their_o opinion_n and_o partly_o their_o separation_n about_o it_o my_o humble_a request_n to_o they_o first_o be_v that_o their_o dissent_n from_o other_o godly_a christian_n in_o the_o point_n of_o infant_n baptism_n may_v be_v hold_v and_o manage_v with_o much_o humility_n and_o sobriety_n towards_o they_o that_o differ_v that_o reverence_n which_o be_v due_a to_o the_o wisdom_n godliness_n faithfulness_n and_o zeal_n of_o so_o great_a a_o number_n as_o in_o former_a age_n have_v be_v and_o in_o this_o present_a age_n be_v of_o a_o mind_n different_a from_o they_o in_o this_o point_n call_v for_o it_o the_o sense_n of_o their_o own_o weakness_n and_o that_o they_o be_v no_o more_o infallible_a than_o other_o man_n call_v for_o it_o and_o the_o peace_n and_o undisturbed_a state_n discourse_n or_o any_o other_o of_o like_a nature_n with_o a_o open_a and_o free_a mind_n and_o with_o that_o inclination_n to_o unity_n peace_n and_o concord_n that_o aught_o to_o rule_v in_o the_o heart_n of_o all_o saint_n and_o to_o give_v the_o argument_n and_o consideration_n which_o oppose_v separation_n the_o same_o law_n and_o fair_a play_n in_o their_o judgement_n which_o they_o have_v be_v wont_a to_o allow_v to_o their_o contrary_n and_o that_o they_o will_v make_v as_o much_o if_o not_o much_o more_o conscience_n to_o lay_v out_o and_o engage_v their_o thought_n how_o to_o remove_v objection_n against_o general_a communion_n of_o saint_n as_o to_o make_v they_o certain_o the_o great_a cry_n of_o the_o scripture_n for_o unity_n peace_n concord_n and_o forbearance_n among_o saint_n and_o against_o their_o dissension_n and_o division_n and_o the_o experience_n of_o their_o ill_a effect_n be_v a_o loud_a call_n to_o this_o and_o so_o be_v the_o law_n of_o true_a evangelicall_n brotherly_a love_n and_o the_o principle_n of_o it_o in_o who_o soever_o find_v which_o be_v still_o work_v if_o not_o obstruct_v towards_o a_o kindly_a closure_n with_o all_o that_o have_v the_o like_a precious_a faith_n and_o seed_n of_o god_n remain_v in_o they_o and_o which_o make_v they_o desirous_a and_o glad_a of_o any_o help_n to_o remove_v out_o of_o the_o way_n what_o ever_o keep_v they_o from_o the_o close_a communion_n and_o for_o those_o that_o be_v or_o shall_v be_v convince_v of_o the_o unduenesse_n of_o this_o separation_n and_o yet_o for_o fear_v of_o offend_v the_o weak_a conceal_v their_o judgement_n my_o desire_n and_o advice_n be_v that_o they_o will_v set_v before_o they_o the_o blame_n which_o the_o apostle_n peter_n incur_v by_o dissemble_v his_o judgement_n for_o fear_n of_o offend_v that_o sort_n of_o believer_n which_o be_v of_o the_o circumcision_n gal_n 2.11_o 12_o 13._o beside_o the_o account_n which_o i_o afterward_o give_v of_o my_o own_o practice_n in_o the_o contrary_n my_o prayer_n on_o the_o other_o hand_n to_o the_o godly_a pedobaptist_n both_o minister_n and_o people_n be_v that_o they_o will_v use_v like_o moderation_n and_o tenderness_n towards_o the_o godly_a anabaptist_n and_o not_o for_o their_o different_a opinion_n sake_n in_o point_n of_o baptism_n to_o set_v they_o at_o naught_o and_o represent_v they_o to_o the_o people_n and_o that_o without_o distinction_n as_o such_o monster_n as_o some_o do_v nor_o to_o make_v a_o estimate_n or_o representation_n of_o the_o best_a by_o the_o worst_a there_o be_v near_o as_o much_o difference_n between_o anabaptist_n and_o anabaptist_n as_o there_o be_v between_o pedobaptist_n and_o pedobaptist_n but_o to_o think_v and_o speak_v of_o they_o as_o such_o who_o for_o a_o considerable_a part_n of_o they_o at_o least_o be_v true_o tender_a of_o the_o glory_n of_o the_o lord_n and_o of_o the_o royal_a authority_n of_o his_o holy_a law_n and_o as_o desirous_a