_o of_o these_o gift_n or_o virtue_n man_n do_v exercise_n and_o manifest_v in_o their_o interprise_n if_o they_o seek_v no_o further_o the_o more_o will_v their_o anxiety_n and_o vexation_n be_v increase_v be_v it_o but_o upon_o this_o ground_n that_o they_o can_v dispose_v of_o all_o their_o purchase_n to_o man_n after_o they_o according_a to_o their_o own_o inclination_n and_o pleasure_n for_o solomon_n here_o speak_v with_o a_o main_a eye_n to_o himself_o and_o his_o own_o disposition_n and_o carriage_n while_o he_o be_v at_o a_o distance_n from_o the_o lord_n and_o so_o act_v as_o a_o natural_a man_n may_v do_v while_o he_o say_v there_o be_v a_o man_n who_o labour_n be_v in_o wisdom_n and_o knowledge_n and_o equity_n and_o yet_o to_o a_o man_n that_o have_v not_o labour_v therein_o shall_v he_o leave_v it_o this_o be_v a_o great_a evil_n 4_o while_o these_o prime_a motive_n which_o shall_v prevail_v to_o alienate_v man_n heart_n from_o sinful_a course_n be_v either_o not_o mind_v or_o have_v no_o power_n for_o that_o effect_n the_o lord_n can_v and_o sometime_o do_v make_v use_n of_o common_a and_o more_o inferior_a motive_n for_o bring_v about_o the_o same_o and_o therefore_o every_o frame_n of_o spirit_n be_v not_o to_o be_v look_v upon_o as_o bad_a because_o it_o have_v be_v wrought_v by_o some_o consideration_n which_o be_v common_a and_o have_v in_o they_o a_o mixture_n of_o ignorance_n and_o corruption_n for_o solomon_n shall_v have_v cause_v his_o heart_n to_o despair_v of_o happiness_n in_o the_o creature_n because_o he_o be_v create_v for_o enjoy_v a_o felicity_n of_o a_o high_a nature_n than_o all_o the_o creature_n can_v afford_v and_o because_o true_a happiness_n be_v only_o to_o be_v have_v in_o reconciliation_n and_o fellowship_n with_o god_n but_o he_o do_v not_o attain_v at_o this_o time_n whereunto_o he_o here_o relate_v to_o these_o thought_n and_o yet_o this_o more_o inferior_a consideration_n be_v bless_v lord_n in_o his_o wise_a providence_n see_v it_o fit_a that_o great_a thing_n of_o the_o world_n shall_v fall_v for_o a_o portion_n to_o man_n who_o have_v neither_o wit_n nor_o experience_n for_o delivery_n psal_n â—9_n 62_o yet_o when_o excess_n of_o care_n and_o fear_n about_o thing_n earthly_a go_v between_o man_n and_o their_o night_n rest_n or_o other_o allow_a refreshment_n of_o that_o nature_n it_o be_v not_o only_o a_o clear_a evidence_n of_o their_o own_o vanity_n and_o sinfulness_n in_o seek_v happiness_n in_o these_o thing_n but_o 〈◊〉_d of_o god_n just_a displeasure_n who_o that_o that_o happiness_n which_o be_v attainable_a in_o this_o world_n consist_v in_o the_o conjunction_n of_o these_o two_o the_o 1._o relate_v to_o the_o outward_a man_n be_v the_o holy_a sober_a and_o cheerful_a use_n of_o all_o lawful_a creature_n comfort_n which_o the_o scripture_n comprehend_v under_o the_o name_n of_o our_o daily_a bread_n and_o he_o call_v eat_v and_o drink_v for_o thus_o must_v the_o eat_v and_o drink_v here_o commend_v be_v understand_v and_o not_o of_o a_o man_n give_v up_o himself_o to_o the_o excessive_a use_n of_o sensual_a delight_n consider_v that_o solomon_n have_v so_o much_o condemn_v this_o before_o as_o unworthy_a to_o be_v choose_v for_o a_o man_n portion_n and_o that_o the_o same_o be_v altogether_o inconsistent_a with_o the_o good_a of_o the_o