church_n have_v for_o absolve_a offender_n from_o their_o guilt_n so_o far_o as_o those_o sacrament_n or_o the_o priest_n administration_n of_o they_o be_v necessary_a to_o salvation_n which_o no_o doubt_n they_o general_o be_v so_o far_o also_o his_o absolution_n must_v be_v look_v upon_o as_o such_o but_o so_o to_o consider_v absolution_n be_v to_o make_v it_o the_o same_o with_o baptism_n and_o the_o lord_n supper_n and_o not_o as_o it_o be_v here_o propose_v a_o distinct_a sacrament_n from_o they_o if_o therefore_o we_o will_v speak_v pertinent_o either_o to_o our_o own_o catechism_n or_o the_o present_a controversy_n we_o must_v consider_v absolution_n as_o abstract_v from_o those_o sacrament_n which_o if_o we_o do_v we_o shall_v find_v it_o to_o consist_v either_o in_o declare_v make_v a_o distinction_n because_o profess_v to_o restrain_v that_o confession_n and_o absolution_n to_o such_o sin_n only_o as_o be_v mortal_a but_o who_o teach_v they_o to_o distinguish_v in_o that_o if_o we_o right_o and_o worthy_o receive_v that_o sign_n we_o do_v as_o very_o receive_v the_o body_n and_o blood_n of_o christ_n as_o we_o do_v the_o sacrament_n thereof_o how_o well_o the_o scripture_n agree_v with_o the_o doctrine_n of_o our_o church_n in_o this_o particular_a will_v not_o be_v difficult_a to_o show_v whether_o we_o do_v consider_v its_o make_n use_v of_o the_o most_o emphatical_a phrase_n which_o our_o church_n do_v concern_v this_o sacrament_n or_o the_o effect_n which_o it_o attribute_v to_o it_o for_o it_o be_v st._n paul_n 10.16_o paul_n 1_o cor._n 10.16_o as_o well_o as_o our_o church_n that_o affirm_v that_o the_o bread_n which_o we_o break_v be_v the_o communion_n of_o the_o body_n of_o christ_n and_o that_o the_o cup_n which_o we_o bless_v be_v the_o communion_n of_o his_o blood_n word_n which_o consider_v the_o place_n they_o have_v in_o that_o chapter_n from_o whence_o they_o be_v borrow_v can_v admit_v of_o a_o low_a sense_n than_o that_o the_o element_n of_o this_o sacrament_n be_v at_o least_o a_o mean_n of_o that_o communion_n because_o allege_v by_o he_o as_o a_o proof_n or_o at_o least_o as_o a_o illustration_n of_o their_o real_o have_v fellowship_n with_o devil_n that_o partake_v of_o the_o sacrifice_n that_o be_v offer_v to_o they_o for_o if_o the_o bread_n and_o wine_n of_o the_o sacrament_n be_v not_o a_o mean_n as_o well_o as_o a_o sign_n of_o the_o communion_n of_o the_o body_n and_o blood_n of_o christ_n neither_o can_v the_o gentile_n sacrifice_n be_v a_o mean_n of_o their_o or_o other_o man_n communion_n with_o those_o devil_n to_o who_o they_o be_v offer_v and_o therefore_o neither_o charge_v they_o with_o any_o real_a fellowship_n with_o devil_n but_o only_o with_o a_o sign_n or_o semblance_n of_o together_o with_o the_o visible_a sign_n of_o bread_n and_o wine_n as_o well_o as_o signify_v by_o they_o but_o because_o the_o question_n be_v not_o so_o much_o at_o present_a concern_v this_o sacrament_n be_v a_o mean_n whereby_o we_o receive_v the_o body_n and_o blood_n of_o christ_n as_o what_o kind_n of_o mean_n it_o be_v how_o it_o convey_v to_o we_o the_o body_n and_o blood_n of_o christ_n and_o how_o we_o receive_v they_o by_o it_o therefore_o inquire_v we_o so_o far_o as_o we_o may_v what_o our_o church_n deliver_v in_o these_o particular_n and_o what_o evidence_n there_o be_v from_o the_o scripture_n of_o our_o church_n orthodoxy_n therein_o now_o though_o we_o may_v not_o perhaps_o find_v in_o any_o monument_n of_o our_o church_n a_o distinct_a and_o particular_a answer_n to_o the_o question_n before_o propose_v yet_o we_o may_v find_v that_o in_o the_o eight_o and_o twenty_o article_n of_o our_o church_n which_o may_v serve_v for_o a_o general_a answer_n to_o question_n propose_v to_o all_o which_o if_o we_o add_v our_o church_n teach_v we_o to_o pray_v to_o god_n even_o in_o the_o prayer_n of_o consecration_n that_o we_o receive_v the_o creature_n of_o bread_n and_o wine_n according_a to_o our_o saviour_n jesus_n christ_n holy_a institution_n may_v be_v partaker_n of_o his_o most_o bless_a body_n and_o blood_n so_o we_o shall_v be_v able_a to_o make_v out_o a_o more_o particular_a answer_n to_o the_o question_n propose_v and_o such_o as_o we_o shall_v find_v reason_n enough_o to_o allow_v for_o it_o appear_v from_o the_o premise_n and_o particular_o from_o the_o prayer_n of_o consecration_n that_o the_o sacrament_n of_o the_o lord_n supper_n be_v such_o a_o spiritual_a mean_a as_o depend_v for_o the_o force_n of_o it_o not_o upon_o any_o virtue_n that_o be_v infuse_v into_o it_o and_o much_o less_o upon_o any_o natural_a union_n there_o be_v between_o that_o and_o the_o body_n and_o blood_n of_o christ_n but_o upon_o our_o receive_n it_o on_o the_o one_o hand_n according_a to_o our_o saviour_n holy_a institution_n and_o god_n bestow_n on_o the_o other_o hand_n christ_n body_n and_o blood_n upon_o such_o a_o reception_n of_o it_o it_o appear_v therefore_o that_o the_o sacrament_n of_o the_o lord_n supper_n

service_n there_o be_v nothing_o but_o praise_n give_v to_o god_n include_v therein_o as_o i_o suppose_v the_o give_v of_o thanks_o and_o prayer_n to_o god_n yet_o how_o will_v it_o thence_o follow_v what_o our_o saviour_n intend_v this_o sacrament_n for_o and_o consequent_o what_o we_o may_v expect_v in_o those_o element_n which_o we_o set_v apart_o for_o it_o if_o we_o follow_v his_o direction_n in_o the_o consecration_n of_o they_o they_o be_v no_o more_o the_o word_n of_o our_o saviour_n christ_n but_o of_o the_o priest_n who_o so_o apply_v they_o and_o from_o which_o therefore_o no_o such_o effect_n can_v be_v expect_v this_o i_o take_v to_o be_v a_o sufficient_a bar_n against_o place_v the_o power_n of_o consecration_n in_o those_o word_n yea_o though_o when_o utter_v by_o our_o