to_o approve_v themselves_o with_o all_o good_a conscience_n both_o to_o god_n and_o man_n and_o as_o such_o among_o who_o there_o be_v as_o savoury_a and_o experimental_a christian_n as_o most_o in_o their_o generation_n the_o want_n of_o this_o moderation_n in_o many_o of_o the_o pedobaptist_n i_o believe_v have_v have_v a_o great_a hand_n in_o the_o division_n and_o separation_n of_o our_o time_n partly_o by_o set_v they_o of_o the_o other_o judgement_n at_o a_o further_a distance_n from_o they_o then_o otherwise_o they_o will_v have_v be_v and_o partly_o by_o incline_v many_o who_o have_v think_v they_o wrong_v to_o fall_v in_o with_o they_o and_o off_o from_o the_o other_o suppose_v the_o anabaptist_n shall_v be_v in_o a_o error_n yet_o certain_o their_o opinion_n about_o baptism_n after_o faith_n can_v reasonable_o be_v suppose_v to_o be_v of_o that_o nature_n if_o it_o shall_v be_v a_o error_n but_o that_o it_o may_v well_o consist_v with_o a_o eminent_a degree_n of_o grace_n as_o many_o i_o doubt_v not_o of_o different_a thought_n from_o they_o do_v sufficient_o experience_n and_o with_o what_o heart_n then_o can_v any_o who_o know_v the_o worth_n of_o grace_n and_o how_o to_o value_v person_n by_o it_o make_v such_o to_o be_v a_o gaze_a stock_n to_o the_o people_n for_o a_o suppose_a infirmity_n in_o judgement_n beside_o the_o strong_a probability_n not_o now_o to_o say_v proof_n which_o they_o have_v for_o their_o opinion_n may_v well_o bespeak_v a_o moderate_a and_o sober_a treatment_n from_o such_o as_o dissent_v as_o to_o matter_n of_o fact_n what_o can_v be_v say_v to_o evince_v infant_n baptism_n a_o primitive_a practice_n but_o may_v be_v so_o far_a counter-argued_n as_o to_o leave_v a_o enlighten_v and_o tender_a conscience_n without_o conviction_n in_o the_o case_n and_o as_o to_o the_o reason_n of_o the_o thing_n when_o it_o shall_v be_v argue_v that_o to_o be_v baptize_v be_v to_o be_v bury_v and_o that_o burial_n betoken_v or_o suppose_v the_o person_n bury_v to_o be_v dead_a viz._n unto_o sin_n and_o how_o incompetent_a such_o a_o death_n be_v to_o a_o infant_n state_n and_o how_o prepostercus_fw-la it_o be_v to_o bury_v person_n before_o they_o be_v dead_a be_v it_o not_o very_o possible_a that_o when_o all_o be_v say_v that_o can_v be_v say_v to_o take_v away_o the_o strength_n of_o such_o a_o consideration_n that_o yet_o so_o much_o may_v be_v apprehend_v to_o remain_v by_o many_o a_o wise_a and_o holy_a man_n as_o may_v hold_v his_o conscience_n fast_o and_o therefore_o why_o shall_v such_o a_o opinion_n that_o have_v so_o much_o to_o be_v say_v for_o it_o and_o hard_o to_o be_v answer_v render_v its_o friend_n so_o criminal_a in_o the_o eye_n in_o the_o report_n of_o their_o brethren_n as_o sometime_o it_o do_v or_o if_o some_o that_o be_v of_o that_o opinion_n have_v espouse_v any_o other_o opinion_n of_o worse_a import_n yet_o why_o shall_v this_o be_v charge_v upon_o the_o whole_a tribe_n see_v revel_n 2.24_o &_o 3.4_o in_o a_o word_n if_o the_o godly_a pedobaptist_n and_o anabaptist_n will_v but_o charitable_o consider_v what_o
faith_n and_o the_o reason_n of_o the_o inconfecuence_n be_v take_v from_o the_o difference_n of_o person_n then_o and_o now_o there_o be_v a_o great_a difference_n in_o the_o qualification_n of_o the_o person_n that_o have_v no_o baptism_n and_o so_o no_o church-communion_n then_o and_o many_o of_o the_o person_n that_o have_v no_o baptism_n after_o profession_n of_o faith_n now_o and_o so_o the_o reason_n of_o non-communion_n vary_v according_o those_o in_o the_o primitive_a time_n that_o have_v no_o baptism_n and_o so_o no_o church-communion_n have_v no_o faith_n nor_o make_v confession_n of_o any_o so_o that_o the_o reason_n of_o the_o