use_v for_o this_o first_o i_o be_v not_o willing_a to_o have_v any_o thing_n think_v of_o this_o lord_n which_o be_v not_o true_a and_o if_o it_o be_v altogether_o false_a as_o his_o lordship_n say_v it_o be_v that_o he_o will_v not_o join_v in_o prayer_n with_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o lord_n in_o parliament_n but_o refuse_v such_o a_o communion_n i_o will_v fain_o know_v why_o his_o lordship_n do_v not_o join_v in_o prayer_n with_o they_o for_o most_o undoubted_o he_o may_v if_o he_o will_n and_o since_o it_o be_v most_o true_a that_o he_o have_v not_o come_v to_o prayer_n in_o the_o house_n with_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o lord_n not_o so_o much_o as_o once_o either_o in_o the_o last_o parliament_n or_o this_o i_o think_v it_o may_v reasonable_o be_v conclude_v without_o any_o falsehood_n that_o his_o lordship_n will_v not_o join_v no_o not_o in_o such_o a_o communion_n with_o they_o where_o it_o be_v to_o be_v observe_v he_o say_v he_o refuse_v not_o such_o a_o communion_n with_o they_o he_o refuse_v not_o yet_o he_o will_v not_o join_v and_o he_o refuse_v not_o such_o a_o communion_n a_o communion_n i_o have_v cause_n to_o doubt_v he_o do_v refuse_v but_o not_o such_o a_o communion_n as_o go_v no_o far_a than_o prayer_n yet_o to_o these_o he_o come_v not_o at_o the_o sacrament_n i_o believe_v he_o will_v be_v more_o scrupulous_a of_o who_o or_o with_o who_o he_o receive_v that_o indeed_o his_o lordship_n add_v that_o he_o will_v most_o willing_o join_v in_o prayer_n with_o their_o lordship_n and_o though_o this_o be_v most_o strange_a that_o he_o shall_v set_a form_n of_o prayer_n and_o he_o tell_v you_o that_o he_o think_v some_o set_a form_n by_o some_o man_n in_o some_o occasion_n may_v be_v lawful_o use_v sure_o the_o church_n of_o england_n be_v much_o behold_v to_o this_o lord_n very_o much_o and_o the_o state_n too_o for_o the_o set_a form_n of_o prayer_n which_o she_o enjoin_v be_v compile_v by_o some_o of_o those_o who_o suffer_v no_o less_o than_o martyrdom_n for_o the_o reformation_n of_o religion_n the_o same_o form_n of_o prayer_n be_v establish_v by_o act_n of_o parliament_n and_o yet_o as_o if_o church_n and_o state_n be_v all_o at_o a_o loss_n this_o noble_a lord_n who_o confess_v some_o set_a form_n lawful_a condemn_v this_o form_n by_o his_o action_n at_o least_o in_o continual_a and_o profess_a abstain_v from_o it_o some_o form_n but_o not_o this_o by_o some_o man_n but_o not_o these_o in_o some_o case_n but_o not_o in_o god_n public_a service_n in_o the_o church_n may_v be_v lawful_o use_v and_o yet_o for_o all_o these_o petty_a sum_n of_o restraint_n i_o know_v his_o lordship_n part_n so_o great_a that_o i_o dare_v not_o say_v as_o he_o say_v of_o i_o that_o his_o lordship_n be_v of_o narrow_a comprehension_n but_o his_o lordship_n will_v now_o tell_v we_o what_o that_o be_v in_o which_o he_o be_v not_o satisfy_v but_o this_o be_v that_o which_o i_o be_o not_o satisfy_v in_o that_o a_o certain_a number_n of_o man_n shall_v usurp_v a_o authority_n unto_o themselves_o to_o frame_v certain_a prayer_n and_o form_n of_o divine_a service_n and_o when_o that_o be_v do_v under_o the_o name_n of_o the_o church_n to_o enjoin_v they_o upon_o all_o person_n in_o all_o time_n and_o upon_o all_o occasion_n to_o be_v use_v and_o no_o other_o and_o upon_o this_o ground_n which_o make_v it_o the_o worse_a because_o these_o come_v from_o the_o public_a spirit_n of_o the_o church_n when_o the_o bishop_n or_o his_o chaplain_n shall_v frame_v they_o and_o other_o proceed_v from_o the_o themselves_o herein_o for_o in_o all_o age_n of_o the_o church_n from_o christ_n downward_o all_o set_a form_n of_o prayer_n use_v in_o any_o church_n have_v be_v either_o make_v by_o a_o certain_a number_n of_o man_n or_o approve_v by_o they_o when_o some_o eminent_a servant_n of_o god_n have_v compose_v they_o first_o and_o then_o tender_v they_o to_o the_o judgement_n