show_v unto_o you_o the_o fruit_n and_o benefit_n christian_n receive_v from_o this_o mother-grace_n and_o that_o the_o apostle_n set_v down_o in_o these_o word_n he_o set_v down_o 1._o the_o mother-grace_n itself_o together_o with_o its_o principal_a benefit_n justification_n or_o reconciliation_n with_o god_n that_o whereas_o we_o be_v afar_o off_o we_o be_v make_v near_o and_o of_o enemy_n make_v friend_n of_o god_n then_o 2._o there_o be_v the_o daughter_n or_o handmaid_n of_o this_o grace_n for_o when_o we_o be_v justify_v by_o faith_n then_o 1._o we_o have_v peace_n with_o god_n that_o peace_n of_o conscience_n which_o pass_v all_o understanding_n then_o 2._o we_o have_v free_a access_n by_o faith_n unto_o the_o throne_n of_o grace_n so_o that_o we_o need_v not_o look_v for_o any_o other_o mediator_n christ_n have_v make_v way_n for_o we_o to_o god_n so_o that_o we_o may_v go_v bold_o to_o the_o throne_n of_o grace_n and_o find_v help_n at_o any_o time_n of_o need_n 3._o there_o follow_v a_o joyful_a hope_n that_o a_o christian_n have_v by_o it_o a_o taste_n of_o heaven_n before_o he_o come_v to_o enjoy_v it_o we_o rejoice_v in_o hope_n say_v the_o apostle_n hope_v be_v as_o firm_a a_o thing_n as_o faith_n faith_n make_v thing_n absent_a as_o present_v hope_n have_v patience_n with_o it_o and_o will_v have_v we_o wait_v we_o shall_v be_v sure_a of_o it_o but_o yet_o we_o must_v wait_v patient_o 4._o not_o only_o rejoice_v in_o hope_n but_o even_o in_o that_o which_o spoil_v a_o natural_a man_n joy_n as_o in_o cross_n trouble_n affliction_n for_o even_o these_o be_v make_v the_o matter_n of_o this_o man_n joy_n not_o delectable_a object_n only_o not_o in_o time_n to_o come_v after_o affliction_n but_o in_o affliction_n so_o as_o that_o which_o spoil_v the_o joy_n of_o a_o natural_a man_n be_v fuel_n to_o kindle_v this_o man_n joy_n now_o concern_v justification_n by_o faith_n though_o it_o be_v a_o ordinary_a point_n yet_o there_o be_v nothing_o more_o need_v explication_n than_o to_o know_v how_o a_o man_n shall_v be_v justify_v by_o faith_n it_o be_v easy_o speak_v hardly_o explicate_v therefore_o in_o this_o mother-grace_n i_o shall_v show_v you_o 1._o what_o faith_n be_v that_o do_v justify_v and_o 2._o what_o this_o justification_n be_v for_o it_o be_v not_o so_o easy_a a_o matter_n neither_o 1._o concern_v the_o nature_n of_o faith_n i_o have_v speak_v sufficient_o already_o wherein_o it_o consist_v but_o yet_o notwithstanding_o there_o be_v a_o certain_a thing_n as_o like_v this_o faith_n as_o may_v be_v and_o yet_o come_v short_a of_o it_o many_o there_o be_v who_o be_v like_o the_o foolish_a virgin_n that_o think_v they_o be_v well_o enough_o and_o think_v they_o shall_v come_v time_n enough_o so_o many_o think_v very_o that_o they_o have_v faith_n yea_o and_o perchance_o go_v with_o such_o a_o persuasion_n to_o their_o very_a grave_n and_o think_v they_o have_v grace_n and_o that_o they_o labour_v after_o christ_n and_o lie_v hold_v on_o he_o and_o be_v free_a from_o worldly_a pollution_n so_o as_o that_o they_o have_v a_o