primitive_a saint_n non-communion_n with_o such_o be_v not_o simple_o their_o want_n of_o baptism_n but_o their_o want_n of_o faith_n and_o the_o same_o non-qualification_n now_o will_v be_v a_o like_a reason_n unto_o we_o of_o non-communion_n but_o where_o person_n have_v faith_n and_o this_o faith_n visible_a in_o their_o profession_n and_o conversation_n and_o have_v also_o the_o doctrine_n of_o baptism_n in_o the_o spiritual_a part_n of_o it_o both_o in_o judgement_n and_o practice_n and_o be_v confident_a they_o practical_o have_v it_o too_o in_o the_o literal_a part_n which_o be_v the_o case_n of_o the_o godly_a pedobaptist_n there_o the_o difference_n be_v exceed_o broad_a and_o large_a between_o they_o and_o those_o unbaptised_a person_n with_o who_o the_o primitive_a saint_n have_v no_o communion_n and_o so_o the_o same_o reason_n of_o non-communion_n will_v not_o suit_n both_o if_o the_o primitive_a saint_n have_v no_o communion_n with_o such_o as_o the_o godly_a pedobaptist_n it_o be_v not_o because_o they_o judge_v such_o unworthy_a their_o communion_n but_o because_o there_o be_v none_o such_o then_o in_o be_v that_o particular_a difference_n between_o saint_n and_o saint_n about_o infant_n baptism_n not_o be_v then_o on_o foot_n but_o if_o there_o have_v i_o shall_v offer_v reason_n presen_o to_o induce_v we_o to_o believe_v that_o communion_n with_o they_o will_v not_o have_v be_v refuse_v by_o the_o best_a of_o saint_n then_o in_o be_v on_o that_o ground_n in_o the_o mean_a time_n let_v it_o be_v consider_v that_o we_o have_v no_o example_n of_o the_o primitive_a saint_n refuse_v communion_n with_o such_o as_o the_o godly_a pedobaptist_n be_v and_o therefore_o by_o their_o example_n can_v be_v oblige_v to_o refuse_v communion_n with_o they_o their_o example_n of_o non-communion_n with_o unbaptised_a unbeliever_n be_v foreign_a and_o irrelative_a to_o our_o case_n and_o question_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v altogether_o impertinent_a in_o its_o allegation_n but_o if_o there_o be_v or_o have_v be_v any_o such_o in_o the_o primitive_a time_n as_o the_o godly_a pedobaptist_n be_v yet_o that_o we_o may_v be_v confident_a that_o the_o best_a of_o saint_n in_o those_o time_n will_v not_o have_v refuse_v communion_n with_o they_o i_o shall_v offer_v these_o reason_n 1._o we_o have_v no_o approve_a example_n of_o their_o refuse_v communion_n with_o any_o acknowledge_v godly_a christian_n whatsoever_o for_o any_o error_n in_o judgement_n or_o error_n in_o practice_n proceed_v mere_o from_o a_o error_n in_o judgement_n and_o therefore_o this_o suppose_a error_n of_o the_o godly_a pedobaptist_n be_v but_o of_o that_o nature_n we_o have_v no_o reason_n to_o think_v that_o they_o will_v have_v find_v hard_a measure_n if_o they_o have_v then_o live_v among_o they_o than_o all_o other_o err_v upon_o like_a term_n do_v and_o here_o let_v it_o be_v observe_v note_v that_o our_o separation_n of_o godly_a from_o godly_a upon_o account_n of_o such_o error_n as_o be_v not_o repugnant_a to_o godliness_n be_v so_o far_o from_o be_v a_o imitation_n of_o the_o example_n of_o the_o primitive_a saint_n as_o that_o we_o have_v the_o example_n of_o the_o primitive_a saint_n point_v blank_a against_o it_o which_o may_v be_v a_o good_a argument_n to_o condemn_v but_o by_o no_o mean_n to_o justify_v our_o separation_n 2._o when_o there_o be_v any_o thing_n stir_v among_o the_o primitive_a saint_n that_o do_v but_o tend_v to_o or_o look_v towards_o a_o separation_n upon_o account_n of_o such_o error_n as_o be_v not_o repugnant_a to_o godliness_n it_o â—id_v not_o pass_v without_o check_n and_o discountenance_v from_o the_o apostle_n as_o be_v visible_a in_o the_o case_n of_o difference_n