to_o its_o doctrine_n so_o that_o there_o be_v great_a reason_n in_o those_o day_n for_o the_o strong_a to_o bear_v with_o the_o weak_a because_o the_o difficulty_n of_o right_o judge_v and_o discern_v thing_n be_v very_o strong_a and_o masculine_a enough_o to_o throw_v down_o weak_a mind_n but_o when_o weakness_n be_v pretend_v to_o make_v way_n for_o confusion_n when_o man_n will_v pretend_v they_o be_v weak_a at_o one_o time_n and_o will_v take_v it_o amiss_o when_o you_o go_v to_o instruct_v they_o as_o such_o at_o another_o this_o look_n rather_o like_o wilfulness_n than_o the_o weakness_n st._n paul_n here_o mean_v but_o i_o be_o very_a well_o aware_a that_o there_o be_v a_o very_a popular_a and_o current_a observation_n in_o our_o day_n which_o seem_v a_o great_a objection_n against_o what_o i_o have_v hitherto_o say_v and_o that_o be_v that_o man_n can_v no_o more_o be_v suppose_v to_o be_v alike_o in_o judgement_n than_o they_o be_v in_o feature_n but_o the_o case_n be_v not_o at_o all_o the_o same_o man_n will_v no_o doubt_n be_v all_o exact_o feature_v alike_o if_o god_n have_v design_v they_o shall_v be_v so_o and_o have_v draw_v they_o all_o as_o copy_n from_o the_o same_o original_a but_o he_o have_v give_v we_o all_o the_o very_a selfsame_a law_n and_o rule_n he_o have_v give_v we_o the_o same_o faculty_n to_o judge_v with_o and_o therefore_o it_o may_v just_o be_v expect_v we_o shall_v all_o think_v the_o same_o thing_n one_o soul_n have_v no_o unlikeness_n to_o another_o but_o only_o from_o the_o different_a humour_n and_o sentiment_n it_o receive_v and_o if_o the_o rule_n be_v all_o the_o same_o to_o manage_v our_o soul_n by_o whence_o come_v the_o unlikeness_n not_o from_o the_o necessary_a impress_v feature_n of_o the_o soul_n but_o from_o the_o wrong_a apprehension_n and_o management_n of_o the_o rule_n so_o that_o it_o be_v no_o fault_n not_o to_o be_v alike_o in_o outward_a feature_n because_o god_n never_o design_v we_o all_o the_o selfsame_a external_a aspect_n but_o it_o be_v a_o crime_n not_o to_o think_v the_o selfsame_a truth_n according_a to_o christ_n jesus_n because_o this_o be_v the_o reason_n of_o god_n give_v we_o one_o unalterable_a rule_n that_o we_o shall_v with_o one_o mind_n and_o one_o heart_n glorify_v he_o but_o i_o must_v pass_v to_o the_o several_a consideration_n some_o to_o the_o strong_a and_o some_o to_o the_o weak_a and_o so_o conclude_v 1._o to_o the_o strong_a i_o desire_v they_o to_o consider_v these_o follow_a thing_n with_o reference_n to_o the_o weak_a by_o the_o weak_a i_o mean_v those_o that_o be_v real_o so_o and_o not_o such_o as_o use_v it_o for_o a_o obstinate_a and_o ungovernable_a pretence_n 1._o i_o desire_v the_o strong_a to_o consider_v that_o their_o weak_a brethren_n seem_v to_o have_v somewhat_o to_o say_v for_o themselves_o when_o i_o hear_v a_o man_n tell_v i_o that_o he_o have_v be_v educate_v in_o such_o a_o opinion_n and_o his_o parent_n before_o he_o nay_o and_o that_o he_o do_v not_o owe_v his_o opinion_n only_o to_o the_o font_n but_o that_o he_o have_v strive_v and_o pray_v and_o read_v and_o consider_v and_o confer_v that_o after_o all_o his_o examination_n he_o