the_o mother-tongue_n of_o each_o nation_n be_v a_o necessary_a help_n to_o this_o end_n &_o the_o knowledge_n of_o grammar_n &_o tongue_n be_v a_o necessary_a help_n to_o such_o a_o translation_n and_o so_o if_o god_n command_v the_o people_n to_o join_v together_o as_o well_o in_o voice_n as_o in_o heart_n to_o sing_v psalm_n and_o to_o sing_v they_o with_o understanding_n see_v psalm_n be_v a_o kind_n of_o holy_a poetry_n even_o as_o grammar_n will_v be_v a_o necessary_a help_n to_o translate_v the_o psalm_n into_o english_a so_o poetry_n will_v be_v requisite_a to_o translate_v the_o english_a into_o verse_n and_o such_o kind_n of_o help_n though_o they_o be_v not_o express_o command_v by_o god_n yet_o we_o look_v at_o they_o as_o warrant_v by_o necessary_a consequence_n from_o the_o word_n because_o god_n who_o command_v thr_fw-mi duty_n of_o read_v the_o scripture_n and_o sing_v of_o psalm_n and_o both_o to_o be_v do_v with_o understanding_n he_o do_v imply_v a_o necessary_a warrant_n of_o such_o mean_n as_o do_v natural_o and_o necessary_o lead_v to_o those_o end_n and_o without_o which_o those_o end_n without_o a_o miracle_n can_v be_v otain_v we_o speak_v therefore_o of_o such_o mean_n and_o help_v of_o worship_n forbid_v in_o this_o commandment_n not_o which_o do_v natural_o and_o necessary_o help_v forward_o the_o same_o though_o remote_o but_o of_o such_o arbitrary_a help_n as_o be_v voluntary_o take_v up_o by_o the_o wisdom_n and_o will_n of_o man_n for_o spiritual_a end_n as_o gideon_n ephod_n and_o pharisaical_a wash_n and_o superad_v to_o those_o mean_n and_o help_v of_o worship_n which_o god_n have_v sufficient_o yea_o and_o abundant_o supply_v his_o church_n and_o people_n withal_o by_o his_o word_n and_o spirit_n for_o all_o spiritual_a duty_n nevertheless_o this_o distinction_n of_o voluntary_a and_o necessary_a help_n may_v not_o be_v stretch_v so_o far_o as_o to_o justify_v devise_v and_o set_v form_n of_o prayer_n to_o supply_v the_o defect_n of_o sinful_o ignorant_a or_o careless_o bashful_a people_n as_o can_v pray_v especial_o before_o company_n without_o a_o book_n for_o first_o god_n will_v not_o have_v such_o person_n so_o sinful_o ignorant_a and_o bashful_a to_o be_v call_v forth_o into_o public_a ministry_n the_o lame_a and_o the_o blind_a shall_v not_o come_v into_o zion_n into_o david_n house_n of_o god_n providence_n in_o vain_a but_o in_o the_o latter_a case_n in_o set_v it_o a_o part_n to_o be_v a_o ordinary_a help_n to_o he_o in_o such_o meditation_n or_o enjoin_v the_o same_o to_o other_o he_o in_o so_o do_v make_v it_o to_o he_o and_o they_o a_o image_n it_o not_o be_v institute_v or_o sanctify_v by_o god_n but_o devise_v and_o set_v apart_o by_o man_n for_o such_o a_o and_o have_v use_v some_o argument_n that_o grasp_n at_o more_o than_o they_o can_v hold_v the_o state_n of_o the_o question_n must_v not_o be_v draw_v to_o the_o argument_n but_o the_o argument_n to_o the_o state_n of_o the_o question_n it_o be_v true_a some_o have_v doubt_v and_o some_o have_v deny_v the_o use_n of_o the_o lord_n prayer_n as_o it_o be_v call_v for_o a_o prayer_n but_o they_o will_v never_o have_v deny_v it_o or_o doubt_v of_o it_o if_o they_o have_v think_v it_o have_v be_v prescribe_v by_o christ_n for_o a_o prayer_n but_o howsoever_o not_o to_o spend_v word_n and_o the_o skill_n of_o every_o good_a minister_n nor_o be_v it_o require_v that_o it_o shall_v for_o see_v the_o holy_a ghost_n have_v already_o dictate_v and_o compose_v to_o our_o hand_n divers_a form_n of_o psalm_n for_o all_o occasion_n it_o will_v be_v superfluous_a for_o minister_n to_o take_v up_o their_o meditation_n and_o study_n about_o the_o invent_v other_o form_n though_o they_o have_v gift_n fit_a for_o it_o and_o therefore_o if_o such_o as_o have_v the_o skill_n to_o pen_v psalm_n do_v nevertheless_o sing_v the_o form_n of_o psalm_n set_v and_o compose_v by_o david_n and_o other_o prophet_n as_o they_o can_v be_v say_v therein_o to_o make_v use_n of_o the_o invention_n of_o man_n but_o of_o god_n institution_n so_o neither_o can_v they_o be_v say_v to_o sin_n upon_o the_o they_o be_v indeed_o prepare_v and_o ordain_v according_a to_o the_o light_n of_o nature_n by_o god_n and_o so_o not_o fall_v under_o the_o general_a negative_a precept_n which_o forbid_v all_o humane_a invention_n and_o injunction_n in_o the_o worship_n of_o god_n disc_n now_o whether_o the_o pretend_a necessity_n of_o a_o set_a form_n shall_v exempt_v from_o the_o general_a negative_a and_o say_v amen_o to_o it_o and_o thus_o far_o may_v find_v it_o a_o lawful_a help_n to_o he_o but_o if_o you_o set_v a_o part_n such_o a_o prayer_n to_o support_v he_o as_o a_o crutch_n in_o his_o prayer_n as_o without_o which_o he_o can_v walk_v straight_o and_o upright_o in_o that_o duty_n or_o if_o he_o that_o pen_v that_o prayer_n or_o other_o that_o have_v read_v it_o do_v enjoin_v it_o of_o his_o own_o spirit_n do_v wrap_v the_o people_n into_o the_o fellowship_n of_o the_o same_o sin_n de_fw-fr secretis_fw-la non_fw-la judicat_fw-la ecclesia_fw-la nor_o be_v it_o defile_v by_o the_o toleration_n of_o secret_a sin_n in_o other_o but_o if_o the_o people_n be_v convince_v that_o the_o read_n of_o prayer_n upon_o a_o book_n prescribe_v to_o they_o by_o man_n be_v a_o sin_n outward_a occasion_n of_o such_o sin_n as_o much_o as_o in_o he_o lie_v from_o himself_o and_o other_o so_o no_o man_n can_v be_v free_v from_o the_o guilt_n of_o such_o coldness_n as_o the_o minister_n and_o the_o people_n do_v contract_n by_o the_o customary_a use_n of_o such_o devise_a prescript_n form_n of_o prayer_n if_o he_o do_v not_o so_o much_o as_o in_o he_o lie_v remove_v such_o
