institution_n of_o it_o but_o as_o we_o find_v no_o great_a mention_n even_o of_o circumcision_n itself_o after_o the_o five_o book_n of_o moses_n and_o may_v therefore_o the_o less_o wonder_n at_o the_o no_o mention_n of_o baptism_n especial_o if_o as_o it_o may_v be_v institute_v after_o his_o time_n as_o we_o find_v as_o little_a mention_n even_o where_o it_o may_v have_v be_v more_o reasonable_o expect_v of_o the_o first_o jew_n be_v baptize_v into_o moses_n in_o the_o cloud_n and_o in_o the_o sea_n or_o of_o their_o eat_v and_o drink_v that_o spiritual_a repast_n whereof_o s._n paul_n speak_v 4._o speak_v 1_o cor._n 10.3_o 4._o so_o there_o be_v as_o little_a reason_n therefore_o to_o wonder_v at_o its_o silence_n concern_v this_o rite_n especial_o consider_v what_o be_v notorious_a enough_o from_o thence_o that_o god_n from_o time_n to_o time_n raise_v up_o prophet_n among_o they_o for_o their_o authority_n and_o preach_a may_v suffice_v to_o constitute_v or_o confirm_v a_o matter_n of_o great_a moment_n than_o the_o rite_n of_o baptism_n as_o add_v to_o circumcision_n can_v be_v suppose_v to_o have_v be_v there_o be_v therefore_o no_o great_a doubt_n to_o be_v make_v of_o a_o baptism_n among_o the_o jew_n antecedent_n to_o that_o of_o john_n the_o baptist_n and_o our_o saviour_n it_o will_v not_o be_v difficult_a to_o believe_v first_o that_o our_o saviour_n have_v a_o eye_n to_o it_o when_o he_o appoint_v the_o same_o rite_n to_o initiate_v man_n into_o his_o religion_n partly_o because_o it_o be_v his_o avow_a profession_n that_o he_o come_v rather_o to_o reform_v than_o destroy_v their_o former_a oeconomy_n and_o partly_o because_o he_o may_v the_o more_o reasonable_o hope_v to_o bring_v they_o over_o to_o that_o faith_n which_o it_o be_v a_o initiation_n into_o it_o will_v be_v as_o easy_a to_o believe_v second_o upon_o the_o score_n of_o the_o same_o condescension_n and_o compliance_n that_o christ_n depart_v as_o little_a as_o may_v be_v from_o their_o manner_n of_o administration_n of_o it_o or_o from_o the_o end_n which_o it_o be_v appoint_v for_o among_o they_o such_o a_o compliance_n be_v equal_o necessary_a to_o carry_v on_o his_o design_n of_o bring_v they_o over_o to_o his_o religion_n the_o consequence_n whereof_o will_v be_v three_o that_o where_o it_o do_v not_o very_o plain_o appear_v that_o averseness_n from_o any_o thing_n that_o be_v evil_a a_o averseness_n for_o all_o that_o which_o be_v alike_o a_o transgression_n of_o the_o divine_a law_n but_o as_o therefore_o nothing_o can_v hinder_v we_o from_o represent_v natural_a corruption_n as_o make_v man_n averse_a from_o all_o that_o be_v good_a and_o inclinable_a to_o every_o thing_n that_o be_v evil_a so_o neither_o can_v any_o thing_n oblige_v we_o to_o extend_v the_o force_n of_o it_o so_o far_o as_o to_o make_v it_o to_o determine_v they_o in_o all_o their_o action_n and_o according_o to_o carry_v they_o to_o a_o actual_a rejection_n of_o all_o that_o be_v good_a or_o a_o pursuance_n of_o all_o that_o be_v evil_a partly_o because_o man_n may_v and_o often_o do_v act_v contrary_a to_o their_o natural_a aversion_n or_o inclination_n where_o there_o be_v hope_n of_o temporal_a advantage_n or_o fear_v of_o any_o temporal_a evil_n and_o partly_o because_o we_o do_v not_o only_o find_v few_o natural_a man_n proceed_v to_o the_o extremity_n of_o impiety_n but_o find_v also_o great_a variety_n among_o they_o in_o the_o omission_n of_o good_a action_n or_o the_o commission_n of_o those_o that_o be_v evil_a of_o which_o variety_n what_o account_n can_v be_v give_v when_o the_o corruption_n of_o nature_n be_v and_o must_v be_v equal_a because_o all_o man_n be_v alike_o