prophet_n of_o god_n yet_o the_o prophet_n prediction_n be_v no_o cause_n of_o their_o unbelief_n or_o that_o which_o lay_v they_o under_o a_o impossibility_n of_o believe_v but_o the_o fault_n lie_v in_o their_o own_o obstinate_a will_n with_o respect_n to_o which_o by_o the_o just_a judgement_n of_o god_n they_o be_v blind_v and_o harden_v for_o their_o contempt_n of_o christ_n the_o promise_a messiah_n when_o man_n close_v their_o eye_n wilful_o and_o say_v they_o will_v not_o see_v it_o be_v just_a with_o god_n to_o close_v their_o eye_n judicial_o and_o say_v they_o shall_v not_o see_v he_o have_v blind_v their_o eye_n and_o harden_a their_o heart_n etc._n etc._n 42_o ¶_o nevertheless_o among_o the_o chief_a ruler_n also_o many_o believe_v on_o he_o but_o because_o of_o the_o pharisee_n they_o do_v not_o confess_v he_o lest_o they_o shall_v be_v put_v out_o of_o the_o synagogue_n 43_o for_o they_o love_v the_o praise_n of_o man_n more_o than_o the_o praise_n of_o god_n observe_v here_o 1._o that_o although_o the_o generality_n of_o the_o jew_n be_v thus_o harden_v under_o christ_n ministry_n and_o miracle_n yet_o there_o be_v some_o and_o those_o of_o the_o chief_a rank_n even_a ruler_n that_o do_v believe_v on_o he_o that_o be_v they_o be_v under_o strong_a and_o powerful_a conviction_n that_o he_o be_v the_o true_a and_o expect_a messiah_n even_o in_o time_n and_o place_n where_o obstinacy_n and_o infidelity_n most_o prevail_v the_o ministry_n of_o the_o word_n shall_v not_o be_v altogether_o without_o its_o fruit_n christ_n here_o have_v some_o and_o those_o of_o the_o ruler_n too_o who_o believe_v on_o he_o when_o other_o under_o the_o same_o word_n be_v harden_v nevertheless_o among_o the_o chief_a ruler_n also_o many_o believe_v on_o he_o observe_v 2._o that_o though_o many_o of_o the_o chief_a ruler_n have_v a_o secret_a belief_n or_o a_o inward_a persuasion_n that_o christ_n be_v the_o promise_a and_o expect_a messiah_n yet_o it_o be_v not_o sufficient_a to_o make_v they_o open_o own_o confess_v and_o avow_v he_o to_o be_v such_o for_o fear_n of_o excommunication_n from_o the_o pharisee_n they_o do_v not_o confess_v he_o lest_o they_o shall_v be_v put_v out_o of_o the_o synagogue_n slavish_a fear_n of_o man_n and_o suffer_v by_o they_o have_v hinder_v many_o from_o believe_v on_o christ_n and_o keep_v more_o from_o a_o open_a own_n and_o confess_v of_o he_o because_o of_o the_o pharisee_n they_o do_v not_o confess_v he_o observe_v 3._o as_o the_o fear_n of_o suffer_v on_o the_o one_o hand_n so_o the_o love_n of_o reputation_n on_o the_o other_o keep_v they_o from_o own_v and_o confess_v jesus_n to_o be_v the_o christ_n they_o love_v the_o praise_n of_o man_n more_o than_o the_o praise_n of_o god_n that_o be_v they_o value_v honour_n and_o applause_n from_o man_n more_o than_o god_n honour_v and_o approve_v they_o there_o be_v no_o great_a snare_n to_o draw_v person_n from_o their_o duty_n than_o inordinate_a love_n and_o affection_n to_o their_o own_o credit_n and_o reputation_n oh_o how_o often_o be_v the_o applause_n and_o commendation_n of_o man_n prefer_v before_o the_o testimony_n and_o approbation_n of_o god_n here_o be_v their_o snare_n they_o love_v the_o praise_n of_o man_n more_o than_o the_o praise_n of_o god_n 44_o ¶_o jesus_n cry_v and_o say_v he_o that_o believe_v on_o i_o believe_v not_o on_o i_o but_o on_o he_o that_o send_v i_o 45_o and_o he_o that_o see_v i_o see_v he_o that_o send_v i_o 46_o i_o be_o come_v a_o light_n into_o the_o world_n that_o whosoever_o doctrine_n be_v to_o reject_v he_o 2._o that_o such_o rejecter_n of_o christ_n and_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o gospel_n shall_v not_o escape_v the_o judgement_n of_o christ_n at_o the_o great_a day_n 3._o that_o at_o the_o great_a day_n be_v there_o no_o other_o witness_n against_o the_o rejecter_n of_o christ_n and_o his_o gospel_n but_o the_o word_n preach_v yet_o that_o alone_o will_v
