faint_a and_o dissemble_a petition_n will_v return_v empty_a into_o the_o bosom_n of_o he_o that_o send_v it_o up_o curse_a 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d that_o do_v the_o 10_o jer._n 48._o 10_o work_n of_o the_o lord_n negligent_o say_v the_o prophet_n 〈◊〉_d but_o say_v david_n a_o break_a and_o 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d the_o lord_n will_v not_o despise_v david_n never_o send_v up_o his_o petition_n but_o with_o the_o in_o stead_n of_o 〈◊〉_d blessing_n we_o may_v learn_v precept_n and_o draw_v many_o excellent_a example_n from_o the_o life_n of_o the_o heathen_a philosopher_n and_o writer_n as_o also_o we_o may_v learn_v a_o zeal_n in_o our_o petition_n even_o of_o those_o wooden_a priest_n 1_o king_n 18_o of_o who_o it_o be_v write_v that_o they_o call_v upon_o the_o name_n of_o baal_n from_o morning_n to_o noon_n and_o when_o they_o have_v no_o answer_n they_o cry_v aloud_o nay_o cut_v themselves_o with_o knife_n till_o the_o blood_n flow_v so_o they_o pray_v not_o only_o in_o tear_n but_o in_o blood_n and_o then_o shall_v not_o we_o be_v the_o child_n of_o light_n be_v as_o servant_n and_o zealous_a in_o our_o petition_n to_o god_n the_o agony_n &_o zeal_n of_o the_o sun_n of_o righteousness_n be_v stranger_n ignorant_a of_o either_o purpose_n the_o lip_n baby_v without_o the_o heart_n but_o no_o compunction_n within_o honour_v god_n with_o our_o mouth_n but_o our_o spirit_n of_o true_a devotion_n be_v far_o from_o he_o our_o heart_n not_o bleed_v with_o the_o drop_n of_o true_a sincerity_n which_o will_v be_v hear_v and_o pity_v our_o altar_n without_o fire_n our_o petition_n without_o heat_n and_o all_o that_o we_o do_v without_o zeal_n if_o we_o mean_v that_o our_o petition_n shall_v be_v hear_v and_o accept_v at_o the_o hand_n of_o god_n we_o must_v frame_v our_o supplication_n with_o a_o ardent_a &_o true_a affectionate_a zeal_n
at_o such_o time_n as_o thou_o mind_v to_o pray_v thou_o present_o read_v â—uer_o all_o these_o chief_a point_n that_o be_v to_o be_v think_v upon_o then_o pause_v in_o contemplation_n upon_o that_o wherein_o thou_o take_v most_o pleasure_v in_o thy_o meditation_n direct_v thy_o thought_n to_o some_o virtuous_a action_n serious_o consider_v with_o thyself_o how_o diligent_o christ_n exercise_v
