be_v a_o essential_a resemblance_n in_o the_o least_o degree_n of_o grace_n unto_o christ_n as_o well_o as_o in_o the_o great_a every_o spark_n of_o fire_n be_v true_a fire_n as_o well_o as_o the_o great_a fire_n in_o your_o chimney_n i_o tell_v you_o christian_n the_o least_o grace_n be_v christ_n within_o you_o there_o be_v the_o whole_a image_n of_o christ_n there_o be_v the_o love_n of_o before_o man_n but_o rather_o discommend_v thou_o before_o god_n and_o man_n but_o little_a grace_n in_o thy_o life_n little_a in_o thy_o prayer_n little_a in_o thy_o heart_n little_a in_o thy_o understanding_n ay_o but_o if_o god_n espy_v a_o little_a grace_n under_o all_o this_o rubbish_n a_o little_a grain_n a_o grain_n of_o the_o least_o size_n under_o all_o this_o heap_n of_o chaff_n and_o rubbish_n the_o lord_n will_v take_v care_n of_o this_o yet_o say_v he_o shall_v not_o the_o least_o grain_n fall_v to_o the_o ground_n but_o whence_o be_v all_o this_o kindness_n ans_fw-fr i_o shall_v give_v you_o a_o account_n of_o this_o in_o these_o follow_a proposition_n reas_n 1_o a_o little_a grace_n though_o never_o so_o little_a be_v distinguish_v grace_n as_o well_o as_o the_o thousand_o and_o ten_o thousand_o of_o heart_n will_v appear_v before_o the_o throne_n and_o not_o a_o grain_n of_o grace_n in_o they_o &_o therefore_o my_o friend_n if_o so_o then_o this_o must_v needs_o be_v clear_a that_o either_o god_n must_v look_v after_o this_o little_a grace_n or_o must_v lose_v the_o resolve_n of_o his_o eternal_a love_n 2._o that_o this_o little_a have_v the_o nature_n of_o the_o whole_a jesus_n christ_n compare_v the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n in_o heart_n unto_o a_o grain_n of_o must_v and_o seed_n which_o be_v the_o least_o of_o all_o grain_n why_o though_o it_o be_v so_o little_a yet_o there_o be_v a_o prolific_a or_o a_o seminal_a virtue_n and_o power_n in_o that_o little_a the_o least_o grain_n of_o corn_n be_v wheat_n it_o have_v the_o nature_n of_o wheat_n as_o well_o as_o the_o full_a so_o the_o least_o christian_n he_o that_o have_v the_o least_o grace_n have_v the_o whole_a nature_n of_o christianity_n as_o well_o as_o he_o usher_v in_o this_o prophecy_n and_o what_o the_o smite_v of_o the_o lintel_n of_o the_o door_n that_o the_o prophet_n observe_v be_v you_o may_v see_v in_o the_o succeed_a verse_n and_o the_o lord_n resolve_n be_v to_o take_v they_o however_o they_o do_v attempt_v to_o secure_v themselves_o from_o he_o though_o they_o dig_v into_o hell_n thence_o shall_v my_o hand_n take_v they_o though_o they_o climb_v up_o to_o heaven_n i_o will_v bring_v they_o down_o sir_n there_o be_v no_o escape_v of_o the_o hand_n of_o god_n when_o once_o the_o lord_n stand_v upon_o the_o altar_n and_o command_v the_o lintel_n of_o the_o door_n to_o be_v smite_v he_o give_v the_o reason_n and_o the_o account_n of_o that_o in_o the_o next_o verse_n i_o shall_v not_o intermeddle_v with_o they_o but_o yet_o notwithstanding_o all_o that_o he_o have_v threaten_v against_o his_o people_n he_o come_v in_o with_o this_o promise_n yet_o say_v he_o shall_v not_o the_o least_o grain_n fall_v upon_o the_o earth_n earth_n though_o he_o command_v and_o though_o he_o sift_v the_o house_n of_o israel_n according_a to_o the_o spirit_n in_o the_o sieve_n of_o the_o nation_n yet_o then_o shall_v not_o the_o least_o grain_n fall_v to_o the_o earth_n this_o seem_v