in_o and_o be_v alike_o descend_v from_o adam_n be_v it_o not_o that_o even_o that_o corruption_n leave_v place_n for_o the_o performance_n of_o many_o good_a and_o the_o avoid_n of_o many_o thing_n that_o be_v evil_a for_o to_o ascribe_v that_o variety_n either_o whole_o or_o principal_o to_o the_o different_a degree_n of_o god_n restrain_v grace_n be_v not_o only_o to_o speak_v without_o all_o authority_n that_o i_o know_v of_o but_o to_o take_v away_o all_o diversity_n between_o the_o evil_a demerit_n of_o natural_a man_n and_z together_o therewith_o all_o different_a degree_n of_o punishment_n yea_o to_o make_v the_o corruption_n of_o nature_n the_o only_a proper_a ground_n of_o punishment_n for_o as_o if_o there_o be_v nothing_o but_o god_n restrain_v grace_n to_o take_v off_o natural_a man_n from_o fall_v into_o the_o worst_a of_o sin_n the_o great_a actual_a sinner_n can_v deserve_v more_o punishment_n than_o he_o who_o offend_v in_o a_o far_o less_o degree_n because_o all_o demerit_n arise_v from_o the_o pravity_n of_o the_o will_n which_o be_v not_o more_o or_o less_o for_o the_o mere_a absence_n or_o presence_n of_o god_n restrain_v grace_n so_o the_o great_a actual_a sinner_n can_v become_v obnoxious_a to_o punishment_n upon_o the_o score_n of_o any_o other_o corruption_n than_o that_o of_o nature_n that_o as_o it_o make_v all_o his_o actual_a sin_n to_o be_v necessary_a and_o therefore_o in_o reason_n to_o bear_v the_o whole_a blame_n and_o punishment_n so_o receive_v no_o new_a aggravation_n from_o the_o want_n of_o that_o restrain_v grace_n which_o may_v have_v withhold_v the_o party_n from_o they_o in_o as_o much_o as_o that_o want_n if_o it_o be_v a_o fault_n be_v no_o less_o the_o result_n of_o his_o natural_a corruption_n than_o his_o actual_a offence_n be_v but_o therefore_o also_o as_o we_o can_v look_v upon_o natural_a corruption_n as_o determine_v man_n to_o all_o their_o actual_a error_n without_o take_v away_o all_o diversity_n between_o the_o demerit_n of_o natural_a man_n yea_o make_v natural_a corruption_n the_o only_a proper_a ground_n of_o their_o punishment_n so_o they_o who_o do_v so_o will_v be_v find_v to_o contradict_v the_o declaration_n of_o the_o scripture_n as_o well_o as_o the_o allow_a practice_n of_o the_o world_n for_o why_o if_o there_o be_v no_o difference_n between_o the_o demerit_n of_o natural_a man_n shall_v those_o that_o be_v in_o authority_n meet_v out_o different_a punishment_n to_o they_o according_a to_o the_o different_a degree_n or_o kind_n of_o those_o offence_n which_o they_o commit_v nay_o why_o shall_v the_o scripture_n affirm_v that_o it_o shall_v be_v more_o tolerable_a for_o some_o sinner_n 24._o sinner_n matt._n 11.22_o 24._o than_o for_o other_o at_o the_o great_a day_n of_o judgement_n that_o as_o it_o be_v a_o judgement_n of_o righteousness_n so_o be_v consequent_o to_o mete_v out_o equal_a punishment_n to_o all_o sinner_n if_o there_o be_v but_o a_o equality_n in_o their_o demerit_n again_o if_o natural_a corruption_n be_v upon_o the_o matter_n the_o only_a proper_a ground_n of_o punishment_n as_o it_o must_v of_o necessity_n be_v if_o it_o be_v the_o unavoidable_a cause_n of_o actual_a sin_n how_o come_v the_o scripture_n to_o declare_v that_o god_n will_v reward_v every_o man_n according_a to_o his_o work_n 2.6_o work_n rom._n 2.6_o yea_o the_o wicked_a 2.8_o wicked_a rom._n 2.8_o according_a to_o his_o work_n as_o well_o as_o the_o righteous_a according_a to_o they_o for_o if_o natural_a corruption_n be_v the_o only_a proper_a ground_n of_o punishment_n the_o work_n of_o man_n in_o propriety_n of_o speech_n can_v have_v no_o concernment_n in_o it_o and_o much_o