reverence_n in_o eat_v and_o drink_v the_o one_o than_o do_v so_o to_o the_o other_o they_o eat_v in_o god_n house_n just_a as_o they_o do_v in_o their_o own_o and_o make_v no_o distinction_n eat_n and_o drink_v unworthy_o we_o may_v full_o satisfy_v ourselves_o by_o consider_v the_o apostle_n deal_v with_o they_o in_o the_o latter_a part_n of_o this_o chapter_n where_o he_o fall_v upon_o that_o set_v man_n as_o far_o from_o discern_v the_o lord_n body_n and_o render_v they_o as_o unfit_a or_o unable_a to_o show_v any_o become_a respect_n to_o it_o as_o this_o disorder_n of_o the_o lord_n body_n and_o therefore_o in_o both_o case_n be_v as_o far_o from_o any_o due_a respect_n and_o reverence_n to_o it_o as_o the_o corinthian_n be_v i_o shall_v consider_v they_o distinct_o and_o examine_v they_o upon_o this_o reason_n of_o not_o discern_v the_o lord_n body_n 1._o gross_a ignorance_n i_o mean_v it_o in_o the_o great_a principle_n of_o christian_a religion_n especial_o in_o of_o christ_n body_n on_o the_o cross_n and_o the_o pour_v out_o of_o the_o other_o the_o shed_n of_o his_o blood_n for_o our_o redemption_n and_o that_o our_o communicate_v in_o these_o be_v communicate_v in_o the_o bless_a effect_n and_o benefit_n of_o both_o he_o do_v not_o know_v that_o by_o this_o solemn_a rite_n of_o religion_n he_o be_v to_o commemorate_v with_o gratitude_n and_o person_n that_o i_o be_o speak_v of_o in_o one_o case_n the_o sottish_a man_n neglect_v and_o think_v not_o of_o repentance_n but_o in_o the_o other_o he_o think_v and_o have_v some_o hope_n of_o it_o too_o he_o hope_v he_o may_v repent_v and_o reform_v hereafter_o though_o he_o be_v so_o miserable_a and_o vain_a as_o never_o to_o put_v these_o thought_n in_o execution_n so_o that_o in_o both_o case_n he_o be_v far_o enough_o from_o obstinacy_n and_o a_o wilful_a resolution_n never_o to_o repent_v so_o that_o still_o i_o say_v a_o resolve_v impenitent_a be_v scarce_o to_o be_v find_v in_o the_o whole_a crowd_n of_o christian_n no_o not_o the_o most_o profligate_v and_o profane_v among_o they_o much_o less_o second_o among_o they_o that_o keep_v up_o the_o practice_n of_o religion_n and_o either_o do_v or_o will_v come_v to_o the_o holy_a sacrament_n if_o this_o fear_n do_v not_o hinder_v they_o it_o be_v not_o to_o be_v suppose_v that_o any_o of_o these_o be_v resolute_o and_o design_o impenitent_a if_o they_o shall_v they_o will_v give_v the_o lie_n to_o themselves_o have_v not_o only_o their_o impenitency_n but_o the_o most_o wretched_a hypocrisy_n to_o answer_v for_o and_o so_o be_v double_o unworthy_a shall_v they_o communicate_v in_o this_o service_n but_o this_o case_n be_v clear_a and_o needs_o no_o further_a inquiry_n into_o such_o person_n be_v in_o a_o actual_a course_n of_o religion_n and_o the_o service_n of_o it_o and_o far_o enough_o from_o that_o wilful_a impenitence_n that_o we_o be_v discourse_v about_o they_o be_v so_o far_o from_o resolve_v never_o to_o repent_v that_o their_o only_a fear_n be_v they_o repent_v not_o enough_o that_o they_o be_v not_o reform_v and_o holy_a enough_o and_o consequent_o be_v far_o enough_o from_o the_o danger_n of_o eat_v and_o drink_v unworthy_o upon_o this_o reason_n but_o this_o case_n of_o impenitence_n may_v yet_o require_v some_o further_a inquiry_n into_o in_o order_n to_o some_o scrupulous_a person_n full_a satisfaction_n in_o it_o for_o it_o may_v yet_o be_v doubt_v whether_o nothing_o but_o