to_o i_o to_o be_v the_o true_a import_n of_o the_o context_n and_o i_o hope_v these_o observation_n will_v make_v way_n for_o the_o application_n of_o what_o i_o have_v deliver_v and_o what_o i_o shall_v deliver_v to_o be_v the_o case_n of_o christian_n and_o the_o case_n of_o the_o church_n of_o christ_n in_o all_o their_o circumstance_n that_o which_o i_o lay_v as_o the_o foundation_n of_o the_o whole_a discourse_n be_v this_o that_o even_o in_o the_o worst_a of_o time_n god_n will_v take_v especial_a care_n of_o the_o least_o of_o towards_o they_o if_o there_o be_v but_o among_o a_o heap_n of_o tare_n a_o grain_n of_o wheat_n though_o it_o be_v never_o so_o little_a if_o there_o be_v but_o the_o seed_n of_o god_n there_o be_v seminal_a virtue_n in_o it_o yet_o say_v god_n shall_v not_o the_o least_o grain_n fall_v upon_o the_o earth_n and_o the_o reason_n of_o god_n kindness_n in_o general_n be_v this_o the_o enmity_n of_o the_o nation_n be_v against_o the_o grain_n and_o the_o kindness_n and_o grace_n of_o god_n do_v extend_v unto_o the_o least_o grain_n and_o therefore_o notwithstanding_o the_o enmity_n of_o hell_n and_o of_o those_o that_o be_v spirit_v by_o hell_n yet_o god_n have_v say_v lo_o i_o will_v command_v and_o i_o will_v sift_v he_o will_v command_v and_o he_o will_v secure_v he_o will_v secure_v the_o least_o grain_n that_o it_o fall_v not_o to_o the_o earth_n brethren_n you_o that_o have_v attain_v to_o great_a measure_n of_o grace_n think_v not_o yourselves_o unconcerned_a in_o this_o word_n the_o time_n may_v come_v you_o may_v see_v little_a enough_o and_o those_o that_o have_v most_o grace_n be_v many_o time_n least_o sensible_a the_o observation_n be_v this_o doct._n that_o in_o the_o most_o desolate_v general_a common_a calamity_n of_o profess_v nation_n god_n will_v look_v after_o the_o least_o of_o those_o that_o be_v sincere_a professor_n it_o be_v the_o least_o grace_n in_o the_o heart_n and_o the_o least_o christian_n in_o the_o company_n that_o god_n eye_n be_v upon_o and_o the_o lord_n heart_n be_v towards_o and_o the_o lord_n arm_v be_v about_o yet_o say_v he_o shall_v not_o the_o least_o grain_n fall_v to_o the_o earth_n i_o shall_v proceed_v to_o what_o remain_v and_o that_o be_v yet_o to_o give_v you_o a_o further_a account_n of_o the_o lord_n kindness_n and_o of_o the_o lord_n gracious_a care_n of_o his_o little_a one_o in_o the_o most_o perilous_a and_o dangerous_a time_n temptation_n be_v high_a persecution_n be_v high_a corruption_n be_v high_a yet_o if_o there_o be_v but_o the_o least_o grace_n thy_o soul_n shall_v not_o miscarry_v in_o the_o further_a prosecution_n of_o this_o subject_a i_o shall_v only_o commend_v to_o your_o serious_a consideration_n these_o four_o scripture_n observation_n 1._o and_o the_o first_o be_v this_o therefore_o the_o least_o christian_n that_o have_v the_o least_o grace_n shall_v not_o eternal_o miscarry_v and_o fall_v to_o the_o earth_n when_o the_o chaff_n and_o tare_n do_v because_o that_o the_o lord_n in_o the_o manage_n of_o the_o dispensation_n of_o his_o providence_n will_v interest_n and_o with_o all_o their_o learning_n to_o bring_v any_o thing_n to_o any_o period_n against_o their_o attempt_n the_o prophet_n isaiah_n in_o the_o 53_o chap._n of_o his_o prophecy_n give_v we_o a_o account_n of_o the_o first_o sense_n of_o the_o people_n of_o israel_n which_o be_v the_o grand_a