adam_n than_o adam_n himself_o be_v sore_o handle_v their_o life_n short_a and_o sickly_a and_o at_o last_o throw_v down_o to_o hell_n there_o to_o die_v a_o eternal_a death_n this_o darkness_n from_o my_o supposition_n i_o will_v make_v as_o clear_a as_o day_n if_o we_o consider_v the_o sin_n of_o adam_n either_o against_o the_o law_n which_o be_v a_o legal_a sin_n or_o by_o default_n of_o his_o nature_n subject_n to_o corruption_n which_o be_v a_o natural_a sin_n if_o we_o consider_v adam_n sin_v by_o a_o legal_a sin_n or_o against_o the_o law_n which_o be_v the_o same_o thing_n we_o shall_v conceive_v he_o not_o only_o as_o to_o himself_o but_o also_o in_o regard_n of_o all_o man_n and_o to_o all_o mankind_n who_o he_o do_v represent_v by_o force_n and_o virtue_n of_o which_o representation_n he_o deserve_v the_o imputation_n of_o that_o sin_n to_o himself_o and_o all_o mankind_n for_o as_o a_o ambassador_n who_o yield_v up_o a_o people_n to_o a_o conquer_a prince_n in_o and_o mystical_a sin_n if_o we_o consider_v adam_n sin_v in_o the_o default_n of_o his_o nature_n give_v to_o corruption_n which_o be_v natural_a sin_n then_o we_o shall_v conceive_v he_o in_o regard_n of_o himself_o not_o in_o regard_n of_o all_o man_n and_o in_o that_o regard_n the_o more_o that_o adam_n sin_v to_o himself_o in_o that_o natural_a sin_n he_o gain_v himself_o more_o natural_a evil_n and_o punishment_n and_o so_o have_v fall_v into_o more_o grievous_a disease_n and_o indeed_o because_o natural_a sin_n be_v receptive_a of_o more_o or_o less_o according_a to_o man_n that_o such_o vice_n be_v altogether_o tie_v and_o addict_v to_o the_o substance_n of_o man_n since_o the_o same_o substance_n be_v to_o man_n and_o beast_n and_o man_n and_o beast_n have_v the_o their_o health_n so_o that_o they_o be_v gird_v with_o the_o spleen_n as_o with_o a_o girdle_n whence_o have_v they_o the_o king_n evil_a whence_o bleared_a eye_n their_o gut_n ache_v the_o root_n there_o be_v a_o natural_a similitude_n of_o all_o man_n sin_n with_o the_o sin_n of_o adam_n yet_o the_o apostle_n mean_v not_o that_o material_a and_o natural_a similitude_n here_o wherein_o we_o impute_v backward_o consider_v what_o i_o have_v often_o inculcate_v that_o the_o faith_n of_o abraham_n according_a to_o the_o consent_n of_o all_o divine_n be_v impute_v to_o the_o predecessor_n of_o abraham_n though_o dead_a and_o that_o christ_n be_v impute_v to_o all_o both_o before_o himself_o and_o abraham_n though_o dead_a and_o bury_v but_o yet_o it_o will_v seem_v prodigious_a that_o death_n reign_v back_o from_o the_o imputation_n of_o the_o sin_n of_o adam_n consider_v that_o no_o death_n can_v happen_v to_o man_n but_o that_o which_o descend_v upon_o man_n by_o the_o seed_n of_o adam_n which_o as_o they_o say_v become_v mortal_a and_o beget_v death_n since_o adam_n sin_v for_o grant_v this_o and_o it_o be_v impossible_a to_o imagine_v that_o death_n pass_v upon_o all_o man_n by_o the_o seed_n and_o sin_n of_o adam_n because_o it_o be_v impossible_a to_o be_v do_v and_o impossible_a to_o be_v conceive_v that_o adam_n do_v beget_v his_o predecessor_n but_o if_o we_o consider_v that_o death_n which_o pass_v from_o adam_n upon_o all_o man_n to_o be_v mystical_a and_o spiritual_a which_o not_o material_o nor_o natural_o but_o mystical_o and_o spiritual_o return_v upon_o all_o man_n that_o will_v be_v very_o clear_a for_o as_o we_o conceive_v that_o death_n invade_v adam_n and_o all_o after_o he_o that_o very_a hour_n when_o he_o sin_v why_o shall_v we_o not_o think_v that_o death_n seize_v also_o all_o before_o and_o all_o after_o and_o if_o there_o be_v