less_o as_o the_o scripture_n declare_v be_v the_o principal_a object_n of_o judgement_n and_o therefore_o of_o that_o punishment_n which_o it_o shall_v award_v the_o utmost_a in_o my_o opinion_n that_o can_v be_v say_v in_o this_o particular_a be_v that_o as_o man_n by_o the_o corruption_n of_o their_o nature_n be_v averse_a from_o every_o thing_n that_o be_v good_a so_o that_o averseness_n will_v indispose_v those_o in_o who_o that_o corruption_n abide_v to_o all_o good_a action_n whatsoever_o and_o infallible_o take_v they_o off_o from_o they_o where_o either_o some_o work_n of_o god_n upon_o their_o mind_n do_v not_o thrust_v they_o on_o to_o they_o or_o the_o comeliness_n or_o profitableness_n thereof_o shall_v not_o more_o strong_o impel_v they_o to_o the_o practice_n of_o they_o the_o former_a whereof_o will_v make_v the_o consent_n of_o such_o person_n even_o to_o those_o good_a action_n which_o they_o perform_v incomplete_a and_o imperfect_a and_o indeed_o a_o consent_n to_o they_o rather_o as_o expedient_a than_o good_a whence_o it_o be_v that_o our_o church_n 13._o church_n art_n 13._o represent_v they_o as_o have_v the_o nature_n of_o sin_n the_o latter_a cause_n they_o to_o neglect_v all_o such_o as_o be_v not_o in_o a_o manner_n thrust_v upon_o they_o by_o god_n or_o have_v not_o one_o of_o the_o former_a motive_n to_o incite_v they_o to_o the_o practice_n of_o they_o yea_o present_a to_o their_o mind_n when_o they_o ought_v to_o make_v use_n of_o they_o which_o will_v occasion_v such_o person_n for_o the_o most_o part_n to_o neglect_v all_o good_a action_n where_o there_o be_v not_o place_n for_o serious_a thought_n as_o in_o case_n of_o surprise_n or_o where_o they_o have_v not_o be_v habituate_v to_o the_o practice_n of_o virtue_n or_o to_o the_o consideration_n of_o the_o comeliness_n or_o profitableness_n thereof_o but_o as_o where_o there_o be_v place_n for_o serious_a thought_n there_o may_v be_v place_n also_o for_o the_o former_a motive_n to_o impel_v man_n to_o the_o practice_n of_o that_o from_o which_o they_o be_v otherwise_o sufficient_o averse_a so_o it_o be_v not_o unlikely_a that_o the_o mind_n of_o those_o who_o have_v be_v before_o habituate_v to_o the_o practice_n or_o contemplation_n of_o virtue_n may_v be_v thrust_v on_o by_o the_o former_a motive_n to_o pursue_v many_o thing_n that_o be_v good_a yea_o acquit_v themselves_o singular_o in_o they_o of_o which_o yet_o if_o any_o doubt_n be_v make_v we_o have_v the_o laudable_a example_n of_o several_a heathen_n to_o convince_v we_o thereof_o and_o who_o because_o heathen_a can_v be_v suppose_v to_o be_v free_a from_o the_o power_n of_o natural_a corruption_n or_o to_o be_v thrust_v on_o by_o other_o motive_n than_o the_o former_a to_o the_o do_v of_o such_o action_n from_o which_o they_o be_v natural_o so_o averse_a in_o like_a manner_n as_o man_n by_o the_o corruption_n of_o their_o nature_n be_v incline_v to_o every_o thing_n that_o be_v evil_a as_o well_o as_o averse_v from_o every_o thing_n that_o be_v good_a so_o that_o inclination_n will_v dispose_v those_o in_o who_o it_o be_v to_o a_o allowance_n of_o all_o evil_a action_n and_o infallible_o betray_v they_o into_o they_o where_o god_n restrain_v grace_n do_v not_o withhold_v they_o or_o the_o indecency_n or_o dangerous_a consequence_n of_o the_o other_o do_v not_o alike_o keep_v they_o back_o the_o former_a whereof_o will_v make_v their_o abstain_v even_o from_o those_o evil_a action_n which_o they_o avoid_v to_o be_v but_o a_o imperfect_a abstinence_n from_o they_o and_o indeed_o a_o abstinence_n from_o they_o rather_o as_o inexpedient_a than_o evil_a the_o latter_a cause_n they_o to_o fall_v into_o all_o such_o from_o which_o they_o be_v not_o restrain_v by_o god_n or_o by_o a_o present_a and_z intense_a consideration_n of_o the_o indecency_n or_o danger_n
