with_o he_o in_o it_o 1_o we_o consent_v that_o the_o command_n to_o be_v baptize_v to_o parent_n and_o child_n be_v one_o then_o what_o say_v the_o command_v repent_v and_o be_v baptize_v we_o answer_v what_o god_n have_v join_v together_o let_v no_o man_n put_v asunder_o the_o accuser_n be_v tell_v but_o now_o of_o a_o inseparable_a connexion_n he_o may_v have_v better_o observe_v it_o here_o then_o where_o he_o seek_v it_o but_o 2_o though_o we_o approve_v our_o accuser_n in_o the_o first_o part_n of_o what_o he_o affirm_v yet_o we_o must_v leave_v he_o to_o himself_o to_o make_v good_a his_o reason_n viz._n if_o any_o to_o who_o the_o promise_n be_v make_v may_v not_o be_v baptize_v then_o there_o be_v no_o force_n in_o the_o apostle_n argument_n we_o make_v no_o question_n but_o that_o notwithstanding_o the_o multitude_n of_o convert_v at_o this_o sermon_n yet_o there_o be_v very_o many_o jew_n to_o who_o this_o promise_n be_v make_v equal_o with_o those_o that_o be_v convert_v who_o persist_v in_o their_o obstinacy_n and_o thereby_o render_v themselves_o and_o their_o child_n incapable_a of_o baptism_n upon_o the_o accuser_n own_o principle_n nevertheless_o the_o argument_n the_o apostle_n make_v use_v of_o be_v not_o therefore_o without_o force_n because_o they_o may_v not_o be_v baptize_v the_o accuser_n have_v put_v a_o end_n to_o the_o cruel_a torture_n with_o which_o he_o have_v rack_v the_o scripture_n beyond_o all_o bound_n of_o sobriety_n he_o lead_v you_o to_o see_v his_o fair_a fruit_n of_o better_a information_n where_o we_o believe_v you_o will_v find_v enough_o to_o discover_v the_o person_n be_v very_o great_a want_n of_o a_o sober_a spirit_n to_o say_v no_o more_o accuser_n thus_o the_o lord_n satisfy_v i_o about_o infant-baptism_n be_v thus_o satisfy_v i_o go_v to_o hear_v the_o public_a ministry_n but_o this_o come_n to_o the_o ear_n of_o the_o anabaptist_n there_o come_v three_o of_o their_o society_n the_o next_o day_n to_o i_o to_o have_v a_o account_n concern_v this_o thing_n i_o tell_v they_o if_o they_o will_v be_v please_v to_o come_v at_o a_o time_n appoint_v i_o will_v give_v they_o the_o reason_n of_o my_o withdraw_n from_o they_o and_o according_o they_o come_v the_o preacher_n and_o principale_v among_o they_o where_o i_o give_v they_o a_o account_n of_o my_o withdraw_n from_o they_o as_o many_o of_o my_o friend_n can_v bear_v i_o witness_v which_o be_v as_o follow_v 1._o their_o deny_v the_o child_n of_o believer_n a_o right_a to_o the_o covenant_n 2._o live_v in_o constant_a neglect_n of_o a_o ordinance_n of_o christ_n viz._n sing_v of_o psalm_n answer_n thus_o the_o lord_n satisfy_v i_o etc._n etc._n and_o in_o his_o entrance_n on_o this_o of_o baptism_n he_o say_v and_o upon_o serious_a inquire_v into_o the_o word_n and_o earnest_n seek_v of_o the_o lord_n it_o please_v he_o to_o satisfy_v i_o and_o a_o little_a after_o but_o by_o consider_v i_o see_v their_o mistake_n etc._n etc._n if_o the_o accuser_n deserve_v the_o praise_n which_o seem_v desire_v by_o he_o and_o allow_v to_o he_o of_o have_v with_o much_o search_n of_o the_o scripture_n consideration_n and_o prayer_n sound_v out_o and_o set_v in_o order_n these_o ground_n wherein_o his_o satisfaction_n lay_v before_o he_o depart_v from_o we_o will_v it_o not_o seem_v somewhat_o unhandsome_a deal_n and_o beneath_o a_o to_o abraham_n heir_n that_o they_o be_v the_o son_n of_o his_o natural_a generation_n and_o thereby_o make_v capable_a of_o a_o inheritance_n in_o the_o figure_n and_o in_o the_o letter_n that_o therefore_o it_o suffice_v by_o be_v the_o child_n according_a to_o natural_a generation_n of_o any_o believer_n to_o be_v upon_o that_o account_n a_o heir_n of_o god_n and_o joynt-heir_n with_o christ_n in_o the_o very_a substance_n and_o mystery_n which_o the_o former_a administration_n do_v prefigure_v we_o therefore_o shall_v deny_v the_o argument_n rake_v up_o out_o of_o these_o two_o abuse_a scripture_n and_o we_o say_v that_o it_o be_v a_o absurd_a as_o well_o as_o a_o presumptuous_a reason_n from_o the_o promise_n to_o abraham_n and_o his_o seed_n to_o infer_v or_o suppose_v that_o the_o infant_n of_o believer_n be_v joynt-heir_n with_o christ_n and_o their_o godly_a parent_n under_o the_o administration_n of_o grace_n because_o of_o the_o birth-priviledge_n give_v to_o abraham_n and_o his_o seed_n by_o the_o law_n accuser_n arg._n 12._o last_o if_o child_n be_v exclude_v from_o the_o promise_n it_o seem_v the_o apostle_n go_v about_o rather_o to_o deceive_v his_o hearer_n then_o to_o inform_v they_o it_o be_v very_o unlikely_a the_o apostle_n will_v use_v the_o same_o dialect_n of_o the_o covenant_n that_o be_v former_o use_v to_o abraham_n i_o be_o thy_o god_n and_o the_o god_n