people_n may_v be_v persuade_v that_o those_o addition_n and_o corruption_n be_v either_o part_n of_o christian_a religion_n or_o necessary_a mean_n to_o promote_v it_o and_o these_o addition_n and_o corruption_n be_v the_o thing_n which_o we_o call_v popery_n and_o not_o any_o other_o thing_n though_o hold_v and_o do_v by_o papist_n which_o yet_o be_v agreeable_a to_o the_o scripture_n and_o which_o other_o christian_n hold_v and_o do_v as_o well_o as_o they_o i_o do_v not_o say_v nor_o indeed_o think_v that_o the_o first_o author_n and_o beginner_n of_o popery_n have_v in_o prospect_n or_o do_v practice_v all_o the_o addition_n and_o corruption_n which_o afterward_o be_v find_v out_o by_o their_o successor_n as_o necessary_a to_o secure_v and_o uphold_v the_o usurp_v power_n and_o greatness_n no_o more_o do_v their_o predecessor_n the_o false_a apostle_n begin_v with_o all_o the_o evil_a device_n which_o they_o be_v afterward_o lead_v to_o to_o carry_v on_o their_o design_n i_o shall_v now_o therefore_o come_v to_o instance_n in_o some_o of_o those_o addition_n and_o to_o show_v how_o they_o fall_v in_o with_o this_o worldly_a design_n project_v by_o the_o author_n of_o popery_n and_o how_o like_a they_o look_v to_o what_o be_v design_v and_o do_v by_o the_o false_a apostle_n it_o may_v be_v every_o one_o of_o those_o addition_n in_o difference_n between_o protestant_n and_o papist_n may_v not_o direct_o tend_v to_o promote_v their_o worldly_a design_n though_o many_o of_o they_o do_v remote_o which_o do_v not_o immediate_o but_o yet_o that_o will_v afford_v they_o no_o relief_n though_o so_o it_o shall_v be_v because_o when_o man_n invent_v some_o error_n for_o no_o other_o reason_n but_o because_o they_o be_v serviceable_a to_o they_o in_o
thing_n by_o what_o have_v be_v fair_o argue_v from_o scripture_n by_o many_o to_o satisfy_v doubtful_a mind_n concern_v they_o i_o be_o very_o confident_a they_o may_v easy_o come_v to_o plenary_a satisfaction_n in_o their_o own_o mind_n touch_v this_o one_o thing_n viz._n that_o to_o bear_v with_o those_o thing_n for_o the_o peace_n of_o the_o church_n and_o the_o interest_n of_o religion_n in_o general_n be_v not_o so_o inexpedient_a as_o it_o be_v by_o divide_v the_o church_n by_o forsake_v that_o worship_n to_o expose_v our_o religion_n to_o the_o scorn_n and_o contempt_n of_o atheist_n infidel_n and_o papist_n and_o to_o occasion_n alas_o too_o many_o other_o to_o become_v such_o and_o as_o it_o be_v to_o confound_v and_o unsettle_v the_o mind_n of_o well_o meaning_n but_o injudicious_a people_n and_o to_o betray_v they_o into_o the_o hand_n of_o seducer_n and_o as_o it_o be_v to_o divert_v man_n mind_n from_o the_o serious_a consideration_n study_n and_o practice_n of_o the_o weighty_a matter_n of_o religion_n and_o to_o engage_v they_o in_o contentious_a jangle_n and_o uncharitable_a revile_n and_o censuring_n to_o the_o destruction_n of_o true_a piety_n and_o place_v religion_n much_o in_o opinion_n and_o in_o be_v of_o a_o different_a form_n and_o party_n and_o last_o as_o it_o be_v to_o expose_v we_o all_o to_o the_o danger_n of_o the_o break_n in_o of_o popery_n by_o strengthen_v their_o hand_n who_o be_v of_o that_o way_n and_o by_o weaken_v our_o own_o and_o by_o encourage_v they_o in_o hope_n of_o success_n by_o our_o division_n to_o practice_v upon_o we_o and_o by_o all_o their_o art_n to_o improve_v the_o advantage_n we_o put_v into_o their_o hand_n by_o our_o distraction_n and_o yet_o these_o and_o such_o like_a have_v be_v the_o effect_n of_o divide_v our_o church_n and_o if_o to_o bear_v with_o those_o external_a circumstance_n of_o worship_n for_o the_o sake_n of_o the_o peace_n and_o edification_n of_o the_o church_n and_o secure_n to_o we_o our_o religion_n be_v not_o so_o inexpedient_a as_o it_o be_v to_o draw_v on_o we_o the_o foresay_a bad_a effect_n of_o our_o division_n by_o withdraw_v from_o the_o worship_n itself_o for_o the_o sake_n of_o those_o circumstance_n then_o the_o rule_n before_o lay_v down_o and_o according_a to_o which_o st._n paul_n act_v show_v which_o of_o these_o inexpediency_n in_o case_n both_o shall_v be_v such_o be_v to_o be_v yield_v to_o and_o bear_v with_o that_o the_o other_o may_v be_v avoid_v now_o that_o to_o bear_v with_o the_o foresay_a circumstance_n of_o worship_n be_v not_o so_o inexpedient_a as_o it_o be_v to_o cause_v division_n and_o the_o consequent_n of_o they_o by_o forsake_v the_o worship_n for_o their_o sake_n will_v easy_o appear_v by_o this_o viz._n in_o that_o the_o lord_n have_v not_o declare_v himself_o against_o the_o former_a as_o he_o have_v do_v against_o the_o latter_a although_o god_n have_v express_o appoint_v the_o substantial_a part_n of_o his_o worship_n as_o the_o ministration_n of_o the_o word_n prayer_n and_o sacrament_n yet_o he_o have_v not_o so_o express_o appoint_v the_o external_a form_n method_n manner_n and_o circumstance_n of_o administration_n as_o whether_o it_o shall_v or_o shall_v not_o be_v administer_v according_a to_o the_o external_a circumstance_n require_v in_o our_o liturgy_n but_o have_v leave_v thing_n of_o that_o nature_n to_o be_v order_v by_o general_a rule_n of_o education_n comeliness_n and_o order_n according_a to_o the_o best_a skill_n and_o prudence_n they_o have_v into_o who_o hand_n the_o providence_n of_o god_n have_v put_v the_o order_n of_o affair_n of_o that_o nature_n and_o although_o the_o external_a form_n of_o administration_n of_o god_n public_a worship_n may_v be_v comparative_o better_a in_o one_o nation_n or_o church_n than_o in_o another_o when_o but_o all_o one_o in_o substance_n as_o it_o will_v be_v in_o particular_a congregation_n also_o if_o all_o minister_n be_v leave_v to_o their_o own_o liberty_n therein_o yet_o the_o mean_a of_o they_o will_v not_o be_v unlawful_a so_o long_o as_o nothing_o be_v do_v in_o opposition_n to_o any_o divine_a precept_n or_o to_o the_o defeat_n of_o the_o end_n of_o the_o external_a administration_n of_o god_n public_a worship_n but_o god_n have_v not_o left_a man_n to_o any_o such_o latitude_n to_o cause_n