can_v find_v that_o he_o have_v any_o love_n for_o any_o opinion_n more_o than_o his_o unconquerable_a persuasion_n fix_v he_o i_o say_v when_o we_o hear_v a_o man_n sincere_o and_o from_o the_o bottom_n of_o his_o heart_n say_v that_o he_o can_v distinguish_v thing_n as_o other_o can_n that_o he_o can_v think_v that_o indifferent_a which_o other_o do_v that_o he_o can_v admit_v thing_n that_o be_v real_o lawful_a in_o other_o opinion_n to_o appear_v so_o in_o he_o a_o man_n that_o be_v strong_a aught_o to_o pity_v such_o a_o one_o weakness_n though_o to_o my_o apprehension_n it_o be_v very_o strange_a if_o what_o these_o man_n tell_v we_o be_v true_a it_o be_v very_o odd_a that_o a_o man_n out_o of_o the_o church_n shall_v tell_v we_o by_o his_o eyesight_n that_o a_o house_n be_v a_o house_n a_o tree_n a_o tree_n and_o a_o man_n a_o man_n and_o see_v these_o thing_n as_o clear_o as_o any_o man_n else_o and_o yet_o have_v this_o man_n into_o a_o church_n and_o you_o can_v persuade_v he_o but_o that_o a_o plain_a white_v wall_n be_v a_o carve_a or_o a_o molten_n image_n for_o this_o be_v real_o the_o case_n take_v these_o man_n in_o worldly_a business_n and_o they_o be_v as_o intelligent_a and_o as_o strong_a and_o as_o rational_a as_o other_o but_o in_o religion_n they_o be_v as_o odd_a and_o aukerd_a and_o untractable_a though_o methinks_v it_o be_v very_o sad_a that_o that_o religion_n which_o christ_n design_v to_o enlighten_v shall_v cloud_v and_o maze_n their_o understanding_n but_o yet_o thus_o we_o oft_o see_v it_o be_v man_n be_v thus_o either_o in_o pretence_n or_o reality_n weak_a however_o that_o be_v we_o must_v leave_v they_o to_o god_n bear_v with_o their_o weakness_n and_o be_v glad_a to_o see_v they_o in_o our_o communion_n and_o if_o i_o can_v any_o thing_n judge_n of_o the_o temper_n of_o those_o that_o be_v of_o the_o church_n of_o england_n i_o dare_v vouch_v for_o the_o wise_a and_o sober_a part_n of_o they_o that_o they_o do_v not_o disdain_v communion_n with_o the_o weak_a brother_n but_o alas_o the_o case_n be_v now_o alter_v from_o that_o in_o st._n paul_n day_n the_o weak_a refuse_n communion_n with_o the_o strong_a which_o seem_v to_o give_v a_o great_a contradiction_n to_o their_o pretend_a weakness_n for_o those_o that_o real_o know_v themselves_o weak_a will_v not_o throw_v themselves_o out_o to_o the_o wide_a world_n and_o pretend_v to_o take_v great_a care_n for_o themselves_o than_o god_n in_o his_o providence_n and_o their_o governor_n by_o their_o great_a care_n offer_v to_o they_o but_o 2._o the_o strong_a aught_o to_o bear_v with_o and_o pity_v the_o weak_a in_o that_o they_o expose_v their_o person_n and_o fortune_n to_o the_o censure_n of_o the_o magistrate_n upon_o needless_a thing_n real_a martyrdom_n and_o lay_v down_o our_o life_n and_o estate_n for_o the_o truth_n be_v high_o commendable_a in_o the_o eye_n of_o god_n and_o man_n but_o to_o withstand_v and_o contend_v with_o the_o supreme_a magistrate_n when_o he_o be_v do_v the_o true_a part_n of_o his_o duty_n be_v real_o a_o very_a great_a evil_n for_o a_o good_a magistrate_n be_v the_o great_a crown_n and_o blessing_n of_o a_o nation_n for_o