without_o it_o do_v not_o prevail_v with_o i_o to_o deny_v that_o severe_a usage_n of_o they_o neither_o will_v it_o avail_v to_o say_v which_o be_v otherwise_o considerable_a enough_o that_o we_o have_v for_o the_o belief_n of_o this_o last_o the_o testimony_n of_o our_o sense_n which_o be_v not_o to_o be_v allege_v as_o to_o the_o other_o for_o the_o question_n be_v not_o now_o whether_o the_o severe_a usage_n of_o infant_n and_o child_n may_v not_o more_o reasonable_o be_v believe_v than_o their_o original_a sin_n upon_o the_o account_n of_o the_o great_a evidence_n there_o may_v be_v of_o it_o but_o whether_o we_o can_v any_o more_o deny_v the_o original_a sin_n of_o infant_n and_o child_n upon_o the_o account_n of_o our_o inability_n to_o apprehend_v how_o they_o shall_v consent_v unto_o it_o than_o we_o can_v deny_v the_o severe_a usage_n of_o the_o same_o person_n upon_o the_o account_n of_o our_o inability_n to_o apprehend_v how_o they_o shall_v come_v to_o be_v so_o deal_v with_o without_o the_o other_o which_o that_o we_o can_v be_v evident_a from_o hence_o that_o we_o be_v equal_o at_o a_o loss_n in_o our_o apprehension_n about_o the_o one_o and_o the_o other_o that_o i_o say_v not_o also_o more_o at_o a_o loss_n about_o the_o latter_a than_o about_o the_o former_a and_o indeed_o as_o we_o find_v it_o necessary_a to_o believe_v many_o thing_n notwithstanding_o our_o inability_n to_o apprehend_v how_o they_o shall_v come_v to_o pass_v and_o ought_v not_o therefore_o to_o deny_v the_o be_v of_o any_o one_o thing_n upon_o the_o sole_a account_n of_o that_o inability_n so_o our_o apprehension_n be_v so_o short_a as_o to_o the_o mode_n of_o those_o thing_n of_o the_o be_v whereof_o we_o be_v most_o assure_v that_o it_o will_v hardly_o be_v deem_v reasonable_a to_o insist_v upon_o the_o suggestion_n of_o they_o against_o the_o affirmation_n of_o the_o scripture_n partly_o because_o of_o the_o authority_n of_o he_o from_o who_o it_o proceed_v and_o partly_o because_o we_o can_v so_o easy_o fail_v in_o our_o apprehension_n concern_v the_o due_a sense_n of_o the_o affirmation_n of_o it_o as_o in_o the_o deduction_n of_o our_o own_o reason_n concern_v the_o thing_n affirm_v nothing_o more_o be_v require_v to_o the_o understanding_n of_o the_o one_o than_o a_o due_a consideration_n of_o the_o signification_n of_o the_o word_n wherein_o they_o be_v express_v whereas_o to_o the_o right_a order_n of_o the_o other_o there_o be_v require_v a_o due_a understanding_n of_o the_o nature_n of_o those_o thing_n about_o which_o we_o reason_n which_o be_v both_o a_o matter_n of_o far_o great_a difficulty_n and_o in_o many_o case_n impossible_a to_o be_v attain_v whatever_o difficulty_n therefore_o there_o may_v be_v in_o apprehend_v how_o original_a sin_n can_v have_v the_o consent_n of_o those_o in_o who_o it_o be_v suppose_v to_o be_v and_o consequent_o how_o it_o shall_v be_v true_o and_o proper_o a_o sin_n yet_o ought_v not_o that_o to_o be_v a_o bar_n against_o our_o belief_n of_o it_o if_o the_o scripture_n have_v represent_v it_o as_o such_o and_o which_o whether_o it_o have_v or_o no_o i_o shall_v leave_v to_o be_v judge_v by_o what_o i_o have_v before_o observe_v from_o it_o from_o such_o objection_n as_o be_v level_v more_o immediate_o against_o the_o be_v of_o original_a sin_n pass_v we_o to_o those_o which_o impugn_v the_o derivation_n of_o it_o from_o adam_n and_o from_o who_o we_o have_v affirm_v it_o to_o proceed_v which_o objection_n again_o do_v either_o tend_v to_o show_v