those_o that_o search_n into_o this_o great_a depth_n and_o vigorous_o endeavour_v to_o apply_v it_o to_o the_o use_v of_o life_n may_v be_v and_o often_o be_v very_o instrumental_a to_o the_o good_a of_o mankind_n and_o a_o more_o than_o common_a blessing_n to_o the_o earth_n as_o for_o those_o that_o apply_v themselves_o to_o the_o speculative_a part_n of_o those_o study_n i_o believe_v these_o also_o meet_v with_o a_o suitable_a reward_n to_o all_o their_o labour_n in_o the_o delightful_a enlargement_n of_o their_o mind_n and_o more_o extend_a capacity_n of_o thought_n which_o qualify_v they_o the_o better_a to_o launch_v out_o into_o the_o deep_a abyss_n of_o truth_n and_o to_o maintain_v a_o commerce_n with_o the_o far_o distant_a region_n of_o the_o intellectual_a world_n beside_o these_o study_n which_o be_v esteem_v by_o many_o as_o dry_v and_o barren_a may_v be_v direct_o exceed_v fruitful_a of_o good_a thought_n in_o the_o soul_n whilst_o in_o the_o strange_a harmony_n of_o number_n and_o the_o wonderful_a but_o please_a proportion_n of_o line_n and_o figure_n it_o have_v a_o clear_a ere_fw-we view_n and_o more_o affect_a prospect_n of_o his_o adorable_a perfection_n who_o make_v all_o thing_n in_o number_n weight_n and_o measure_n but_o i_o be_o insensible_o slide_v into_o a_o large_a field_n of_o matter_n when_o i_o have_v not_o time_n to_o show_v the_o great_a vsefulness_n of_o all_o the_o particular_a branch_n of_o learning_n though_o this_o will_v most_o effectual_o evince_v the_o great_a charity_n of_o these_o foundation_n which_o happy_o promote_v they_o but_o this_o be_v less_o necessary_a in_o this_o place_n where_o man_n experience_n speak_v more_o feel_o upon_o this_o matter_n than_o word_n can_v then_o as_o for_o religion_n in_o such_o charitable_a foundation_n how_o be_v man_n bring_v up_o not_o only_o under_o a_o continual_a sense_n but_o exercise_n of_o it_o and_o they_o must_v be_v proof_n against_o very_o great_a mean_n of_o grace_n that_o be_v not_o profit_v thereby_o the_o public_a duty_n of_o a_o christian_a so_o often_o and_o solemn_o perform_v must_v natural_o have_v a_o great_a force_v upon_o the_o soul_n and_o tend_v to_o make_v religion_n habitual_a by_o the_o constant_a practice_n of_o it_o herein_o man_n have_v strict_a precept_n and_o frequent_a opportunity_n of_o practice_n good_a instruction_n and_o good_a example_n set_v before_o they_o the_o one_o represent_v the_o reasonableness_n the_o other_o the_o practicableness_n of_o true_a goodness_n and_o it_o can_v be_v no_o easy_a matter_n to_o rebel_v against_o so_o much_o light_n and_o to_o stifle_v all_o those_o good_a motion_n which_o the_o happy_a circumstance_n of_o their_o life_n do_v force_n upon_o they_o but_o second_o that_o man_n may_v effectual_o labour_v to_o these_o great_a purpose_n they_o here_o find_v a_o agreeable_a encouragement_n attend_v upon_o their_o labour_n the_o convenience_n of_o life_n which_o these_o foundation_n afford_v be_v a_o great_a encouragement_n to_o make_v themselves_o meet_v to_o receive_v they_o it_o be_v indeed_o a_o reproach_n to_o our_o nature_n that_o we_o shall_v stand_v in_o need_n of_o any_o additional_a encouragement_n to_o be_v wise_a and_o good_a wisdom_n and_o goodness_n be_v themselves_o a_o sufficient_a reward_n and_o strong_a incentives_n to_o the_o pursuit_n of_o they_o but_o yet_o the_o general_a backwardness_n of_o man_n to_o these_o thing_n make_v it_o necessary_a to_o add_v the_o force_n of_o other_o motive_n beside_o