caiaphas_n the_o high_a priest_n of_o the_o jewish_a synagogue_n unto_o pontius_n pilate_n the_o roman_a deputy_n or_o precedent_n who_o be_v not_o only_o a_o gentile_a himself_o but_o his_o jurisdiction_n also_o be_v from_o the_o gentile_n as_o the_o roman_n and_o all_o nation_n except_o the_o jew_n be_v account_v in_o those_o day_n and_o this_o be_v preordained_n by_o the_o fore-determine_a counsel_n of_o god_n to_o be_v do_v according_o for_o these_o two_o end_n or_o reason_n the_o first_o that_o he_o may_v be_v put_v to_o death_n which_o by_o the_o jew_n law_n as_o they_o will_v seem_v to_o affirm_v he_o can_v not_o for_o themselves_o tell_v pilate_n in_o the_o very_a next_o word_n after_o our_o text_n that_o it_o be_v not_o lawful_a for_o they_o to_o put_v any_o man_n to_o death_n verse_n 31._o the_o second_o for_o the_o manner_n of_o his_o death_n that_o he_o may_v be_v crucify_v for_o so_o be_v it_o far_o specify_v in_o the_o 32._o verse_n viz_o that_o it_o be_v do_v that_o the_o say_n of_o jesus_n may_v be_v fulfil_v which_o he_o speak_v signify_v what_o death_n he_o shall_v die_v which_o be_v express_v to_o be_v crucify_a matth._n 20.9_o to_o which_o place_n this_o passage_n in_o saint_n john_n do_v allude_v now_o the_o fulfil_n of_o this_o pprophecy_n of_o christ_n own_o self_n concern_v himself_o shall_v afford_v we_o only_o this_o way_n if_o he_o will_v but_o to_o let_v we_o understand_v the_o greatness_n of_o his_o love_n unto_o we_o he_o will_v not_o refuse_v any_o torture_n or_o any_o trouble_n to_o do_v we_o good_a but_o willing_o and_o ready_o perform_v all_o thing_n requisite_a for_o our_o salvation_n give_v his_o soul_n as_o a_o offering_n for_o our_o sin_n as_o the_o prophet_n foretold_v esay_n 53.10_o so_o that_o without_o any_o tergiversation_n or_o regret_n he_o suffer_v himself_o free_o to_o be_v present_v before_o pontius_n pilate_n and_o the_o judgement_n seat_n of_o the_o gentile_n although_o he_o know_v