of_o the_o church_n and_o it_o be_v very_o necessary_a that_o it_o shall_v be_v so_o nor_o will_v the_o church_n of_o old_a admit_v any_o prayer_n in_o the_o public_a 23._o service_n and_o worship_n of_o god_n but_o such_o as_o be_v so_o make_v and_o so_o approve_v lest_o through_o ignorance_n or_o want_v of_o care_n and_o circumspection_n something_o may_v slip_v in_o that_o be_v contrary_a to_o the_o faith_n if_o any_o lay_v religious_a man_n of_o large_a comprehension_n than_o themselves_o will_v offer_v in_o private_a any_o help_n to_o they_o they_o will_v lend_v a_o open_a ear_n to_o it_o and_o after_o with_o a_o prudent_a consideration_n do_v what_o be_v fit_a and_o as_o this_o lord_n be_v not_o satisfy_v that_o a_o certain_a number_n of_o man_n shall_v make_v these_o set_a form_n so_o much_o less_o be_v he_o satisfy_v that_o when_o this_o be_v do_v they_o shall_v under_o the_o name_n of_o the_o church_n enjoin_v they_o upon_o all_o person_n in_o all_o time_n and_o upon_o all_o occasion_n a_o set_a form_n of_o prayer_n the_o worse_o because_o it_o come_v from_o the_o public_a spirit_n of_o the_o church_n and_o therefore_o i_o will_v take_v his_o word_n in_o another_o sense_n though_o they_o be_v in_o my_o judgement_n very_o obscure_o set_v down_o and_o perhaps_o that_o be_v his_o lordship_n meaning_n that_o it_o make_v the_o matter_n the_o worse_o because_o these_o form_n of_o
join_v with_o he_o therein_o in_o itself_o though_o perform_v in_o a_o negligent_a and_o so_o in_o a_o sinful_a manner_n by_o the_o minister_n but_o if_o that_o manner_n be_v enjoin_v the_o service_n itself_o be_v to_o be_v refuse_v this_o be_v my_o lord_n first_o instance_n from_o the_o service_n under_o the_o law_n and_o i_o must_v needs_o say_v he_o have_v make_v it_o clear_v what_o he_o will_v have_v but_o then_o he_o must_v give_v i_o leave_v to_o say_v too_o that_o this_o instance_n differ_v so_o main_o from_o the_o thing_n in_o question_n that_o it_o help_v my_o lord_n and_o his_o cause_n in_o nothing_o perhaps_o it_o make_v it_o worse_o than_o it_o be_v the_o difference_n be_v god_n in_o the_o law_n do_v not_o only_o prescribe_v all_o the_o sacrifice_n and_o offering_n which_o he_o will_v have_v and_o for_o what_o but_o also_o when_o and_o how_o he_o will_v have_v they_o and_o the_o poor_a man_n which_o have_v not_o ability_n to_o bring_v the_o great_a sacrifice_n may_v by_o the_o express_a letter_n of_o the_o law_n bring_v turtle_n or_o pigeon_n levit._fw-la 5._o but_o if_o a_o rich_a 7._o man_n have_v bring_v they_o his_o service_n will_v have_v be_v reject_v and_o but_o in_o the_o gospel_n though_o christ_n settle_v his_o doctrine_n and_o sacrament_n yet_o when_o and_o how_o with_o other_o ceremonial_a thing_n be_v leave_v at_o large_a to_o the_o order_v of_o the_o apostle_n and_o the_o church_n after_o they_o always_o provide_v for_o 〈◊〉_d and_o order_n and_o this_o liberty_n be_v leave_v as_o much_o if_o not_o more_o in_o preach_v and_o public_a prayer_n than_o in_o the_o sacrament_n and_o therefore_o my_o lord_n instance_n in_o this_o way_n will_v not_o follow_v from_o the_o law_n to_o the_o gospel_n to_o give_v instance_n in_o his_o own_o word_n in_o the_o law_n the_o poor_a man_n which_o have_v nor_o bullock_n nor_o lamb_n may_v by_o the_o express_a warrant_n of_o the_o law_n bring_v turtle_n or_o pigeon_n but_o they_o be_v to_o be_v his_o own_o which_o he_o buy_v and_o the_o priest_n be_v to_o make_v his_o atonement_n according_o but_o in_o the_o gospel_n man_n do_v not_o bring_v to_o the_o priest_n or_o minister_n their_o own_o doctrine_n or_o their_o prayer_n but_o he_o offer_v in_o public_a the_o sermon_n to_o they_o and_o the_o prayer_n for_o they_o so_o here_o the_o instance_n come_v not_o home_n neither_o as_o for_o my_o lord_n aggravation_n how_o much_o more_o will_v the_o service_n have_v be_v abomination_n if_o man_n shall_v have_v take_v authority_n to_o themselves_o and_o have_v enjoin_v all_o to_o