it_o be_v very_o fit_a for_o the_o credit_n and_o reputation_n of_o learning_n and_o virtue_n in_o the_o world_n that_o as_o happy_a circumstance_n shall_v attend_v they_o as_o any_o other_o employment_n therefore_o it_o be_v provide_v that_o they_o who_o set_v themselves_o to_o seek_v after_o wisdom_n shall_v have_v their_o reward_n the_o possession_n of_o those_o advantage_n the_o hope_n of_o which_o be_v a_o spur_n to_o some_o shall_v be_v a_o great_a encouragement_n to_o other_o and_o strong_a motive_n to_o diligence_n and_o industry_n which_o first_o qualify_v they_o for_o and_o then_o render_v they_o worthy_a of_o these_o enjoyment_n but_o further_o the_o countenance_n which_o be_v here_o give_v to_o learning_n by_o that_o fellowship_n in_o study_n which_o be_v the_o privilege_n of_o these_o public_a place_n of_o education_n may_v be_v think_v no_o inconsiderable_a encouragement_n company_n make_v any_o kind_n of_o labour_n go_v down_o with_o cheerfulness_n and_o abate_v much_o of_o the_o fatigue_n of_o any_o work_n this_o render_v that_o business_n a_o pleasure_n which_o will_v be_v esteem_v a_o burden_n and_o toil_n be_v we_o alone_a companion_n in_o this_o as_o in_o any_o other_o travel_n insensible_o cheat_v we_o of_o the_o tediousness_n of_o our_o journey_n and_o make_v
we_o less_o mindful_a of_o our_o weariness_n and_o more_o unwilling_a to_o complain_v of_o it_o for_o there_o be_v some_o aversion_n in_o our_o nature_n to_o be_v outdo_v by_o our_o equal_n or_o distance_v by_o those_o who_o have_v only_o the_o same_o advantage_n in_o common_a with_o ourselves_o what_o need_n be_v there_o in_o the_o three_o place_n particular_o to_o mention_v the_o great_a obligation_n which_o these_o place_n lay_v upon_o man_n to_o excel_v in_o the_o knowledge_n and_o practice_n of_o virtue_n and_o goodness_n this_o have_v be_v in_o some_o measure_n hint_v at_o already_o for_o their_o opportunity_n be_v obligation_n their_o encouragement_n obligation_n time_n and_o leisure_n and_o the_o privilege_n they_o enjoy_v the_o end_n and_o design_n of_o their_o advantage_n which_o the_o other_o enjoy_v it_o be_v very_o natural_a at_o least_o it_o be_v very_o reasonable_a for_o any_o one_o to_o consider_v why_o he_o be_v place_v in_o such_o or_o such_o a_o the_o whole_a therefore_o since_o learning_n and_o religion_n be_v so_o high_o advantageous_a to_o the_o world_n since_o the_o several_a branch_n of_o they_o do_v aim_n at_o the_o reparation_n of_o those_o mischief_n which_o be_v occasion_v by_o the_o fall_n with_o reference_n either_o to_o our_o body_n or_o our_o soul_n and_o since_o the_o advancement_n of_o knowledge_n and_o piety_n be_v much_o further_v by_o these_o public_a foundation_n which_o afford_v great_a opportunity_n great_a encouragement_n and_o great_a obligation_n to_o these_o purpose_n this_o show_v the_o abundant_a excellency_n of_o that_o public_a charity_n from_o which_o such_o public_a benefit_n do_v arise_v and_o sure_o what_o be_v pregnant_a with_o such_o great_a and_o good_a design_n and_o produce_v such_o bless_a effect_n will_v not_o ordinary_o fail_v of_o the_o praise_n of_o man_n at_o least_o not_o of_o the_o approbation_n and_o praise_n of_o god_n which_o lead_v i_o to_o the_o next_o general_a head_n of_o my_o discourse_n under_o which_o i_o be_o to_o show_v second_o the_o peculiar_a honour_n which_o such_o public_a work_n of_o charity_n reflect_v upon_o he_o that_o do_v they_o his_o meet_v with_o honour_n from_o the_o fountain_n of_o it_o whilst_o