about_o circumcision_n day_n and_o meat_n of_o which_o more_o afterward_o and_o therefore_o the_o suppose_a error_n of_o the_o pedobaptist_n be_v but_o of_o the_o same_o nature_n that_o be_v consistent_a with_o godliness_n as_o well_o as_o they_o there_o be_v no_o reason_n to_o think_v it_o will_v have_v cast_v they_o out_o of_o communion_n then_o when_o the_o look_n of_o such_o a_o thing_n in_o other_o like_a case_n be_v so_o distasteful_a to_o the_o holy_a apostle_n 3._o when_o the_o apostle_n come_v to_o lay_v down_o and_o ennumerate_v the_o cause_n and_o thing_n for_o which_o communion_n with_o a_o professor_n of_o christianity_n be_v to_o be_v refuse_v there_o be_v none_o of_o they_o of_o a_o low_a nature_n or_o less_o demerit_n than_o such_o as_o do_v exclude_v a_o man_n the_o kingdom_n of_o god_n as_o be_v evident_a by_o compare_v 1_o cor_n 5.11_o with_o chap._n 6.9_o 10._o as_o by_o the_o mere_a recite_v of_o the_o word_n will_v appear_v 1_o cor_n 5.11_o but_o now_o i_o have_v write_v unto_o you_o not_o to_o keep_v company_n if_o any_o man_n that_o be_v call_v a_o brother_n be_v a_o fornicator_n or_o covetous_a or_o a_o idolater_n or_o a_o railer_n or_o a_o drunkard_n or_o a_o extortioner_n with_o such_o a_o one_o no_o not_o to_o eat_v that_o every_o one_o of_o these_o crime_n debar_v a_o man_n of_o that_o nature_n which_o be_v charge_v upon_o the_o pedobaptist_n will_v not_o have_v deprive_v godly_a person_n of_o the_o communion_n of_o saint_n in_o the_o apostle_n day_n which_o be_v a_o thing_n serious_o to_o be_v lay_v to_o heart_n by_o they_o that_o be_v accessary_a to_o the_o keep_n up_o a_o separation_n contrary_a to_o the_o doctrine_n custom_n and_o example_n of_o the_o primitive_a time_n three_o argument_n for_o separation_n run_v thus_o none_o be_v in_o a_o regular_a capacity_n of_o hold_v church_n communion_n with_o a_o particular_a church_n who_o be_v not_o regular_o visible_a member_n of_o the_o universal_a church_n but_o none_o but_o such_o as_o be_v baptize_v after_o faith_n which_o the_o pedobaptist_n be_v not_o be_v regular_o visible_a member_n of_o the_o universal_a church_n therefore_o etc._n etc._n answ_n that_o none_o be_v in_o a_o regular_a capacity_n of_o communion_n in_o a_o particular_a church_n who_o be_v not_o visible_o member_n of_o the_o universal_a church_n i_o ready_o grant_v and_o as_o to_o that_o clause_n which_o speak_v of_o man_n be_v regular_o visible_a member_n of_o the_o universal_a church_n i_o say_v thus_o much_o that_o none_o can_v be_v visible_o member_n of_o the_o universal_a church_n but_o so_o far_o as_o they_o be_v so_o they_o be_v regular_o so_o for_o no_o irregularity_n whatsoever_o as_o such_o can_v contribute_v towards_o the_o visibility_n of_o a_o man_n church-membership_a but_o obscure_a it_o it_o be_v very_o true_a that_o there_o may_v be_v more_o of_o regâ—larnesse_n in_o the_o visibility_n of_o sum_n universal_a church-membership_a then_o in_o other_o and_o so_o proportionable_o more_o of_o visiblenesse_n but_o where_o ever_o there_o be_v this_o visiblenesse_n in_o a_o great_a or_o lesser_a degree_n there_o be_v so_o much_o regularnesse_n of_o that_o visibility_n have_v say_v thus_o much_o by_o way_n of_o concession_n to_o the_o major_a proposition_n and_o that_o much_o for_o the_o explication_n of_o a_o impertinent_a expression_n touch_v the_o regular_a visibility_n of_o universal_a church-membership_a i_o come_v now_o to_o deny_v the_o minor_a proposition_n which_o do_v affirm_v that_o none_o but_o such_o as_o be_v baptize_v after_o faith_n