bring_v nothing_o but_o turtle_n or_o pigeon_n indeed_o it_o will_v have_v be_v full_a of_o abomination_n because_o in_o this_o injunction_n they_o will_v have_v go_v quite_o contrary_a to_o god_n own_o command_n and_o let_v my_o lord_n show_v in_o the_o gospel_n any_o precept_n that_o command_v man_n to_o use_v extemporary_a or_o conceive_a prayer_n in_o the_o public_a service_n or_o worship_n of_o god_n or_o that_o forbid_v the_o use_n of_o a_o set_a form_n of_o prayer_n and_o then_o i_o will_v grant_v the_o church_n injunction_n of_o such_o form_n to_o be_v in_o the_o high_a degree_n unlawful_a but_o these_o can_v be_v show_v beside_o there_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o pride_n in_o this_o instance_n for_o my_o lord_n all_o along_o the_o instance_n make_v the_o set_a form_n of_o the_o church_n turtle_n and_o pigeon_n the_o poor_a man_n sacrifice_n and_o the_o conceive_a prayer_n of_o his_o party_n to_o be_v the_o rich_a and_o able_a man_n sacrifice_n the_o ram_n and_o the_o bullock_n the_o calf_n i_o doubt_v it_o be_v so_o a_o very_a little_a before_o his_o lordship_n tell_v we_o of_o a_o negligence_n in_o those_o his_o man_n of_o gift_n which_o may_v offer_v better_o if_o they_o will_n as_o if_o it_o be_v a_o most_o easy_a thing_n for_o those_o man_n to_o offer_v up_o far_o better_a prayer_n to_o god_n than_o the_o set_a liturgy_n of_o the_o church_n whereas_o my_o lord_n must_v give_v i_o leave_v to_o doubt_v that_o even_o of_o the_o best_a of_o they_o and_o so_o again_o a_o little_a after_o his_o lordship_n tell_v we_o that_o god_n will_v be_v worship_v with_o the_o fat_a and_o the_o best_a of_o the_o inward_o which_o he_o interpret_v with_o the_o best_a of_o man_n gift_n and_o ability_n and_o of_o this_o there_o be_v no_o doubt_n nor_o do_v the_o enjon_n of_o a_o set_a form_n of_o public_a prayer_n hinder_v any_o man_n from_o worship_v god_n with_o the_o best_a gift_n and_o ability_n which_o he_o have_v and_o who_o shall_v be_v serve_v with_o the_o best_a if_o not_o he_o that_o give_v they_o all_o but_o here_o be_v the_o pride_n of_o the_o instance_n again_o their_o conceive_a tedious_a and_o ofttimes_o senseless_a prayer_n must_v be_v the_o fat_a and_o the_o inward_o with_o which_o god_n be_v please_v and_o the_o set_a form_n of_o the_o church_n lean_a carrion_n and_o not_o fit_a for_o the_o altar_n o_o my_o lord_n that_o you_o will_v in_o time_n lay_v your_o hand_n on_o your_o heart_n and_o consider_v from_o what_o and_o into_o what_o you_o be_v fall_v my_o lord_n conclude_v this_o instance_n with_o this_o that_o if_o it_o be_v leave_v free_a to_o he_o that_o officiate_n it_o be_v his_o personal_a sin_n if_o he_o be_v negligent_a but_o it_o may_v be_v lawful_a for_o another_o that_o join_v with_o he_o in_o that_o service_n but_o if_o that_o manner_n be_v enjoin_v the_o service_n itself_o be_v to_o be_v refuse_v and_o after_o this_o great_a pride_n in_o or_o of_o this_o opinion_n my_o lord_n end_v with_o one_o a_o fallacy_n for_o the_o question_n be_v not_o whether_o a_o negligent_a set_a form_n of_o prayer_n or_o a_o good_a form_n of_o set_a prayer_n negligent_o and_o without_o devotion_n offer_v up_o to_o god_n as_o too_o often_o they_o be_v god_n help_v we_o be_v better_o than_o other_o prayer_n careful_o compose_v and_o devout_o utter_v but_o simple_o whether_o a_o good_a set_a form_n of_o prayer_n such_o as_o the_o liturgy_n of_o england_n be_v be_v make_v so_o evil_a only_o by_o the_o enjoin_v of_o it_o as_o that_o therefore_o the_o service_n itself_o ought_v to_o be_v refuse_v now_o this_o my_o lord_n may_v say_v as_o bold_o as_o he_o will_v but_o neither_o he_o nor_o any_o man_n else_o shall_v ever_o be_v able_a to_o prove_v it_o and_o in_o this_o very_a close_a i_o can_v but_o up_o and_o leave_v behind_o he_o i_o well_o hope_v to_o have_v find_v that_o my_o lord_n have_v entertain_v more_o moderate_a thought_n of_o thing_n appertain_v unto_o religion_n but_o since_o he_o