any_o thing_n of_o impossibility_n to_o be_v speak_v of_o the_o man_n that_o be_v before_o why_o shall_v there_o not_o be_v the_o same_o impossibility_n in_o those_o that_o come_v after_o yea_o in_o this_o mystery_n their_o shall_v be_v a_o great_a regard_n have_v to_o those_o who_o be_v before_o than_o those_o that_o come_v after_o because_o those_o which_o be_v dead_a and_o be_v not_o be_v in_o some_o condition_n think_v to_o be_v because_o they_o be_v certain_o but_o those_o who_o be_v to_o come_v never_o be_v and_o it_o may_v be_v never_o will_v have_v any_o be_v the_o apostle_n tell_v we_o plain_a that_o the_o kingdom_n of_o death_n do_v vanish_v after_o the_o destruction_n of_o the_o thought_n of_o man_n that_o be_v past_a as_o we_o have_v of_o those_o man_n that_o be_v to_o come_v and_o we_o grant_v that_o death_n reign_v mystical_o upon_o one_o and_o that_o it_o do_v reign_v likewise_o mystical_o upon_o the_o other_o likewise_o by_o way_n of_o mystery_n parabolical_o and_o in_o all_o supposition_n of_o law_n there_o will_v be_v more_o reason_n why_o death_n shall_v reign_v over_o those_o that_o be_v past_a than_o those_o that_o be_v not_o bear_v if_o we_o call_v to_o mind_v the_o way_n of_o judge_n in_o criminal_n with_o who_o it_o be_v no_o new_a thing_n to_o inflict_v a_o punishment_n upon_o the_o dead_a who_o command_v the_o dead_a body_n of_o guilty_a person_n to_o be_v present_a at_o judgement_n that_o according_a to_o the_o punishment_n of_o the_o law_n they_o may_v suffer_v a_o civil_a death_n which_o by_o a_o natural_a one_o they_o have_v prevent_v but_o what_o law_n be_v so_o cruel_a as_o to_o ordain_v any_o such_o thing_n concern_v man_n that_o never_o be_v what_o law_n condemn_v man_n not_o bear_v to_o die_v let_v we_o therefore_o think_v that_o a_o mystical_a and_o spiritual_a death_n reign_v upon_o all_o the_o predecessor_n of_o adam_n just_o as_o the_o civil_a law_n presuppose_v those_o that_o have_v dye_v a_o natutural_a death_n may_v be_v also_o condemn_v to_o a_o civil_a death_n but_o any_o one_o may_v answer_v those_o guilty_a person_n die_v a_o deserve_v civil_a death_n by_o the_o sentence_n of_o the_o judge_n for_o breach_n of_o the_o civil_a law_n but_o those_o man_n who_o die_v before_o adam_n and_o never_o do_v violate_v any_o law_n because_o never_o none_o be_v give_v to_o they_o how_o can_v they_o deserve_v any_o such_o thing_n at_o god_n hand_n and_o what_o such_o barbarous_a law_n allow_v the_o custom_n to_o involve_v dead_a man_n in_o guilt_n kill_v they_o over_o again_o and_o add_v a_o legal_a death_n to_o their_o natural_a death_n by_o a_o law_n which_o they_o never_o transgress_v let_v we_o never_o have_v any_o such_o thought_n that_o there_o be_v any_o such_o injustice_n in_o god_n or_o any_o cruelty_n in_o his_o law_n god_n forbid_v that_o any_o such_o thing_n shall_v come_v into_o our_o mind_n that_o god_n shall_v ever_o decree_v any_o thing_n that_o shall_v tend_v to_o their_o destruction_n which_o we_o confute_v before_o whatsoever_o god_n decree_v concern_v man_n it_o be_v decree_v for_o their_o salvation_n and_o if_o there_o be_v any_o thing_n then_o which_o seem_v to_o they_o disadvantageous_a god_n will_v in_o his_o own_o time_n turn_v it_o to_o the_o best_a therefore_o god_n provide_v for_o those_o man_n which_o be_v before_o adam_n that_o they_o shall_v die_v by_o the_o transgression_n of_o adam_n that_o they_o may_v again_o rise_v from_o the_o dead_a yea_o they_o do_v object_n how_o can_v ever_o the_o predecessor_n of_o adam_n be_v sanctify_v and_o a_o rise_v up_o to_o eternal_a life_n in_o christ_n if_o life_n eternal_a which_o be_v the_o