that_o it_o have_v its_o original_a from_o something_o else_o or_o that_o it_o can_v be_v suppose_v to_o have_v its_o original_a from_o adam_n a_o opinion_n have_v prevail_v of_o late_a year_n that_o that_o which_o we_o call_v original_a sin_n take_v its_o rise_n from_o the_o sin_n of_o particular_a soul_n in_o some_o praexistent_a estate_n and_o from_o those_o evil_a habit_n which_o they_o contract_v by_o they_o and_o certain_o the_o opinion_n be_v reasonable_a enough_o to_o be_v embrace_v if_o the_o praeexistence_n of_o soul_n be_v but_o as_o well_o prove_v as_o it_o be_v specious_o contrive_v for_o that_o suppose_v it_o will_v be_v no_o hard_a matter_n to_o give_v a_o account_n of_o the_o rise_n of_o that_o corruption_n which_o be_v in_o we_o nor_o yet_o of_o god_n afflict_v those_o on_o who_o no_o other_o blame_n appear_v that_o corruption_n as_o it_o be_v no_o other_o than_o what_o particular_a soul_n have_v themselves_o contract_v so_o make_v they_o as_o obnoxious_a to_o the_o scripture_n be_v but_o such_o it_o seem_v be_v the_o restlessness_n of_o some_o man_n mind_n that_o if_o they_o can_v satisfy_v their_o scruple_n from_o what_o the_o scripture_n have_v advance_v as_o the_o same_o learned_a man_n go_v on_o by_o a_o desuetude_n of_o think_v of_o their_o former_a action_n and_o whereby_o it_o sometime_o come_v to_o pass_v as_o he_o there_o observe_v that_o what_o we_o have_v earnest_o meditate_a labour_v for_o and_o pen_v down_o with_o our_o own_o hand_n when_o we_o be_v at_o school_n become_v so_o lose_v to_o our_o memory_n that_o if_o we_o do_v not_o see_v our_o own_o handwriting_n to_o it_o we_o shall_v not_o acknowledge_v it_o to_o be_v our_o own_o but_o do_v this_o come_v home_o to_o the_o present_a case_n do_v it_o persuade_v such_o a_o forgetfulness_n in_o the_o soul_n of_o man_n as_o not_o only_o not_o to_o remember_v their_o particular_a action_n but_o not_o so_o much_o as_o that_o they_o be_v in_o a_o condition_n to_o act_v any_o thing_n or_o act_v any_o thing_n under_o it_o for_o though_o a_o man_n may_v forget_v the_o particular_a exercise_n he_o do_v at_o school_n yet_o can_v any_o man_n though_o he_o sleep_v a_o age_n and_o never_o so_o much_o as_o dream_v in_o all_o that_o time_n of_o be_v at_o school_n or_o any_o other_o thing_n be_v suppose_v if_o he_o awake_v in_o his_o right_a wit_n to_o forget_v he_o be_v sometime_o in_o such_o a_o place_n and_o perform_v some_o exercise_n in_o it_o be_v it_o last_o by_o mean_n of_o some_o distemper_n that_o happen_v to_o the_o soul_n by_o come_v into_o a_o earthly_a body_n and_o by_o which_o the_o forementioned_a person_n conceive_v the_o soul_n may_v suffer_v in_o its_o memory_n as_o we_o see_v it_o sometime_o do_v in_o its_o present_a state_n by_o casualty_n and_o disease_n yea_o so_o far_o as_o to_o make_v the_o person_n forget_v his_o own_o name_n but_o though_o the_o soul_n shall_v be_v suppose_v to_o fall_v into_o such_o a_o forgetfulness_n by_o enter_v into_o a_o body_n as_o we_o see_v it_o be_v a_o long_a time_n before_o it_o come_v to_o exercise_v its_o respective_a faculty_n yet_o be_v there_o any_o reason_n to_o think_v it_o shall_v continue_v in_o it_o after_o it_o have_v get_v above_o the_o infirmity_n of_o the_o other_o yea_o so_o far_o as_o to_o reason_n with_o that_o clearness_n wherewith_o this_o author_n do_v in_o many_o thing_n and_o with_o great_a plausibility_n in_o all_o other_o for_o though_o man_n may_v happen_v to_o be_v so_o strike_v by_o a_o disease_n as_o to_o forget_v even_o their_o own_o name_n yea_o have_v undoubted_o suffer_v in_o that_o nature_n yet_o be_v there_o no_o evidence_n from_o story_n that_o i_o know_v of_o or_o indeed_o