soul_n the_o 2._o relate_v to_o the_o inner-man_n to_o which_o the_o former_a must_v be_v subservient_fw-fr be_v that_o he_o make_v his_o soul_n enjoy_v good_a which_o must_v be_v understand_v have_v yet_o two_o far_a degree_n of_o his_o fancy_a happiness_n the_o 1._o be_v a_o numerous_a offspring_n to_o possess_v what_o he_o have_v gather_v if_o a_o man_n say_v he_o beget_v a_o hundred_o child_n he_o put_v a_o definit_a number_n for_o a_o indefinite_a a_o hundred_o for_o many_o according_a to_o a_o ordinary_a way_n of_o speak_v in_o scripture_n 1_o cor._n 14.13_o and_o by_o suppose_v he_o to_o be_v in_o a_o case_n which_o be_v not_o possible_a he_o labour_v to_o awake_v he_o out_o of_o his_o dream_n of_o find_v happiness_n in_o a_o case_n far_o inferior_a to_o that_o which_o be_v to_o want_v other_o two_o thing_n 1._o that_o his_o soul_n enjoy_v no_o good_a that_o be_v he_o neither_o have_v the_o comfortable_a use_n of_o his_o riches_n nor_o do_v he_o make_v sure_o any_o spiritual_a or_o eternal_a good_a to_o himself_o and_o 2._o that_o he_o have_v no_o burial_n he_o suppose_v he_o to_o want_v burial_n not_o as_o if_o all_o covetous_a wretch_n be_v deprive_v of_o this_o favour_n luk._n 16.22_o nor_o as_o if_o the_o have_v of_o it_o can_v in_o the_o least_o contribute_v to_o their_o happiness_n but_o because_o covetous_a and_o ambitious_a man_n do_v oft_o make_v more_o preparation_n for_o a_o sumptuous_a burial_n than_o for_o their_o eternal_a well-being_a isai_n 22.16_o and_o because_o none_o of_o they_o can_v be_v certain_a if_o ever_o they_o shall_v upon_o he_o now_o go_v out_o of_o the_o world_n therefore_o he_o speak_v of_o it_o as_o peculiar_a to_o he_o then_o 2._o his_o death_n here_o call_v departure_n be_v comfortless_a and_o a_o entrance_n into_o utter_a darkness_n and_o 3._o for_o his_o reputation_n or_o name_n in_o the_o perpetuate_n whereof_o he_o place_v one_o part_n of_o his_o earthly_a happiness_n that_o shall_v not_o be_v remember_v with_o god_n or_o good_a man_n for_o any_o advantage_n to_o he_o ver_fw-la 4._o and_o for_o the_o abortive_a who_o have_v not_o have_v the_o most_o common_a benefit_n of_o this_o life_n to_o see_v the_o sun_n or_o to_o have_v the_o exercise_n of_o reason_n and_o so_o be_v not_o guilty_a of_o abuse_v these_o and_o the_o like_a favour_n as_o the_o covetous_a be_v this_o have_v more_o rest_n than_o the_o covetous_a not_o as_o if_o proper_o such_o a_o one_o can_v be_v say_v to_o have_v any_o rest_n in_o this_o world_n or_o as_o if_o the_o covetous_a can_v have_v the_o least_o degree_n of_o true_a rest_n as_o the_o compare_v of_o they_o will_v seem_v to_o import_v but_o that_o this_o untimely_a birth_n be_v never_o vex_v with_o such_o distract_n care_v and_o fear_n as_o the_o covetous_a worldling_n be_v torment_v with_o five_o he_o enlarge_v the_o supposition_n of_o the_o covetous_a man_n long_a life_n by_o suppose_v that_o which_o be_v impossible_a to_o wit_n that_o he_o shall_v have_v a_o thousand_o year_n twice_o tell_v superad_v to_o all_o his_o other_o earthly_a advantage_n of_o riches_n honour_n numerous_a offspring_n and_o the_o like_a and_o this_o he_o reason_n that_o notwithstanding_o of_o this_o long_a life_n with_o all_o the_o forementioned_a advantage_n of_o it_o he_o be_v still_o a_o miserable_a man_n provide_v he_o seek_v not_o happiness_n of_o