by_o prudent_a exercise_n of_o good_a and_o righteous_a law_n he_o reduce_v many_o to_o a_o good_a and_o right_a understanding_n of_o thing_n that_o it_o may_v be_v will_v not_o else_o mind_n or_o consider_v about_o religion_n and_o if_o the_o magistrate_n do_v not_o take_v care_n of_o his_o subject_n soul_n as_o well_o as_o their_o body_n he_o bear_v the_o best_a part_n of_o his_o sword_n in_o vain_a for_o people_n be_v very_o apt_a to_o run_v into_o strange_a enthusiasm_n when_o every_o man_n may_v cut_v out_o what_o religion_n he_o please_v and_o we_o may_v well_o think_v a_o prince_n blame-worthy_a in_o this_o particular_a if_o god_n own_v he_o as_o his_o deputy_n and_o vicegerent_n and_o yet_o he_o do_v nothing_o for_o god_n in_o all_o his_o government_n and_o indeed_o we_o have_v all_o the_o reason_n in_o the_o world_n to_o give_v all_o due_a respect_n to_o the_o law_n especial_o of_o good_a prince_n for_o the_o high_a the_o office_n the_o great_a the_o grace_n that_o descend_v upon_o they_o but_o yet_o notwithstanding_o the_o prince_n as_o a_o part_n of_o his_o duty_n take_v which_o be_v dear_a to_o they_o rather_o than_o obey_v therefore_o when_o we_o see_v any_o of_o our_o weak_a brethren_n in_o trouble_n because_o of_o their_o weakness_n let_v we_o not_o deride_v and_o contemn_v they_o because_o of_o their_o
have_v not_o just_a the_o very_a same_o sentiment_n of_o thing_n in_o every_o particular_a as_o it_o may_v be_v few_o man_n have_v yet_o that_o they_o will_v not_o rend_v and_o tear_v christ_n church_n but_o will_v lay_v aside_o their_o dislike_n of_o each_o other_o private_a opinion_n and_o with_o one_o heart_n and_o one_o mouth_n join_v together_o in_o public_a duty_n and_o ordinance_n and_o receive_v one_o another_o in_o the_o visible_a communion_n of_o the_o christian_a church_n that_o the_o weak_a shall_v not_o as_o malcontent_n go_v to_o separate_v themselves_o and_o throw_v away_o their_o soul_n nor_o the_o strong_a as_o have_v a_o clear_a understanding_n disdain_v to_o join_v with_o the_o weak_a but_o that_o we_o shall_v receive_v one_o another_o to_o the_o help_a each_o other_o forward_o in_o grace_n as_o christ_n also_o offer_v to_o receive_v we_o to_o the_o eternal_a be_v with_o he_o in_o glory_n and_o now_o have_v speak_v distinct_o to_o the_o word_n of_o text_n i_o shall_v pass_v to_o the_o second_o thing_n which_o i_o shall_v insist_v on_o very_o brief_o and_o that_o be_v 2._o to_o consider_v that_o great_a duty_n of_o obedience_n to_o magistrate_n and_o indeed_o their_o be_v so_o much_o mistake_v in_o the_o extent_n of_o christian_a obedience_n be_v that_o i_o fear_v which_o make_v they_o take_v so_o little_a notice_n of_o the_o law_n of_o a_o reform_a christian_a prince_n for_o if_o the_o power_n of_o a_o heathen_a prince_n be_v from_o god_n and_o that_o he_o that_o resist_v he_o shall_v receive_v damnation_n to_o himself_o much_o more_o when_o one_o as_o i_o may_v say_v after_o god_n own_o heart_n be_v in_o the_o throne_n when_o he_o countenance_n that_o same_o religion_n which_o we_o pretend_v to_o love_v at_o our_o very_a heart_n one_o single_a person_n only_o but_o proceed_v from_o the_o mature_a deliberation_n