presumption_n for_o the_o supposition_n of_o it_o that_o though_o the_o party_n do_v again_o recover_v the_o free_a use_n of_o their_o faculty_n yet_o they_o be_v unable_a to_o look_v back_o to_o their_o pristine_a state_n or_o call_v to_o mind_v any_o of_o the_o passage_n thereof_o so_o much_o more_o specious_a than_o strong_a be_v the_o reason_n that_o author_n allege_v to_o show_v the_o soul_n to_o be_v in_o a_o natural_a incapacity_n to_o call_v to_o mind_v its_o pristin_a state_n and_o action_n and_o yet_o if_o they_o prove_v what_o they_o intend_v they_o will_v hardly_o make_v it_o credible_a that_o it_o shall_v be_v without_o all_o knowledge_n of_o they_o god_n who_o thrust_v it_o down_o into_o its_o present_a state_n by_o reason_n of_o its_o former_a error_n be_v likely_a enough_o to_o bring_v they_o to_o its_o mind_n though_o it_o shall_v be_v otherwise_o ignorant_a of_o they_o otherwise_o he_o shall_v neither_o make_v it_o sensible_a of_o its_o own_o guilt_n and_o his_o choose_n thus_o to_o punish_v it_o which_o be_v one_o suppose_a end_n of_o his_o thrust_v it_o down_o nor_o careful_a to_o break_v off_o from_o it_o which_o be_v another_o and_o i_o shall_v only_o add_v that_o as_o we_o can_v therefore_o be_v in_o any_o great_a danger_n from_o those_o objection_n which_o pretend_v to_o derive_v original_a sin_n from_o another_o principle_n so_o shall_v we_o not_o now_o be_v much_o incommode_v by_o the_o force_n of_o those_o objection_n which_o profess_v more_o direct_o to_o impugn_v the_o derivation_n of_o it_o from_o adam_n for_o as_o those_o objection_n be_v principal_o found_v upon_o the_o incompetency_n of_o adam_n to_o involve_v all_o mankind_n in_o the_o guilt_n of_o his_o transgression_n so_o i_o have_v not_o only_o make_v it_o appear_v already_o that_o adam_n be_v no_o way_n incompetent_a for_o that_o purpose_n because_o appoint_v by_o god_n as_o the_o representative_a of_o all_o mankind_n but_o say_v enough_o though_o not_o to_o answer_v yet_o to_o silence_v what_o be_v object_v against_o it_o from_o the_o suppose_a want_n of_o our_o consent_n to_o his_o transgression_n which_o will_v leave_v nothing_o more_o for_o we_o to_o do_v than_o to_o consider_v what_o be_v object_v against_o the_o mean_n we_o have_v before_o assign_v of_o the_o convey_n of_o that_o original_a sin_n whereof_o we_o speak_v but_o as_o i_o have_v not_o be_v positive_a in_o assign_v the_o particular_a mean_n of_o its_o conveyance_n and_o must_v therefore_o be_v the_o less_o concern_v to_o answer_v what_o be_v object_v against_o they_o so_o i_o shall_v oppose_v to_o all_o those_o objection_n the_o assurance_n we_o have_v from_o the_o scripture_n of_o our_o have_v it_o in_o we_o from_o our_o conception_n and_o birth_n yea_o contract_a it_o from_o those_o fleshly_a and_o unclean_a person_n from_o who_o we_o be_v descend_v that_o as_o it_o be_v enough_o to_o show_v that_o it_o be_v convey_v to_o we_o by_o the_o same_o general_a mean_n by_o which_o our_o very_a nature_n be_v so_o make_v it_o at_o least_o probable_a that_o it_o pass_v from_o they_o to_o we_o together_o with_o our_o soul_n and_o from_o thence_o diffuse_v itself_o unto_o our_o body_n and_o how_o far_o a_o probability_n so_o found_v aught_o to_o prevail_v against_o all_o the_o argument_n which_o be_v oppose_v to_o the_o traduction_n of_o soul_n especial_o when_o the_o scripture_n seem_v to_o favour_v that_o traduction_n also_o will_v be_v no_o hard_a matter_n for_o he_o to_o judge_v who_o shall_v consider_v on_o the_o one_o hand_n the_o shortness_n of_o our_o own_o reason_n and_o on_o the_o other_o what_o difficulty_n attend_v the_o creation_n and_o infusion_n as_o well_o as_o the_o traduction_n