man_n behold_v such_o stately_a edifice_n as_o these_o how_o natural_o be_v they_o lead_v to_o consider_v the_o largeness_n of_o his_o mind_n from_o whence_o they_o spring_v and_o whilst_o they_o consider_v the_o purpose_n for_o which_o they_o serve_v admire_v the_o extensive_a goodness_n of_o his_o design_n who_o for_o those_o purpose_n ordain_v they_o who_o like_o his_o creator_n so_o happy_o labour_v to_o rescue_v man_n out_o of_o the_o misery_n into_o which_o he_o be_v fall_v and_o have_v so_o great_a a_o desire_n for_o and_o pleasure_n in_o the_o prosperity_n of_o his_o servant_n certain_o the_o best_a way_n to_o measure_v the_o excellency_n of_o charity_n as_o well_o as_o of_o faith_n be_v by_o the_o work_v of_o it_o most_o man_n will_v inward_o esteem_v his_o virtue_n of_o which_o they_o see_v such_o glorious_a effect_n and_o out_o of_o justice_n to_o his_o character_n will_v endeavour_v to_o set_v forth_o all_o his_o praise_n lo_o this_o be_v the_o man_n which_o trust_v not_o in_o the_o multitude_n of_o his_o riches_n but_o according_a to_o solomon_n precept_n honour_v the_o lord_n with_o his_o substance_n and_o with_o more_o than_o the_o first-fruit_n of_o his_o increase_n this_o be_v the_o man_n who_o make_v to_o himself_o friend_n of_o the_o mammon_n of_o vrighteousness_n who_o when_o riches_n increase_v set_v not_o his_o heart_n upon_o they_o but_o disperse_v they_o abroad_o for_o the_o service_n of_o man_n and_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n this_o be_v the_o man_n who_o be_v proof_n against_o all_o the_o temptation_n which_o riches_n bring_v along_o with_o they_o be_v neither_o tempt_v by_o they_o to_o luxury_n nor_o covetousness_n neither_o to_o the_o lust_n of_o the_o flesh_n nor_o to_o the_o lust_n of_o the_o eye_n nor_o the_o pride_n of_o life_n but_o be_v a_o faithful_a steward_n of_o these_o dangerous_a gift_n of_o god_n such_o inward_a veneration_n must_v good_a man_n have_v of_o so_o much_o worth_n and_o by_o such_o approbation_n will_v they_o express_v what_o they_o inward_o admire_v even_o in_o this_o respect_n his_o righteousness_n endure_v for_o ever_o upon_o the_o heart_n and_o tongue_n of_o these_o man_n and_o will_v be_v as_o lasting_a as_o the_o effect_n of_o it_o even_o from_o generation_n to_o generation_n to_o this_o purpose_n we_o read_v in_o holy_a scripture_n that_o the_o memory_n of_o the_o just_a be_v bless_v he_o can_v well_o be_v remember_v without_o a_o kind_n of_o gaiety_n of_o thought_n and_o blessing_n be_v upon_o the_o head_n of_o he_o through_o who_o so_o many_o be_v true_o bless_v whilst_o the_o memory_n of_o the_o wicked_a shall_v rot_v that_o of_o the_o just_a shall_v live_v for_o evermore_o and_o as_o it_o be_v write_v two_o or_o three_o verse_n above_o this_o of_o my_o text_n the_o righteous_a shall_v be_v have_v in_o everlasting_a remembrance_n but_o then_o if_o in_o this_o respect_n the_o witness_n of_o than_o when_o they_o be_v summon_v by_o their_o maker_n to_o set_v a_o crown_n of_o pure_a gold_n upon_o his_o head_n for_o whereas_o god_n have_v express_o declare_v that_o they_o that_o honour_v he_o he_o will_v honour_v how_o must_v the_o administration_n of_o this_o service_n which_o be_v abundant_a by_o many_o thanksgiving_n unto_o god_n obtain_v from_o he_o a_o more_o than_o ordinary_a recompense_n of_o reward_n such_o glorious_a work_n be_v a_o great_a credit_n to_o religion_n and_o a_o most_o sensible_a demonstration_n of_o its_o power_n many_o be_v hence_o persuade_v to_o adore_v