practical_a principle_n of_o they_o and_o the_o roman_n resolve_v against_o he_o the_o 2_o verse_n for_o he_o shall_v grow_v up_o as_o a_o tender_a plant_n as_o a_o root_n out_o of_o a_o dry_a ground_n he_o have_v no_o form_n nor_o comeliness_n and_o when_o we_o shall_v see_v he_o there_o be_v no_o beauty_n that_o we_o shall_v desire_v he_o be_v this_o the_o messiah_n as_o if_o they_o shall_v say_v which_o be_v the_o matter_n of_o all_o the_o promise_n and_o prophecy_n of_o the_o old_a testament_n no_o this_o be_v not_o he_o be_v not_o this_o say_v they_o when_o he_o do_v appear_v the_o carpenter_n son_n the_o poor_a child_n of_o the_o contemptible_a carpenter_n who_o grow_v there_o so_o take_v a_o christian_n that_o have_v but_o a_o little_a light_n and_o but_o a_o little_a grace_n plant_v he_o in_o a_o wicked_a family_n among_o a_o company_n of_o wicked_a neighbour_n you_o will_v think_v he_o be_v not_o likely_a to_o make_v any_o thing_n of_o his_o christianity_n there_o father_n be_v against_o he_o mother_n against_o he_o brethren_n against_o he_o every_o man_n hand_n be_v against_o the_o new_a professor_n and_o yet_o he_o grow_v and_o this_o root_n that_o be_v grow_v out_o of_o a_o dry_a ground_n have_v many_o a_o pluck_v satan_n give_v a_o pluck_v at_o it_o and_o the_o world_n give_v a_o pluck_v at_o it_o and_o yet_o the_o root_n continue_v in_o the_o ground_n and_o this_o root_n that_o be_v thus_o plant_v in_o this_o dry_a ground_n a_o unlikely_a place_n to_o produce_v any_o thing_n to_o any_o spiritual_a or_o eternal_a purpose_n go_v on_o its_o way_n why_o sure_o my_o friend_n this_o must_v needs_o discover_v a_o great_a reason_n why_o christian_n that_o be_v unlikely_a to_o be_v secure_v unlikely_a to_o live_v why_o they_o shall_v both_o live_v and_o be_v secure_v in_o their_o life_n why_o because_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n be_v so_o deal_v withal_o i_o shall_v give_v you_o two_o illustration_n of_o this_o 1._o and_o the_o first_o be_v this_o it_o be_v the_o general_a design_n of_o the_o gospel_n that_o all_o thing_n shall_v be_v so_o carry_v on_o and_o manage_v that_o it_o may_v be_v to_o the_o advancement_n of_o free_a grace_n to_o cut_v off_o as_o the_o apostle_n say_v all_o occasion_n of_o boast_v in_o ourselves_o for_o if_o we_o do_v consider_v what_o we_o have_v to_o boast_v of_o alas_o you_o that_o be_v strong_a you_o be_v as_o weak_a as_o other_o you_o that_o have_v your_o heart_n as_o you_o apprehend_v now_o full_a of_o grace_n they_o be_v once_o as_o empty_a as_o other_o and_o you_o that_o be_v now_o as_o it_o be_v in_o full_a communion_n and_o fellow_n ship_n with_o god_n you_o once_o stand_v at_o a_o equal_a distance_n with_o other_o what_o have_v you_o to_o boast_v of_o when_o the_o lord_n will_v cut_v off_o all_o occasion_n of_o boast_v from_o the_o people_n of_o israel_n say_v he_o thy_o father_n be_v a_o ammorite_n and_o thy_o mother_n a_o hitite_n and_o thy_o birth_n and_o nativity_n be_v of_o the_o land_n of_o canaan_n here_o i_o pray_v consider_v in_o the_o sequel_n of_o this_o
