such_o provision_n as_o shall_v be_v convenient_a for_o our_o own_o family_n or_o for_o the_o relief_n of_o our_o poor_a neighbour_n yet_o to_o make_v solemn_a feast_n upon_o this_o day_n as_o be_v the_o custom_n of_o too_o many_o whereby_o servant_n be_v keep_v from_o the_o public_a ordinance_n and_o ourselves_o and_o guest_n be_v more_o indispose_v to_o the_o duty_n of_o god_n worship_n and_o service_n must_v needs_o be_v unlawful_a and_o therefore_o though_o we_o be_v not_o forbid_v upon_o the_o lord_n day_n to_o kindle_v a_o fire_n for_o the_o dress_n of_o meat_n yet_o we_o must_v take_v heed_n that_o we_o make_v not_o such_o a_o flame_n as_o shall_v kindle_v the_o fire_n of_o god_n wrath_n against_o we_o 4_o from_o all_o worldly_a word_n and_o discourse_v of_o earthly_a affair_n which_o the_o lord_n himself_o express_o forbid_v by_o the_o prophet_n isaiah_n not_o speak_v thy_o own_o word_n 13._o which_o import_v talk_v and_o discourse_v of_o worldly_a matter_n on_o the_o sabbath_n day_n for_o where_o the_o lord_n have_v command_v the_o whole_a man_n to_o rest_v from_o worldly_a work_n there_o he_o command_v as_o the_o hand_n to_o rest_v from_o work_v so_o the_o tongue_n from_o talk_v of_o worldly_a matter_n but_o in_o the_o four_o commandment_n the_o lord_n have_v command_v the_o whole_a man_n to_o rest_v from_o worldly_a work_n where_o he_o say_v 10._o thou_o shall_v do_v no_o manner_n of_o work_n etc._n etc._n therefore_o he_o command_v the_o tongue_n to_o rest_v from_o talk_v of_o worldly_a matter_n as_o well_o as_o the_o hand_n from_o work_v of_o servile_a and_o worldly_a work_n how_o blame-worthy_a then_o be_v they_o who_o make_v the_o lord_n day_n a_o reckoning-day_n with_o workman_n and_o servant_n or_o at_o least_o a_o visit_a day_n among_o their_o friend_n and_o neighbour_n and_o so_o confequent_o a_o day_n of_o idle_a tattle_n about_o their_o profit_n pleasure_n or_o other_o man_n matter_n 5_o as_o from_o worldly_a word_n so_o from_o worldly_a thought_n as_o much_o as_o we_o can_v for_o 1_o know_v that_o every_o commandment_n extend_v to_o our_o very_a thought_n bind_v they_o as_o well_o as_o to_o the_o outward_a action_n ex_fw-la gr_n the_o six_o commandment_n from_o murderous_a thought_n as_o well_o as_o from_o the_o act_n of_o murder_n the_o seven_o from_o adulterous_a and_o lustful_a thought_n as_o well_o as_o from_o the_o act_n of_o adultery_n the_o eight_o from_o covetous_a thought_n as_o well_o as_o from_o the_o act_n of_o covetousness_n 2_o know_v that_o the_o lord_n require_v not_o only_o the_o outward_a man_n and_o external_a action_n to_o be_v consecrate_v unto_o he_o but_o especial_o the_o inward_a man_n in_o which_o regard_n we_o ought_v 27._o as_o much_o as_o possible_o we_o can_v to_o sequester_v our_o thought_n from_o worldly_a matter_n that_o they_o may_v be_v whole_o take_v up_o with_o spiritual_a and_o heavenly_a meditation_n 6_o there_o be_v another_o rest_n expect_v from_o every_o one_o on_o the_o lord_n day_n and_o that_o be_v a_o rest_v from_o sin_n which_o we_o ought_v to_o do_v as_o much_o as_o in_o we_o lie_v at_o all_o time_n but_o especial_o on_o the_o lord_n day_n which_o ought_v to_o be_v keep_v as_o a_o holy_a rest_n and_o true_o we_o can_v offer_v unto_o god_n a_o great_a indignity_n than_o to_o serve_v the_o devil_n in_o the_o work_n of_o darkness_n on_o the_o lord_n day_n which_o be_v consecrate_v to_o the_o honour_n and_o service_n of_o god_n thus_o much_o of_o the_o first_o particular_a requisite_a to_o the_o sanctification_n of_o the_o lord_n day_n namely_o a_o observe_v of_o a_o rest_n ii_o come_v we_o now_o to_o the_o second_o viz._n a_o consecrate_v that_o rest_n whole_o to_o the_o worship_n and_o service_n of_o god_n for_o it_o be_v not_o enough_o that_o we_o keep_v a_o rest_n but_o we_o must_v keep_v a_o holy_a rest_n bare_o to_o rest_v on_o the_o sabbath_n day_n be_v but_o a_o sabbath_n of_o beast_n we_o must_v remember_v the_o sabbath_n day_n to_o keep_v it_o holy_a for_o this_o be_v the_o chief_a end_n whereunto_o the_o outward_a rest_n tend_v now_o the_o consecration_n of_o the_o sabbath_n rest_n consist_v 1_o in_o our_o preparation_n thereunto_o 2_o in_o a_o conscionable_a performance_n of_o those_o duty_n the_o lord_n than_o require_v of_o we_o which_o may_v be_v bring_v to_o two_o head_n viz._n 1_o duty_n of_o piety_n 2_o work_n of_o mercy_n duty_n of_o piety_n be_v of_o three_o sort_n viz_o 1_o public_a 2_o private_a 3_o secret_n the_o which_o because_o they_o be_v interchangeable_o mix_v with_o one_o another_o therefore_o i_o shall_v interchangeable_o speak_v of_o they_o the_o duty_n to_o be_v perform_v by_o way_n of_o preparation_n be_v these_o 1_o remember_v the_o day_n beforehand_o to_o the_o end_n you_o may_v so_o order_v and_o dispose_v of_o your_o worldly_a affair_n that_o they_o may_v be_v dispatch_v in_o convenient_a time_n on_o the_o eve_n of_o the_o sabbath_n that_o so_o both_o yourselves_o and_o servant_n may_v go_v to_o bed_n in_o such_o time_n that_o your_o body_n may_v be_v well_o refresh_v with_o sleep_n and_o your_o mind_n fit_v for_o the_o duty_n of_o the_o day_n 8._o this_o the_o lord_n intimate_v in_o the_o begin_n of_o the_o four_o commandment_n say_v remember_v to_o keep_v holy_a the_o sabbath_n day_n where_o by_o remember_v it_o may_v be_v mean_v a_o mind_v of_o it_o before_o hand_n how_o blame_v worthy_a then_o be_v they_o who_o sit_v up_o themselves_o and_o keep_v their_o servant_n so_o late_o up_o in_o the_o night_n before_o the_o sabbath_n that_o they_o be_v enforce_v to_o lie_v long_o in_o their_o bed_n than_o ordinary_a on_o the_o sabbath_n day_n yea_o and_o when_o they_o be_v come_v into_o the_o congregation_n be_v fit_a to_o sleep_v than_o