of_o soul_n for_o as_o those_o very_a difficulty_n will_v oblige_v we_o to_o sit_v down_o after_o all_o with_o a_o probable_a assent_n in_o this_o affair_n so_o the_o shortness_n of_o our_o own_o reason_n to_o guide_v that_o assent_n rather_o by_o probable_a testimony_n of_o scripture_n than_o by_o probable_a argument_n from_o reason_n because_o as_o we_o be_v more_o assure_v of_o the_o truth_n of_o those_o testimony_n than_o we_o can_v be_v of_o the_o truth_n of_o any_o of_o those_o argument_n which_o we_o ground_n ourselves_o upon_o in_o this_o affair_n so_o we_o can_v so_o easy_o fail_v in_o our_o apprehension_n concern_v the_o other_o nothing_o more_o be_v require_v towards_o the_o apprehend_v the_o force_n of_o the_o former_a than_o the_o due_a consideration_n of_o the_o sense_n of_o the_o word_n wherein_o they_o be_v express_v whereas_o to_o the_o apprehend_n of_o the_o force_n of_o the_o latter_a we_o must_v have_v a_o clear_a knowledge_n of_o the_o nature_n of_o those_o thing_n about_o which_o they_o be_v conversant_a which_o be_v certain_o a_o matter_n of_o far_o great_a difficulty_n and_o wherein_o therefore_o we_o may_v more_o easy_o mistake_v only_o if_o what_o be_v say_v in_o this_o particular_a may_v not_o be_v think_v to_o be_v satisfactory_a because_o rather_o a_o bar_n to_o what_o be_v object_v against_o the_o traduction_n of_o soul_n and_o consequent_o of_o original_a sin_n than_o any_o direct_a answer_n to_o it_o i_o shall_v desire_v those_o who_o be_v dissatisfy_v with_o it_o to_o give_v such_o a_o answer_n as_o they_o themselves_o demand_v to_o what_o be_v object_v by_o the_o other_o party_n against_o the_o immediate_a creation_n and_o infusion_n of_o they_o it_o seem_v not_o so_o easy_a to_o imagine_v that_o i_o may_v not_o now_o press_v they_o with_o any_o other_o inconvenience_n that_o god_n shall_v create_v a_o soul_n on_o purpose_n to_o his_o complacency_n as_o well_o as_o cohabitation_n to_o she_o who_o have_v abandon_v he_o as_o to_o he_o but_o therefore_o as_o the_o believe_a wife_n be_v not_o so_o much_o one_o with_o the_o unbelieve_a husband_n as_o he_o be_v with_o she_o and_o can_v therefore_o be_v so_o likely_a to_o be_v pollute_v by_o he_o as_o he_o be_v to_o be_v sanctify_v by_o she_o so_o she_o become_v yet_o less_o likely_a to_o be_v pollute_v by_o he_o because_o communicate_v with_o he_o in_o such_o act_n or_o act_n as_o be_v not_o only_o lawful_a in_o themselves_o but_o moreover_o the_o indispensible_a duty_n of_o that_o marriage_n which_o she_o have_v contract_v and_o which_o whilst_o he_o be_v thus_o please_v to_o dwell_v with_o she_o she_o be_v by_o our_o apostle_n himself_o oblige_v to_o maintain_v and_o indeed_o as_o from_o such_o a_o match_n there_o be_v more_o reason_n to_o expect_v sanctification_n to_o the_o unbeliever_n than_o there_o be_v of_o any_o fear_n of_o pollution_n to_o the_o other_o so_o there_o will_v be_v yet_o less_o doubt_n of_o it_o if_o we_o consider_v the_o sanctification_n here_o speak_v of_o not_o as_o a_o inward_a but_o a_o outward_a one_o and_o such_o a_o outward_a one_o too_o by_o which_o the_o party_n sanctify_v attain_v only_o the_o privilege_n of_o be_v account_v of_o as_o a_o christian_a husband_n and_o according_o of_o convey_n to_o those_o child_n that_o descend_v from_o they_o both_o a_o right_n to_o the_o sacrament_n of_o baptism_n for_o what_o less_o can_v be_v expect_v from_o a_o merciful_a god_n where_o the_o unbeliever_n though_o continue_v such_o yet_o take_v pleasure_n notwithstanding_o that_o in_o his_o christian_a consort_n and_o she_o on_o the_o other_o side_n though_o abominate_v his_o infidelity_n yet_o in_o compliance_n with_o that_o marriage_n