prophetical_a historian_n foretell_v they_o what_o will_v be_v the_o common_a opinion_n of_o the_o nation_n of_o the_o jew_n in_o those_o day_n namely_o that_o they_o will_v be_v infect_v with_o such_o a_o superstitious_a opinion_n of_o the_o holiness_n of_o the_o outward_a rest_n of_o the_o sabbath_n that_o they_o will_v neither_o stir_v hand_n or_o foot_n to_o break_v the_o outward_a rest_n of_o the_o sabbath_n by_o flight_n to_o save_v their_o life_n this_o caution_n of_o our_o saviour_n to_o his_o disciple_n must_v needs_o be_v understand_v in_o this_o sense_n because_o the_o whole_a frame_n of_o his_o speech_n be_v fetch_v by_o way_n of_o allusion_n to_o a_o former_a like_o sad_a calamity_n which_o fall_v upon_o they_o under_o antiochus_n epiphanes_n who_o do_v purposely_o molest_v they_o upon_o the_o sabbath_n day_n as_o also_o in_o the_o winter_n time_n and_o then_o they_o suffer_v extreme_a misery_n by_o reason_n of_o their_o superstitious_a opinion_n of_o the_o outward_a rest_n of_o the_o sabbath_n day_n which_o they_o may_v have_v prevent_v if_o they_o have_v hold_v it_o lawful_a at_o first_o as_o they_o do_v at_o last_o that_o in_o case_n of_o necessity_n they_o may_v either_o fight_v or_o fly_v for_o their_o life_n upon_o the_o sabbath_n day_n our_o saviour_n in_o this_o his_o speech_n to_o his_o disciple_n do_v allude_v to_o the_o time_n of_o antiochus_n and_o therefore_o he_o do_v mention_v the_o winter_n as_o well_o as_o the_o sabbath_n day_n for_o judas_n maccabeus_n do_v cleanse_v the_o temple_n and_o the_o altar_n in_o the_o winter_n with_o mat._n 27._o 50_o 51._o heb._n 9_o 14._o and_o the_o goodliness_n also_o of_o the_o temple_n must_v have_v a_o end_n as_o soon_o as_o he_o that_o be_v great_a than_o the_o temple_n have_v finish_v his_o oblation_n mat._n 12._o 26._o and_o by_o the_o like_a reason_n also_o the_o sabbath_n as_o it_o be_v a_o type_n of_o our_o rest_v on_o the_o sèed_n of_o the_o woman_n to_o break_v the_o work_n in_o gather_v of_o certain_a ear_n of_o corn_n in_o other_o man_n field_n and_o rub_v the_o say_a ear_n to_o prepare_v it_o for_o food_n on_o the_o sabbath_n day_n and_o doubtless_o after_o the_o say_v rub_v it_o be_v either_o parch_v in_o the_o fire_n or_o boil_a in_o water_n fit_a for_o the_o digesture_n of_o the_o stomach_n or_o else_o if_o they_o have_v eat_v it_o raw_a it_o have_v be_v but_o course_n and_o hard_a food_n now_o if_o it_o have_v be_v unlawful_a to_o prepare_v such_o a_o small_a quantity_n of_o food_n as_o be_v fit_a for_o the_o present_a support_n of_o nature_n on_o the_o sabbath_n day_n doubtless_o christ_n will_v have_v command_v his_o apostle_n beforehand_o to_o provide_v their_o scrip_n full_a of_o victual_n namely_o on_o the_o sixth_o day_n but_o in_o as_o much_o as_o he_o have_v not_o make_v such_o provision_n on_o the_o sixth_o day_n but_o do_v justify_v his_o apostle_n for_o this_o work_n in_o the_o sabbath_n day_n by_o allege_v the_o example_n of_o david_n in_o eat_v the_o show_n bread_n in_o case_n of_o hunger_n he_o do_v thereby_o confute_v and_o reprove_v the_o jew_n superstitious_a opinion_n of_o the_o outward_a rest_n of_o the_o sabbath_n allege_v also_o that_o the_o sabbath_n be_v make_v for_o man_n and_o not_o man_n for_o the_o sabbath_n mar._n 2._o 27._o as_o if_o christ_n have_v say_v 27_o mar._n 2._o 27_o thus_o if_o misery_n namely_o after_o adam_n fall_n chief_o for_o the_o good_a of_o his_o sick_a and_o sinful_a soul_n and_o therefore_o god_n do_v bless_v it_o with_o suitable_a ordinance_n and_o do_v sanctify_v that_o day_n for_o the_o use_n of_o those_o ordinance_n but_o yet_o withal_o the_o sabbath_n be_v make_v to_o serve_v man_n in_o misery_n in_o respect_n of_o his_o body_n that_o it_o may_v rest_v and_o be_v refresh_v with_o convenient_a food_n physic_n and_o the_o like_a and_o therefore_o godly_a wisdom_n will_v make_v all_o the_o godly_a careful_a to_o improve_v the_o lord_n day_n so_o as_o private_a ordinance_n as_o well_o as_o for_o the_o public_a and_o therefore_o no_o time_n may_v be_v exempt_v from_o these_o holy_a duty_n but_o in_o case_n of_o necessary_a food_n physic_n or_o the_o like_a case_n of_o necessity_n &_o therefore_o before_o we_o address_v ourselves_o to_o god_n public_a ordinance_n we_o must_v be_v careful_a to_o prepare_v our_o soul_n to_o come_v with_o fear_n and_o reverence_n and_o so_o in_o our_o hear_n in_o our_o pray_v sing_v etc._n etc._n we_o must_v take_v heed_n how_o we_o hear_v how_o we_o pray_v and_o sing_v so_o likewise_o afterward_o we_o must_v examine_v ourselves_o how_o our_o soul_n have_v profit_v by_o the_o public_a ordinance_n or_o else_o we_o may_v look_v for_o a_o curse_n rather_o than_o a_o blessing_n from_o the_o say_a ordinance_n hence_o it_o follow_v by_o necessary_a consequence_n that_o no_o good_a christian_n can_v allow_v himself_o liberty_n to_o do_v such_o kind_n of_o exercise_n as_o you_o have_v name_v but_o they_o scourge_v or_o by_o some_o mulct_n that_o be_v equivalent_a christian_n on_o the_o lord_n day_n as_o they_o be_v to_o the_o jew_n on_o the_o sabbath_n day_n because_o they_o take_v off_o the_o heart_n from_o the_o advantage_n of_o improve_n the_o public_a ordinance_n to_o the_o spiritual_a good_a of_o the_o soul_n which_o god_n intend_v when_o he_o bless_v and_o sanctify_v the_o seven_o day_n for_o