of_o man_n of_o our_o own_o choose_n to_o represent_v our_o grievance_n and_o take_v care_n that_o no_o heavy_a burden_n be_v lay_v on_o our_o body_n or_o mind_n than_o themselves_o as_o fellow-subject_n be_v ready_a to_o bear_v and_o yet_o strange_a it_o be_v that_o after_o all_o these_o wonderful_a privilege_n we_o shall_v have_v some_o repine_n at_o and_o other_o defy_v our_o admirable_a form_n and_o method_n of_o government_n that_o they_o shall_v allow_v none_o to_o be_v lord_n over_o they_o and_o that_o the_o pretence_n of_o christian_a liberty_n shall_v fight_v and_o set_v itself_o against_o the_o law_n of_o god_n and_o man_n and_o this_o we_o see_v by_o too_o sad_a and_o daily_a experience_n it_o do_v whereas_o be_v our_o prince_n in_o his_o judgement_n a_o heathen_a in_o his_o power_n furnish_v to_o be_v arbitrary_o and_o uncontrolable_o cruel_a and_o in_o his_o will_n and_o inclination_n delight_v to_o crush_v and_o grieve_v his_o subject_n yet_o to_o this_o power_n we_o must_v be_v obedient_a in_o short_a be_v the_o prince_n what_o he_o will_v god_n require_v a_o thorough_a obedience_n one_o way_n or_o other_o and_o therefore_o the_o thought_n of_o a_o gracious_a a_o merciful_a and_o a_o reform_a prince_n shall_v make_v we_o so_o proud_a of_o and_o please_v with_o our_o governor_n as_o not_o to_o thwart_v he_o upon_o straw_n and_o trifle_n no_o master_n though_o never_o so_o mean_a but_o expect_v dutifulness_n from_o his_o servant_n no_o father_n though_o never_o so_o poor_a but_o require_v obedience_n from_o his_o child_n and_o why_o shall_v a_o prince_n who_o be_v above_o we_o all_o suffer_v himself_o to_o be_v mock_v when_o no_o body_n else_o will_n why_o shall_v he_o be_v call_v a_o lawmaker_n of_o his_o country_n if_o every_o humourous_a fanciful_a person_n may_v control_v his_o authority_n when_o he_o please_v this_o seem_v a_o great_a affront_n to_o the_o supreme_a power_n on_o earth_n especial_o a_o power_n so_o great_a as_o to_o be_v ordain_v of_o god_n though_o i_o real_o fear_v many_o christian_n do_v not_o know_v what_o they_o do_v when_o to_o the_o indulge_v some_o humour_n of_o their_o own_o they_o bid_v adieu_o to_o all_o authority_n and_o do_v what_o in_o single_a person_n lie_v to_o the_o divide_v christian_n and_o confound_a church-order_n and_o discipline_n but_o i_o hope_v better_o of_o you_o my_o brethren_n and_o therefore_o i_o shall_v not_o insist_v any_o more_o upon_o this_o head_n liberty_n they_o have_v by_o christ_n from_o the_o jewish_a ceremony_n the_o weak_a in_o those_o day_n be_v those_o that_o think_v well_o of_o christianity_n and_o yet_o for_o all_o that_o be_v unwilling_a quite_o to_o throw_v off_o the_o ceremonial_a law_n that_o stand_v upon_o meat_n and_o day_n etc._n etc._n though_o the_o gospel_n acquit_v they_o the_o strong_a in_o our_o day_n be_v those_o that_o be_v hearty_o obedient_a to_o all_o the_o law_n of_o magistrate_n that_o be_v not_o forbid_v in_o god_n word_n and_o that_o be_v satisfy_v that_o a_o prince_n have_v power_n to_o enjoin_v any_o thing_n in_o our_o worship_n that_o be_v not_o except_v against_o in_o the_o gospel_n the_o weak_a in_o our_o day_n be_v those_o that_o