wherein_o christianity_n find_v she_o cohabit_v with_o he_o notwithstanding_o and_o no_o doubt_n both_o do_v and_o will_v employ_v all_o her_o kindness_n and_o endeavour_n to_o gain_v he_o to_o a_o far_a approbation_n both_o of_o she_o and_o of_o the_o religion_n she_o have_v espouse_v which_o suppose_v a_o way_n will_v be_v open_a to_o give_v a_o clear_a account_n of_o the_o thing_n intend_v and_o withal_o of_o the_o force_n it_o be_v of_o to_o persuade_v the_o believe_a wife_n continue_v with_o the_o unbelieve_a husband_n if_o he_o as_o be_v suppose_v in_o the_o present_a case_n be_v as_o willing_a to_o dwell_v with_o she_o the_o force_n thereof_o lie_v in_o this_o that_o the_o believe_a wife_n shall_v in_o that_o case_n be_v so_o far_o from_o be_v pollute_v by_o the_o converse_n of_o the_o unbelieve_a husband_n which_o be_v no_o doubt_n these_o corinthian_n fear_n when_o they_o put_v this_o case_n to_o s._n paul_n that_o on_o the_o contrary_a the_o unbelieving_a husband_n shall_v be_v so_o far_o sanctify_v by_o she_o as_o to_o be_v to_o she_o in_o the_o place_n of_o a_o christian_n one_o and_o enjoy_v all_o the_o privilege_n of_o such_o the_o unbelieving_a husband_n by_o become_v one_o flesh_n with_o the_o believe_a wife_n become_v so_o far_a christian_a also_o and_o so_o account_v of_o both_o by_o god_n and_o the_o church_n of_o which_o they_o have_v this_o undeniable_a proof_n that_o the_o child_n of_o those_o match_n be_v not_o look_v upon_o as_o unclean_a or_o heathen_a which_o they_o must_v have_v be_v in_o parent_n and_o i_o be_o yet_o more_o confirm_v in_o it_o by_o the_o fondness_n of_o that_o notion_n which_o have_v be_v set_v up_o to_o supplant_v it_o and_o by_o which_o the_o child_n of_o such_o match_n become_v the_o issue_n of_o a_o lawful_a marriage_n and_o not_o of_o a_o unlawful_a mixture_n for_o beside_o that_o they_o who_o advance_v this_o notion_n make_v the_o word_n else_o be_v your_o child_n unclean_a etc._n etc._n to_o refer_v rather_o to_o the_o precept_n of_o the_o believer_n cohabit_v with_o the_o unbeliever_n than_o to_o the_o unbeliever_n be_v sanctify_v by_o the_o believer_n to_o which_o last_o yet_o it_o apparent_o refer_v and_o be_v assign_v by_o s._n paul_n as_o a_o proof_n of_o they_o suppose_v that_o in_o this_o notion_n of_o they_o which_o there_o be_v not_o the_o least_o ground_n for_o and_o which_o indeed_o this_o very_a place_n do_v sufficient_o confute_v for_o who_o ever_o say_v or_o can_v say_v that_o the_o marriage_n of_o the_o heathen_a be_v unlawful_a which_o yet_o they_o must_v have_v be_v if_o there_o need_v the_o cohabitation_n of_o the_o faithful_a to_o make_v they_o lawful_a and_o the_o child_n that_o be_v bear_v of_o they_o to_o be_v legitimate_a nay_o who_o see_v not_o that_o s._n paul_n suppose_v those_o marriage_n to_o be_v lawful_a when_o he_o require_v the_o believe_a party_n to_o cohabit_v with_o the_o unbeliever_n for_o otherwise_o no_o doubt_n he_o will_v rather_o have_v advise_v to_o break_v off_o all_o commerce_n with_o the_o infidel_n or_o proceed_v to_o a_o new_a contract_n both_o which_o yet_o he_o be_v but_o on_o the_o contrary_n be_v equal_o fit_v to_o be_v administer_v to_o both_o sex_n and_o second_o because_o it_o appear_v from_o what_o be_v before_o say_v 1_o say_v part_v 1_o concern_v the_o infant_n estate_n if_o therefore_o there_o be_v any_o thing_n to_o hinder_v our_o argue_v from_o circumcision_n in_o this_o particular_a it_o must_v be_v it_o be_v not_o be_v pretend_v by_o ourselves_o to_o be_v a_o direction_n as_o to_o the_o day_n of_o its_o administration_n as_o well_o as_o to_o the_o person_n to_o who_o it_o ought_v to_o be_v administer_v but_o beside_o that_o
