they_o also_o therefore_o say_v john_n i_o baptize_v you_o unto_o repentance_n 5._o the_o more_o knowledge_n a_o man_n have_v of_o christ_n the_o low_a will_v he_o abase_v himself_o before_o he_o and_o exalt_v christ_n the_o high_a this_o move_v john_n to_o say_v he_o that_o come_v after_o i_o be_v mighty_a than_o i_o etc._n etc._n 6._o the_o most_o excellent_a of_o man_n be_v not_o worthy_a of_o the_o mean_a employment_n of_o service_n to_o christ_n that_o be_v it_o which_o john_n say_v who_o shoe_n i_o be_o not_o worthy_a to_o bear_v 7._o there_o be_v a_o two_o fold_v baptism_n one_o of_o water_n pour_v upon_o the_o body_n by_o the_o minister_n another_o of_o the_o spirit_n pour_v forth_o upon_o a_o man_n soul_n by_o christ_n and_o these_o two_o may_v be_v in_o time_n distinguish_v for_o john_n say_v i_o baptize_v with_o water_n but_o he_o shall_v baptize_v with_o the_o holy_a ghost_n 8._o whosoever_o be_v baptize_v inward_o by_o the_o holy_a spirit_n be_v also_o baptize_v with_o fire_n that_o be_v by_o a_o more_o penetrative_a power_n and_o virtue_n than_o what_o water_n at_o first_o do_v show_v which_o virtue_n must_v go_v through_o the_o whole_a man_n unto_o through_o mortification_n of_o sin_n that_o be_v it_o which_o by_o way_n of_o explanation_n be_v import_v when_o he_o say_v with_o the_o holy_a ghost_n and_o with_o fire_n take_v baptism_n by_o fire_n here_o not_o for_o any_o extraordinary_a gift_n of_o miracle_n but_o for_o that_o which_o be_v common_a to_o the_o regenerate_v vers._n 12._o who_o fan_n be_v in_o his_o hand_n and_o he_o will_v thorough_o purge_v his_o floor_n and_o gather_v his_o wheat_n into_o the_o garner_n but_o he_o will_v burn_v up_o the_o chaff_n with_o unquenchable_a fire_n a_o five_o reason_n though_o now_o the_o fruitful_a and_o unfruitful_a be_v join_v one_o with_o another_o in_o the_o visible_a church_n as_o chaff_n and_o corn_n be_v mix_v on_o the_o floor_n yet_o christ_n will_v sever_v the_o one_o from_o the_o other_o and_o will_v take_v the_o fruitful_a to_o heaven_n and_o will_v cast_v the_o unfruitful_a in_o hell_n therefore_o bring_v forth_o good_a fruit_n doct._n 1._o the_o visible_a church_n be_v like_o a_o corn_n floor_n wherein_o good_a and_o bad_a as_o chaff_n and_o corn_n be_v mix_v together_o for_o so_o do_v the_o comparison_n import_n 2._o christ_n as_o the_o perfect_a husband_n man_n will_v so_o sever_v the_o one_o from_o the_o other_o that_o not_o one_o of_o the_o wicked_a shall_v be_v in_o company_n of_o the_o godly_a for_o he_o will_v thorough_o purge_v his_o floor_n 3._o christ_n have_v mean_n at_o hand_n to_o make_v the_o separation_n he_o have_v his_o word_n and_o church-censure_n and_o affliction_n and_o trial_n by_o persecution_n and_o death_n and_o the_o day_n of_o judgement_n when_o he_o shall_v full_o perfect_v the_o separation_n for_o his_o fan_n in_o his_o hand_n and_o he_o will_v thorough_o purge_v his_o floor_n 4._o the_o upright_a and_o fruitful_a shall_v be_v gather_v unto_o heaven_n the_o unfruitful_a as_o chaff_n e_o cast_n in_o hell_n not_o one_o of_o the_o godly_a shall_v perish_v not_o one_o of_o the_o wicked_a shall_v escape_v perdition_n for_o he_o will_v gather_v his_o wheat_n and_o burn_v the_o chaff_n ver._n 13._o then_o come_v jesus_n from_o galilee_n to_o jordan_n unto_o john_n to_o be_v baptize_v of_o he_o the_o second_o part_n of_o the_o chapter_n concern_v christ_n baptism_n wherein_o first_o we_o mark_v a_o providence_n of_o christ_n education_n in_o another_o part_n of_o the_o country_n than_o john_n baptist_n live_v in_o where_o john_n commission_n to_o baptize_v in_o the_o name_n of_o jesus_n appear_v to_o be_v divine_a so_o much_o the_o more_o that_o our_o lord_n and_o he_o have_v never_o see_v one_o another_o in_o the_o face_n before_o now_o not_o till_o now_o christ_n come_v from_o galilee_n to_o jordan_n 2._o our_o lord_n be_v please_v to_o be_v baptize_v for_o his_o own_o reason_n namely_o that_o he_o may_v countenance_v and_o bless_v his_o ordinance_n unto_o we_o as_o he_o do_v circumcision_n unto_o the_o jew_n and_o that_o he_o may_v present_v himself_o among_o sinner_n as_o our_o surety_n and_o offer_v himself_o to_o the_o father_n to_o be_v baptize_v with_o the_o baptism_n of_o affliction_n for_o our_o ransom_n ver._n 14._o but_o john_n forbid_v he_o say_v i_o have_v need_n to_o be_v baptize_v of_o thou_o and_o come_v thou_o to_o i_o this_o offer_n of_o christ_n to_o be_v baptize_v astonish_v john_n so_o far_o as_o he_o forbid_v christ_n to_o be_v baptize_v in_o regard_n he_o know_v christ_n need_v not_o baptism_n doct._n 1._o the_o clear_a sight_v of_o god_n servant_n do_v not_o see_v the_o deep_a of_o the_o lord_n work_v till_o he_o reveal_v it_o therefore_o be_v it_o that_o at_o first_o john_n refuse_v to_o baptize_v christ._n 2._o albeit_o it_o be_v sufficient_a to_o be_v once_o baptize_v outward_o yet_o baptism_n of_o the_o spirit_n must_v be_v renew_v frequent_o for_o john_n already_o endue_v with_o the_o holy_a spirit_n in_o a_o eminent_a measure_n say_v i_o have_v need_n to_o be_v baptize_v that_o be_v yet_o again_o to_o receive_v a_o large_a measure_n of_o this_o baptism_n yea_o the_o more_o of_o this_o grace_n be_v bestow_v upon_o any_o man_n the_o more_o be_v he_o sensible_a of_o his_o need_n and_o desirous_a of_o a_o further_a measure_n of_o it_o for_o none_o more_o holy_a than_o john_n and_o none_o more_o desirous_a to_o be_v more_o holy_a than_o john_n i_o have_v need_n to_o be_v baptize_v say_v he_o 3._o christ_n be_v the_o despenser_n of_o