do_v it_o for_o they_o i.e._n though_o i_o have_v do_v it_o and_o intend_v to_o do_v it_o yet_o will_v i_o do_v it_o by_o the_o mean_n of_o prayer_n howsoever_o that_o god_n have_v promise_v eliah_n that_o rain_n shall_v come_v upon_o the_o face_n of_o the_o earth_n yet_o he_o go_v upon_o the_o mount_n and_o see_v no_o show_n of_o a_o cloud_n the_o text_n say_v not_o what_o he_o do_v but_o he_o put_v his_o head_n between_o his_o knee_n saint_n james_n say_v he_o pray_v and_o â—he_v open_v heaven_n and_o bring_v down_o rain_n it_o be_v a_o humble_a secret_a gesture_n a_o man_n may_v be_v more_o free_a in_o private_a than_o in_o public_a he_o pray_v and_o the_o heaven_n open_v god_n have_v promise_v it_o and_o will_v do_v it_o but_o yet_o he_o will_v be_v seek_v to_o so_o we_o see_v the_o mediate_a cause_n be_v prayer_n so_o though_o the_o lord_n will_v do_v this_o yet_o for_o all_o this_o he_o will_v be_v inquire_v of_o it_o be_v not_o with_o god_n as_o with_o man_n man_n who_o have_v promise_v will_v be_v loath_a to_o be_v sue_v to_o not_o to_o break_v their_o promise_n they_o account_v that_o a_o dishonour_n to_o they_o but_o it_o be_v not_o so_o with_o god_n god_n have_v promise_v yet_o thou_o shall_v have_v no_o benefit_n of_o it_o until_o thou_o sue_v to_o he_o for_o it_o therefore_o thou_o must_v go_v to_o god_n and_o say_v lord_n fulfil_v thy_o promise_n to_o thy_o servant_n wherein_o thou_o have_v cause_v i_o to_o trust_v god_n love_v to_o have_v his_o bond_n sue_v out_o lord_n make_v good_a this_o word_n perform_v that_o good_a word_n that_o thou_o have_v speak_v god_n will_v have_v his_o bond_n thus_o sue_v out_o and_o as_o thy_o faith_n repentance_n prayer_n be_v renew_v so_o be_v thy_o pardon_n renew_v when_o god_n will_v make_v a_o man_n possess_v the_o sin_n of_o his_o youth_n when_o a_o man_n be_v careless_a this_o way_n it_o please_v god_n to_o awaken_v he_o thou_o write_v bitter_a thing_n against_o i_o and_o make_v i_o to_o possess_v the_o iniquity_n of_o my_o youth_n job_n 13.26_o when_o a_o man_n forget_v the_o iniquity_n of_o his_o youth_n and_o renew_v not_o his_o repentance_n and_o have_v not_o new_a act_n of_o his_o old_a evidence_n be_v obliterated_a when_o a_o man_n have_v a_o pardon_n and_o it_o be_v almost_o obliterated_a the_o letter_n almost_o wear_v out_o that_o they_o can_v be_v read_v he_o will_v be_v glad_a to_o have_v it_o renew_v to_o have_v a_o new_a exemplification_n every_o sin_n it_o put_v a_o great_a blur_v upon_o thy_o old_a evidence_n that_o thou_o can_v not_o read_v they_o they_o may_v be_v firm_a in_o heaven_n and_o yet_o perhaps_o be_v so_o blur_v that_o thou_o can_v not_o read_v they_o and_o therefore_o if_o thou_o will_v get_v they_o clear_v again_o thou_o must_v go_v to_o god_n by_o prayer_n and_o renew_v they_o again_o so_o that_o whether_o our_o evidence_n be_v blur_v or_o whether_o it_o be_v that_o god_n will_v make_v we_o possess_v the_o iniquity_n of_o our_o youth_n it_o be_v necessary_a to_o pray_v for_o the_o forgiveness_n of_o those_o sin_n which_o have_v be_v before_o forgive_v but_o now_o you_o will_v say_v when_o i_o have_v sin_v afterward_o how_o come_v i_o then_o to_o be_v justify_v then_o a_o man_n will_v think_v repentance_n only_o do_v it_o and_o without_o repentance_n a_o man_n can_v be_v justify_v but_o you_o must_v understand_v repentance_n be_v not_o a_o instrument_n at_o all_o faith_n only_o be_v the_o instrument_n faith_n justify_v i_o from_o sin_n hereafter_o as_o well_o as_o before_o the_o case_n be_v this_o faith_n bring_v lifâ—_n the_o righteous_a shall_v live_v by_o his_o faith_n as_o the_o prophet_n habakkuk_n speak_v 2.4_o what_o do_v then_o new_a sin_n do_v there_o be_v two_o sort_n of_o sin_n one_o of_o ordinary_a incursion_n which_o can_v be_v avoid_v these_o break_v no_o friendship_n betwixt_o god_n and_o we_o these_o only_o weaken_v our_o faith_n and_o make_v we_o worse_o at_o ease_n but_o there_o as_o a_o man_n be_v