of_o thy_o seed_n the_o promise_n be_v to_o you_o and_o your_o child_n if_o it_o have_v be_v his_o mind_n that_o child_n shall_v be_v exclude_v i_o wish_v that_o man_n will_v with_o unbiased_a heart_n weigh_v these_o thing_n and_o you_o shall_v see_v that_o the_o child_n of_o believer_n be_v in_o the_o promise_n answer_n 1._o we_o say_v that_o the_o apostle_n in_o plain_a term_n tell_v they_o that_o the_o promise_n be_v to_o you_o and_o to_o your_o child_n and_o in_o the_o strength_n of_o that_o gracious_a promise_n persuade_v they_o to_o repentance_n and_o baptism_n but_o what_o if_o children_n be_v not_o exclude_v from_o the_o promise_n where_o come_v in_o infant-baptism_n upon_o that_o account_n and_o this_o shall_v have_v be_v the_o very_a first_o thing_n if_o he_o have_v intend_v ingenuous_o to_o have_v proceed_v and_o there_o be_v a_o fair_a occasion_n for_o it_o in_o the_o first_o proposition_n that_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n stand_v now_o in_o force_n to_o the_o child_n of_o believer_n under_o the_o gospel_n but_o in_o stead_n of_o a_o fair_a proof_n as_o well_o there_o as_o all_o along_o we_o have_v a_o parcel_n of_o doubtful_a and_o equivocal_a term_n make_v use_v of_o without_o any_o discovery_n in_o what_o sense_n they_o be_v apply_v of_o which_o artifice_n we_o have_v frequent_a experience_n and_o we_o have_v some_o ground_n to_o judge_v by_o the_o management_n of_o what_o have_v pass_v that_o the_o opponent_n dare_v not_o open_v that_o door_n lest_o the_o light_n thereby_o enter_v will_v have_v manifest_v these_o and_o the_o like_a inconsequential_a and_o confuse_a reason_v and_o that_o therefore_o it_o be_v think_v best_o silent_o to_o trust_v the_o credit_n of_o that_o point_n with_o the_o good_a disposition_n of_o the_o credulous_a reader_n have_v to_o deal_v with_o we_o who_o in_o a_o jeer_n he_o scorn_v with_o the_o title_n of_o a_o learned_a company_n mean_v a_o company_n of_o silly_a follow_v 2._o what_o a_o odious_a and_o audacious_a inference_n he_o here_o impose_v upon_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n that_o if_o infant-baptism_n may_v not_o be_v conclude_v from_o the_o word_n allege_v the_o promise_n be_v to_o you_o and_o to_o your_o child_n then_o the_o apostle_n use_v of_o they_o be_v in_o a_o deceit_n we_o have_v already_o make_v know_v that_o the_o use_v make_v of_o these_o word_n be_v to_o induce_v poor_a grieve_a sinner_n to_o repentance_n as_o contain_v a_o doctrine_n full_a of_o comfort_n for_o such_o that_o repent_v and_o be_v baptize_v they_o and_o they_o in_o all_o generation_n have_v promise_n of_o christ_n and_o all_o his_o benefit_n and_o what_o be_v the_o deceit_n herein_o indeed_o to_o promise_v a_o inheritance_n in_o christ_n to_o poor_a creature_n and_o to_o affix_v a_o seal_n of_o god_n to_o that_o promise_n without_o any_o colour_n of_o authority_n by_o any_o rule_n of_o the_o word_n may_v perhaps_o be_v in_o time_n charge_v as_o a_o notorious_a deceit_n the_o good_a lord_n draw_v all_o his_o faithful_a servant_n out_o of_o it_o 3._o that_o the_o apostle_n use_v the_o like_a dialect_n as_o he_o please_v to_o set_v it_o out_o phrase_n of_o speech_n to_o these_o infant_n that_o god_n be_v please_v to_o use_v to_o abraham_n at_o the_o confirmation_n of_o the_o covenant_n viz._n i_o be_o thy_o god_n and_o the_o god_n of_o thy_o seed_n the_o promise_n be_v to_o you_o and_o to_o your_o child_n be_v no_o help_n to_o infant-baptism_n at_o all_o forasmuch_o as_o the_o allegation_n of_o the_o apostle_n be_v to_o persuade_v the_o people_n to_o repentance_n and_o baptism_n without_o which_o the_o promise_v contribute_v nothing_o at_o all_o to_o justify_v a_o person_n baptism_n 4._o these_o word_n speak_v by_o god_n to_o abraham_n i_o be_o thy_o god_n etc._n etc._n do_v prophetical_o and_o main_o refer_v to_o christ_n and_o gospel-time_n to_o have_v their_o accomplishment_n for_o the_o gather_n in_o of_o the_o seed_n of_o god_n to_o christ_n scatter_v abroad_o among_o the_o jew_n and_o gentile_n especical_o and_o first_o of_o the_o jew_n it_o be_v therefore_o necessary_a that_o the_o argument_n of_o the_o apostle_n shall_v be_v form_v to_o the_o likeness_n of_o the_o authority_n from_o whence_o it_o be_v draw_v but_o still_o the_o interpretation_n suit_v to_o the_o mind_n of_o the_o spirit_n to_o wit_n the_o gather_n of_o a_o spiritual_a not_o a_o carnal_a seed_n to_o abraham_n that_o be_v christ_n accuser_n further_o i_o observe_v that_o the_o promise_n be_v to_o be_v consider_v two_o way_n 1._o as_o it_o be_v invisible_o make_v so_o it_o be_v alone_o to_o the_o elect_a 2._o as_o it_o be_v visible_o make_v so_o it_o be_v with_o visible_a professor_n and_o their_o child_n whoever_o be_v in_o covenant_n in_o
