to_o hear_v their_o prayer_n when_o they_o call_v unto_o he_o out_o of_o their_o trouble_n and_o not_o this_o only_a but_o as_o he_o deal_v here_o with_o this_o woman_n who_o he_o disdain_v to_o answer_v so_o he_o seem_v not_o only_o to_o refuse_v their_o prayer_n but_o also_o instead_o of_o help_n which_o they_o pray_v for_o he_o send_v they_o great_a trouble_n against_o which_o they_o pray_v we_o see_v how_o often_o the_o prophet_n in_o the_o psalm_n complain_v 5._o that_o god_n be_v deaf_a or_o dumb_a and_o he_o hear_v not_o his_o servant_n which_o pray_v unto_o he_o so_o he_o increase_v the_o calamity_n of_o the_o isralite_n under_o pharaoh_n from_o that_o time_n that_o moses_n and_o aaron_n have_v put_v they_o to_o some_o comfort_n of_o deliverance_n so_o this_o poor_a woman_n no_o doubt_n rejoice_v not_o a_o little_a when_o she_o hear_v that_o christ_n be_v come_v into_o those_o quarter_n but_o when_o she_o come_v unto_o he_o who_o she_o be_v glad_a that_o she_o have_v find_v she_o find_v no_o comfort_n at_o all_o in_o he_o but_o great_a discouragement_n and_o discomfort_n if_o any_o thing_n can_v discourage_v a_o strong_a and_o lively_a faith_n we_o see_v therefore_o what_o a_o strong_a temptation_n her_o faith_n endure_v but_o it_o be_v marvel_v how_o she_o can_v retain_v such_o constancy_n of_o faith_n when_o he_o that_o be_v the_o only_a author_n and_o finisher_n of_o our_o faith_n 12._o even_o jesus_n christ_n disdain_v to_o speak_v to_o she_o in_o who_o word_n all_o our_o hope_n and_o trust_n consist_v but_o here_o we_o must_v understand_v by_o his_o temporal_a and_o particular_a silence_n he_o seem_v to_o reject_v she_o from_o he_o second_o although_o he_o speak_v no_o word_n with_o his_o tongue_n yet_o by_o his_o spirit_n he_o speak_v continual_o to_o her_o soul_n settle_v and_o seal_v the_o truth_n of_o god_n promise_n so_o steadfast_o in_o her_o heart_n that_o she_o know_v it_o be_v unpossible_a for_o she_o to_o miss_v of_o his_o grace_n at_o the_o length_n although_o for_o the_o time_n she_o seem_v to_o be_v refuse_v of_o he_o and_o so_o undoubted_o almighty_a god_n deal_v oftentime_o even_o with_o his_o best_a belove_a child_n when_o he_o defer_v the_o answer_n of_o their_o request_n for_o a_o time_n so_o that_o he_o seem_v to_o hold_v his_o peace_n notwithstanding_o that_o he_o have_v promise_v to_o answer_v they_o when_o they_o pray_v in_o which_o perplexity_n they_o must_v remember_v that_o howsoever_o he_o seem_v to_o keep_v silence_n by_o not_o grant_v their_o request_n yet_o he_o speak_v to_o they_o continual_o in_o his_o promise_n contain_v in_o his_o holy_a word_n by_o which_o they_o must_v be_v assure_v that_o god_n will_v be_v merciful_a unto_o they_o albeit_o that_o he_o withhold_v his_o earnest_a affection_n in_o prayer_n which_o thing_n we_o see_v take_v effect_n in_o she_o then_o if_o so_o small_a light_n of_o knowledge_n as_o be_v possible_a to_o be_v in_o she_o according_a to_o the_o state_n of_o the_o time_n and_o her_o own_o condition_n wrought_v such_o constancy_n of_o faith_n if_o so_o little_a seed_n of_o doctrine_n bring_v forth_o such_o abundant_a fruit_n what_o shame_n be_v it_o for_o we_o in_o so_o clear_a light_n of_o the_o gospel_n not_o to_o see_v with_o the_o eye_n of_o our_o faith_n the_o unmooveable_a and_o unchangeable_a truth_n and_o certainty_n of_o