in_o this_o case_n he_o can_v exercise_v the_o act_n of_o faith_n we_o must_v know_v faith_n justify_v not_o as_o a_o habit_n but_o as_o a_o act_n apply_v christ_n to_o the_o comfort_n of_o the_o soul._n now_o a_o waste_a sin_n it_o stop_v the_o passage_n of_o faith_n it_o can_v act_v till_o it_o be_v open_v by_o repentance_n physician_n give_v instance_n for_o it_o those_o that_o have_v apoplexy_n epilepsy_n and_o the_o fall_v sickness_n be_v think_v to_o be_v dead_a for_o the_o time_n as_o it_o be_v with_o eutichus_n yet_o say_v saint_n paul_n his_o spirit_n be_v in_o he_o act._n 20.13_o every_o one_o think_v he_o dead_a yet_o his_o spirit_n be_v in_o he_o however_o in_o regard_n of_o the_o operation_n of_o his_o sense_n it_o do_v appear_v he_o be_v dead_a so_o if_o thou_o be_v a_o careless_a man_n and_o look_v not_o to_o thy_o watch_n and_o to_o thy_o guard_n but_o be_v overtake_v in_o some_o gross_a and_o grievous_a sin_n thou_o be_v take_v dead_a as_o in_o epilepsy_n the_o nerve_n be_v hinder_v by_o obstruction_n so_o sin_n obstruct_v the_o nerve_n of_o the_o soul_n that_o there_o can_v be_v that_o life_n and_o work_n till_o these_o sin_n be_v remove_v now_o what_o be_v repentance_n why_o it_o clear_v the_o passage_n that_o though_o faith_n can_v 〈◊〉_d before_o yet_o now_o it_o give_v he_o disposition_n unto_o it_o as_o a_o man_n in_o a_o 〈◊〉_d can_v do_v the_o act_n of_o a_o live_a man_n till_o he_o be_v refresh_v again_o so_o 〈◊〉_d its_o repentance_n which_o clear_v the_o spirit_n and_o make_v the_o life_n of_o faith_n pass_v throughout_o now_o when_o repentance_n clear_v the_o passage_n than_o faith_n act_n and_o now_o there_o be_v a_o new_a act_n of_o faith_n faith_n justify_v i_o from_o my_o new_a sin_n faith_n at_o first_o and_o at_o last_o be_v that_o whereby_o i_o be_o justify_v from_o my_o sin_n which_o i_o commit_v afterward_o but_o this_o forgiveness_n of_o sin_n what_o do_v it_o free_v we_o from_o in_o sin_n we_o must_v consider_v two_o thing_n the_o fault_n and_o the_o punishment_n now_o consider_v sin_n as_o it_o be_v in_o itself_o and_o as_o it_o respect_v the_o sinner_n as_o act_v by_o he_o be_v guilt_n the_o sin_n be_v not_o guilt_n but_o the_o guilt_n the_o sinner_n for_o instance_n a_o man_n that_o have_v tell_v a_o lie_n or_o swear_v a_o oath_n the_o act_n be_v past_a but_o a_o thing_n remain_v which_o we_o call_v the_o guilt_n at_o if_o a_o man_n commit_v murder_n or_o adultery_n the_o act_n be_v past_a but_o yet_o if_o he_o sleep_v or_o walk_v or_o wake_v the_o guilt_n follow_v he_o if_o he_o live_v a_o hundred_o year_n he_o be_v a_o murderer_n still_o and_o a_o adulterer_n still_o the_o guilt_n follow_v he_o and_o nothing_o can_v take_v away_o the_o murder_n or_o adultery_n from_o the_o soul_n but_o the_o blood_n of_o christ_n apply_v by_o faith_n first_o god_n take_v away_o the_o punishment_n there_o be_v now_o say_v the_o apostle_n no_o condemnation_n to_o they_o that_o be_v in_o christ_n jesus_n who_o walk_v not_o after_o the_o flesh_n but_o after_o the_o spirit_n rom._n 8.1_o what_o nothing_o in_o he_o worthy_a condemnation_n god_n know_v we_o be_v worthy_a of_o a_o thousand_o condemnation_n there_o be_v two_o judge_n there_o be_v a_o double_a guilt_n when_o a_o man_n be_v bring_v to_o the_o bar_n first_o the_o jury_n judge_v the_o fact_n and_o then_o the_o judge_n that_o sit_v on_o the_o bench_n he_o judge_v the_o punishment_n one_o say_v guilty_a or_o not_o guilty_a the_o other_o say_v guilty_a than_o he_o judge_v he_o now_o when_o we_o