resolve_v wilful_a impenitence_n do_v bring_v a_o man_n within_o the_o danger_n of_o this_o eat_v unworthy_o be_v it_o not_o better_o for_o this_o man_n not_o to_o come_v to_o the_o holy_a sacrament_n at_o all_o this_o be_v a_o case_n that_o will_v deserve_v to_o be_v consider_v and_o the_o rather_o because_o i_o fear_v it_o too_o often_o happen_v and_o be_v know_v to_o be_v matter_n of_o common_a scruple_n in_o this_o thing_n man_n be_v too_o common_o false_a to_o those_o good_a promise_n that_o they_o make_v to_o god_n and_o themselves_o and_o those_o good_a purpose_n that_o they_o fix_v upon_o at_o the_o holy_a sacrament_n and_o know_v this_o too_o well_o they_o be_v afraid_a to_o come_v to_o the_o sacrament_n for_o fear_v they_o shall_v not_o be_v so_o good_a as_o their_o promise_n their_o own_o sad_a experience_n have_v teach_v they_o how_o desultory_n and_o unconstant_a their_o resolution_n and_o temper_n be_v how_o strong_a the_o temptation_n they_o may_v afterward_o meet_v with_o and_o how_o weak_a their_o own_o virtuous_a good_a purpose_n yet_o be_v and_o therefore_o they_o think_v it_o safe_a to_o stay_v a_o while_n till_o they_o have_v make_v some_o trial_n and_o
the_o fault_n a_o exception_n against_o or_o dispensation_n against_o the_o duty_n nor_o say_v one_o word_n that_o may_v allow_v or_o encourage_v their_o intermit_a of_o it_o by_o reason_n thereof_o from_o whence_o i_o think_v i_o may_v safe_o collect_v thus_o much_o that_o what_o the_o apostle_n say_v to_o the_o corinthian_n concern_v the_o sin_n and_o danger_n of_o eat_v and_o drink_v such_o thought_n of_o this_o matter_n then_o as_o some_o man_n have_v now_o he_o never_o think_v that_o the_o sin_n or_o danger_n of_o do_v a_o duty_n amiss_o may_v be_v make_v a_o exception_n against_o do_v it_o at_o all_o or_o that_o threaten_a damnation_n to_o eat_v and_o drink_v unworthy_o shall_v scare_v man_n from_o eat_v and_o drink_v at_o all_o he_o take_v what_o care_n he_o can_v begin_v with_o the_o first_o of_o these_o consideration_n which_o be_v indeed_o the_o foundation_n of_o all_o the_o rest_n and_o which_o when_o i_o have_v clear_v the_o reasonableness_n of_o the_o other_o will_v easy_o follow_v the_o argument_n be_v this_o the_o communicate_v in_o the_o holy_a sacrament_n be_v a_o plain_a express_a necessary_a duty_n i_o shall_v think_v i_o need_v not_o be_v look_v upon_o the_o sacrament_n as_o a_o thing_n of_o choice_n and_o leave_v to_o their_o own_o freedom_n whether_o they_o will_v observe_v it_o or_o not_o but_o tie_v upon_o they_o by_o plain_a and_o peremptory_a precept_n and_o make_v matter_n of_o their_o necessary_a and_o fix_a duty_n and_o to_o the_o end_n that_o all_o christian_n may_v look_v upon_o and_o esteem_v it_o as_o such_o i_o beg_v that_o these_o few_o thing_n among_o many_o other_o may_v be_v consider_v by_o they_o 1._o that_o the_o holy_a sacrament_n be_v institute_v ordain_v and_o command_v by_o our_o lord_n in_o word_n as_o express_v and_o plain_a as_o ever_o any_o thing_n can_v or_o ever_o be_v command_v by_o he_o i_o shall_v need_v for_o your_o satisfaction_n in_o this_o but_o bare_o to_o repeat_v the_o word_n of_o same_o devotion_n and_o height_n of_o soul_n the_o same_o sequester_v our_o mind_n from_o all_o other_o employment_n and_o thought_n the_o same_o high_a thought_n of_o god_n and_o his_o goodness_n the_o same_o close_a attention_n of_o mind_n the_o same_o care_n to_o free_v ourselves_o