right_n without_o baptism_n after_o faith_n that_o be_v the_o door_n of_o entrance_n into_o the_o church_n to_o this_o i_o answer_v 1._o that_o though_o its_o true_a that_o baptism_n be_v necessary_a by_o way_n of_o duty_n to_o give_v a_o man_n a_o orderly_a and_o complete_a right_n to_o particular_a church-fellowship_n when_o he_o have_v a_o opportunity_n of_o be_v baptize_v yet_o it_o will_v not_o therefore_o follow_v that_o its_o absolute_o necessary_a by_o way_n of_o mean_n or_o under_o penalty_n without_o which_o such_o fellowship_n and_o communion_n be_v not_o to_o be_v have_v when_o the_o reason_n of_o the_o want_n of_o such_o baptism_n be_v the_o want_n of_o opportunity_n to_o enjoy_v it_o the_o truth_n whereof_o appear_v by_o this_o undeniable_a reason_n baptism_n be_v no_o more_o necessary_a to_o church-communion_n than_o it_o be_v to_o salvation_n for_o how_o can_v the_o mean_n be_v more_o necessary_a to_o the_o subordinate_a than_o it_o be_v to_o the_o principal_a end_n if_o baptism_n be_v necessary_a to_o church-communion_n it_o be_v because_o church-communion_n be_v respective_o necessary_a to_o salvation_n for_o neither_o of_o they_o will_v be_v necessary_a if_o no_o such_o thing_n be_v as_o salvation_n be_v to_o which_o they_o both_o relate_v but_o now_o baptism_n be_v necessary_a to_o salvation_n but_o by_o way_n of_o duty_n when_o opportunity_n occur_v but_o be_v not_o necessary_a by_o way_n of_o mean_n so_o as_o without_o which_o salvation_n be_v not_o to_o be_v have_v when_o opportunity_n of_o do_v one_o duty_n in_o this_o kind_n be_v want_v this_o be_v our_o constant_a protestant_n doctrine_n against_o the_o too_o much_o rigidity_n of_o popish_a necessity_n and_o therefore_o if_o baptism_n be_v necessary_a to_o salvation_n but_o upon_o such_o term_n then_o sure_o it_o can_v be_v necessary_a to_o church-communion_n upon_o high_a or_o more_o strict_a term_n if_o any_o thing_n may_v be_v remit_v in_o the_o strictness_n of_o the_o term_n of_o necessity_n it_o will_v rather_o be_v as_o it_o relate_v to_o its_o less_o principal_a than_o principal_a end_n but_o now_o that_o the_o true_a reason_n why_o the_o godly_a pedobaptist_n be_v not_o baptize_v after_o faith_n be_v the_o want_n of_o a_o moral_a opportunity_n be_v a_o thing_n not_o to_o be_v doubt_v for_o all_o the_o while_o they_o remain_v unconvince_v that_o it_o be_v their_o duty_n or_o so_o much_o as_o lawful_a for_o they_o to_o be_v so_o baptize_v so_o long_o they_o be_v clear_o under_o the_o want_n of_o a_o moral_a opportunity_n of_o receive_v such_o a_o baptism_n for_o they_o can_v no_o more_o lawful_o be_v so_o baptize_v during_o the_o time_n of_o such_o dissatisfaction_n than_o other_o can_v who_o be_v satisfy_v whilst_o they_o want_v the_o opportunity_n of_o health_n water_n or_o a_o meet_a administrator_n it_o be_v as_o much_o the_o israelite_n duty_n to_o be_v circumcise_v before_o their_o admission_n to_o communion_n in_o any_o part_n of_o congregationall_a worship_n the_o time_n prescribe_v for_o circumcision_n consider_v as_o it_o be_v the_o duty_n of_o believer_n to_o be_v baptize_v before_o admission_n to_o church_n communion_n yea_o the_o law_n be_v more_o express_a in_o that_o point_n then_o the_o gospel_n be_v in_o this_o and_o yet_o for_o want_v of_o opportunity_n of_o perform_v the_o one_o the_o other_o be_v enjoy_v without_o it_o for_o a_o certain_a season_n in_o the_o wilderness_n the_o want_n then_o of_o a_o moral_a opportunity_n of_o do_v that_o which_o in_o order_n of_o nature_n shall_v go_v before_o be_v not_o in_o the_o heart_n of_o any_o tender_a christian_a to_o suspend_v they_o the_o exercise_n of_o these_o until_o they_o be_v satisfy_v touch_v the_o other_o and_o i_o query_n by_o what_o perform_v other_o christian_a duty_n before_o they_o be_v baptize_v but_o in_o this_o that_o they_o omit_v baptism_n after_o the_o proper_a season_n of_o it_o and_o it_o do_v not_o follow_v that_o