a_o high_a nature_n than_o can_v be_v have_v in_o thing_n earthly_a the_o first_o reason_n be_v that_o he_o remain_v all_o his_o time_n a_o stranger_n to_o the_o sweetness_n of_o fellowship_n with_o god_n it_o be_v safe_a to_o understand_v solomon_n so_o here_o while_o he_o say_v he_o have_v see_v no_o good_a see_v he_o have_v learn_v of_o his_o father_n that_o man_n true_a good_a consist_v in_o that_o fellowship_n psal_n 4.6_o the_o second_o be_v that_o this_o man_n suppose_v to_o be_v so_o near_o his_o imaginary_a happiness_n must_v go_v to_o the_o same_o place_n with_o the_o abortive_a or_o those_o he_o judge_n most_o miserable_a he_o must_v meet_v with_o they_o in_o the_o grave_a or_o state_n of_o the_o dead_a which_o be_v here_o call_v that_o one_o place_n whether_o all_o man_n go_v and_o so_o what_o ever_o it_o be_v belong_v to_o this_o life_n only_o that_o difference_v one_o man_n from_o another_o that_o can_v make_v he_o a_o happy_a man_n ver_fw-la 6._o hence_o learn_v 1._o man_n destitute_a of_o save_a wisdom_n be_v very_o ingenious_a to_o find_v out_o pretence_n and_o seem_a excuse_n for_o their_o sinful_a course_n and_o therefore_o they_o that_o will_v reclaim_v such_o must_v trace_v they_o through_o these_o and_o discover_v the_o vanity_n of_o they_o for_o solomon_n here_o suppose_v the_o covetous_a worldling_n swell_v in_o riches_n to_o cover_v his_o excessive_a love_n to_o the_o world_n and_o his_o deprive_v himself_o of_o lawful_a comfort_n with_o the_o pretence_n of_o provide_v for_o his_o numerous_a offspring_n and_o his_o old_a age_n and_o prove_v that_o neither_o of_o these_o do_v lessen_v his_o sin_n or_o his_o misery_n for_o say_v he_o though_o he_o have_v a_o hundred_o child_n and_o live_v many_o year_n etc._n etc._n yet_o he_o be_v but_o a_o miserable_a caitif_n 2._o the_o lord_n may_v manifest_v his_o bounty_n to_o wicked_a man_n by_o heap_v upon_o they_o the_o choice_n of_o outward_a blessing_n and_o may_v draw_v out_o his_o long_a suffer_a patience_n towards_o they_o in_o great_a length_n by_o give_v they_o many_o day_n and_o year_n while_o they_o be_v walk_v contrary_a to_o he_o that_o by_o his_o so_o do_v he_o may_v reclaim_v some_o of_o they_o and_o make_v the_o rest_n the_o more_o inexcusable_a for_o have_v before_o suppose_v the_o covetous_a man_n to_o have_v abundance_n of_o all_o sort_n of_o riches_n he_o here_o suppose_v he_o to_o have_v many_o child_n and_o to_o live_v many_o year_n so_o that_o the_o day_n of_o his_o year_n be_v many_o 3._o as_o those_o may_v have_v variety_n of_o outward_a blessing_n who_o yet_o enjoy_v nothing_o that_o be_v true_o good_a for_o their_o soul_n so_o man_n happiness_n be_v only_o to_o be_v estimat_fw-la according_a to_o his_o soul_n enjoy_v of_o be_v seek_v after_o by_o other_o for_o the_o comfort_n of_o the_o mourner_n and_o edification_n of_o those_o who_o visit_v they_o that_o they_o may_v be_v mind_v of_o their_o own_o death_n and_o of_o the_o death_n of_o their_o friend_n that_o they_o may_v short_o be_v in_o the_o case_n of_o mourner_n or_o may_v leave_v other_o mourn_v for_o they_o for_o it_o be_v here_o suppose_a also_o that_o it_o be_v a_o duty_n to_o go_v the_o house_n mourn_v 3._o it_o be_v not_o prejudicial_a to_o the_o true_a comfort_n and_o joy_n of_o a_o christian_a to_o be_v frequent_o mind_v death_n nor_o shall_v