either_o can_v or_o will_v distinguish_v between_o article_n of_o faith_n and_o modes_n of_o worship_n that_o think_v they_o be_v not_o oblige_v nay_o that_o they_o ought_v not_o to_o obey_v their_o governor_n as_o to_o the_o enjoin_v indifferent_a thing_n in_o their_o worship_n because_o they_o be_v not_o command_v in_o word_n at_o length_n in_o the_o new_a testament_n and_o now_o have_v name_v to_o you_o the_o man_n and_o the_o thing_n i_o shall_v proceed_v humble_o to_o offer_v some_o rule_n to_o your_o consideration_n and_o so_o conclude_v and_o in_o these_o i_o shall_v apply_v myself_o to_o the_o strong_a and_o the_o weak_a and_o because_o st._n paul_n in_o this_o chapter_n begin_v with_o the_o strong_a i_o shall_v do_v so_o too_o we_o therefore_o that_o be_v strong_a aught_o to_o bear_v the_o infirmity_n of_o the_o weak_a especial_o if_o the_o weak_a be_v as_o they_o be_v in_o those_o day_n and_o perhaps_o have_v some_o reason_n to_o be_v in_o a_o great_a strait_n which_o to_o take_v for_o it_o be_v doubtless_o very_o hard_o for_o man_n then_o especial_o those_o that_o be_v zealous_a to_o throw_v off_o a_o religion_n almost_o whole_o and_o run_v with_o immediate_a satisfaction_n into_o another_o it_o be_v doubtless_o a_o great_a surprise_n to_o they_o that_o after_o a_o religion_n have_v flourish_v about_o four_o thousand_o year_n and_o have_v be_v own_v by_o god_n as_o the_o true_a in_o the_o apostle_n argue_v who_o make_v thou_o to_o differ_v be_v it_o not_o the_o grade_n of_o god_n that_o rescue_v thou_o from_o this_o weakness_n and_o indeed_o the_o suffering_n even_o of_o a_o notorious_a malefactor_n be_v pitiable_a as_o we_o have_v a_o general_a respect_n for_o humane_a nature_n and_o this_o will_v induce_v our_o weak_a brother_n to_o think_v that_o we_o be_v love_v and_o tender_a and_o christian-like_a when_o we_o do_v not_o mock_v at_o but_o pity_v their_o calamity_n though_o it_o be_v very_o fit_a and_o meet_v that_o good_a and_o righteous_a law_n shall_v take_v place_n and_o be_v execute_v upon_o offender_n yet_o it_o will_v be_v hard_o if_o those_o that_o be_v to_o execute_v these_o law_n or_o any_o other_o shall_v superadd_a any_o censure_n or_o intermingle_v any_o sort_n of_o treatment_n that_o the_o law_n will_v not_o direct_o allow_v or_o do_v not_o express_o enjoin_v it_o be_v no_o persecution_n to_o put_v good_a and_o justifiable_a law_n in_o execution_n but_o it_o look_v like_o one_o when_o those_o that_o be_v to_o do_v it_o rejoice_v in_o their_o brother_n suffering_n but_o 3._o the_o strong_a shall_v consider_v and_o pity_v the_o meanness_n and_o confusion_n of_o their_o faith_n and_o understanding_n now_o faith_n as_o the_o scripture_n say_v come_v by_o hear_v and_o therefore_o this_o fault_n i_o shall_v rather_o choose_v to_o lay_v upon_o their_o teacher_n than_o upon_o they_o tho_o it_o be_v in_o part_n their_o fault_n to_o make_v no_o better_o a_o choice_n and_o i_o must_v confess_v i_o take_v it_o to_o be_v the_o particular_a sleight_n of_o their_o preacher_n to_o cut_v out_o work_v for_o themselves_o to_o make_v their_o hearer_n of_o nice_a and_o boggle_n conscience_n that_o they_o may_v have_v they_o under_o