god_n promise_n 1._o and_o have_v receive_v such_o abundance_n of_o the_o immortal_a seed_n to_o bring_v forth_o so_o small_a fruit_n that_o we_o be_v discourage_v to_o continue_v our_o prayer_n if_o we_o find_v not_o present_a help_n as_o soon_o as_o we_o begin_v to_o pray_v and_o that_o we_o doubt_v in_o our_o heart_n of_o the_o truth_n of_o god_n promise_n because_o we_o feel_v not_o the_o execution_n and_o fulfil_n of_o they_o even_o at_o such_o time_n as_o we_o will_v appoint_v ourselves_o not_o remember_v that_o he_o which_o have_v promise_v to_o hear_v we_o when_o we_o pray_v have_v command_v we_o to_o be_v importunate_a in_o prayer_n and_o have_v set_v before_o we_o the_o example_n of_o the_o poor_a widow_n to_o be_v follow_v which_o have_v a_o matter_n to_o be_v hear_v before_o a_o wicked_a judge_n 18._o that_o fear_v neither_o god_n nor_o man_n yet_o at_o the_o length_n obtain_v justice_n at_o his_o hand_n through_o her_o importunity_n and_o shall_v not_o god_n much_o which_o know_v all_o thing_n know_v when_o it_o be_v most_o convenient_a both_o for_o his_o glory_n and_o for_o our_o profit_n to_o grant_v we_o that_o which_o we_o pray_v for_o and_o there_o be_v no_o love_a child_n of_o god_n if_o these_o two_o may_v be_v separate_v but_o will_v prefer_v the_o glory_n of_o god_n before_o his_o own_o profit_n and_o there_o be_v no_o wise_a man_n that_o will_v take_v upon_o he_o to_o know_v better_o when_o his_o profit_n be_v to_o be_v procure_v than_o god_n who_o be_v the_o only_a wisdom_n himself_o but_o see_v these_o two_o thing_n be_v always_o link_v together_o namely_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n and_o our_o salvation_n we_o need_v no_o more_o to_o doubt_n that_o god_n will_v be_v less_o careful_a for_o our_o salvation_n than_o he_o be_v zealous_a for_o his_o own_o glory_n therefore_o it_o be_v a_o vain_a objection_n and_o suppose_v a_o mere_a impossibillity_n that_o we_o shall_v perish_v before_o he_o send_v his_o deliverance_n for_o god_n can_v no_o more_o forget_v our_o deliverance_n in_o due_a time_n than_o he_o can_v deface_v his_o own_o glory_n and_o touch_v the_o mean_a time_n in_o which_o he_o suffer_v we_o to_o be_v afflict_v must_v acknowledge_v that_o we_o be_v all_o lose_v or_o else_o christ_n have_v nothing_o to_o do_v with_o we_o we_o must_v every_o one_o confess_v with_o the_o psalmist_n that_o i_o have_v wander_v assure_a confidence_n in_o god_n mercy_n by_o the_o odious_a name_n of_o presumption_n but_o rather_o we_o may_v just_o call_v the_o proud_a persuasion_n that_o they_o have_v of_o their_o own_o merit_n and_o desert_n by_o the_o right_a name_n of_o presumption_n for_o who_o so_o trust_v most_o in_o god_n have_v least_o opinion_n of_o his_o own_o worthiness_n as_o we_o may_v plain_o see_v in_o this_o example_n of_o the_o cananitish_a woman_n who_o as_o she_o have_v most_o certain_a persuasion_n &_o assurance_n of_o help_n in_o the_o mercy_n of_o god_n so_o have_v she_o no_o presumption_n at_o all_o in_o she_o own_o worthiness_n &_o that_o she_o declare_v plain_o by_o her_o humble_a submission_n therefore_o she_o fall_v down_o at_o his_o foot_n most_o low_o beseech_v he_o to_o be_v good_a unto_o she_o and_o to_o succour_v she_o whereby_o she_o testify_v that_o she_o require_v nothing_o of_o duty_n in_o respect_n of_o she_o own_o worthiness_n but_o only_o of_o favour_n and_o mercy_n in_o respect_n of_o god_n promise_n woe_n be_v therefore_o unto_o the_o papist_n that_o call_v true_a humility_n presumption_n and_o contrariwise_o pride_n they_o term_v