from_o all_o injustice_n wrath_n uncleanness_n and_o every_o thing_n that_o may_v render_v we_o unfit_a to_o this_o duty_n so_o well_o as_o we_o shall_v be_v no_o great_a than_o what_o it_o be_v in_o fail_v to_o do_v other_o so_o and_o we_o be_v not_o only_o as_o incident_a to_o fail_n in_o do_v other_o service_n of_o religion_n amiss_o as_o well_o as_o this_o but_o we_o contract_v as_o great_a guilt_n in_o they_o as_o in_o this_o some_o man_n make_v a_o mighty_a stir_n and_o other_o perplex_v and_o puzzle_v themselves_o with_o fear_n of_o a_o extraordinary_a guilt_n if_o they_o do_v not_o receive_v the_o holy_a sacrament_n just_a as_o they_o shall_v do_v and_o this_o guilt_n they_o dread_v be_o sure_a these_o be_v sin_n of_o a_o very_a grand_a guilt_n and_o i_o be_o sure_a the_o holy_a scripture_n always_o speak_v of_o they_o as_o such_o i_o will_v to_o god_n man_n will_v sober_o consider_v that_o they_o be_v so_o we_o may_v then_o hope_v to_o see_v the_o public_a worship_n of_o god_n perform_v at_o another_o rate_n than_o general_o it_o be_v and_o i_o add_v that_o according_a to_o the_o common_a language_n of_o scripture_n they_o be_v sin_n every_o whit_n as_o big_a of_o as_o deep_a a_o dye_n as_o grand_a guilt_n as_o communicate_v undue_o in_o the_o holy_a sacrament_n be_v or_o can_v reasonable_o be_v think_v to_o be_v when_o any_o man_n will_v undertake_v to_o make_v out_o the_o difference_n upon_o any_o sound_a reason_n we_o may_v begin_v to_o question_v this_o but_o till_o then_o shall_v not_o let_v our_o own_o make_v surmise_n and_o fear_n prevail_v upon_o we_o to_o the_o contrary_a and_o fill_v our_o mind_n with_o unreasonable_a apprehension_n and_o unworthy_o or_o pray_v unworthy_o the_o guilt_n be_v real_o the_o same_o in_o one_o case_n as_o it_o be_v in_o the_o other_o and_o therefore_o equal_o to_o be_v dread_v and_o avoid_v in_o both_o and_o if_o it_o be_v a_o honest_a true_a dread_n of_o sin_n that_o be_v upon_o we_o it_o will_v startle_v we_o and_o render_v we_o afraid_a of_o it_o in_o one_o case_n as_o well_o as_o in_o the_o other_o it_o be_v a_o stale_a cheat_n that_o the_o enemy_n of_o soul_n have_v too_o often_o put_v upon_o man_n in_o render_v they_o mighty_a tender_a and_o scrupulous_a in_o some_o thing_n but_o careless_a altogether_o in_o other_o as_o if_o care_n in_o one_o instance_n of_o our_o duty_n will_v atone_v our_o wilful_a regardlesness_n in_o another_o s._n james_n i_o be_o sure_a tell_v we_o another_o story_n jam._n 2.10.11_o where_o in_o his_o judgement_n he_o that_o wilful_o indulge_v himself_o in_o the_o breach_n of_o one_o precept_n of_o the_o law_n be_v guilty_a of_o all_o because_o the_o same_o authority_n of_o god_n be_v contemn_v in_o one_o that_o be_v in_o another_o or_o in_o all_o for_o he_o that_o say_v do_v not_o commit_v adultery_n say_v also_o do_v not_o kill_v etc._n etc._n guilty_a of_o i_o have_v already_o say_v their_o miscarriage_n may_v well_o be_v count_v eat_v and_o drink_v unworthy_o indeed_o but_o therefore_o to_o infer_v that_o every_o failure_n to_o eat_v to_o understand_v himself_o and_o to_o reflect_v upon_o his_o own_o action_n and_o much_o more_o easy_a than_o to_o arrive_v to_o such_o a_o pitch_n of_o brutish_a carelessness_n insensibleness_n and_o inconsideration_n as_o to_o be_v perfect_o a_o stranger_n to_o his_o one_o state_n it_o be_v not_o in_o this_o case_n as_o it_o be_v with_o a_o merchant_n who_o may_v run_v on_o and_o undo_v