and_o the_o house_n of_o david_n shall_v be_v as_o god_n as_o the_o angel_n of_o the_o lord_n before_o they_o now_o christian_n i_o pray_v what_o be_v the_o discouragement_n that_o lie_v upon_o thou_o thou_o say_v thou_o be_v feeble_a and_o thou_o be_v weak_a and_o thou_o be_v poor_a &_o thou_o be_v empty_a thy_o heart_n be_v empty_a &_o thy_o head_n empty_a and_o thy_o affection_n empty_a thy_o prayer_n be_v empty_a &_o thy_o conversation_n empty_a all_o this_o be_v true_a &_o god_n know_v it_o be_v true_a &_o whence_o come_v all_o this_o o_o thou_o be_v fall_v in_o the_o street_n by_o reason_n of_o the_o feebleness_n of_o thy_o grace_n and_o the_o weakness_n that_o do_v attend_v thy_o duty_n thou_o can_v hardly_o set_v a_o step_n but_o thou_o fall_v thou_o go_v stumble_v and_o stamble_v on_o to_o heaven_n and_o thou_o have_v not_o strength_n enough_o scarce_o to_o go_v through_o any_o discouragement_n well_o friend_n though_o it_o be_v thus_o with_o thou_o yet_o consider_v here_o be_v the_o word_n of_o the_o lord_n for_o thy_o encouragement_n the_o feeble_a among_o they_o shall_v be_v as_o david_n and_o i_o pray_v in_o who_o hand_n be_v the_o custody_n or_o keep_n of_o the_o blessing_n that_o be_v wrap_v up_o in_o this_o promise_n be_v it_o not_o in_o the_o hand_n of_o christ_n all_o this_o courage_n and_o all_o this_o strength_n and_o all_o these_o part_n and_o all_o this_o grace_n that_o must_v make_v thou_o like_o david_n a_o man_n after_o god_n own_o heart_n to_o fulfil_v actual_o all_o his_o will_n all_o this_o be_v in_o the_o hand_n of_o christ_n and_o way_n with_o god_n a_o little_a gospel_n improvement_n make_v of_o a_o little_a on_o earth_n go_v a_o great_a way_n in_o heaven_n and_o let_v i_o tell_v you_o this_o also_o further_o that_o there_o be_v no_o bound_n that_o can_v possible_o be_v suppose_v to_o be_v prescribe_v to_o the_o acceptance_n and_o to_o the_o reward_n of_o the_o improvement_n of_o a_o little_a grace_n you_o know_v not_o my_o friend_n but_o a_o weak_a one_o may_v become_v a_o nation_n and_o a_o feeble_a one_o may_v be_v multiply_v by_o the_o blessing_n of_o god_n into_o many_o nation_n you_o know_v not_o how_o god_n may_v bless_v a_o little_a improvement_n therefore_o my_o exhortation_n to_o you_o be_v to_o stir_v up_o yourselves_o to_o be_v put_v forth_o something_a if_o you_o have_v but_o a_o little_a faith_n he_o you_o see_v the_o glory_n of_o the_o former_a temple_n and_o i_o tell_v you_o say_v he_o that_o the_o glory_n of_o the_o latter_a temple_n shall_v be_v great_a than_o the_o glory_n of_o the_o former_a they_o be_v discourage_v at_o the_o plainness_n and_o meanness_n of_o the_o building_n and_o of_o the_o furniture_n and_o adorn_v of_o the_o temple_n nay_o say_v god_n if_o that_o be_v the_o thing_n do_v not_o trouble_v yourselves_o about_o it_o so_o i_o say_v my_o friend_n you_o may_v take_v a_o estimate_n of_o other_o heart_n and_o compare_v other_o heart_n with_o you_o and_o you_o fall_v a_o murmur_a and_o discouragement_n seize_v upon_o you_o nay_o but_o let_v i_o say_v to_o you_o in_o the_o name_n of_o the_o lord_n if_o there_o be_v but_o a_o little_a grace_n be_v not_o discourage_v at_o the_o littleness_n of_o it_o you_o have_v reason_n to_o be_v humble_v that_o it_o be_v no_o more_o that_o be_v very_o true_a but_o yet_o you_o have_v no_o reason_n to_o be_v discourage_v because_o there_o be_v a_o little_a and_o the_o lord_n have_v command_v i_o to_o tell_v you_o that_o it_o lay_v in_o his_o power_n and_o within_o the_o reach_n of_o his_o grace_n to_o make_v the_o glory_n of_o that_o little_a grace_n that_o be_v in_o your_o heart_n far_o exceed_v the_o glory_n of_o that_o great_a deal_n that_o you_o observe_v to_o break_v forth_o in_o the_o heart_n
