difference_n of_o time_n and_o in_o this_o kind_n there_o be_v three_o duty_n to_o be_v observe_v i._o the_o first_o be_v that_o we_o be_v real_a and_o substantial_a in_o all_o our_o performance_n and_o not_o any_o where_n perfunctory_a or_o formal_a when_o we_o have_v to_o deal_v with_o god_n a_o outside_n will_v not_o serve_v the_o turn_n he_o require_v the_o heart_n and_o will_v accept_v of_o no_o service_n which_o be_v not_o sincere_a and_o hearty_a and_o that_o our_o service_n in_o this_o business_n may_v be_v such_o we_o must_v observe_v two_o rule_n 1._o rule_n we_o must_v not_o think_v it_o enough_o to_o do_v the_o outward_a work_n we_o must_v join_v true_a &_o hearty_a affection_n with_o they_o for_o all_o outward_a act_n be_v but_o as_o the_o shell_n or_o the_o rind_n which_o cover_v and_o preserve_v the_o fruit_n from_o violence_n and_o harm_n the_o inward_a affection_n of_o the_o soul_n that_o be_v the_o kernel_n and_o the_o fruit_n of_o devotion_n now_o the_o shell_n and_o rind_n though_o they_o be_v of_o good_a use_n while_o they_o enclose_v the_o fruit_n yet_o be_v they_o vain_a and_o of_o no_o worth_a or_o moment_n when_o they_o be_v separate_v from_o it_o and_o stand_v alone_o by_o themselves_o and_o so_o it_o be_v with_o act_n of_o god_n service_n if_o they_o be_v join_v with_o inward_a affection_n of_o the_o heart_n they_o both_o serve_v to_o express_v a_o godly_a zele_n and_o to_o increase_v it_o but_o if_o they_o be_v disjoin_v from_o hearty_a affection_n they_o serve_v for_o no_o more_o use_n than_o a_o empty_a shell_n and_o the_o bare_a paring_n of_o a_o apple_n that_o be_v for_o nothing_o but_o either_o for_o the_o fire_n or_o the_o dunghill_n from_o hence_o it_o be_v that_o our_o saviour_n condemn_v the_o verbal_a prayer_n of_o the_o heathen_a when_o you_o pray_v say_v he_o use_v not_o vain_a repetition_n as_o the_o heathen_a do_v for_o they_o think_v they_o shall_v be_v hear_v for_o their_o much_o speak_n matt._n 6.7_o be_v our_o fault_n if_o we_o pray_v without_o feeling_n and_o hear_v without_o attend_v or_o if_o we_o turn_v our_o bibles_n and_o repeat_v sermon_n without_o care_n to_o profit_n in_o godliness_n by_o they_o 2._o rule_n in_o duty_n of_o hear_v and_o repeat_v and_o confer_v we_o must_v not_o rest_v in_o the_o present_a work_n or_o the_o transient_a act_n of_o these_o duty_n as_o if_o we_o
